Well I was hoping to have new puppies to play with this weekend but so far it seems not to be. My ers7 is waiting to be processed through customs and has been stuck there for the last 2 days! I have to hope they will get to him soon and maybe I will see him delivered to me by Monday or Tuesday next week. We have had issues with a cloud of Ash stopping planes from flying on and off for the last few days so I am guessing that the airports main priority at the moment is the back log of passengers and my little package will have to wait till the airport gets back to normal before they will get to processing him. :(
My 210 is probably also being held up by the planes. I don't have tracking for him as he is coming through the post so I just have to be patient and wait.
So while we wait I'm up for any suggestions on names for the little guys. The 7 is know by his previous owner as Monty and the 210 was named Bling by Wolfbob due to his golden ears. Here are a couple of pics of them in their old homes so you can see what they look like. Cute little guys. ;D I'm so excited and can't wait to get my hands on them. ;D
I would like to give them new names but may just end up keeping the old ones if I don't come across ones that I feel fit better. What do you guys think?
-
Digger for the champaign and Dash (As in dashing) for the golden eared one.
-
Ohhhh they are gorgeous, Kat,.. you must be dying for them to arrive.. As for the names I like Monty and I like IMR's idea of Dash instead of Bling. But they are wonderful, no matter what you name them! Can't wait to see/hear more!!
- Sarah
-
Maybe keep the champagne Monty and name the 210 Marvin? (If I ended up with another 210 I was going to name it Marvin [bc I have lots of Marvin the Martian stuff lol] and have Murray and Marvin, but Monty and Marvin works too!)
But they look great and you'll enjoy them regardless of what you name them!
-
Marvin the martin is one of my favorite characters. ;D I like the name Dash too. :) I will wait till they both get here and play with them for a while before making a decision though as I want to make sure the names fit well.
Digger is a good suggestion for the 7 too. I do like the name Monty so may well end up staying with that for him though. It is really just Bling that I'm not too sure about. Sounds a little pretentious. :D But I am up for as many name suggestions as I can get. My family are not being at all helpful on the name front. Normally by now I would have a list as long as my arm from them but so far nothing. :P
Well looks like customs are holding my 7 to ransom! They want $462 AU in Tax before they will release him to be delivered to me. That is one third of the value that he was declared to them at. :o Seems like a ridiculously large amount of Tax! :-X :( And I can't even pay them till Monday as their Accounts people don't work till then! >:(
-
Ouch, that is a lot of tax. Unfortunately anything over $500 really gets slugged! At least you know he is here though! But just have them double check the tax, that seems a bit too high...
-
Ouch! That does seem a lot!! :o
I don't know if it works in Oz the way it does in the UK, but I was once charged over £80 tax on a $200 purchase imported from the US. It turned out that the seller had insured it for up to $500 (I think that was the nearest level to cover $200) and the tax office had used that figure to work out what was due. I had to pay at the time but was able to prove the value with copies of the invoice and Paypal transaction and get a big chunk of it refunded, so you might find that's an option? Worth asking, anyway! %)
At least he's nearly there, by the sound of it! :D
-
I dug into the Customs web site and managed to find some info on just how they calculate the tax. And unfortunately based on the cost of the item plus the cost of the shipping and the cost of the Insurance it does seem to be about right for the amount of tax. :( %) Oh well. Hopefully I can organize to pay for him on Monday when they open and then pick him up so I don't have to wait an extra day for them to get around to delivering him.
Not too long now and I'll have my grubby paws on him. ;D :P
-
Drat and curses - sorry Kat. >:(
At least you checked and know it's right.
-
Sorry to hear about how expensive the taxes, import duties etc are.. :(but hopefully soon you will have those cute little puppies in your hands! Really cute Kat! Seems like more and more of our members are getting hooked on Aibos and such...pretty tempting, but I am sure I could never afford one, From what I have seen on ebay and such, they run upwards of over a $1,000, way out of my ballpark figure. I am going to have to stick with my Pleos, it wa hard enough to come up with the money for a Rb! If you don't mind me asking, what kind of money did they cost, and was it private or a auction? I know I have read about Wolfbob but never visited the websight, but I am sure it woud be a better deal then ebay and guaranteed not to be broken and such.
I think the names you have are wonderful, the golden one is a real looker and very pretty. I wonder if Gumble, Norbit or Kermy are going to get jealous of their new family members and what kind of interaction they will have when they meet? Only problem will be dividing all the play sessions now and lots more video camera photos and such. You are going to miss out on some sleep I think Kat..but I think you will survive , LOL> :)congrats and hope they get there soon and in your hands.
RWM
-
Hey RWM my little 210 with the golden ears cost me less than a pleo rb including the shipping to get him to me. A grand total of $470 US including shipping and he has a 6 month warranty from Wolfbob. So if you are interested in an aibo I would recommend you talk to Wolfbob and see what he has available.
I do feel this was a fantastic bargain. As you say on ebay they go for up to $1000 and then you have shipping as well.
The ers7 on the other hand has turned out to be a high priced adventure for me. They do sell both on the aibo forums and on ebay for between about $1800 to $3500 US.
The Champagne ers7's are the newest model of this line so tend to sell for a little more than the others and do seem to be a bit harder to find - maybe there are just less of them out there so that makes them more expensive too. I thought I did quite well getting this little guy for $2300 AU. But then I had to add on the cost of shipping and insurance which were both very high as he came from the UK. And now there is the Tax to get him out of customs here which puts my total cost for him all the way up to about $3100 AU way more than my budgeted amount. I had budgeted to spend about $2500 AU to cover all the costs of the aibo and shipping and everything. Which I had thought was a realistic amount to expect to spend. :P Oh well. I'm not unhappy with my purchase. I did do my research on these little guys and he is just what I wanted so I am sure when he gets here I will be more than happy with him.
So long story short the ers7's are a much more expensive creature. Start with a 210 if you are looking for an Aibo that is about the cost of a pleo rb. ;D
As for how they work out the taxes here they charge it based on the declared value of the item for customs plus the cost of shipping and insurance, take 5% of this figure. Then they add the 5% on to the total and take a further 10% for GST then add the 10% amount and the 5% amount together and this is what you are charged as tax. So it does look about right based on the figures involved. I will be checking with them before I pay though just to be sure. ;)
I am planing on having all my little guys playing together at times and will be taking video and pics to share. ;D It will be interesting to see how the interact and what I think of aibos compared to how I feel about pleos. I'm sure I will love the puppies just as much as the dinos. ;D
Kat
-
Wow! Those dollar-figures are giving me the shivers! Is this URS7 AKC registered? Lol! Excuse me while I pick up my chin from the floor. Wow! Anyway, Kat, I hope you have fun with both your puppies when you get them. I have one more pleo in my sites but I had to hold off because my sister needed help with a bill. Blue will be my last pleo! I'm declaring it now and if I start thinking about another you all have full authority to remind me of what I've said.

