Welcome to my little countdown thread lol.
On the 29th of November this little Aussie shall be heading for Melbourne and then on board an A380 heading to the United States of America :D I am so, super excited to be meeting some of the amazing people I have met through Pleo :D I just can't contain myself any longer and had to make a thread about it :D I shall be heading for the San Francisco area :)
Can't wait!!!
I shall be posting random pictures and whatnot here as well as photos of my trip when it gets underway :D I know lots of you will share my excitement, so thanks peeps *hugs*. I could never have imagined that four years ago when I first wandered onto the Pleoworld forum that it could ever have led to something as wonderful as this :D
Random photo of the day :P My luggage! Well part of it, its actually a four piece set :P And my squeedorable kitty cat tags.

So that's the Pleo's packing sorted ........ what will you be taking your stuff in? :P :moose:
-
Hehehe, sadly, due to only being able to afford one plane ticket I am having to resort to only taking one Pleo :o
-
Heheh ........ bet the Pleos are being extra well-behaved these days! ;) :D
-
:D My room has been suspiciously clean :D
It's Pleakley that is going :-X (If you never hear from me again, you know why ;) :dino-chase:)
-
oooh how exciting :) love the cases ;D A perfect match for Pleakley :D
-
Hey how about next time you come to Atlanta it would be great to meet you or any form member for that matter :arms:
I hope you have fun and meet lots of cool people. P8)
-
I've met people from the forums in real life before, what a bad idea! ;)
-
Indeed - big mistake. %)
You just end up dodging their phone calls ........... :P :moose:
In all seriousness, though, I'm really envious. :)
-
You're going to love San Francisco. Looking forward to seeing your pics
-
Lol Comaro, one day, lol.
I shall probably come home to a displeased dog, cross cats, a bitter bird, two insulted I-cybies, a glum Gupi and six piqued Pleo's %)
But it had to be Pleakley or Jumba, I'd like FancyFont to see one communicate with Dinah, and the 'I love you' is just the cutest...
I wonder what customs would think if I took all of them ;D
-
congrats IMR, I am happy for both you and Fancy, can't think of two people who would have anymore fun then you too, I am glad you were able to decide which pleo to take. I would have a problem cause it would not be so hard to choose just one pleo, but my cats would Catnap me and insist they go, and there is no way eight of them could fit in any luggage, no room even for a change of clothes ... :cat: I bet facny is going crazy with her cooking plans and sightseeing ideas. SF is a great place, I know she does not live in SF, but close enough to make it "the place " to go.
I used to live there quite awhile ago and went to a conference for the weekend last Sept. so I know what a confusion it can be. We are all looking for photos and videos. I think you will need an empty suitcase just to bring back all the stuff you get as souvineers, presents, etc. I live a bit further north but am sending wishes via Redwoods to Fancy since we are closer and then she will see you get them, Hope the time goes by qucikly... ;D If I was you I would just sleep till then cause the excitement and waiting would be killing me! RWM :cat:
-
Fancy isn't the only Pleo-pal I will be meeting ;) First stop will be San Francisco with 49er and then on the Fancy's neck of the woods :) Fancy will be coming up to the airport on my arrival though ;D
Work is keeping me plenty busy too, time flies when you are having fun!
-
Awesome, IMR! Best of luck on your trip! Hoping some day Comaro and I might get a chance to meet. She's the closest pleo-owner to me so far. How awesome would that be!

