Not a lot, I'm afraid.  :(

Though I'd like you to adopt me, please!  Your kids are very lucky to have such a thoughtful dad!  ;D  ;)

This is the coolest thing I've seen recently, though not sure quite how old it actually is:

Ah man! I was hoping to show the Figet Friends. Lol! I'm hoping to win my sister over so she'll buy one for my younger niece. She probably wouldn't like it long though as she's more into makeup and princessy stuff. I'm sad to say I haven't heard about Probo or anything else set for release in twenty eleven. I've been trying to find out too. Thanks for posting that Crewella.

The bear is cute, but that LittleDog bot is fabulous!  It really had the whole walking in all terrains sussed.  I would LOVE something like that!

Might have to save for a while, though!  ;)

The little dog does look cool.  Although it looks more like a frog to me. :D  It needs a doggy head and some ears and a tail. :)  It does seem very cleaver though.  I would love to have one. :)

I haven't found any robotic pets but I did find something interesting. I found a really awesome robot being developed by Honda- Asumo I believe it's called? I'd post a link from You Tube but I don't know how. It is four feet tall, it weighs one hundred nineteen pounds, it can go up and down stairs, stand on one foot and run up to four miles an hour. Honda hopes to use Asumo to assist the elderly or those with disabilities. Sorry for going so far off topic.

The video seemed to be saying that Samsung were developing the dog for the Home Security market?  Odd with wheels instead of back legs, but the head did look Cybie-ish.  :D

I know that he can do basic things and responds to touch and other things. No camera and microphones  and from the tech details there's no mention to edge detection >:(

This is soooo pleo inspired  :-* its like an inexpensive less advanced version of pleo. But i think that little inu has pleo tied on their level of cuteness
Title: Re: Any new robotic pets for 2011 ??
Post by: RedwoodsMama on October 12, 2011, 12:16:06 AM
I checked this out a couple of days ago, and he is cute, but more in a toy way for little ones I think than Pleo is more realistic. I think if walking this down the street or carrying him in your arms, people would know it was not real, where with Pleo, they do a double take.  ;D He is cute I admit, but I doubt if he can do much, esp when you are used to Pleo interactions, But the price is a lot easier on the pocketbook, at about $149.00. and yes as someone pointed out, made by the Old Pleo Company, Scenario.  What a co-incidence... ;)
Also the Li-Polymer battery is familiar looking but in the photos looks yellow,,,wonder if it would fit into a Ugobe Pleo, a Rb or only the Inu? I would bet it is made at the same factory that produces all the Li-polymer batteries, in Taiwan where I get my monthy or so cases of UCUBE batteries for older Pleos. Curious and curiouser..................................
Well, I would think the closer we get to the Holiday, at least by Thanksgiving, Little Inu will start popping up on the web and in stores. just watch for the little guy. I think he would have to be a "distant" cousin to Pleo, a less advanced Pleo but cute none the less. :) NOw if they would just expand and make another dinosaur species, a baby Stegosaurus, or a Baby Triceratops...Ok I know some of you want T-Rex. but let's face it, it would be more difficult to make a 'cute" T-rex, and try to make it not a fierce meat eating kiling machine...just won't happen. you need plant eaters as cute little Dinos, and the T-Rexs and such are another generation all their own. I can just see Bob and Sally trying to be friendly and co-operative with a angry hungry Baby T-Rex looking down at them, with drool in a corne of his lip, with clenched teeth and snarling growls and outstretched tiny hands reaching to wring little "Bob"s head, while Sally retreats and leaves poor Bob stranded with this "Baby with Angst " issues... %) :( :D  Try to explain that one, I think there are enough , D-Rexs, Roboraptor, etc out there for the Go Get them Meat Eating Community of Robotic Pets already.Little Inu is ok though, I think he and Pleo or Pleo Rb in one of those "Robot Matches" you see where the poor Pleo is matched or should I say, "un-matched" and ceremoniously sent to the slaughter like a lamb to the lion ) are a better bet to "nothing happening other than some cute little dino noises, honking, mooing , burping, laughing, etc. anything but out and out carnage like most people want to see on those sights...                Ok, did I confuse you now... :o ;D Point is, Little Inu  is cute, yes, and I may get one if the price was very cheap just as an experiment, but I love my Pleos, and I dont think Little Inu is anything that can come close to what Pleos can, but then he is not supposed to either.
I think he is the perfect answer ( from what I have seen which is very little at this point...) for all those parents who went out and bought Pleos thinking Pleo was cute and what their child would want and like and fouond out Pleo was too advanced , boring, can't make Pleo do what a child wants them to do etc, etc. Little Inu I think is the answer for Pleo want to be, the younger generation.                     RWM

Senario is just a DISTRiBUTER not the person making them, same people who DISTRIBUTED Pleo, it has nothing to do with the people who made Pleo.

Inu looks cute in the design images, but the actual model looks like it's in pain.  Hopefully it cheers up a bit when animated.