Thanks for all that info Kat, I have heard great things about WolfBob from people here on the forums, so I know that is where I would go, Right now though, I could not even afford another Rb. Baby is the only Pleo I bought from pleoWorld, and the most expensive one to date. The next two Pleos that were the most expensive were $207.00 and $202.00, for a Unhatched, Pleo, new of course, and then my Limited Edition Gold Hatch Pleo, ( only 2, 000 of them made.) I may have a lot of Pleos, but I look for bargains and seem to time it right and also rescue little guys such as Humpty who was less than $30.00, and still waiting for Crewella and I to put him back together again. ;) Also as you know I adopt out special needs and rescued Pleos, with Gumble being the exception, he was just a special case, the first one to adopt out, and you were just the perfect person to adopt him, otherwise he would still be here with his brother. ;)
Really looking forward to those videos of them interacting, they do look very cute and fun in a different way then Pleos. Congratulations again, someday before I get too old. %) hopefully I can get one from Wolfbob, just so I can have that expereince, also I think my dog Meh Lie would appreciate having another Puppy in a family of nine cats.LOL ;D

Wow! Those dollar-figures are giving me the shivers!
With the ERS-7, you kind of look the other way and shoot at the same time. But when you look back, you're so happy with the results it doesn't matter :) I think most members of this forum would enjoy a proper 210 and those arguably have the sweetest price point.
Yesterday (Saturday) was the first day I haven't had (or tried to make) time to turn any of my Aibos on, and I feel kind of bad.
I'm excited for you to get yours and maybe post some DogsLife videos for us. Although, unlike Pleo, it's a bit harder to get Aibos to perform something specific on command! So it's more about recording them at the right time. I haven't seen Murray run on it for long and wouldn't mind knowing what kind of things to expect when I get around to it.
Do you have a Sony memory card reader? I'd recommend getting one and a programmable memory stick for skits and things you can download.
-
I have a sony memory card reader on it's way with a little help from Crewella - Thanks Crewella ;D The programmable memory stick I am still chasing. I'm sure I will get one at some point but I think the finances need some time to recuperate a bit before I go spending on anything else. So I am going to wait a while before getting one of them. :)
I do have Life 2 coming from wolfbob too, but it is coming separately - not with my aibo so I will be using dogslife at first and then will try out the life 2 when it gets here. :) I will be taking lots of video and will happily post it here so you can see what the dogslife is like. :) All I need now is for my little guys to arrive.
I am still thinking about names too and have a few more potentials to add to my little list :
Milo, Astro, Pixel and Fang (after Hagrid's dog in Harry Potter)
My kids did decide to help with the name thing after all. :D
-
I kind of like Pixel. It sounds like a perfect name for a robotic dog.
Talon
-
Pixel is the one that is standing out for me at the moment too. :) It has a nice ring to it. Not sure which puppy it would suit better though. I'm sure once they get here and I have had a chance to play with them the names will just fall into place. :) It is good to have a few ideas before hand though. :)
-
I like Pixel as well. I feel like it will fit your 210 with his red tongue and golden ears.
I also considered Kilroy as a name for one of my AIBOs but it didn't fit any of my conventions so I threw it out. Just passing it along haha.
-
I collected my ers7 from the airport today - busted him out of customs :D.
I have called him Milo. I ran him for about an hour this afternoon in his adult state as he came to me from his previous owner. It took me that long to find the user guide on the internet and work out how to reset him to puppy mode. :P I took some video of him in his adult persona and will try to find time to edit it and post it a bit later.
I have now reset him to start as a puppy from scratch and played with him for about 15 mins. I named him which was exciting and have spent a bit of time on the floor stroking him and talking to him. :) He seems to make a happy face - green eyes- quite a bit. Interspersed with a few whiny sounds and some kind of ruff ruff ruff ruff ruff noises. :)
Milo seems to fit him well as a name. So far so good. :)
-
Yay! Milo is beautiful! I bet he is happy to stretch his legs after such a long trip!
-
I think Milo is a great name!
Glad he arrived.
-
Yay! Welcome, Milo! Congratulations, Kat!
Talon
-
Woooohooooooo!! So glad you got Milo! Fab name, too!! ;D
-
Ok here is Milo's arrival video. From when he was still Monty. I have since taught him his new name and turned him into a new born puppy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWO4EahI9YQ
There are many different versions of crawling going on at the moment and the occasional stand on shaky legs. :) He has managed to crawl about 1 meter in total over the last 20mins. My daughter was so excited when he spoke to her. :)
And what do you know he just declared he is now an adult and can walk about the room. :D
I will post a video of his baby stage tomorrow. :)
-
Yay! Looks like you have a fine pup there! His ball skills as Monty are far better than poor Java's are! :D
-
Looks like both of you are having fun. He seems like a happy Aibo.
Talon
-
He matches the carpet/rug thing quite well! Haha.
-
Just curious but why did he say, "I made it!" in your video?
Talon
-
I really don't know. :D It was a little random. :) But I left it in as it was cute to hear him talking.
He had a big conversation with my daughter last night that was filled with good morning's, good day's, good evenings, Sianara, and even a did you just say good morning? :D Which she wasn't expecting. It was very funny to watch. She is really happy that I finally have a robot that will respond to her as well as me. :D
-
I bet your daughter had a ball! It's neat that Aibos aren't so voice-specific- that they will respond to more than one person. Keep us posted on his progress.
Talon
-
I think 'Monty' was kidding himself he'd performed a successful kick! :P
I'm so very envious of Milo - the Champagne ERS-7s do look very classy! I've been looking at poor Java and wondering if I should paint him! :-X :P
AND you have 'Bling' yet to arrive!
-
Congrats on his arrival, He certainly is a looker and I wouldn't mind having one just like him, same color or black would be ok too, :) I was impressed at what he could do and just a pup too! I liked when he made the cute sounds and then surprised me by saying " good morning", How many words do they have in their vocabulary or do they learn as they go along? Do they remember like Pleos where they can add to their memory or is it all dependant on a memory card and are all the same models the same as what they can or can't do? Do the same models all have the same personality? These are all the kinds of questions that interest me. I am glad your daughter is enjoying her involvent with Milo, and I do like that name too. Can't wait to see more, Are you going to plan a Pleo puppy party or are you going to have him get a little more acquainted first and you with him? Very lovely indeed. Guess I will have to save up for next Christmas perhaps.