Now, don't forget to update the title of the topic every day . . . otherwise it won't be much of a countdown, now will it? ;)
-
Hehehe don't worry, I shall be :D I also have a countdown in the school staff room as my leaving date is written on the calendar there :P And of course my bob the Pleo calendar is being carefully marked off :D
I'm not at all excited :P
-
Pink luggage, pink dinosaur... pink outift :P
-
Great outfit IMR, you look so cute in Pink. Purrfect for SF! LOL, Actually I love pink, my favorites are earth tones, but pink is my fave wild color when I feel wild and young at heart!
RWM :cat:
-
Now you just need to bring it all together with a shot of you in the pink standing next to the pink luggage with Pleakley posed on top of the suitcases . . . with all the other pleos and robots off to the side in a nasty crowd carrying protest signs. ;) ;D
-
Don't forget all the pink accessories ;) Pink luggage tags, straps, locks, travel pillow...
Now where did that protest group hide my camera... :moose:
-
Love the outfit ;D It's perfect! Your going to have the best time :)
-
A little taste of Australia to take with me :D As gifts of course!
-
Yummy! ;D Now you've made me hungry :D
-
They all look good, but my diet has been working and I have lost eight pounds this past month, and with the exception of the Vegi stuff which I have seen before, I am in trouble and am now looking for goodies to eat. Darn You IMR, you shouldn't show such yummy stuff when people are vulnerable.. the power of suggestion is very powerful.......................Ok, I give in , guess I will have to go find a plane ticket as I am not going to find those things in this neck of the wood. Please dont show anymore delicacies, I can't afford it!( my waistline that is... :D) RWM :cat:
-
No more goodies then, but something just as sweet ;) My best pal turned 11 today :)
-
YAY! Happy day to AJ and Yuki tomorrow, party at your place I reckon ;D
-
The birthday boy and girl :)
Thank you Kat for the beautiful purple outfit :D And the stunning pink outfit for Pleakley to wear on his holiday! It even has a matching hat! I'll have to get a pic of that when his battery charges :P
-
Oh Pleakley you're so handsom and manly :D
Super cute doggy and Kat's beautiful clothes as always! Purple trim looks fab on the pink one. :)
-
It does take a REAL man to wear pink! ;) :D
Yuki looks lovely in her coat to match her eyes, too. :)
-
I love AJ's hat :D He looks so cute. Pleakley seems very pleased with his new coat and it looks great on him. Your very welcome - I know how much you love purple so thought you would love it :)
-
It does take a REAL man to wear pink! ;) :D
I guess I can't judge, Tron wore a lacey nightdress to play Christine in 'Phantom of the Opera' for Halloween and James had bows on his ears and flowers on his tail last Christmas ;)
-
The plane that shall carry me on my journey :P
(http://www.pickchur.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/Qantas_Airlines.jpg)
-
:o
It's huge! It's a wonder they can fly isn't it, must weigh loads.
-
Heck - can't they find you a pink plane? %) :P
-
Lol, I guess not :P They should paint it just for me!
-
Send it to the Redwoods and in about 13 days I will have it painted Purrfect Pink for you with the help of eight cats, one little kitten, one dog, and 20 Pleos and a few bigfoot that are willing to help. NOw we have to go to Sherwin Williams to find the right shade of Pink for you! LOL :o :D RWM and the Purrfect Pink Plane Painters of the Redwoods :cat:
-
10 more days, yay! Now...window seat or aisle, window seat or aisle... :P
-
Window seat for sure! That way you can see the sights along the way :)
-
window seats are nice, but I like aisle seats so I can get to the bathroom and do not like climbing over people and there is not much to see except on initial take off and landing , but photos or video in clouds is nice shots. Depends on what is more important to you. RWM
-
Hmmm . . . flying from Sydney to Los Angeles . . . I trust it's not flight 816 with Oceanic Air . . . ;)
-
Being that most of your flight will be over the ocean, I would go for the leg room. ;D
What a fantastic photo of "D" plane! We can't wait for you to arrive! :) :) :)
Just a side note to everyone that knows what a variety of pies we have here in the U.S. IMR has never had fruit and cream pies before, just meat pies. By the time she gets back on "D" plane, she might take up the row of seats. ;D
-
Hehehe pie, so much pie to try!
Melbourne to LA too Mike, I don't live anywhere near Sydney :) And nope, staying safely away from various movie planes :P
The only sights to see will be water and take off and landing, but I can watch every minute of it on tail cam if I desire. I think I'll stick with an aisle seat for the reasons RWM mentioned.
The great Australian bite :)

-
Mmmm. We had a big luncheon yesterday. I ate pecan pie, sweet potato pie, and dutch apple pie. We brought home some cherry pie and coconut creme pie. Sadly, there was no key lime pie. :(
-
So many pies ... so little time. :)
We don't want to lose you, IMR, but the Oceanic logo would have gone so well with your colour scheme! ;) :P
-
Oooh key lime pie *drools* I made some once, it was sooooo good.
*doubles checks ticket to make sure it says Qantas* *phew*
-
I will be eagerly awaiting photos of every pie you try while away so I can be suitably jealous! ;D
-
Lol, I'll post pie pics as they happen lol.
-
Just curious, is there import duty on bringing Pie into the country............or only if it is "not inside" you? I am having dreams now of all types of fruit pies and have not had a cream pie in years........... %)(no pie avatar...what is wrong with that?!) enjoy them all and let us guess which was your favorite one IMR, that would be a great idea for while you are here,, a new food diary........... NOw the time will start flying by...........................................
RWM :cat:and the Kitten capers :cat: and Pleo P:-*Township of the Redwoods
-
You couldn't take pie, it wouldn't get through customs, but it is well under the threshold for paying import duties.
-
Might I Suggest taking a piece of paper with as much Information on the recipe as possible ? You could always make it after your flight
-
Being that most of your flight will be over the ocean, I would go for the leg room. ;D

