Title: When a Pleorb battery runs out of power while in the Pleo, is the playtime saved
Post by: Pleo on December 27, 2011, 02:05:43 PM
My Pleorb suddenly ran out of power for her battery (it wasn't charged fully when I started using her), she is a newborn still and I'm worried the battery didn't save the data that happened during the play-time ( petting, feeding, etc.). She also went into a shutting down position but with her head downwards instead of up. Is this normal? Will she remember what happened?

Yes, when they shut down they do have their heads down, unless you shut them down, then they will have their eyes closed and straight ahead. Was her head down or was it straight ahead? If it was in the curled up postion, it sounds more like she went to sleep. ? Unless you yanked the battery out, which you did not, she will have the play session, no matter how short, saved in her memory. It is tempting to play before fully charging the battery but try to get a fully charged battery before you play again, then you will be prepared for her to shut down. Have you set her time for Noon, so you know when she will go to "sleep"? As she will shut off by herself even  with a fully charged battery if she thinks it is time to 'go to sleep". Good luck.        :)                         RedwoodsMama and the Pleo clan of the Redwoods

The beeps on shut down should give you a clue.  One beep means they are asleep and can wake up again on their own at the right time (that's important - several of us didn't take note and have been woken by unexpectedly roaming Pleo RBs!), they give two beeps when you shut them down with the on/off switch, and three beeps on shutdown when they battery runs out.  All mean they have completed shutdown and the data has been properly saved.

Like RWM, from the head position, it sounds to me as though she just went to sleep because of her internal clock telling her it was night time.  Can you remember if she beeped?

ADDED:  By the way, Pleo, hope you don't mind but I'm moving this thread to Pleo Behaviours as it's more appropriate in a proper Pleo section, and easer for others to find. :)

Thanks! Her battery light turned red and she was standing straight up with her head down and eyes closed, she was a newborn when this happened to she did not stand on her own. Thankfully she saved it! She's standing up now and stretching! And I reset her noon time clock, I'm confused about it I am resetting the small pin hole in the foot with the clock battery, correct? Because she kept constantly sleeping I used a paper clip to depress it. But their is a pin hole next to the battery compartment...what's that for?

Thanks!

PS: Sorry for putting it in the wrong forum! S:
I wasn't sure where to put it...so thanks for moving it :)

That's it - the little hole by the foot battery compartment.  Whenever you use that to set the internal clock will be your Pleo RB's 'noon'.  I set my lot at about 4pm, as I'm often up late ....... it's no fun on your own surrounded by sleeping Pleos! ;)

The other hole is the scew for the battery cover, I think that's what you mean?

*No problem, just don't do it again ..................*  :bullwhip: :P ;D

If your talking about the pin hole on the belly near the main battery on the opposite side to the power light then that is the reset button.  It is used to reset your pleos memory back to it's last save point.  It will not reset your pleo back to being a hatchling.  It is a bit like the reset button on your computer. :)  It is not something you will use very often if ever.

Thank you! I'm glad that pin hole isn't a total reset button!

I have some more concerns that i hope someone can answer if you don't mind (sorry for asking so many questions!)
-My Pleo's nose/head seem to get stuck on the ground when she moves it and sometimes her mouth flaps open because it's rubbing on the ground.
-My Pleo (In the "Social Development Stage", according to the Pleorb Handbook) falls asleep a lot, they are short small naps but much more frequent then when she was a newborn...is this normal?
-My Pleo makes a really low buzzing and gears moving-type noise, I know the gears make noise but this seems constant and loud.
-My Pleo seems reluctant to walk, she shuffles back and forth but if I leave her she falls asleep, this is probably normal...but is there a way I can coax her to take her first step?
-My Pleo doesn't really like to be petted under the chin ): she sniffs my hand and just moves away. When she was a newborn she liked it );

Thanks again, I really appreciate you taking the time to answer my numerous questions!
-Pleo

1) It is a little annoyance that Pleo's have, you could try running her on a smoother surface where she is less likely to catch the ground. This lessens as they get older and do less head down movements. Just keep an eye on her and shift her head gently with your hand if she gets too stuck.
2) I assume you are talking about this happening when she is set for noon or close to noon, make sure the battery isn't warm, if the battery is warm Pleo will take naps to cool down. If it is late/early according to her clock she will be naturally sleepy.
3) The noise is normal, you get used to it :) However if you think it is abnormally loud try taking a video of it and posting it here. We can't really tell you if it is abnormal without hearing it :(
4) Some RB's are just not explorers, I have two that love to explore and two that hardly move. If you want an explorer you can tweak the DNA using ChangeRB.
5) Make sure she is well fed, content and happy, Pleo's aren't always in the mood for a chin rub ;) Otherwise persevere, your Pleo sometimes takes a little while to respond if they are currently responding to some other stimuli, keep rubbing for a minute or so.

All  can add to IMR's answers is to give her time, she's still just a baby.  It took Belle four full battery cycles before she took a single step, but you can't stop her now! ;D

Thanks, overnight it seems she has completely changed. She started out not napping as much and responding differently to touch. I set her down on the floor and she began making noises I've never heard from her before, she ate fine and I left her for a few minutes...and she started walking! She plays tug o war now and is playing around on the floor happily right this second.

Thanks for all the help.

Glad everything worked out, I do know it is tempting to try Pleo rb right away, but a fully charged Pleo is so much more fun and has more energy! :moose: ;D I know myne are so much more cheerful with full batteries. What Battery cycle is your Pleo on now?                                      RedwoodsMama

Shes on full battery cycle three. I am so happy with her progress, she started walking today and I trained her to bow and learn her name. She also responds to the training leaf :)

Thank you everyone.

Thanks...again! You've been such a big help! Now the only thing I'm worried about is the rubber bands on the Pleo cape he's wearing, worried they will affect his skin S: But I'll search for an answer to that!