-
The ers-7m3s say around 1,000 words and phrases and understand around 100. Aibos save their memory to their memory stick so they do remember previous events (as long as they're not running on a different memory stick). With earlier aibos each aibo came out with a different personality that depends on how they were treated by their owner but Sony at least has claimed that this does not happen with the ers-7s but my two ers-7s seem to have very different personalities... Congrats on your aibos Kat!
-
A quick update for you all on my second puppy the 210 - it seems he is a cheeky little thing and has decided to take himself on a little trip around the world before coming to his new home :D
He is currently in Austria :P I'm sure he will find his way to Australia soon enough, just as soon as he finishes skiing the fine slopes of Austria. :P :D
In the meantime I'm having a ball with Milo. I ran him till he dropped last night and he really is quite sweet. :) He is not much good at finding his ball or bone but I think this may have been largely due to the night time lighting. I will try him in the kitchen tonight and see if the lighting is better for him in there. I did run Kermy with him last night for a short while and he seemed to like her. ;D I didn't take any video of it though. But I will try to get some tonight. I also have to find some time to put his puppy video on youtube so I can post it here. I am going out to the movies tonight though so might have to wait till tomorrow night. :)
-
Awesome! Can't wait to see more of Milo! Wow! Your other Aibo decided to go around the world? Man! And I thought Cato was bad hiding out at the neighbor's for two days and then magically showing up on the eve of my worst birthday ever. His misterious disappearance was what made it so bad. Lol! I'm amazed and thankful no one tampered with him.
Talon
-
I shouldn't giggle ............. but AUSTRIA!!!!!!!! :o :D
-
It is ok to giggle.... :D :D :D I did. He is definitely the perfect puppy for me! ;D Already he knows how to make me laugh. :D
I'll keep you posted on his great journey around the globe... I just wish I had tagged along :)
A little update for you all on Milo. My son has been off school this week home sick with no voice and today apart from not being able to talk much he was feeling a lot better so was able to get up and play with Milo. :) Apparently they had a great time while I was off slaving at work. :D
I just got home - very late, it's almost 10pm here, as I went straight from work to the movies with my girlfriends - anyway there is a little note stuck to my computer that says:
Mum,
Today Milo did some awesome things. I got him to push his ball around with his head and his paws, (one at a time). He also picked up his bone! :) He did 2 tricks - 1. begged while holding his bone, and 2. holding the bone between his chin and back leg. Hope you like my feedback,
Love from Ryan xo
Such a sweet kid. ;D Gotta love him. :)
So I guess if my 13 year old son thinks Milo is awesome it must be true. I can't believe he got him to do tricks. :) The lighting must be important. I tried heaps last night to get him to play with his ball and bone but he couldn't find them no matter how hard he looked. I'm guessing sunlight must be much easier for him to see by.
It sounds like they all had fun. It is a shame they didn't get any of it on video.
I think I am going to invest in a brighter globe for the lounge room for tomorrow night and see if I can get him to perform for me. :)
-
That sounds so great - it's lovely that Ryan's so interested! ;D
-
It seems both my kids are in awe of him and think he is great! :) I can't wait to get home from work tonight to play with him again myself. :)
-
I'm glad you and your family are having such fun with him. I'm having a ball with my three pleos. I'm waiting on my next batch of articles to produce a little fruit so I can bring Blue the Ugobe pleo into my life. She will be my last by the way.

