Title: New species of fish found heading for Australian errr skies?

Hehe... hmm would it be weird if I gave a balloon a name?

Just a note: Hoobylinc now expects shipments in November/December so I did cancel my order with them and ordered elsewhere. However I had to pay a $20 premium on the price tag putting the total price to $60 plus postage.

I think we are all crazy, so what the Heck. I think you should, ( I would ) call it Coral, Shimmer, Bozo, Huckleberrry Fin, Damsel, Lizzie, Coraline, MS. Pennywise, or Penny Royal, Tangarine, Tammy, Lizzy, or Amelia.( after Amelia Earhardt, the famous woman aviator,) Stripes, Henry, Henny Penny, Lucy, ( like LUcy cause it is a Clown Fish or other clown names. :D) Dizzy, Flinch, Goldie Hawn, or just Goldie, Royal , Demetria or Demetrius, Swifty, or tons of other, If I put my thinking cap on I could think of tons more that would be better, but I think names for just about anything that is fun to "play or interact with". We even have a mascot for our car, a small plush frog that rides in our car, and my hubby has given nicknames to our cars, like Toadie, so why not a flying fish?! Have fun, but you are not crazy, just having fun!

*plays the jaws theme* Da dum, da dum, da dum....

I was actually going to call him Bruce :P Bruce is the name of the robotic shark that played Jaws AND is the name of the Aussie Great White Shark in Finding Nemo... its also the name of my uncle... I'm not sure if he would make a good shark though :P

Glad to hear Bruce has arrived. Wish I could "float on over there to see him as well", I feel like I am floating right now, but I think once I got over the Atlantic, the real Bruce sharks would zero in on me! Have you decided what you are going to do with him once you get him? I know you must have some 'tricks" up your sleeves there IMR! LOL, Congrats on Bruce's arrival. ;D

Gotta wait for customs to decide if he is a dangerous threat or not ;) The first thing will be of course to find some helium :)

I will! But oh dear my tracking info shows nothing except that it is in Australia, so I have no idea which airport he landed at, if customs held him up or where he is :P

I am guessing I may not get him until early next week :(

Bruce has arrived :D

He cost $15 to fill :O Although the lady mentioned it would be cheaper in the long run to get a tank. The assembly was a bit fiddly, if you are the sort of impatient person who wants to go, go, go right out of the box then Air Swimmers are not meant for you :P I found it easiest to use the video guide on you tube rather than the manual and having an extra pair of hands would make the job light years easier :P

I do however have a small problem :P I have used ALL the putty and Bruce is still sitting on the ceiling :P So I am about to add some blue tack to the mix :P

Oh Boy, Bruce is here, Yipppeee, HOpe to see the video soon, glad you got him filled, boy that is a lot of helim, so how long does that much helim last or did she say, or is there a manual or anything that talks about things like that? Sounds like fun , bet you would have some anxious kids in a classroom you could bribe with Bruce...Wanting pics now and video IMR/.

Interestingly not one of my animals are bothered by Bruce, even AJ who is scared of normal balloons. I think they know me too well :P

Edit: Video is done, I'll try and do a better one later on.

Very cool! He's quite large, isn't he? Were the sounds on the video from Bruce, the controller or something else altogether.

Your pup seems completely unfazed for sure.
Title: Re: New species of fish found heading for Australian errr skies?
Post by: InmemoryofRomeo on September 21, 2011, 10:44:38 PM
The sounds are from the controller and Bruce's tail motor.

I nosed Bruce right into AJ and he didn't even move :P The cats moved but only far enough to sniff the fins :P

Just to put his size in perspective Bruce is as long from nose to tail as I am tall (Five foot).

Oh yessssssss!  I'm glad Bruce arrived to take your mind off waiting for things!  :D

You certainly seem to have got then hang of manoevring him - he's huuuuuge isn't he!  :o  :D

AJ didn't look fazed at all - in fact he was kind of "a flying shark, c'mon mum - how dim do you think I am!"  :P

I think that cat that scarpered in the advertising video must just have had a guilty conscience!  ;)

Lol! Just so long as the second part of that headline is not 'and snacks on students.'

Day two and Bruce is showing no signs of any helium loss yet, I will be taking careful note of how long he lasts. He floated happily around my room last night, he is epically cool looking ;D I think even when he isn't full of helium I might blow him up with air and have him hang from my ceiling...