My current obsession is still the My Keepon, now taking pre-orders for November! :D

My dad's girlfriend bought these for her young nephews, if you have very young kids they are kind of cute. They are called Dino Trains and apparently say over 40 things as well as communicate with one another. They also move, the T-Rex stomps and the Pteranadon flaps, there's two others as well, a triceratops and I would guess a long necked dino of some sort.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCdpstwQ3ZY

They were only $10 each (on special, regular price $30).

That's neat! I like toys that interact with one another. They do look like they'd be great fun for little kids. Too bad the kids closest to me are nine and ten going on nineteen and twenty. Lol! They want big expensive stuff- cellphones and laptops.

yes, in the video in the link i saw one walk for a moment. The movements aren't fluid like pleos, but for that price Little Inu looks very interesting. The bad point for me is that they haven't camera and edge detection.

hopefully vids of little Inu walking will pop up on youtube very soon , did notice that it looks like they are going to release a few extra accessories to buy separate for Inu which seems cool and as Inu is starting from age 5 up looks like Inu will be made a bit more durable and stronger to handle play from young children .

Oh my gosh, wouldn't it be cool if pleo's could lay eggs or something?  Then you would have to wait until the egg "hatches" then lo and behold, a little pleo!  Like the big pleos, they would have randomized eyes/skin tones and interact with momma pleo.  %)
Then again, aren't pleo's themselves designed to be baby dinos?
Oh well, cool thought.  :D

Wowowowowowowow! I could pay for an entire semester of classes at the University of South Carolina Upstate with that. Does it do dishes too? Lol. I'm kidding. Unfortunately it looks like I won't be treating myself to an Aibo any time soon. The hard drive in my computer is going bad so I'll be adopting a pet laptop instead. Still this post is very interesting and I'll be keeping my ears open.

I've seen videos of that bear for awhile now, however it's still in the development and, as per one of the videos about it will only be released to nursing homes in Japan.  The price is supposed to be substantial as well.

He's adorable though, and reminds me a lot of the bear from the movie AI.  Now THAT'S the robot I want!

I bought one of these for my 6 year old nephew a few months ago. ;D  They are funny little things.  The one I got him does 4 different silly voices.  So no matter what you get it to say it is always going to be funny. :D

This is interesting. It takes me back to the eighties when repeteing animals first came out. I had a bear named max whose mouth moved and repeted about ten seconds of audio and then I had a parrot a few years later who sat on a purch and repeted about fifteen seconds of audio. It moved its beak and flapped its wings. Oh yeah! And then around nineteen ninety four, the Yack Back series came on the scene. They were little hand-held devices that repeted stuff too. There were three of them as I remember- the Yack Back, the Yack Back II, and the Yack Backwards. I had all three and they all drove my parents crazy. Lol! What was this mimic pet?

I just saw the little Inu in a video on youtube and instantly thought to check here to see if anybody had an opinion on the little guy and the similarities he has to Pleo. I think Inu is really cute and I agree that it seems to be a smaller, cheaper, more child-friendly version of Pleo.

Also, to touch on the subject of MUTSU, brought up earlier in this thread...

I have a blue Mutsu with rainbow fins and I LOVE him! He was quite expensive as they are extremely hard to find now (got him on ebay for around $120). I have the japanese version which has a smaller tank, shaped like a fish bowl (which is far cuter in my opinion). He responds to sound and light and the japanese version comes with a little remote you use to communicate with him. With it you can tell him to do all types of tricks and such ^.^ He sits in his little bowl on my desk and swims around and entertains me with his singing, dancing and cute sounds ^.^

I love robotic pets so I am constantly on the lookout for some new ones to adopt. My most simplistic but ultra adorable is my little Walkie Bits. They are little electronic turtles from japan that walk to the beat you input by tapping on their shell. They also race and play music ^.^ Anybody else like these?

I've never heard of the walkie bits *goes to YouTube them*

They are kind of engaging, they have several modes. I must confess I quite like them, simple as they are.

ROFL! Fortunately they have an off switch ;) But at a price of $40 I won't be buying one, too dear for what it does.

That's a relief, though it was possibly my fault for watching with the sounds turned full up!  ;)

I do know what you mean about them, I liked Mutsu too.  And Hexbugs.  :D

This isn't really a pet but thought it was worht a meantion. It's the irobot roomba. It's a robot Hoover that will Hoover your house while your out at work or something. I thought it was pretty cool myself.

I have a friend who has one of these. I should probably invest in the pet-friendly version seeing as my doggy likes to leave his fur everywhere. Anyway, a pet smoke alarm. Crewella that was funny! These little guys are a bit loud. I wouldn't want to be both blind and deaf. Lol!

Cute little things but boy were they loud.  I wonder if they are that loud in person.

I have a robot vacuum and I love it.  One of the best things I ever bought :)

The Walkie Bits actually aren't that loud in person (quiet actually if you ask me). I have a little green one with 3 shells you can decorate with little stickers or bows or this cute little cake you can glue to one of the shells XD Mine was around $15 off of ebay with free shipping :) I would love to have more Walkie Bits someday because they are so adorable X3