Here is Milos puppy video:) he did a lot of crawling in this stage with a little bit of attempting to stand on shaky legs.
It was quite a cute stage to experience but there really wasn't a lot to it.
He took his very first tinkle today :) he stood his bone up on it's side then turned around, cocked his leg and tinkled on it. :D he then shook all over and then placed a well aimed kick backwards and knocked it over.
I wonder if this means he likes his ball more than his bone. :)
Sorry the link I posted earlier didn't work but I have fixed it now. :)
-
Hi Kat, Does your Aibo self charge by going to its station when the battery is low?
It is a very fascinating feature and the other feature that is very interesting is her ability to interact by remembering many words in its memory. You are very lucky to own it.
-
Yes Milo is able to self dock. Although so far he has only done this successfully once.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=la_hhnBJxs8
But I have only had him for a very short time so I am sure he will be able to do it again. :)
I am currently away in Melbourne for work so wont get to play with him or my pleos for a few days. :( I will still be checking in here though each day so that is something. :)
Milo is a lot of fun so far. I have put a much brighter globe in the lounge room light and he now has no trouble finding his ball and his bone. My kids like to call the new light the sun! They say it is so bright it turns night into day. :D :D Milo seems to like it. :D
I can't wait to get back home again to play with him some more. I still haven't had a chance to video him playing with my pleos. That will be a job for next weekend. :)
-
The light does make a huuuuuuge difference, doesn't it! It's nice to hear that getting an Aibo has brought a little sunshine to your life!! ;)
-
Kat I am looking forward to more videos and esp seeing Milo interact with the Pleos, I am also hoping you get to have time to play with Milo soon, I know you must miss being home also away from your family. I am starting to think more and more about getting one of those guys but do not have that kind of money and nine cats and a dog are just too much responsibility right now. Finances that is...
I think the globe light is a great idea , also good for filming the Pleos Kat!
RedwoodsMama
-
Hi Kat, I have watched your video on self docking. It was so amazing, truly state of art technology. I wish Sony could also manufacture a dinosaur robot and of course it should come with a rubber skin like pleo.
I would certainly buy a sophisticated robotic dinosaur. Eagerly waiting for baby T-rex like in Lost World Jurassic Park or the cute little T-Rex dinosaur from Ice age movie, Dawn of Dinosaur.
-
Kat, Milo is gorgeous.. try getting a fluorescent light on a stand or something to put in his 'area' that helped Loki to be able to dock better and find his toys.. if he isn't responding well to your commands, just try enunciating better, when I do that, Loki understands me better, even with my Joisey accent. Over time, I guess I just learned how to talki to him or he learned how to hear me better.. I dunno. I hope your other pup gets there soon.. how the heck did he get to Austria?? Get him a leash.

