Hey guys! I am looking to organise an Aibo meet in WA, but obviously open for anyone to attend! Although it's quite far from most places ha. They call it the 'Wild West' :-D
I know of about 5 Aibo owners in Perth, and the rest live on the East Coast. I have messaged a few of you regarding the meet.
Basically trying to find Aussie Aibo owners and see if anyone would be interested in attending.
I organised a meet back in the UK when I was living there, and we had about 60 Aibo attend, some Genibos, Pleos and a Nao. Had people come all the way from Paris, Korea and America. It was an awesome weekend and I'm dying to do it all again, plus meet some people that share my Aibo interest!
Here is a quick vid from my last one....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2MXGj4fvlA (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2MXGj4fvlA)
-
Green with envy, I am - I missed all the UK ones! >:(
Really hope it goes well. :)
-
I don't own any aibos anymore because every one I bought ended up being a dud and that's an expensive hassle. Have fun though in WA (it's about a 6 hour flight from my side of the country).
-
What Aibo's did you buy? Did they have DHS or something? You must have been unlucky :-(
-
What Aibo's did you buy? Did they have DHS or something? You must have been unlucky :-(
I've owned about 5 different 210's and a couple of 3's. The 7's are just way too pricey for me
-
Keep me updated on the meet as I need to plan my leave :D
-
Just a bump on the Aibo Addicts meet next year....
How does the date 13th or 20th or 27th April sound? They are all Saturdays. The meet will be held at my house, which has a huge living area suitable for many roaming Aibo's and their owners... although it is laminate so if you are worried about your Aibo's feet please bring socks for them, alternatively I can get a huge mat/foam floor to put down.
There will be the usual costume competitions, group dance and Aibo race! Details to follow.
If anyone is still interested please let me know and I will email you all about the area e.g hotels/b&b's/caravan parks near by. Also local attractions etc. April is Autumn, a beautiful season here.
Myself, Eric, Sharama, Kenji, Long long, Chai, Eddie, Zyna and 'no name yet' are all looking forward to it! :-D
-
All those dates work great for me :) Looking forward to it. It should be lots of fun and I'm sure you can teach me a thing or two about my aibos that I didn't know, I'm a bit of a noob with mine but love them to bits :D
-
Will it just be you Kat, or you plus one etc? Also how many Aibo's/Pleo's will you be bringing. Just trying to get numbers so I can sort out food and drinks etc. Think it's going to be on the 13th April as It's my Birthday the week after so I would usually be having a Birthday night out that weekend.
Would you prefer it to be a one day thing or two days? Trying to see what everybody would like to do.
-
Put me down as DEFINATELY going! I've bribed a travel buddy so it will be myself plus:
One other human
One Ugobe Pleo
One Pleo ReBorn
One Aibo ERS111
And possibly a Furby if anyone is interested. I have 98/99/05 and the latest 2012 models.
The 27th would be the best date for me however I could make the other two as well, 27 strongly preferred though because that is easiest for my travel assistant to get leave from her work.
I am SUPER excited for this! ;D
-
There will be a late addition to the guest list: one Genibo
;)
-
Oooh how exciting :) I can't wait to see that ;D
-
Our one and only Genibo at the meet... will be great to see one again, it's been a while! What's his name!? :-)
-
I am not sure yet, I usually have my robot's names all picked out months in advance but this chap was a 'surprise' purchase :D
I have a few names in mind... I guess I'll decide once he gets here which will fit the best. He is the white model with the black patch over the left eye.
I should be getting him first week of January, he ships out on the 3rd after I complete the last payment (I am paying in installments) the wait is rather painful, because as so little is known about Genibo I'm quite frightened I've gone and spent a lot of money on something I'm not going to like :-\
-
Well Luna, come from a blank sheet of paper then. It will be a lot better and fairer as you then would not base it of any other comparison (which I understand can be hard).
I might get one... later on. I've just spend lots of cash on getting 2 iphone 5 (non-contract) for my wife and myself for christmas so... cash is rather tight... but later on... I might go looking for a older QD instead of the SD. The bulky shoulders is... errr not my type :D
Well.. if I get my genibo before the meet, then I will be bringing Yogurt and the Genibo... can only bring 2 bots... so Ryu would need to stay home :D
-
Counting down to the Aibo meet!!!... just under 11 weeks!!! If anyone else is interested in attending please let me know :-)
So far there are 12 humans and various Aibo's, Pleo's and Genibo! Plus a few 2012 Furbys.