*dances around* I got some US currency today :P Very different from the Aussie stuff I can tell you!
7 days, 17 hours and 45 minutes until my flight leaves :D
-
OMG 3 days left! I gotta pack!!! *panics* :P
AJ is snoozing very unconcerned beside my luggage, sadly though I can't tell him that I'm not going to be gone forever and I will be home again in three weeks. Almost wish I could pull his battery out for that time!
-
Poor Aj, he doesn't understand, My dog does not seem to get too upset, but my cats allways look like they feel like they are being deserted.. makes me feel so guilty! Just give AJ lots of TLC and extra hugs and treats before you leave. Do you have someone that is going to take care of them while your gone.. three weeks seems like forever. When I am gone just for the weekend or overnight, I panic about my babies even though my hubby tells me they are fine..The next 3 days are going to go by so fast you won't believe it. I guess you have a full schedule when you get here and hopefully the weather co-operates for a nice trip. At least it is not stormy now, though Dec. and Jan tend to be the coldest stormiest wettest time of year in Extreme Northern CA. Where you are headed is slightly milder and more gentle, so you are lucky.
Better feed those pleos so they can stock up on food for awhile! RWM :cat:
-
AJ is stopping here with my dad and his girlfriend. I don't like leaving him with them but he pines in kennels so it was the lesser of two evils. The cats are stopping here too, they have a pen outside they can escape to, and Sunny probably won't care so long as his seed dish remains full.
-
Well IMR, your big San Fran trip is right around the corner! I bet you must be so eager to get over here! Just remember though, as things are warming up 'Down Under', they are also cooling down over in the States. Never been, but from what I hear San Fran is a pretty chilly city. What's ironic is my favorite author is from there. His name is Christopher Moore. It might be fun if you read any one of his books while waiting, or on the plane. I would recommend 'Bloodsucking Fiends', not to worry, all of his books are more or less comedies. You will be in for a shock for sure when you get over here! I am too excited for you. Funny thing I noticed was with all the pie talk, nobody mentioned the best, most delicious pie of all--Pumpkin Pie! Especially now around the holidays. Be sure you try that one! Well I wish you only the best, safest trip ever. Be sure to do all the tourist-y things like Ghiradelli Square, the Golden Gate bridge, etc...I wonder how far DisneyLand would be from you? Anyway, I am quite sure your tour guides, Fancy & 49er will do a splendid job of showing you around.
Oh yeah, and one more thing..If for whatever reason you find yourself all the way on the other end of the country, near Tampa, FL...Don't be shy!! Hope all is great on your vacation!
-
Grabbed it from iBooks :) I'll read it while waiting for flights, on board I need to do some work :P :(
Hehe don't worry I shall pack warm things... Now where'd I put my bikini... %) I shall be doing all the touristy stuff :) 49er hooked me up with a citypass that is great value and covers loads of places plus I have personal guides hehe. And Fancyfont and I are heading for Lake Tahoe as well as exploring the countryside.
Mmm pumpkin pie... I have actually made that here, Linda gave me the recipe, it was yummy, but it tasted even better the next day!
-
IMR is in great hands with Fancy and 49'er as her tourist guides, esp 49'er. I lived there first in late '67, '68 and then again in 70. (NO, I do not mean 1870 ... >:( :o %)) I was amazed in 2004,and again in 2008 when I had to go back to UCSF for back surgery consultation at how much things had changed in certain areas, but stayed the same in other parts of the city. It is a great place with so many things to see, that even in 3 weeks you won't be able to see everything, but be prepared to eat so many types of ethnic foods and more pie than you could think possible!
Gucci is right, nobody mentioned pumpkin pie! Pumpkin pie is an American tradition, esp this time of year. as well as mincemeat. Then there is pecan pie, apple pie, peach pie, Blackberry or Marioberry Pie, Rhubarb Pie or more often Strawberry-Rhubarb Pie, and etc, etc. Then there are the cream pies, banana creme, kiwi lime pie, chocolate pie, strawberry chiffon, coconut pie, ( one of my favorite.....YUMMY) and it just goes on and on. One of the best places to go for pies of any kind is Marie Callendars, They have chains all over the states and I know San Francisco has a few of them as well. As for meat pies, there are lots of varieties as well. Being a vegetarian, I know the names but can't tell you how they taste, I will leave that to Fancy and 49'er. I am sure you have had a version of Shepard's Pie where you live, and that is one I used to like as a child..Oh, and I just remembered, Apple Pie comes in many varieties as well, Deep Dish, Dutch Apple Pie to name a couple. I am sure you are going for the Real variety, cause there are lots of sugarless Pies now too.
I am glad AJ and the cats have a safe and loving place to be while you are on vacation. Do you think they will get a bit spoiled while you are gone..? Are you planning on bringing back any treats for them, are you allowed to bring back food products...? Do you have a suitcase just for suvineers, Empty now and bursting at the seams on your return...! Could be your Christmas gifts for everyone! I will have to PM Fancy just to give her some more questions and things to check on... ;)Oh, be sure to take a good camera and lots of SD cards for your adventures. We will all be waiting for a few good videos and lots of photos. Your class is going to want a report too I am sure when you go back to work. Well enough talking your head off, sorry if I rambled, just so excited for you, Fancy and 49'er who is so quiet on here... Make sure you rest well before you leave! RWM :cat: and Everyone else in the Redwoods