Definitely can't wait to take him to school :)

I was wondering how you got him home after being filled.  I was picturing him tied to the back of your scooter floating home  :D :D  He seems so big I was even wondering how he fit into a car?

I'm glad he made it and he does seem very cool. ;D

If you do try this trick I believe a photo would be in order! ;D  I hope you find a school soon.  I guess they just don't know what a great asset of a teacher they are missing out on.  :hhug:  Keep your chin up and keep trying.  One of them will have to say yes. :hhug:

After four days Bruce is now floating with just the putty he came with, I've been able to remove the extra weight I added. Still flying no worries though, I think I will give it a few more days until I have to remove all the putty to keep him flying and then have him topped up :)

He seems to be holding up well  :D  I'm glad he's still floating.  It will be interesting to see how long it takes before you need to top him up.  Is he still fun?

I fly him around for few minutes here and there as a nice diversion from studying %)

My concern is with him being so big, how hard is it to maneuver around in small rooms.  Seems like you really need a big space to enjoy him.
Title: Re: New species of fish found heading for Australian errr skies?
Post by: InmemoryofRomeo on September 25, 2011, 03:28:22 PM
While space would be an added bonus he does pretty well in my tiny bedroom, he can turn on the spot if you flap the tail just right and now that I've improved my flying skills I can get him to zoom around my room at top speed and also around the house. Nowhere is safe lol.

When grown ups get bored lol. Poor Bruce's batteries were almost flat so he wasn't flying too well. Helium is still holding up however :)

Post by: InmemoryofRomeo on September 29, 2011, 07:06:54 PM
Lol that was a happy coincidence :) I'm not very rhythmic :P

I had Bruce topped up today, he was still flying fine but I have had to remove almost all the putty used to weigh him down. They didn't charge a thing to have him topped up. He is now back to using all the putty and even more Blue tack than before :O It is colder at the moment so the gas has contracted a bit :) The lady at the shop said I could keep him afloat indefinitely just by topping him up every week or so, so that is nice to know :)

I have him floating at about head height, its kind of eerie when he swings around slowly to look at you :P

Just an update on Bruce, 19 days in and he is still flying high. I am not going to have him topped up again as I want to see just how long he'll stay up, I had to add a bit of air today to keep him fully inflated which was as simple as inserting a straw and blowing :P

I've been eyeing this post for weeks and going, hmm. What sort of fish is this again? Today I finally decided to really look at it. I have to say it's not what I expected. Does he fly by remote control? How big is he?

He does fly via remote control, and he is five foot long nose to tail. So he is quite large :)
Title: Re: New species of fish found heading for Australian errr skies?
Post by: InmemoryofRomeo on October 19, 2011, 03:26:56 PM
Well a month on Bruce is still flying, but only just! He is hovering about a foot of the floor with no extra weight so I expect that by tomorrow he will be on the ground. I have to say I am impressed by the length of time he lasted. I've been adding air to keep him nice and full and he has held up very well. The balloon itself took more than its fair sure of bumps and knocks since we only have a small house but there is no sign of any holes.

The parts stuck on with stickers however... Well let's just say I bought a cheap balloon from the party store and I'm going to experiment with some glue. While they are still stuck on some of them are only -just- hanging on.

So for the overall rating I'll give it 8 stars out of 10. Two stars off because the sticking tape holding the fins on is not at all well designed or thought out.

Post by: Talon on October 20, 2011, 10:08:24 AM
That's amazing that you got him to last that long. I'm sure there's still a little more life in him. I had a baloon from a friend's baby shower that I really wanted to keep and... well let's just say it slowly ran out of steam over a period of about a week. It was one of those round plastic shiny baloons with "new baby" or something like that printed on it. I didn't know it came down in the night and I got one foot tangled in the ribbon and the other camedown on the baloon. 'pffffffffff' And that was that. Lol!

Post by: Talon on October 20, 2011, 12:18:53 PM
Actually I was more upset than scared. Lol! I think I scared everyone in the house when I fell over the ribbon and yelled because I popped my baloon. Boy that sounded childish. Please don't make fun of me it was a keepsake! *flushes in embarrassment* Luckily my friend had a second one and I cut off the ribbon. When it finally went flat, I put it in one of those document protector thinggies.