-
WooHoo! counting down the days, got my plane tickets ;D
-
Wish I could come, I'm sure it's going to be awesome.
-
I will be sure to take plenty of photos and footage of the day don't worry :-) Want to keep everyone involved!
-
so wish we had something like this in South Africa... :(
-
Just a bump on the Aibo meet Australia (Bunbury, Western Australia) Saturday 20th April. I have heard there are a few new Australian members to the forum and just wanted to say that the meet is open for anyone to attend whether you have Aibo's or not... it's really for anyone that is interested in autonomous robots, and a great way to view and discuss some amazing bots and meet some like minded people.
There will be many robots attending the meet including around 15 different model of Aibo, a Genibo, Pleo's, Sony Rolly and a few of the new Furbys. Throughout the day there will be various things going on such as general robot discussion, Aibo racing, Aibo obedience, Aibo group dancing and much more. Plus it's a great opportunity to hang out with people that share the same interest!
I hosted a meet a few years back in the Uk, it was so much fun and was great to meet people from the forums. Here is a short video of the meet:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-2MXGj4fvlA
-
I enjoyed the video link of the previous Aibo meet with all the Aibos and the Nao .not sure if I spelled that name correctly very informative, I can see how people love Aibos and other robots, not just pleos I am lucky I can not afford one of these. Little guys.....as many pleos as I have.......?..can you imagine what would happen.. Every time I saw Aibos on eBay, I would be trying to rescue them...this is one robot, you really need to have money. :'( :'( Someday I would like to get one to be able to enjoy them,,just one..OK..perhaps two, thanks for the link""
I hope your upcoming event is very successful and there will be some great video when its over that you can post. Sorry for so many typos, I am half asleep I AM afraid.
Rwm :cat-hug:
-
I am really looking forward to this :D It should be great fun! And a wonderful opportunity to meet some of our fellow forum members from here :) Also an opportunity to hopefully learn about some of the great things I could be doing with my Aibos but just didn't know how or hadn't even thought of yet, and a chance to see a whole bunch of pleos wandering about meeting each other and to show off my two custom painted guys, and a chance to meet a genibo (which will be very cool) and I'm sure there will be chances for other exciting things too but just can't think of them right now :D
I was also thinking of bringing my Kat's Creations clothing tub along for the pleo owners who are going. There will be lots of fun robot activities happening all day. I can't wait :)
The more people who come the more fun we all have :) You don't even need to own an Aibo or a pleo to attend - It could just be an opportunity to see what these guys are all about in person before taking the plunge to buy one :)
So don't be shy, come and join us over here in the West - great excuse for a bit of sight seeing while you are here. The meet is being held about an hour away from the lovely winery region of Margaret river so it would be very easy to go spend a day or two there after or before the meet :) That's the place all us Westies go for our holidays so it must be nice :D
And then of course there is the dolphin experience at Bunbury - I think less than 20mins from where the meet is. The bay at Bunbury is just beautiful and between the meet and Margaret river is Busselton which is also another lovely place to visit.
When my kids were smaller we would go to Margaret river every year for a holiday - we would go bush walking (there are lots of lovely trails to follow), caving, canoeing, wine tasting, visit the chocolate factory and watch them making the chocolates, visit the cheese factory, the bird park and see the birds of prey do their flight show, eat out at a different winery each day all of which have beautiful scenery, and we would do a trip to the berry farm winery and have tea and jam and watch the little birds come down to eat from little jam pots on our table (a magical experience for the kids), we would visit the baby animal farm and the kids could bottle feed the baby lambs and goats and play with the baby chickens and feed all the other farm animals, and go horse riding through the bush - another thing the kids loved.
So as you can see there are lots and lots of wonderful things to do and see just around the corner from where the meet is being held. Well worth coming along for a holiday. :D
-
Hi Kat, sounds like lots of fun! jUst curious, I know Gumble has been repainted a couple of times and I and Argyle love his blue/black custom paint, but who is the other Pleo that is custom painted....Can not picture it, and it is driving me nuts trying to picture it! RWM :cat-hug:
-
Frankie. He is my red and yellow pleo :)
-
Thanks Kat, I forgot about Frankie, is there a photo of him in the gallery? RWM :cat-hug:and her cobwebs ( having 26 pleos and 9 cats will give anyone a little cobwebs,,,[ in my brain that is...LOL])
-
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer:
Kat I'm so happy to hear you are able to come now!