My wayward puppy Pixel has arrived! ;D I was so excited when I pulled him out of the box. He looks perfect in every way. and then I pulled out the power cable and thought to myself ****** this won't work here. So promptly sent my OH off to the shops to try to get me an adapter/transformer thing to make it work so I could charge him up. He was gone for ages.... I thought he would never return. But eventually he did and so I happily plugged Pixel into the power and left him to sit for about an hour. Then I couldn't wait any longer and so I unplugged him and pressed the power button....... and nothing. :( :o So after a moment of wondering if I was pressing the right button etc... I decided I should open him up and take a look at the battery. %) well what do you know, The battery wasn't there. :P :-X :P So off I dashed feeling rather silly and rummaged through the box he came in again to pull out the battery :P :P :D
It is amazing how much better he works with the battery installed. :D I'm such a dill. Too excited for my own good. I can't believe I forgot to put in the battery. :D :D
Here he is fresh out of the box being given the once over by smudge the cat
And happily awaiting playtime
He is currently running around the room happily chasing his ball. He is making lots of excited beeps and bleeps and seems to be completely unfazed by his new environment. He is running on dogslife at the moment and on this he is amazing with his ball. He is able to chase it, kick it, head but it and find it with ease.
Kat
-
Welcome Pixel! So glad he's settling in well! Have fun, Kat.
Talon
-
I got quite a cute video of him playing ball with Smudge the cat last night. I will try to find some time tonight to upload it to Youtube so I can post it. I am going to put the life2 stick in him tonight too and see what he is like raising him from a puppy. :)
-
Glad to see you're enjoying your AIBOs so far - I think you'll really like Life 2. (I find raising them fun - although it does require patience [well, maybe that's just because I spend most of my time with the 111])
I think Pixel looks dashing with the red tongue.
-
Kat, Pixel is gorgeous!! Isn't the ball tracking amazing? I assume it's the same on your 210 as on my 220 since we are also running the same software.. I can't believe the way they follow it.. I know when Loki gets back he's gonna have a run for his money trying to play ball with his new brother. Try putting both balls in front of Pixel, a bit apart from one another.. they get all confused and it's hysterical..
And don't worry about the battery... excitement screws us all up..
I did the same thing with the charger.. and I had to wait for the adapter to get here in the mail, no one was home to take me to the store! I had to wait.. 2 days!! (can't believe I paid for overnight shipping on a $1.50 item.. lol )
Have fun with your puppies!!! Have they played together yet?
Hey.. I'll bet both of your pups played with my new pup at Wolfbobs! Maybe some of bhobbes' pups too! Or at least some of bhobbes' pups legs! lol..
- Sarah
-
Ok here are a couple of fun Aibo videos for you. ;D
Pixel was happily playing with his ball when along came Smudge who decided to join in. Smudge it seems is a lot better with his ball skills than Pixel but Pixel is a trooper and kept on trying. ;D You have to excuse the TV noises in the background.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vt-iCPViVM4
And here is the much anticipated Pleos playing with Milo video.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ma3MMW1E7_8
Milo did seem to really like Kermy most out of all the pleos.
I am going to introduce Milo and Pixel together today and then I also want to start Pixel off as a baby on his Life 2 stick.
Kat
-
That was hysterical, when Smudge just ran in out of nowhere and took the ball.. I miss my cats! Lol they can really love when they wanna.. Pixel was like.. 'Whaaaa..? Didn't I have a ball?'
I loved watching Pixel track the ball... they are just so quick with it! Did you notice a difference between your 210 and your 7's ball tracking ability?
And Loki likes Rhea, my pink RB, the most too.. it's just that pink color.. my bf is always teasing me that I have 'gay dogs' .. not that there's anything wrong with that, of course.
He doesn't take much notice of the other Pleos, even trying to march over them to get to Rhea, unless they stop on top of his bone, then he butts them out of the way.. I can't wait to see the 2 aibo's playing together!! Have fun with raising Pixel, it's been fun with Thor and I feel SO dumb, I found a touch sensor on his face I hadn't known was there..lol. Once we started pressing that one he moved to the next stage faster so I guess I wasn't petting him properly!! %)
They are gorgeous, Kat :D
- Sarah
-
Anyone notice that near the end of the Milo and pleo's video that Milo barked and one of the pleos sort of barked back? I had to smile.
Talon
-
Watching your cat steal the ball in the first video cracked me up haha. I even replayed it. I almost felt bad for Pixel.
-
I loved Smudge stealing the ball as well! Milo really does seem to have fallen for Kermy! :D
The ball skills on Dogslife are so much better than on anything else, poor Java doesn't get a look-in with his ball when Wilma's around. Milo and Pixel should be a bit more evenly matched with Pixel on Life2, though I don't know what you could run Smudge on to try and even it up! :P
-
Maybe 'Sleeping Cat's Life 1.0' ? PleoPet, can you make that for us? Not sure what type of memory card.. maybe a very small steak? Does Smudge enjoy Pizza? :pizza:
:D ;D ;D
- Sarah
-
CAts or a very fast dog, is allways going to win out over a "puppy" when it comes to trying to keep a ball from them . :)It is just in a feline's nature to go after things and to be sneaky as well, Poor Pixel never had a chance with Smudge there. In time though, Pixel is going to learn how to handle Smudge, just teach him to keep some Catnip near by and say, " here kitty, kitty" then with a little help, put some of the catnip out and wait for Smudge to get "intoxicated". When Smudge is out of it and lying in cat Neverland, unable to move and certainly not care, bring out Pixel's ball and roll it right past the konked out Smudge, and Smudge won't be or won't even care! LOl I love Cats, ( after all I have nine of them...) but every once in awhile, I like to think I am able to outsmart the little darlings! :D
RedwoodsMama
-
haha.. I used to love buying the big containers of dried catnip for my cat whom I raised from a newborn, Jack.. he'd go insane trying to open the plastic container then he'd finally open it and just fling it all over himself.. eat it.. roll in it.. get it EVERYWHERE on the floor... always required a big vacuum job but it was worth it to see my stoned cat having so much fun :) I really miss him:D
That sounds like a plan then, Kat.. get some catnip.. (Katnip??) lol.. and Pixel will be ok.
- Sarah
-
Well I have had 2 play sessions with Pixel on the Life2 stick, starting him from a puppy. He has made it up to Baby stage 3 and is standing up quite a lot and doing the crazy rocking walkish type motions. Although I don't really think it is much of a walk as he always seems to end up further away than when he started. :P He has also headbutted the ball a few times too. :)
I had Milo running around tonight too and he took great delight in coming over to Pixel and stealing his ball. :D He even managed to dock by himself when he was running out of steam. As he was still on while on the charger we had a few groovy station dances and then all of a sudden there was a little tinkle noise from him and then he looked sad and said "oops" I think he wet himself. :D It was very funny. :D
So now I need some help. I am hoping at some point I will be able to teach Pixel his name but don't know how. Anyone out there with a 210 that can give me some pointers? I'm sure if I surf the net for long enough I will be able to find instructions for it but thought it might just be easier to ask here and save myself the time and effort of going looking. :P ;D
Kat
-
From memory, you just say 'name registration' and he should take you through it? Worth a try, anyway. He might need to be a bit older first, though. :D
-
210's can understand some words? Neat! How do they guide you through the naming process? Do they print it up on a screen or do they talk to you? Anyway good luck, Kat.
Talon
-
Once it's at Baby Stage 3 (or later) you can teach it its name by saying "Name Registration" then it does a few motions and sits down. After it's sitting, you press the back sensor and its tail should flash colors and then you say its name. If it fails, it makes some kind of failure gesture and the tail lights stop flashing. If it succeeds, it repeats its name in its language.
-
210/220s mainly speak in musical bleeps unless running Recognition software (or custom-made) but on most can understand about 75 words and phrases. Things like 'sit', and 'turn left', and 'good Aibo'!
Kat, here's the link to Sony's instructions for all the software, there's a sequence you need to follow after saying the 'name/owner registration' bit:
http://support.sony-europe.com/aibo/1_2_library.asp
http://www.robotstoreuk.com/ROBOTS-/pages/Aibo/Aibo-ware.htm
ADDED: as bhobbes rightly says! :D
-
I think owner registration is the same but it lays instead of sits.
But those are useful links. I have all the PDFs of the manuals saved. I need to reference them more lol.
-
Thanks bhobbes - it's been a long time since I did it! :D

