Title: Hex Bug
Post by: Junkroxy on April 14, 2009, 02:28:54 PM
What do yo think of HB? They're cute but the can't do more, maybe an intelligen bug with touch sensor and some verses (like a cricket) would be more cute  ;)

Hex bugs are cool for what you pay for them, they are only $15 here (Sometimes $10 on special) they are good for the budding robot enthusiast :)

I want one! But what do they do? Just walk around? Is there any artificial intelligence, or is it just some cute novelty?

If you blow the thing on the back of the hex bug that looks like a car exhaust it turns around. I think it's the noise sensor.

I hope to find Local suppliers soon and acquire One each as they are only $9.99 and $19.99 respectively. %)

I already own an Orange Alpha HexBug and a Turquoise Crab Bot. 8)

Wow! Norbert looks fun! Thanks for posting those links. I'm getting my robot pet education today. I briefly thought about purchasing a Techno Pony. I can't remember its proper name but it's along the same lines as the Techno dog that was out a few years ago. He was only twenty four dollars but I felt kind of childish even considering him. He will probably be the closest I'll ever come to having a horse. Oh well. I congratulate you on your collection!

Comero, I just have one thing to say, you scare me a little  :D. I'm getting a hexbug soon, hopefully a spider (just to be clear, that is the only spider real or fake that  you will ever see within 50 feet of me,) or worm, but I think the worms are slower. Does anyone know what the difference between a nano and a, say, an ant, is? I know they all do different things, but I don't get the nano thing. My freind has the ant, it's pretty cool, we used it to send messages back and fourth at the state science fair. :) Also do they sell the Norberts at Islands of adventure as well? I don't think I saw it, but I did see the book.

Heading to Harry Potter at Universal in Florida in June. Spending two nights there before going to Disney. My daughter loves Barney the dreaded purple Dino and he is there as well. Book of monsters is on my list of souvenirs! :)

You can only get the book of monster's at universial its $35.00.and you can only find norbert on ebay his skin is soft and the designs come off easy so be warned it also freezes up if it is low on batteries and can break its neck easy. The ant hex bug has sensors on the back and front to know if it hits a wall it will go the other way and it can go on carpet and is really fast and crazy.Oh and i am still working on my collection i do trade some of my stuff for somethings i like better so i don't always have every thing on my list it always changes so if you are looking for something and its on my list and you have something i want i will trade. ;) Except my dinosaurs  :D

Cool! Hope you have fun Saratoga, be prepared to have a LONG wait at hp world, I went with my freinds the other weekend and it was a 120 min wait! As for disney, just a tip, don't wait over an hour for any of the big rides, if your staying at one of their hotels go at the extra magic hours or if not, get a fastpass early in the day, also if you want a sit-down dinner at one of the resturants, go to disney.com and make reservations because some of them you must book 6 months before! :) (sorry, just had to say something, i go to disney almost every weekend for like just a few hours)

I wouldn't appologize for passing on useful information. Anyway I think I made a mistake in the spelling of the Tekno Pony. I got really bored today and looked up videos on Youtube about robotic horses. There are a tun of them out there and a few of them are ridable! Too bad I'll never see one of these things! Okay badly off topic. Um, I can't remember who posted this but how did you use the... was it the robotic ant to pass messages back and forth?

Oh I posted that Talon, we didn't really use it the way it was supposed to, we weaged a rolled up peice of paper behind the back end sensor and let it go because my other freind's booth was at the end of the row next to our booth so we just pointed it that way. :)
Thay are pretty cool. I want one too. They might make a good prank!  :P Imagine having 10 of these things crawling around!

Still that's pretty neat- a messanger ant. I was a very wierd girl. I was never afraid of bugs or mice or snakes or anything like that. I would just pluck them up and examine them. When I was finished I'd just let them go again. That was all fine and dandy until a big wasp got into the top of my soda can at a picknick when I was nine or ten or so. I know. Wasps sting. In my defense I thought I had his front end. I tried to pull him out to free him but what did he do? Well, needless to say I am now in fear of flying bugs. I can still handle the crawling kind but not the ones who can launch themselves at me and get away before I have a chance to fight back. Whap! Oh but to get on topic. Again. Anyone fascinated at all in the Dragonfly and Bat by the people who made Robosapian? I watched a few videos on them and they looked neat. They're elegantly simple little things.