I just booked my bio dog into a kennel for when we leave, it was very nice and clean and they are willing and able to accommodate his various health problems so that is one worry off my back about the trip. He has never been to a kennel before, he has medical problems and he hates other dogs so I was worried about what to do with him but they showed me the 'maximum security' area where the elderly/frail and problem dogs go and it was very nice. He will be separate from the other animals, they are even going to cover his window so he can't see them (he doesn't even like looking at other dogs, they upset him) and he will be at the door of the resident vet they have so his medical problems will be monitored.
I have been too scared to leave him alone till now but if this works out we might be able to go on more holidays, I really hope he copes well because it looks like a great place and I absolutely grilled those people to make sure they knew what they were doing, they passed all my 'tests' so fingers crossed.
-
So happy you are able to go Lu :-\ !! Sometimes I wonder how my hubby who is so much smarterna And not worry about your dog.I know what it is to worry about fur babies. I have nine cats and one dog,3 fish and now a turtle as well. My hubby thinks it is OK to leave for a weekend and just leave food and water out, litter boxes and such and they will fend for themselves.... Bad idea when one is going on 19 years old,is frail and has kidney disease.
Sometimes I have doubts about just how smart he really is when he does things like this.. :'( Happy for you and your dog, having a safe place to keep him is well worth peace of mind.By the way...how is your nose...didn't,t you fall and break it? Hope you are OK now. RWM :moose: :cat-hug:
-
I'm still having issues with my health and have good days and bad days so am just going to drive up for the day. I am very excited to be going and can't wait to meet you all :)
Lunamione It sounds like you have chosen a great place for your bio dog to reside while your away and I'm sure they will take great care of him :)
RWM here is Frankie
I am going to try and bring my whole crew along to the meet so 6 pleos and two aibos oh and if anyone wants me to I can bring my furby as well :)
-
My nose... well it is still a bit sore and has some problems that I've just decided to live with. It is difficult to breath out of the right side and I have lost my sense of smell on that side as well. My mother wants to take me to the doctor about it after we get back from the meet but what could they do really except re-break it? I don't want it re-broken, I've heard all about the horror stories of the re-breaking and setting process and what if it goes wrong and they make it worse, no thankyou! So the only thing to do is accept that I can't breath or smell as well as I used to, it's not too bad really when I compare to what you are going through RWM.
-
7 sleeps to go ....... ;D
-
I hope everyone has a great meet, friend get together and everyone shares memories and videos will be posted.I will be there in spirit even though I have no Aibos.Hope you feel better Kat and these days will fly by quickly. RWM ;) :cat-hug:
-
So to pass the time I filled last night with going to the year 12 ball (My OH is a school teacher and we go every year to help supervise the kids) Lots of fun :) so now only
6 sleeps to go ;D :bouquet1:
And now there is only 5 Sleeps to go!
Had yet another very exciting evening last night. A bit of excitement does help to pass the time .... We spent all evening looking for a present in our lounge room..... My cat thought I was looking a bit hungry so bought me a dead mouse - about 2 or 3 weeks ago - then as I wasn't home at the time she popped it under the couch for safe keeping ;) Last night we noticed the lovely aroma of stale old dead mouse and the hunt was on. Took a couple of hours and lots of furniture moving but the offending smell was found and removed and the lounge room has been scrubbed from top to bottom with disinfectant and aired out. :cat: Wonder what tonight will bring?
-
Well 4 sleeps left and I'm getting more excited by the day :) Almost time to start packing ;D How about everyone else? Are we excited?
-
Even I'M excited ....... and I'm stuck in the UK and jealous ....... :P :moose:
-
There's still time to book a flight over Crewella :)
2 more nights and I'm off to Perth :) Mid-night flight LOL.