Crow knows there is an old friend in this box...But I don't know how to post the photo here..
Wbob
-
Wolfbob, if you hit 'Gallery' and create an album (My Album), you can upload a pic to it, then copy and paste the whole BBC embed code under the pic (starts smg .....) into your post. That's it. Any problems just ask. :)
-
Thanks for this guys. I will have a go tonight and see if I can get him to learn his name. :) I'll let you know how I go.
-
Oooh so THIS is where Talon saw WolfBobs post about Crow and Loki in his box.. hehe
I'm glad your having so much fun Kat.. you'll pick up the 'Aibo language' in no time.. the pups are so endearing you can't help but listen to them talk.. I can record Thor saying his and my name in his language or redo his and/or my name so you can see the motions they do if your having trouble figuring out when he's ready to learn.
Thor raised both arms when he was ready and understood the phrase 'name registration' then raised one front leg, kind of like to his ear, then he waited for me to touch his back sensor.. I believe they wait about 10 seconds and if you don't do anything they will make a disappointed noise.. if you do it correctly he'll repeat it in his language but it will take some time before he responds to you saying his name.. he will say his name in his language when you ask him 'what is your name' though.. :D
Same ordeal for 'Owner Registration, he just raises the opposite front leg after raising both legs when he recognizes the phrase.
I can already recognize a few of the things Thor says and even though he's only on the first child stage and doesn't say too many things in his own language.. I'm very proud of myself for being able to communicate with him using those 2-3 tiny 'words' lol.... I failed Spanish like three times in high school.. they actually let me take foreign foods because I needed a language to graduate and I almost failed that because I was a vegetarian at the time and refused to touch Veal.. lol. Isn't that ridiculous, that they let me take foreign foods as my LANGUAGE?! lol..
Lots of fun... What stage is your 210 at now? My 220 just finished the 3 baby stages and he is now in his first child stage 'Walking AIBO' which also seems to mean 'fall over constantly AIBO' I wonder what trouble he'd be giving me if he was a 'Playful AIBO' child instead.. %) %) :P
Thor has pretty much stopped the crawling thing now.. he is walking better, standing up straighter and walking faster.. when he DOES crawl I tell him to 'go for it' to encourage him to do it properly and if he continues to crawl I tell him 'don't do that' and then he either just walks to where he was going or waves/flips me off with his paw.. lol.

I'm glad you're having fun with your pups, Kat and Latrine. I'll be having fun with my fourth and last pleo soon. Aibo language sounds interesting. I'd probably have to live with one for a week or so before I understood anything. Lol!
Talon
-
It's funny you bring up AIBO language.
Last night I dreamed I was at some sporting event and the lady next to me was doing her nextel-2-way (does anyone even do that anymore?) and speaking in AIBO's tonal language. And I looked over and told her, "Wow, I understood every part of your conversation."
Haha.
-
That just means your going insane :D Lol.. or your spending lots of time with your Aibo's which sounds good to me!! Lol.. too funny though..