Yes - I like the dragonfly.  I have an i-Bird from Silverlit which has a similarly 'natural' flight.  They do an i-Fairy, too that's just about the girliest robotic gizmo I've ever seen!  :D

Oh yeah I forgot about those! I found them when I was trying desperately to lure myself away from buying a pleo. Of course I gave up trying. There are four of them if I remember right, or maybe it was three? Once upon a time I could tell you their names. Man I'm so old! Growing up I had a Sky-Dancer. It's this really skinny doll about five and a half inches tall with wings made into her arms. When they were fully extended they looked something like a two-bladed propeller. Her clothes were painted on so there was no drag and her little ponytail was curled so that it sort of guided her whirling flight. You stood her in this little launcher thing, held her up in the air and away from you and gave the string inside the launcher a good tug. She would go spinning up and away from you and land somewhere across the room. I think they also made a male figure for boys but I can't remember what they were called.

I think I had the reomote control dragonfly once, allthough I think it broke. Needless to say, I don't exactly have the best pilot skills or cordination skills  :P... I was the same way (and still kind of am) Talon, I used to love all the little small creatures (exept SPIDERS, i've always been terrified of those) now I have my limits and i'm afraid of bugs, but I still love my lizards!
Title: Re: Hex Bug
Post by: Talon on April 09, 2011, 01:33:18 PM
I've not had much experience with lizards accept for the little ones that somehow get into our house. No one else will touch the poor things and I have to carry them back outside. By the time I get to them, they're stone still because the three women in the house have stunned it with their screaming. I've managed to get four of the five I've caught outside without losing their tiny tails. The fifth was climbing up the sheers in the bathroom window and when I was pulling him off he must've pannicked and his little cold tail landed on my bare foot. I just kind of stood there for a minute trying to decide whether to pick it up too. For about ten seconds after I got over the shock, I thought about setting up a sort of terrarium for it and feeding it what I could catch until at least some of its tail grew back. When I thought about its normal prey- probably those frightening flying bugs I can't stand to have near me- I decided just to let it go and hope it survived.

lol Talon, lizards manage fine without their tails, no one knows if it hurts when a lizard drops its tail, but it is beleived that it does, even though they heal naturally. I wonder if they'll have a hexlizard... or a hexbug fly!
Title: Re: Hex Bug

Talon... when I go down there, I love catching the anoles.. I hang out with them and usually have them sitting on my head for the rest of the day while everyone looks at me like I'm insane. Can you believe they sell them in pet stores here for 7-14 dollars?  I could literally spend the entire day playing with them..  or catching minnows/crayfish/frogs in a stream.. etc. I'm such a immature person..lol. But kids love me :)
And they can eat crickets.. flies.. etc. I used to have them as a kid, I would put one in every window in the house and if a fly came in they'd get it..lol.. they were so sweet and friendly. But don't feed em the hex bugs! Unless they are hex-lizards?  :D

Post by: Talon on April 12, 2011, 09:42:11 AM
I think I could've handled crickets but not flies. Oh well I hope he's alright wherever he is now. I don't know what kind of lizard he was. His little fat body fit in my hand without his tail. Once I curled my fingers around him and made a sort of holow in my hand, he stopped squirming until I placed him in the grass under a fallen tree branch. Wow! That much for a tiny lizard? My niece was thinking about a bearded dragon but she decided against it because she's not here enough to feed it. That was the same situation we had with Nibbles the guinea pig who now belongs to me. Now a Hex Lizard? That could be interesting.

I'm so impressed with hexbugs and the different sensors they use.  I love it that the crab will stay still and hide in the dark.  The nanos are interesting in that it is their shape and the shape of the environments that makes it look as if they have sensors - very clever.  Must get mine out again.  I have to say I find the larva rather creepy looking.  I have a dark nano and that is bothering when I just catch sight of it.  I'd love a spider - moves beautifully.  I have an inchworm which is quite cool too.