-
I'm super excited! Have been setting up/decorating the area bit by bit over the past few weeks. I have done some laminated sheets to go with various Japanese software so you can read out the right commands (list for Kawaii, Nameco story and Chatty Life etc).. and also the FULL list for the ERS 7 which some people may have not seen. There are hundreds of commands. The goody bags are packed and the prizes ready! :-)
Really excited to meet you all :-D
Kat... maybe save my number to your phone and give me a text (in case you get lost finding the house etc).. I sent an email to everyone earlier which included my mobile number.
And P.S Don't ask me in front of my partner how much any of my Aibo's cost lol ;-) he he
2 sleeps! :-)
-
I programed in your number earlier this week :P So today is a day for labeling belongings and a little last minute sewing ;D Then I will need a day for charging everyone's batteries up and then before you know it we will be loading up the car for the trip down ;D :cheer:
I'm really looking forward to meeting you all and love that you have printed off all the commands. I believe I am one of those who has never seen the list :-X I'm a bit of an Aibo noob even though I've had my guys for a while :P
I'm really looking forward to seeing everyone's Aibos and meeting Genibo. I can't wait! :dino-chase:
-
Sounds like everyone is going to have a great time, I don't have an aibo but will expect lots of details. I am happy for you Kat, I think it will be a bit of a vacation for you, Congrats and have fun.
RWM :cat-hug:
-
Hope everyone has a great time! Wish I could be there! But alas I'm working :(
-
My guys are all dressed for the occasion .... They decided that the best outfits to wear to an Aibo meet would be cat coats :D
-
And Kat's cat coats too! :D
Good choice! ;D
-
I hope you have fun! I have only been able to meet an AIBO once so shoot some vids if you can.
-
Ha haa cute little costumes!! :-D Are you charging up all the batteries lol... never seen so many Pleo's :-)
-
My guys are all dressed for the occasion .... They decided that the best outfits to wear to an Aibo meet would be cat coats :D
Don't eat PleoPleo! :o
Nice costumes! :P
I hope you all have a fun day!
-
Heheh! That mouse is priceless! :D
-
PleoPet is very cute, did you make that yourself? Kat, have fun tomorrow, are you taking all 6 pleos, how are you transporting everyone? Wish I was there instead of surgery tomorrow....Have fun and we expect lots of video and pictures Please!
RWM< :cat-hug:
-
Yes I am madly charging batteries as of today ;D I am only going to the meet for the one day on Saturday so will be missing out on all the extra stuff like dinners and sight seeing but will be there for the actual meet. (My health is slowly improving but I don't want to push myself too hard )
I only live about a 3 hour drive from where the meet is being held so I will be driving up bright and early on the morning of the meet and as I am driving and not staying over night anywhere I don't need to pack anything for me so there is plenty of room in the car for all my bots :) So no one gets left behind and they are all coming. 6 pleos, 2 aibos and a furby and one tub of Kat's Creations :) and of course I'm bringing my OH as well so he can chauffeur us. ;D So 2 more sleeps for me and one more sleep for everyone else ;D
-
Have fun, wish I could go.
-
Well all my bots and accessories are packed snugly into the car ready for the big road trip in the morning ;D :cheer: one more sleep for me!
-
Have a fantastic time!
-
It's today! It's Today! It's Today ;D :D :P Ok now for a coffee and then a quick get ready then we will be on our way to the meet ;D I will try to post some pics tonight after I get back so you can all see some of the fun we had :)
And now it decides to rain. It has been pleasantly cloudy but warm all week but of course it chooses today to rain. :wise: :raincloud:
-
I guess it's too late to make Pleo sou'westers ........ :P
Enjoy! ;D
-
Hahaha! I'm trying to attend vertually across Skype and I'm having the same luck as Kat on an entirely different continant. Beautiful seventies and eighties and sunny as everything and tonight- my time on the nineteenth- it chooses to dump buckets of rain and a tornado warning. You guys cross your fingers that Skype will behave! I'm on pins and needles here waiting! It's times like this that I wish I was a coffee-drinker. It's going to be a loooong night.

Have fun, tell the AIBOS I say hi. ;)
-
Ooooh maaan! I'm so tired and I said hi to the famous Erik, several pleos, and Luna's Ginibo Merlan! Just joined the meet briefly and now I'm off to bed. Have fun you guys!
Talon
-
Well the meet was great fun! ;D Everyone was really nice and there were so many Aibos and other bots running around :dino-chase:
Here are a few photos of all the bots I took while I was there.