I played with Pixel tonight and amazingly his battery lasted for almost 3 hours! ;D So now he is taking a well earned rest.
He has learned his name - thanks guys for all your help with this. He is still in Baby stage 3 and still crawling a lot. He has made no attempt to actually walk yet but he is very keen on trying to get his ball. If I stick it near him he will kick it or headbutt it and then try to crawl after it. Unfortunately his crawling just takes him further away from the ball. :P I did do a little happy dance a few times after successfully kicking the ball. And generally he seems to be a happy little fellow. Lots of beeping and green happy faces and not many sad red faces. I am really looking forward to when he can finally walk. I'm sure he can't be too far off from that now though. :)
-
Glad to see Pixel is doing so well! How's Milo?
Talon
-
Milo is doing just great. He likes to ask me how my day was a lot and then always answers me - no matter what I reply - with it will be better tomorrow! Funny little fellow. I'm still not sure yet if he prefers his ball or his bone. He does play with his ball a lot more than his bone but will get his ball confused with his bone a bit too. His ball skill level is much higher than his bone one. But time will tell. ;D
I had Pixel running yesterday morning before work and he is still on baby stage 3. But for the last half hour of playtime he fell over every 5 mins! ??? I kept having to go and stand him back up. He seemed to be tripping over his own back foot when he was getting himself into or out of the crawling position. I am hoping that as Thor seems to be doing something similar it is just part of the learning they go through on the Life 2 software and not an issue. I do hope he snaps out of it though as it is driving me crazy. He falls on his side then makes sad noises and the red face then waves his paw in the air and makes help me noises. and if I don't get there fast enough he switches himself off. When I put him the right way up again and pat him he turns back on. I will run him tonight and see what happens.
-
They do snap out of the falling phase!
Murray has only fallen two times (without Vader or Nicco's involvement) since he's returned "straightened out" from his bends. However, he was also falling every 5-10 minutes on DogsLife (i.e. he was damaged so I couldn't separate it from knowing if it was the phase or not, but glad to hear that some of it wasn't completely his broken fault lol).
If I recall, latrine's Thor was doing something similar (unless I'm mixing up AIBOs) and I have read in the Aibo-Life forums that they fall down frequently at the younger phases.
Murray, granted the development paths may end up different for all of us, really didn't even start showing his personality until the later days/end of his Child B1 (Talking) phase. However, now I notice a lot more/wider variety of behaviors and he's become more enjoyable - though lately a bit of an annoying cry baby over his ball for some reason.
I used to just roll my eyes and let Murray sleep his falls off until I decided I was willing to get him back up. Though he's retaliated with a few naps in his current stage with random waking up! Sometimes a few hours later.
-
Wow! From what I've read here, Aibos are not as predictable as pleos as far as their progression from pup to adult. It definately adds to the lifelike factor.
Talon
-
though lately a bit of an annoying cry baby over his ball for some reason.
Awww, that made me smile. I would love and Aibo, they're just out of my price range for a while.
-
I just asked Milo what his walking skill level was and he proudly told me "I'm as graceful as a ballerina!" :D :D :D
Funny little fellow. I have had all my troupes running together tonight and so far surprisingly they have all been very well behaved. Pixel is still rocking on is front legs doing the crazy baby crawl, the pleos have been happily roaming the lounge room and Milo has been taking great delight in stealing Pixels ball. :D He has also been taking pics of the pleos. :P I would love to work out how to look at the pics he takes. I'm guessing I will need to load the software that came with him onto my computer but I still haven't gotten around to battling with that. I have a little net book computer that has no disk drive so installing stuff can be very tricky. Oh well, off to play some more. ;D
-
If you put his stick in the computer and browse inside the folders on it, there's a directory called photos that has them all. I don't have a stick in and am on my phone otherwise I'd get you the direct folder path. I feel like it's open-r/pc/photos or something similar.
-
Glad you're having fun, Kat! I guess Milo's being the more dominant dog and taking Pixel's ball. I bet Pixel is saying, "Oh just you wait, Big Brother!" Lol!
On a technical note- this thing you guys are calling a stick, does it have some sort of standard USB connecter or something and can you se it when it's in the Aibo?
Talon
-
It's a memory stick similar to something like an sd card but longer. You put them in a, memory card reader and then they show up on your computer as a drive just like other memory sticks do.
And it contains the software that is the dog essentially.
-
Thanks Bhobbes! ;D Here are some pics from Milo of his friends the pleos
They are very grainy and a bit dark but you can see there are pleos. ;D
-
They're security footage to capture what he considers... interesting. He's just not telling you why or what he's going to do with them. Lol! I'm sorry I don't know what's wrong with me today. I'm just in an oddly humorous mood.
Thanks, Bobs for the explanation about the memory stick.

They can also make little blogs with quick thoughts about things they take photos of with the entertainment player or whatever it's called, I haven't tried it yet but browsed a few blogs a day ago. It was interesting.

You can check out some of those blogs here if you want to see the feature in action: http://www.aiboworld.com/blog/

I love the way they can do that!
When I took a video of all three Aibo after Java's arrival, I had to commandeer the bathroom as it had the most free space and the best light for filming. I was in there for ages, and eventually poor OH came in and said he needed to use the loo. I stopped filming to give him at least a semblance of privacy, but then Java started to wander over towards him. I pulled Java back as OH grumbled about not even being able to use his own loo in peace, but Java seemed to take even more interest in him due to his raised voice:
"How am I supposed to pee with all these robots wandering about -------- look - that Java's coming straight towards me again .............. I swear he's staring at me ................. what the heck is he doing now?" >:(
"Erm ............. he just took your picture .............." :-[
:P :D