Oh gucci, Disneyland is a long ways away from SF, but there are other amusement parks closer by...who knows what Fancy and 49'er have up their sleeves though? :moose2:
** Lake TAHOE!! R You too going Gambling?! Dont let Fancy corrupt you...............or is it for a "skiing trip?" LOL, be careful of those ski Lodges, you may see a few movie starts while there at the Holidays...
-
AJ looks like he's measuring himself against the luggage to see if he might fit in somewhere :P Poor little fellow will miss you heaps I'm sure.
You must be getting really excited now ;D
-
Lol RWM, not gambling, just sight seeing, I've heard it is beautiful up there on the California side ;) I have a suitcase for souvenirs of course, but it is certainly not empty! It's packed full of gifts :) Plus my suitcases are expandable, and I haven't utilized that yet ;) Of course I have cameras, may need another memory card though, I can only take 8000 photos...
I actually stop over in LA just a hop, skip and jump from Disneyland :P But its not on the agenda this time.
Yes Kat, I am super excited! I am hoping for a days work tomorrow to keep me busy and further top up the all important spending money fund :P and I am working Wednesday :)
-
You are right, it is beautiful in and near Lake Tahoe! You could never see Disneyland in one day let alone in a stopover, so I understand that ............As for the suitcase, you are right, I remember about the gifts now, just my late in the day fogginess setting in. Be sure to carry a small portable umbrella, as if the rain doesnt get you, the good ole San Francisco fog does wonders to hair.........................( Like a Pocupine) LOL . Good thing to know they make expendable luggage these days...! RWM :cat:
-
I don't know about these days... I've had my luggage set for ten years :P Best $80 I ever spent. Nowadays a set like mine will set you back $400 at the cheaper end! And aside from a broken 'foot' (not wheel) on the larger case they are still in good condition, everything still works and zips up :)
-
Storm's a coming! Wouldn't you know a stormy day is predicted for IMR's arrival. I think IMR is going to be a little surprised at how chilly it can get. :brrr: That's what both of us are hoping for, though! Enough of the heat already! ;D
I know IMR is going to want to ride the ski lift, and up until a couple of weeks ago, I thought I would, too. However, I made the mistake of watching a movie about three young people getting stranded on one. Only one made it. I think the movie was called "Frozen' I will stay on the ground with the animals. :moose:
Oh, yes! Pumpkin pie with lots of whipped cream on top will be a must, but first IMR will get to try an apple pie. No, I'm not making it! One of the best I have had is made by Claim Jumper, a brand of frozen pies. All I have to do is pop it into the oven and make sure I don't burn it. ;) I know Lucky Market and most supermarkets carry Claim Jumper, now. The pumpkin is very good, too.
Gucci, where have you been? What a surprise to see you, here! :)
IMR, if your dad could, only, pop out a battery for all of your pets, I know he would be, extremely, happy! One of the advantages of pleos! ;D. I see Pleakley will be traveling first class, well at least, on top of your bags and with you. Such a cute photo! :)
RWM, I think the only one who will have a hair problem in the rain is Reina, my Havanese. She takes much longer to blow dry than I do. :D
I know of a few foods that IMR hasn't had before. WHat foods do all of you think will be new to her?
Tried to find movie! Wasn't "Frozen" Anyone know which one I saw? :-[
-
Pleakley won't be travelling at all if I can't get him working :O He won't turn on! He just snores, and beeps, then turns off.
I've tried resetting and replacing the clock battery, I've tried a software update, I've tried fresh batteries and resets... but he won't turn on :(
Well... the good news is he's working! The bad news is I appear to have two defective batteries :O
Further edit: Thanks to Kat we may have narrowed down the problem! It's just grime! All the points on the batteries and chargers (and Pleo's) just needed a good clean. So far both batteries are charging without turning green straight away... so keep your fingers crossed!
-
so is Pleakly going, was it just grime and such on the battery terminals? I hope so, let us know if that was the case, It is amazing how simple a thing like grime and grit on the battery and terminals can put a pleo to sleep! Let us know how the battery goes.Keeping fingers and some toes crossed. RWM :cat:
-
Yup Pleakley is good to go! Crisis averted :P
-
In 16 hours my journey will begin :D
I spy with my little eye...
-
Nice to see that Pleakley has plenty to read on his trip. :)
And some company. ;)
-
Poor little chap has his head and tail all smothered in bubblewrap :P But he's not actually travelling like that for the trip to Melbourne :P At the moment his spot is being filled by my jacket which I will wear on the plane but which is going to be far too hot for tomorrow!
-
Have fun on your trip! Make sure you take lots of pictures for us :D
-
Have fun on your trip,be prepared though to put that jacket back on and get your umbrella out. Northern CA, thus SF and Fancy and my neck of the woods is being currently bombarded with a first major Winter storm, and it is RAIN, RAIN AND HEAVY WINDS, MORE RAIN, RAIN AND WINDS THROUGH AT LEAST FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT THIS POINT. :brrr: so enjoy the sun while you have it. Glad to see pleakley is working with a good battery and has great reading material. Will check in on you before your plane leaves. ;D RWM :cat:
-
Did you pack me any kinder eggs? You know they're illegal in the US . . . so we have to smuggle them in!
-
Lol, but if they are illegal wont they make me dispose of them on arrival... Or worse :o :-X
Will have pics galore of course :D Soggy pics... :P