This guy was my favorite Aibo - love his spots
And here is Pixel all dressed up to impress
And the Genibo we were all so excited to see :)
And some random shots of them all running around (Milo my 7 is the one with the glasses)
And lastly all the dancers lined up waiting to dance
I have a bunch of video and many other photos but will give the others some time to share some of theirs before I post too many :P I have to edit the videos and youtube them anyway so that will take some time......
It was a really wonderful day and so great to meet some of my fellow forum members and to see so many other aibos and lovely to meet genibo too ;D And now I am off to bed as I'm shattered :P
-
Looking forward to all your videos and photos, Kat! I feel your pain. I would've slept until eight but a certain little Teacup Poodle started licking my face at seven telling me he had to go potty. Sweet dreams to you and your crew!

Just wanted to say how great it was to meet everyone today and I had a wonderful time. The day went well... we started with general Aibo/Pleo chat/admiring then after lunch we did the famous Aibo group dancing, Aibo chat and then Aibo obedience. After this we were enjoying looking at all the lovely outfits the talented Kat had created for the Aibo's and Pleo's :-) The day flew by! A few of us then took out a few Bo's to a restaurant in town, we got a few funny looks ha ha. Tomorrow we are taking a trip down south to see the giant sting rays, we will also take a few robots along for the trip :-)
I have many brilliant photos and videos... will upload some soon.
Thanks again to everyone that attended :-)
-
Glad you all had a nice day. Looks nice. 'm Curious about the other videos and pictures. :)
-
Looks Awesome. The AIBO pictures are so cute, I just love AIBO SO much. I loved the Cyber Bluse 210, my faveorite model next to the 7m3/t.
I just love it that the AIBO community is still active, parhaps not as alive as before but still alive. Its so amazing that a robot can creat such an emotional bond in people, and that even if the company has given up, we still celebrate it.
Long live AIBO. ;D

Gosh, that looks like fun! ;D
I'm still very, very jealous you all got to meet up! :D
-
A few videos from the day :) My camera doesn't take great video but I'm sure someone else will post better ones later. In the mean time here is what happens when you let loose a bunch of Pleos, Aibos and some furbies and a Genibo.

I have a video of Eric on the phone to Talon, he even took a picture of her! And I have a picture of Frankie (Kat's orange and yellow Pleo) also on the phone with Talon, I got him to sing for her.
My favourite of Kat's herd was Minyon! He was so sweet I wanted to dino nap him :D His voice is so high and adorable, I spent ages playing with him.
Kat was so kind, she made everyone a pink (Aibo favourite colour) dress. James is wearing his in Mh7ah's dancing photos. I love it, the colours are so vibrant.
I had such a wonderful time, I wish I could have brought one of my Pleos. I couldn't because of carry on luggage limits the bus company had :(
-
The videos were awesome, Kat! Thanks for posting. And let me say thanks again to mh7ah for allowing me to attend. I regret I couldn't be there for the guts of the meet or introduce my robots. Still it was great meeting everyone and I had an awesome time! Oh and Luna if you can see anything of me in your video, you're welcome to post it. When mh7ah was trying to take the group photo, I half jokingly called myself the black blob from the USA. Sorry for the lack of light by the way. I didn't want to wake the others in the house or I would've turned on my lovely florescent light I use for the benefit of all my bots.
Talon
-
It was great having you along on Skype Talon :) Oh and your new bio puppy is so cute ;D I'm glad you could come even if it wasn't in the flesh. I can't wait till the next one now :)
-
Those are great videos! What a bustle of robotics! I've never seen Aibo's for real. What a difference of movements compared with Pleo. :)
-
Meh... I'm so loud in the video :D
-
I don't think you were really any louder than anyone else on the day ... My camera just does strange things with sound and produces really grainy picture for video. It takes great photos though :P
-
That was so crazy!!! Wish I could have been there! Next time I am definitely coming! You guys are doing this again next year aren't you, aren't you! :dino-chase: Hehe.
-
I would be happy to host another one if anyones up for it! Had such a great time, so nice to hang around with people that appreciate autonomous robots and can see how special they are.