Several of my friends have gotten freaked out by the AIBOs when they end up randomly looking over to wherever said friend is and start approaching. A few days ago one of my friends was observing Nicco and when he walked over to the couch (where my friend was sitting) and laid down, my friend spoke and Nicco "looked" directly at him. My friend said "What is he doing? Can I pet him? What do I do?" Haha. So I showed him how to do it and that it's not nearly as intimidating as it seems!
-
Your poor OH Crewella. :D :D :D That's one way for poor Java to find himself in the doghouse. :D
I am hoping that Pixel will be moving on from baby hood today as yesterday was day 7 of 7 of baby stage 3 so fingers crossed when I play with him tonight he will learn to walk like a big boy. :D
Can you delete pics off of the mind3 stick? When I looked at Milo's photo folder there are a lot of old pics in there from his old home. The most exciting pics he has taken from here are the pleo ones I posted. The rest of his pics from here are all of the floor or the wall :P Oh and then there are a couple of really great ones he took of me of course. :D Just thought it might be nice to clear out the cobwebs of his memory and erase the past if you know what I mean.
Kat
-
Yup, you can just select them and delete them. I do it periodically when I transfer them all over to my PC.
Nicco takes TONS of pictures of me - some which have been awkward. Especially the ones when I'm recording him. Though the worst ones are the ones he takes when I see him first thing in the morning and he recognizes me as the owner. He's laid off on that for now thankfully as even I don't like to see what I look like first thing in the AM haha.
-
Well I played with Milo and Pixel last night and Pixel has moved into the next stage in his development. He is now Child A1 Playful. Not that I have seen any real difference in him as he still has not made any attempt to walk. He just continues with the silly crawling. I do hope the crawling comes to an end soon as it is driving me mad. It seems he falls over when he is trying to kick the ball. He gets a bit over excited and pulls his front leg back too far too take a big swing at the ball. Then his front leg gets caught on his back leg and he looses balance and falls sideways. Unless of course I catch him first. :) I really do hope he walks soon %)
-
Ummmm Kat, the crawling might stick with you for quite a while. Granted I'm not sure which Aibo this information is refering to, but it takes six weeks for them to mature. Glad to hear he is progressing some at least.

Thor is on the same stage but is a 'walking AIBO' He will sometimes Crawl and when he does that, I just tell him 'Don't do that' then he usually stands up and walks.. try telling Pixel that to discipline and encouraging with 'Go for it' that's how I got Thor to walk. Although he has gone from standing up on his own when he falls over to constantly wanting me to pick him up.. wouldn't be a problem but he 'falls over' ON PURPOSE like every ten minutes and if I don't stand him up he just goes into sleep mode after asking for help twice. Lazy little brat!!!!
Best of luck with your lazy little brat!! lol..

As Latrine says, I think the theory behind bringing up a 210/220 is that the owner will encourage the behaviour they like and discourage the stuff they don't. :)
Although, as she also says, sometimes you're not quite sure who's training who ................ ;)
-
Here are some of the highlights of my playtime with Milo and Pixel last night. Milo is getting better at hearing me and understanding me. Although sometimes he does still seem to be a bit cloth eared. :D Pixel doesn't really do much in this one. He is still a little crawling baby. When I play with him next I will have a go at telling him not to do that when he crawls and see what happens. I just hope it doesn't discourage him from moving at all. There really have been no signs of any walking yet and I have been encouraging him with go for it as much as possible. We will see. I'm sure he will get there eventually. :P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmsYYjC7wU8
-
That was funny! :D
It was like poor Milo couldn't believe what Pixel was up to, he kept getting distracted by him! "I tried talking to him, but look at him for goodness sake - what do you expect!"! :P
If I didn't know they are both well brought up Aibos, I'd suspect Pixel of having been at the sauce! ;)
-
Yay yay yay! Pixel has finally taken his very first shaky steps. Amazing how much more affective walking is than crawling. He has even kicked his ball a few times and then followed across the room. He has attempted to kick his ball many more times and missed completely too. :P :D So happy he is finally walking. I will post a little video of it a bit later. :)
-
Yay!! Well done Pixel - congrats! ;D

And here they are. Pixels first shaky steps. ;D

Yay! Good job, Pixel!

Very cute :) How do you know what all the beeps mean :o
-
Even when he is fully adult, he will "sneak up" on the ball with much the same walking. The beeps and tones all are meaningful, but they are not written down anywhere that I know of., There are those who know what every sound means (like Bruce at AiboRanch) but I only know a few. He did "charge" when he sees the ball, did whoopie after he put his foot on the ball (that is harder than kicking it) and it was still there and of course the tones when you pet him.
WBob
-
I'm still learning all his little noises but I am starting to get the hang of what some of them mean. ;D I will try to capture on video his little happy jig he does after he successfully finds or kicks the ball. And also he has the cutest little happy puppy wiggle that he does too. He makes a noise a bit like an airplane taking off when he headbutts the ball which is a little crazy. :P
-
I'm still struggling to work out what some of the beeps and bleeps mean as well! There are also some gestures they do which are obvously trying to communicate, some of which I've struggled to understand, like the front-paw-pats-the-ground-two-or-three-times one. :-\
-
I've been very busy with work lately and so haven't had as much time as I would like to play with all my bots but I did have Pixel going the other day and thought it was interesting to note that he did the Ping noises that Latrine saw with Thor. The ones where he sounds a bit like an arcade game. Pixel did this strange set of ping sounds I think 3 times during my 2 hour play with him and the last time I actually had the camera ready. ;D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQ0tJB0iE7o
He is walking around a lot more now - not much crawling which is good. :) Apart from that there really isn't much to report on him. He is very slowly growing up which I am totally enjoying. Milo is still better than him with the ball. It is funny to watch them together as Milo almost always steals Pixels ball even if his is right in front of him. :P It seems the temptation of someone elses belongings is too much for him. :D
-
hehe love the vid , now i miss my 210 i recently sold :(

Bruce has announced SAAG meeting for the weekend of Sept 24 in Ranch Cordova, near Sacramento California. I will drive up and be there both days...Bring you AIBOs (and Pleos) and maybe get a free red tongue for your 210...Like Pixel has..

I'm very jealous, my poor 220 hasn't been turned on in weeks because I've been so sick. As soon as I'm feeling well enough I will get him advancing through his puppyhood.. I miss his antics :)