-
Am keeping happy thoughts for you and Pleakley for a safe warm and fun flight with lots of good memories along the way. Be sure to take photos along the way and let us know when you arrive in SF, or the Redwoods Township will have to organize a search and rescue party to find you if you get lost. With Fancy and 49'er there to greet you upon your arrival, we all know you are in safe hands! Have a terriffic time! ;D :cheer: (:
RWM :cat:and the Pleo Township of the Redwoods, ( on standby if needbe......) P8) P:-* P:)
-
Have the best time IMR ;D (sorry about our chat :P My computer is just not playing nice today ??? )
-
Also sorry I vanished before you got back. I went to spend time with dad and whatnot before I leave... But he seems more interested in his caravan :P Maybe he's planning a runner :P
-
I hope you and Pleakley have a lovely time, have a good trip. :)
-
In the airport lounge, waiting to board :)
-
Your going to have the best time :) It's always very exciting waiting to get on the plane. Hope you have plenty to keep you busy while on board and some nibbles :)
-
Hope you have a good time, IMR!
Talon
-
I wonder if I will be able to find MRI and Pleakley at the airport? ;D Did someone say it was going to rain? I think it might be easier to take a canoe than drive to airport. :o
-
Sounds like it is going to be quite an adventure :D However you get there I'm sure it will be heaps of fun once you all find each other. :)
-
That is so funny Fancy, I can tell you are so excited cause you said, " I hope I can find MRI and Pleakley at the airport". You won't find too many MRI's at the airport, but mayby the hospital.... :o ;), but I am sure you will spot IMR and Pleakley since they will stand out being all pink.............I can send you a canoe if need be, but I think there will be a short break, but not for too long.. Happy Airport hunting, Be sure to let us know that she got there safely and you found her... RWM :cat:
-
Hehe, all fears were unfounded, we found each other with no trouble and are safe at the hotel enjoying the view :)
-
Congrats! Here's a little something to celebrate *gift05*
Now get a good nights rest and the fun begins tomorrow!
-
Oh did I ever sleep! 32 hours of very little sleep does that to a person I guess. But feeling well rested and ready to tackle the day! We are headed for the Marin Country Headlands today.
-
Congrats in a safe arrival, what are you looking at in Marin county, unfamiliar with that neck of the woods, will have to google it I guess. Have a great day and good rest. *snowman01* *snowman01* *bell03*