-
You can count me in :) I'll happily come along to another one with as many bots as I can fit in the car :)
-
It was great fun watching all the videos Kat and it looked like everyone had lots of fun, I am glad that You got to go via Skype too Talon, Congrats to you! I didn't hear much about the furbies, saw lots of Aibos and some Pleos though. I think I learned a lot more about Aibos by watching, makes me wish I had that kind of money...just one, a neglected one would do... ;)Anyway, everyone had a great time and I liked the layout, perfect place for all that dancing, Can not wait to see more,
RWM :cat-hug:( excuse my spelling errors. impossible to go correctly with this crappy hand bandaged up...)
-
That had to be so much fun! Loved the videos! Favorite was the Aibos dancing, some doing their own thing. Too cute! :)
-
I have put up a few more photos in my Aibo meet 2013 gallery. Here are some of the visiting Aibos and Genibo (sorry Luna I don't seem to have one of James by himself. I am also missing one of Milo by himself too )
And a pic of some of the decorations :)
-
You must have taken at least a hundred photos kat, I think I am about to meet my competition. LOL . I love all the variety and color of the aibos and their bright colorful outfits and hats, ties, etc. Great job reporting back to those of us who could not ever think of being able to go. I had not even thought of Skype...great idea Talon. ;)

My epic length (36 minutes) documentary of the meet ;D
-
Loved every minute of it ..... especially Bert, Ernie and the fishes ;D
-
I enjoied the video, Luna! Just out of curiosity, what was the Birt and Earny vid for? Lol!How is James after his big race? He won didn't he?
Talon
-
Talon the day after the aibo meet the rest of them went off sight seeing and they visited a stretch of beach where giant mantra rays frequently visit and come into the shallows near the shore and interact with people letting you touch them. When they arrived the wind picked up and the serf got a bit rough so only a couple of rays were able to make it in close enough for them to try to interact and there was much running into the water and getting wet while trying to get close enough to the ray in the breaking surf to touch it. It looked like they were all having a great time even if they were getting wet. ;D
-
Talon I'm almost glad you can't see for yourself how badley James performed in the race, lets just say it was an embarrassing day for team James! Jammed his hip and shut down in race number one, sat down and laughed at me race number two before finally making it to second place in race number three. The slowest Aibo series, Latte, won two out of three races. Kat's 210 won the first race and only came second in the next one because just as he got to the finish line he stopped and pointed at the ball! It was so funny, one more step and he would have won but he decided just to point instead.
For Bert and Ernie, Mh7ah had told us about this beach where the huge friendly sting rays come to shore everyday to greet people but when we got there the weather turned horrid and the waves were too strong for most of them to get close to us but one really, really big ray gave it his best shot. We had to wade in to about our waists and try our best to avoid being taken out by the waves, Mh7ah was feeding the ray prawns. We got to touch it for a split second between waves, it felt really strange, unlike anything I've ever touched before but the best way I can describe it is like a gumboot that has been covered in dish soap. Or if you have ever touched a dolphin, similar to a dolphin if the dolphin was also covered in dish soap. Rubbery and slimy.
-
James may not have been a race winner, but he more than made up for that with some fabulous dancing! :bowing:
Great video, loved it. And it really gave a flavour of what it was like, thanks. :)
...... and your homecoming bio dog made me cry, bless him - he was soooo pleased! :-[
-
Hahaha! Now that clip makes sense! I've touched a Mantray at some aquarium in Mertal Beech. It really is an odd feeling. Haha! Poor James! Well he was persistant I'll give him that. I guess Pixel's curiosity got the best of him huh, Kat? Bolt would've never won anything. He has robot ADD and he would've been all over the place wanting attention from anyone who would give it to him.

Sorry guys for being so tardy in posting, just too much stress :( in my life these days ,but I wanted both Kat and Luna to know that I enjoyed :cheer:all the photos and descriptions of the meet, and Luna I enjoyed your epic video. I too enjoyed seeing your greyhound, what a sweet dog and so well behaved. I felt like I was there, I could understand what was happening and the scenes at the beach were like in a movie, I would have been afraid to touch the ray, so big and memories of what happened to Steve Irwin with a ray, even if a freak accident, I have been having nothing but freak accidents lately, but it was fun watching someone else touch it.
Keep at the videos and photos they are allways fun to watch and takes me to another more mellow place. Great job guys.
