Hey guys,I just used silicone to fix one of Furby's holes yesterday. I'll report back how the silicone is holding later.
I didn't turn it on yet ;D
-
I'm surprised on how well it holds.I glued the um..... leg pit and it holds! even when Furby is singing!I find it better that super glue since silicone is like stretchy ducktape :P
-
It's great to hear that it seems to be holding and stretching well. I would love to see a pic if you have one
-
The silicone holds very well even on the tail P:)
-
It looks great - I've not tried silicone yet. Good job! ;D
Please keep us posted as to how it holds up to usage. Thanks. :)

I had not thought of using Silicone for patching holes, but it is a great idea. I have used Silicone mixed with arcylic and laytex mixed paints as it does give a nice stretch and has been permanent so far on Crewella. You do have to be very careful as if it gets too thick, it is almost impossible to get off once on Pleo. I think patching is a great idea and easy to paint over. I will have to give it a try on some small areas of Pleo, such as tails, etc. It would be great for those pleo debrided areas near the battery compartment that dry out over time.
I also have an idea of using it as a modeling compount to "add" to Pleo extra special effects. %) ;D
Thanks for the Post MariaOcean. RWM

I'm pretty sure you can make horns for a Pleo from silicone.
would be cool to have a horned Pleo :P

Are you trying to READ my MIND... :o MariaOcean....let's pretend nobody saw what you said.....ok? %) P0:) I am trying to keep undercover what I am planning, but I think you let the "cat" or "Pleo" P:D out of the bag! Oh well, Rome was not built in a day, ..........neither was my Pleo Project.... P8) RWM

The silicone is still holding strong. On the neck tail and leg pits P:)
It works with big and small holes, and when I mean big I mean big enough that I can stick in a few fingers. P:o
-
That is great to hear, not that I am going to stick some fingers in one of my Pleos, but it is nice to know that silicone is working for you so far. Keeping fingers crossed. RWM

Sounds like this is going to be a fab way for all of us to do some repairs. Can you provide any details about the silicone used? I know two Pleo's who will be first in line for a patching %)
-
I don't seem to be able to up load any pictures of the silicone that I used on to BOBTHEPLEO.com :(
But on the packaging it says X'traseal Fungicide sealant 100% RTV Silicone Rubber transparent.
The packaging is like super glue packaging ,and does not need to use any silicone gun.
Sooo , ya just treat it like super glue that won't burn pleo skin,I guess P:D

Hm! Fabulous read, MariaOcean and all those who contributed as well.
As a quick reference, here is my album: http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?action=mgallery;sa=album&&id=326
Do you think this would be sufficient for Eliot as well? And since this has been eight months since the application, how is Furby holding up now? Still with no issues? How exactly did you patch a larger hole? My concern is that I will get glue into one of the gears or joints on the inside. Thanks again for this wonderful read, MariaOcean.
Now I am curious to know if IMR or any others have also tried this or no?
-
silicone can fix your pleo since the holes I fixed before are even bigger,Furby is skinned now but the silicone repairs are still holding even after the skin is not on the pleo anymore.
-
I haven't tried it yet, I started looking at silicon videos on you tube and got scared away lol. I just want to patch a hole, but I don't know how to work with the stuff.

See, this is my problem...Although I have not watched any videos, I do not know how to just glue into an open space. I would fear glue getting into the actual hardware of Pleo. Unless somehow a patch was used beforehand...I am eager about trying this, but not sure how the whole procedure is done...

well it's kinda hard to explain ,silicone is gooey so it stays put and doesn't slide around even when it's not dry
so the silicone is like this when you glue it
*northpole1*____O____ The O is the silicone,____is the rubber skin