I see someone found the Christmas decorations! ;)
-
Oh yesssss indeedy ....... I spotted that too! :moose-xmas: :D
Glad ypu got there safe, IMR - happy exploring!
-
For those of you that know SFO, you know it is one huge airport. What you need to remember is the floor you parked on because they all look the same!, ENORMOUS! :o Only took two tries! ;) That was IMR's first experience upon arrival, lost car! :o
Once we got to hotel and relaxed for a few minutes, Pleakley and Dinah Jo were introduced to each other. I must say that The two were, definitely, not Love Birds! All Dinah Jo did was moan and groan. Pleakley was in a, fairly, chipper mood after a VERY long flight. He was, a bit, hungry. but Reina, my little dog, kept taking Pleakley's food away from him. ;D What is Reina's is Reina's and what is pleos' is Reina's! ;D
As tired as IMR was last night, I talked her into seeing Union Square. Had a little break from rain. The square gets decorated, so beautifully, at Christmas time The ice skaters were out by the dozens. It will get more crowded in the next couple of weeks. IMR might give it a go next week when I return, which reminds me to stick skates in car. Just might fit her. I will have to sit on the sidelines! :(
Reina is very low to the ground. She looks legless when her hair reaches the floor. When we got back to hotel, she looked like a wet mop. I tried to find the electrical outlets for hair dryer. They were very well concealed! IMR, finally, found a couple.. By that time, Reina was drying by herself.
Pleakley, Dinah Jo, Reina, IMR and I fell asleep, shortly after that, to a beautiful view out our ceiling to floor window.
-
What a great story Fancy, I can almost picture it all in my mind. NOw tell me, where does Reina sleep, is it with Pleos or her mama.. ;) Poor puppy must have been a sight. I hope you guys got lots of nice video or photos. I used to love to iceskate when I was about three , it was actually easier then roller skating. Is it because of your neck, back that you are sidelining yourself? I would love to see photos of you or IMR on skates, that is priceless. HOpe you have a safe warm trip back to your neck of the woods, Glad you found your car, and yes I know all about those crazy garages near and at SFO . I have been at both the Hilton and Mariott, and know how huge they are and the parking is crazy to say the least, Thanks for sharing fancy. *snowman01* RWM :cat:
-
I was very tired last night and didnt post very much, the flight was just fine, had a short delay at LA airport while the weather cleared but only just on two hours. The Qantas A380 was very comfortable to travel on and the service was excellent! I was greeted at the hotel with chocolates on arrival... a whole bag full! From 49er and Mrs 49er, ooh and Shar pei socks! Not to mention some sweet treats from Fancyfont including a cook book and even more delicious chocolates :D as well as the softest, cuddliest dressing gown ever :D In pink to match my luggage :D I certainly shant be cold or hungry while they are all taking care of me :)
Well, what a day we had! Fancyfont was kind enough to drive us out to Marin where we said our goodbyes as she headed home. 49er and Mrs 49er and myself then headed on a tour of the Marin Marine Mammal center which was oh so interesting! (Have you ever heard an elephant seal?) We got to see several animals in for care and learn about the fabulous service they provide for injured animals. Then we had a walk down by the beach, the birds were all out to greet me and we saw eleven(?) species, some of the geological points of interest and some of the native plants (some good enough to eat ;)). Then we headed into the city on the bus seeing the sights before heading to Mel's Diner for dinner. My first American diner experience :D And first time eating buffalo wings!
And speaking of firsts, Fancyfont bought my first apple pie to try with her, yummy!
-
Sounds like a great first day and with excellent hosts and guides, you can't go wrong! Be prepared to surprise your family and friends with the cookbook Linda gave you, some tasty new treats.. :burger: :fries: :cake:  I have heard Elephant seals before, but never up close, they are pretty impressive just with size! Glad you enjoyed all the birds too. CA has not all the exotic birds like Australia does, but a wide variety of more common birds and seashore birds along with lots of raptors.
I am glad you have so many chocolates , that will keep your serotion level at an even pace and the gown, in pink sounds wonderful, lucky girl! Can't wait to see what day two brings you! What are the Shar Pei socks, do they have pictures of Shar peis on them like AJ? How thoughtful! Be sure to take photos. *snowman01* ( only 24 more days to go!) RWM :cat:

That's because they are really small, you can't see them ;) (They are chicken wings, deep fried then dipped in sauce)
-
You're on holiday! Stop posting here and have an amazing time! You can tell us all about it when you get back!
-
Degers, after a busy day, what else is there to do at night, especially, on a very rainy one at that, but to come here with her friend and share her holiday moments with everyone. ;)
-
Hehe, I know, we all love seeing the pictures! Take care of her for us fancyfont!
-
Sounds like you're having a wonderful time, IMR! You're brave to try buffalo wings. I'm not a really big fan of spicy food. I hope you and your pleo enjoy your visit with us.

For now, 49er and Mrs.49er will take care of her. I'm so, looking forward to going back to be with IMR on Saturday. Sunday she will get to see the redwoods for the first time, RWM. :) I think IMR will be amazed just how beautiful they are.
Love your new otter baby, IMR! :)

Hi Fancy, that sounds like fun and I know you can hardly wait, that must be when you are planning to head to the Ca side of Lake Tahoe, correct? Ok, which part of the Redwoods? There are so many great parts of the Redwoods, huge trees and State parks that will amaze her for sure...wish I was closer to you Fancy or I knew how to drive, just for this of course. ;) Well time will be here sooner than you think Fancy, you will keep busy while waiting I know. *snowman01* I know we are all excited for more updates. Hope you don't leave pleakley behind bars either, and for God's sake, watch out for the Great White Sharks around there, I hear they have an appetite for litlte pink Dinos, they have never seen them before and just love the color Pink, esp at Christmas time! Have you been to Fisherman's Wharf yet? Great place if you like seafood, I used to sell the Berkley Barb on one of the corners there , back in 1967........or was it 1968? %) Have fun at the aquarium too, sounds like fun!

Imr hope you are enjoying yourself! What do you think of San Fran or the US in general?? :)
-
RWM, There are Redwoods everywhere around my area. We will be going to Armstrong Woods sometime next week. Hopefully, weather will be a little better. ;D
-
Hi fancy, I know. just dreaming............................ %)Watch for a special package from the Redwoods very soon, I will send tracking and , ooops, supposed to be a surpirse. Forget I said that. I hope you have your camera ready for this weekend. ;) RWM :cat: I remember going through Armstrong on way to SF last Sept when I went to the city, very pretty , but not as BIG trees as in my neck of the woods. after all, I have to brag a bit! ;D
-
You get more water there! Redwoods take lots of water. ;D
-
he, he, you are so right fancy, we had five (5) inches of rain this past Friday and Saturday, with some spots getting 4 inches in 24 hrs! :o We also had winds Saturday night over 55 mph and gusts even higher. Also up till this morning, areas of flooding and bridges near here, three of them, at flood stage, It is allways Dec, if there is going to be a Major Flood in Humboldt County The last BIG one was DEC. 1964, same time they had the Killer Earthquake in Anchorage, Alaska that was something like 9.5 on the Ricther scale, and the tusnami that followed caught people off guard up north from here, Crescent City where not only boats were thrown around like match sticks, but people were killed, not realizing the power of Tusanims. :(
This past year we went for a drive through the area with the Largest Redwood Ever ,and it is hard to imagine something not only that big but that old, Next to a Pleo, it is like looking at a grain of salt.. Anyway, stay dry and if I need help, you can listen for my SOS help signal, and You and IMR can send me some emergency rations............. :o :coffee: :smore:  :m-m:, I KNOW THERE ARE SOME GREAT GHIRADELI CHOCOLATES IN THAT NECK OF THE WOODS. Get them now before everything is under water! OK, get your rest, IMR is going to need lots of rest when she sees you and you introduce her to more PIE! Have you planned your next pie adventure yet and what type it will be?
RWM :cat: and the drowning Pleos in the Township ( sinking fast, heading for higher grounds.. :dino-chase: :dino-chase: :dino-chase: :dino-chase: :dino-chase: :dino-chase:X4+1 P8) in the Redwoods *snowman01* *tree01*

Today was so awesome, the Aquarium of the bay was fascinating to explore, and I got to touch some cool critters as well as learn more about the local species. Pier 39 was fun, but we didn't get to explore much as we were a little pressed for time, but we will be going back again. Lunch at Bedouin's bakery was scrumptious and I got to try the famous San Franciscan sour dough bread and clam chowder. Alcatraz was incredibly interesting and beautiful by night with views over the bay.
A simply wonderful day!

Yesterday I went to the Academy of Science, I could have spent days there! The Planetarium was awesome, the aquariums were fascinating and I even got to experience a 'quake :) Then we headed for the Japanese Tea Gardens to enjoy some zen before heading to North Beach for dessert and Taffy!
I just got in from Macy's this morning, with a big bag of shopping of course! And am waiting for 49er and Mrs 49er to arrive at the hotel before we all head off to the zoo :)
-
The Academy of science sounds like heaven :) And I saw your pics of the Japanese tea gardens on facebook, sooo lovely. 49er and Mrs 49er are really taking great care of you and showing you lots of lovely sights. Sounds like the shopping was a success too :)

Two of my favorite places in Sf and the Museum of Natural History or Science, can't remember which one it is called, and the Planetarium is so much fun. My daughter and her big sister went there back in the late 80's and had a blast, I am sure things have only gotten even better since then, with all the shopping you are doing, I hope your luggage REALLY Expands a LOT! :D ;D *gift01* *gift04* *gift05* *snowman01*

