Title: Augmented reality dinosaur Apps for iphone, ipod touch and ipad :)

I found these rather randomly while trolling for apps to use at school. They are pretty neat to play with.

The first comes with two interactive dinosaurs, it is currently free but is usually 99 cents. You hold your idevice up, point it at a note (denominations are listed in the app) and viola! a dinosaur appears :) I just printed off a US $1 bill to use since no Australian currencies were supported, and that worked fine. This one is called DinosaurAR.

The second app is more geared towards children, with chubby, colourful dinos to play with. It is also free and comes with twelve dinosaurs, as far as I can tell they are not interactive in this app, but they do have nice animations. You need to use colour images to get these ones to work. I don't have any coloured ink at the moment so I just put them up on my ipod screen. You must have the pictures for the app to render the dinosaur for you. The app name is AR Dinosaurs.

I don't understand, is it like a projection? Like the holodeck on Star Trek? Magic?

It's a 3D dinosaur that is triggered on the screen in response to the visual imput to the camera. So when you look through the iPad you see a dinosaur standing there, but when you look from elsewhere you see nothing. The kids at school thought it was magic ;)

Back in my day when I was at school we all just about fell over when we were shown the new Paperclip character on microsoft publisher, I feel old now   :'(

 :o So through the ipad, it really is 3D! That's amazing... aww IMR, what I wouldn't give to go back in time and become one of your students! Your kids must be having a blast with you as their teacher ;)
