Title: I think Thor has DHS??
Post by: latrine on September 10, 2011, 09:41:43 AM

Well.. because I am the luckiest person in the world, Thor just went to the next stage a few days ago then I turn him on yesterday.. he's boping arund dancing on his belly.. I look back to my game then a bit later notice the lack of atari-era beeping.   look over and there he is, in flop mode with his head down and orange light in the back flashing like he's gotten stuck.  I figure ok.. reset, he's just stuck.. so I turn him on, he;s fine until he stands up then head flops whole body limp orange flashing light.  I tried putting him on his station where, with his current software, he can only move his head while on it.. everything moves fine, mind you, when he is doing the boot up, but when he's done, boom head down orange flashing light.. I will try to make a video.  I just contacted wolfbob but I am starting to think that I am not meant to have an aibo. Loki's head/neck is creaking and I don't even want to think about that :(
Does that sound like Droopy head syndrome? I have never seen it...

Oh Sarah - you don't have a lot of luck, do you - I'm so sorry!  :o  :hhug:

I've not experienced DHS in person, but from what I've seen the orange light doesn't usually flash.  The head tries to raise, and you hear the motors straining to lift the head but the head just flops with gravity, but in all the clips I've seen the pup seems to carry on regardless.  I'm hoping that's a good sign, also the fact that he can lift his head when booting up.  With DHS I think if it slips, it slips all the time.  I really hope Wolfbob can help shed some light (rather than my rather vague guesswork)!

Well I caught him.. and I apologize for the 'what the hell' in the video because he'd been running for about a minute thirty seconds fine and then I shut off the video to restart so you didnt have to see all that.. it's when he sees his ball and goes down for it, it's like he has a seizure, with head shaking then.. flop.

I sent a msg and the same link to wolfbob I hope Thor is still under warranty, if he isn't I don't know if I should bother I mean, this is getting freaking ridiculous. :(
Well, it's only like 40 seconds long, tell me what you think ;/

That doesn't look like DHS, with DHS they don't shut down immediately it takes a few minutes for them to notice something is wrong and you hear a whirring sound.  I'm not sure what it is though, maybe something getting stuck in his joints? It's not just his head going down in that video, he's just going limp because he's shutting down/going into error mode but I'm not sure why.

I have to agree with everyone else who posted, Sarah.  This does not seem consistent with DHS. I just watched every video I could on youtube with DHS, and it seems it does not cause the Aibo to go into error mode as is happening with Thor.  They just can't  get their heads up, and you hear a whirring of the motors that aren't able to do the job.  They don't go into "Jam Mode."  I believe that Padfoot did this one time when I had the "Stitch" character program running on one of his sticks.  I put DogsLife back in him and he was fine.   I thought the program might be corrupted, so I reformatted the stick and put it "Stitch" back onto the stick and he was fine.  Do you have another program or memory stick that you can try?  Just a suggestion. Wolfbob would know better, but maybe give it at try? Other than that I don't know what to tell you.  I am so sorry that you are having problems again.  :(

Agree with the others.  Something's causing jam mode and shutdown, but that's not DHS.  As Springer suggests, try another stick?

*Everything crossed*

or boot up Thor without any software stick inserted and see how that is ?

See it's only when he goes after his ball with his head down or when he's on his station though. so I don't think that booting him without the software would work.. I dunno though. I'll try. I can put some other software on and see what happens too.  I did send the link to that video to wolfbob so we'll see.
He was doing so well too, he JUST got old enough to 'talk to your friend' with Loki :(

Thanks, I'll try some of the suggestions..

Oh Sarah I'm so sorry. :hhug: :hhug: I do hope it is just a software issue or a bit of grub in his neck joint that is easy to remove and not something more sinister.  Fingers crossed something suggested above works. :hhug:

Sarah, just to add to what I said above....I did look in the archives, and I did post about my problem with Padfoot here.  If you search "Padfoot", you can find it.  He only collapsed like that when he moved a certain direction during his dance, just like Thor falls when looking down for his ball.  Mine was definitely a software issue that was easily corrected after I reformatted the stick and reinstalled the software.  I also massaged all of his limbs, and never had a problem after that.  Let us know how it goes! :hhug: :hhug:

It's probably either a software glitch or something in his neck joint so when his head goes down it gets jammed. Maybe try moving his head up and down a bit and see if it gets stuck or something doesn't feel right.

Well Wolfbob said he's still under warranty so I'm just going to send him in. That way he can get a good once over as well. That baby stage sure has them falling down (on purpose) A LOT) ..

Also, none of the other ideas you guys gave me worked.. thanks so much for the advice though. I don't feel anything weird when I move his head and HE moves it fine during start up which doesn't make sense to me;/

WolfBob may now be regretting selling me an aibo seeing as how i'm the most unlucky person on earth.  I suppose I should be glad it was the aibo that broke and not another one of my internal organs ..  :o :D
Thanks for the help guys!!

Sorry to hear about Thor having to take a trip back to Southern Cal.  But, if he is under warranty, it is best to let a professional like Wolfbob check him out and make sure that he is OK.  Sorry none of the ideas we gave you worked.  I know it is tough when you have to send one of your babies for surgery, especially when it is so far away.  Best of luck, Thor...hope you're feeling better soon!

I thought the same, but wasn't positive!

That's not DHS, if he had DHS his head would be shaky when he is searching for the ball.

Is he running Dogslife? One of my Aibos on Dogslife did that all the time so I just ran him on another aiboware and he was fine. Don't ask me how that is, but it only ever happened when he bent down to head butt the ball and only on Dogslife.