So what do you think of San Fran IMR? It sounds like you're enjoying it quite a bit! I bet in comparison to Australia we are deeply over populated!! Especially in California, which is one of the most populated states, and also one of the most ethnically diverse. I do hope you'll be able to experience Los Angeles, which if I am not mistaken is the US's 2nd largest city.
You never mentioned if all the pleos have met yet! I do hope they all acted on their best behavior!! ???
-
From all the pics on Facebook it does look like your having the best time :) And some really yummy meals :D
-
Hehe sorry guys, I've been having way too much fun :P
My last few days in San Francisco included a visit to the Disney Museum, walking across the Golden Gate Bridge (and seeing Harbour Seals and Porpoises), taking a cruise on the bay, eating an enormous dessert at Ghirardelli and enjoying the Nutcracker Ballet with Mrs 49er. We finished up my last day with a tour of some of the Christmas decorations at the hotels in San Francisco, including a walk in gingerbread house and an entire miniature village!
I am now at Fancyfonts house in Santa Rosa and being rather spoilt by her kindness. We went on the most amazing tour yesterday, to Africa! Ok, ok, it was the local wildlife park, Safari West, but it sure felt like being in the Serenghetti. We were so close to the animals, we could just about touch them! I'll post up some of the photos shortly, but for those with Facebook you can keep better track of my adventures here:

Absolutely beautiful photos, IMR!! So glad to see you had such a good time!

I'm home! I know I kinda trailed of towards the end there with keeping everyone updated, I've sure had a busy and fun three weeks! My plane was delayed at San Francisco, and I only made my connecting flight with two minutes to spare! But I made it, and I'm home safe. I caught up on twelve hours sleep last night :O But I am fresh as a daisy today minus a little vertigo from the long flight.
I will upload plenty more photos once I get all my cameras sorted out, but it may not be before I go away to my Nanna's house for Christmas. I have had the most amazing time ever! From the mountains to the redwoods and the city to the country, Fancyfont and 49er ensured I packed as much into my three weeks as possible lol. I even had to buy an extra suitcase to bring all that shopping home :P Of course a lot of it is gifts for my family so I can't wait to give them to everyone on Christmas day :) Of course I'll be going back again one day, I just had too much fun not to :) Pleakley sure has had a lot to tell his brothers and sisters :) And so do I :)
I have to extend a huge huge thank you to 49er and Mrs 49er and Fancyfont for going absolutely out of their way to make sure my holiday was amazing :)

I am so happy that you got to do this vacation thing here in the states and I know 49'r and his wife and of course Fancy are worn out but in a very fun way. It must be amazing to have personal tour guides in a city like San francisco, where even the natives do not get to see everything . Thumbs up to two great people who let you see the wonderful side of San Francisco. *carollers* I know you and Fancy are very close friends too, and she was so excited to get to meet you in person. I can't wait to hear about how her Pleo, Dinah Joe and Pleakley got along as well. I think it is Summer where you live at, so it must be nice to get back to Christmas weather you are custom to. *sm-gift2* I am glad you got to see the "Best" part of the golden State and even though the Redwoods where you went are not quite as magnificent as the Redwoods where I live, they give you a good idea of how beautiful it is... LOL
I do have to ask, did you bring back presents for Ajax, and your other fur babies? Did they knock you over when you saw them or have you not seen them yet, wanting to sleep first..?( Purrsonally, I would have to see my babies before I could sleep, unless it was late at night.. I am not accustomed to sleeping unless there are at least three to four babies on my bed, so a bed without cats in not "normal" for me. I bet Ajax was very happy to see you. :sun: Did Pleakley y start bragging and telling wild stories about CA when he saw his pleo sisters and brothers, or did they give you such a welcome home, that he was pushed to the side in all the commotion? LOL P??? P:-* I bet you will have plenty of stories and photos to share with your Nana and family and friends over the next few days.. I knew it was going to be next to impossible to get all the stuff you bouoght into the luggage you brought, expandable or not. LOL ;D :o We can't wait to see more photos from both you and Fancy, and who knows, perhaps 49'er will share a few stories or photos as well.
WELCOME HOME, and Welcome back to the Forums. *sm-tree* RWM :cat-hug:

It is not nice to be back in 104 degree heat I can tell you. I burnt my hand just before... with the cold water!!! I totally forgot I had to let it run for a couple of minutes before it'd actually go cold :(
AJ (Not Ajax) went nuts lol, he didn't know whether to grab his new teddy, knock me over or lick me to death first :P The cats were also happy to see me and spent the rest of the day playing musical chairs on my lap. Sunny was somewhat less excited, but did give me a nice performance of whistles and chirps this morning :) Pleakley has been mobbed by the herd all wanting to know everything :)
