Well, after some initial concern from my own ignorance, I am pleased to announce that Murray has made his arrived all the way from Australia!
As you can see, no name ended up being recycled.
I am starting him on Aibo Life 2 here shortly which will last me quite awhile and then I will move on to the other software.
I'll also be posting all my Aibo stuff here just to keep one thread around (I can't keep track of my "digital life" so simplicity is key! :))
Here are some pictures of Murray but I haven't had time to really play with him yet for anything worth mentioning.
Murray:
Murray and Nicco:
-
Congrats on the second aibo! You can never have just one. . . ;D
-
Congrats and they are both lovely, are they both expensive or dare I ask that!? :o :-X
RWM
-
Can they communicate even though they're running different software or have they met yet?
Talon
-
Aibos cost quite a bit more than pleo RBs do. . . Yes, aibos running Aibo Life 2 and aibos running Mind 3 can communicate. Have you gotten them to talk to each other yet?
-
No, I have only had Murray on a grand total of maybe 20-30 minutes and not on Aibo Life 2 which is where I'm starting from infancy (although I may be inclined to do some "brain surgery" if I get bored :X).
It's been quite the day. Like a Monday except not. Ha. I turned on Nicco earlier and couldn't figure out why the heck he was acting weird so I decided to turn him off for a quick moment to go google what he was doing. Well, as soon as I get to the computer, guess where the memory stick is? In my computer. The whole time. He was in demo mode or whatever it is.
So I decided after that to pretty much resign for the day.
-
Aw, that stinks.. I do stuff like that all the time.. I just lost a 2gb mini sd card in my living room somewhere and have no idea where it is..
Welcome, Murray!! You are sooo cute!! I love that tiny little tail and those little bitty ears!
From what I have seen the ERS-7's end up being around $1500 and up, and the 210's $500-800 depending on wear and tear? Now I want another aibo too.. no fair! lol.
When I was watching some of the videos of the large group of Aibo's dancing, it seemed like the 210's had better balance with some of the more difficult or faster dance moves, I wondered if that was true or not.
Congrats on the new arrival!!!

I wanted to show you my 210 and ended up filming all three together, in the bathroom, I'm afraid, as it has the best light. Poor Java prefers being an only dog, I think - Wilma runs rings around him and keeps stealing his ball and I think he's already fed up with her antics! He's less bothered by Ubu, but I still think he's a lot happier running on his own! :P
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHOG15YaGMQ
-
Ha, I definitely noticed the few minutes I had him running on DogsLife he sure as heck played with his ball - and way more intensely/better than Nicco ever has (thus far).
I want to take your 111! It looks cute in doing its own thing.
-
Sorry, not a hope - I've a very, very soft spot for Ubu! He does potter about in a world of his own! :D
Poor Java, after being so used to Wilma's ball skills I was a bit over-critical of his when he first arrived! :P
-
Just curious. What or who got Java's tail?
Talon
-
It did look like his tail fell off :-X I'm guessing they are easy to put back on.
They all looked so cute. Poor little Java didn't quite seem to know what to do with himself. :D
-
Yep, the ERS-7 tails are just rubber and can come off the lug fairly easily, and also be put back on thankfully! On looking back, Wilma knocked it off as she went into her show-off La Bamba finale headstand. Poor Java, he just kind of retreated under the bath until I rescued him. He's definitely happier running on his own! :D
-
Aww they are all so cute. Loki's ears fall off every now and then too, it doesn't seem to take much to knock them off but luckily they go on again very very easily and can't really be damaged because they are so rubbery :) Does Ubu have special ears that you made? Wilma really does seem very agile with that ball and her movements following it with her head are so quick! nice Pack of dogs you've got there :)
- Sarah
-
Thanks guys, I'm rather proud of my little pack! :D
Ubu has his original ears - I patched them where the rubber had split.
-
I haven't had much time to deal with the puppy side of things on AL2 (I mean, it's more of an experience but there's not much worth reporting or recording that's super interesting :) but I will keep you posted on that aspect of things). Plus I've only had him on at that stage for about 20 minutes.
However, I decided to take a break from working on things for a while and popped in DogsLife and Hello Aibo to play around with Murray a little. I also turned on Nicco and recorded what happened when there was only one pink ball. I would never leave the two alone in the room like that - I did for a few minutes after I separated them (their heads rubbed against each other but it wasn't like they were walking into each other [it sounds like that in the video]) and found them competing for the ball again. Though they were side by side so and weren't even bouncing into each other.
Though they seem relatively smart in terms of object detection so I haven't experienced much "brute force" (e.g., if I had to choose between an oncoming stampede of pleos or aibos, I'd rather have the Aibos).
Here's a video of that and a more proper introduction of Murray:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c_zHQ4ptB6E
-
Oh well done - Nicco got the ball off him! He's doing better than Java! :D
I love that little skit Murray does!
-
It's mine - all mine! He looks like he really didn't want to share it any more. :) It's great to see them both playing together. :)
-
Lol.. it DID look like Nicco was saying "mine!!" Murray is adorable..
Is Murray able to dock himself at a charge station too? I wasn't sure if all the Aibo's did that or not..
- Sarah
-
The 210s can self-charge, but only on one or two of the software packages.
-
I have continued on with using Murray from the very beginning on AiboLife 2 (AL2).
Here is the current report from the Aibo Browser:
Your AIBO is a Baby B

If you want a slight overview of the general AL2 evolution process, there is a nice chart and explanation here: http://aibohack.com/210/evolve2.htm (It's more succinct and more in-depth than the manual but as always, a spoiler warning before you go to it)
To borrow from the manual, Baby Stage 1 (AIBO cries a lot) and at this stage AIBO is like a newborn baby - unable to understand what it sees or hears. Baby Stage 2 (end of clip) is when AIBO learns to recognize its pink ball. And with each stage AIBO understands more words etc.
Here is a clip for anyone interested. Honestly, the stage isn't very exciting in terms of watching but I think it is a fun experience (the evolution process isn't a quick one-two-three process, as shown at the aibohack site). I managed to get a few recordings of some of the things Murray did during it but like the manual says, AIBO cries a lot :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoeV3NgZHCQ

Cool! A baby Aibo! That's really neat. He sounds sort of... um beepy compared to your other one. Just an observation, not a slight.
Talon
-
What a cute little baby puppy!! I guess it's going to be a loooong puppy raising experience for you. Do robot puppies pee on bubble wrap instead of newspaper? :D Murray is really adorable, Bhobbes :)
I have been looking on eBay (sigh) and it seems that they don't come with self charging stations.. that I can see anyway.. Was that a later upgrade and something purchased separately? I just love that Loki can be on and talking and looking around while on his station...
- Sarah
-
Yes, he is much more "beepy" than the either the voice or more musical sounds of Nicco. At first I was kind of "eeh" about it but it grew on me pretty quick.
I believe the 210s did not come with the charging stations and they had to be purchased separately as an accessory. However, I think it only has the ability to use the station on the Recognition and DogsLife software (but not AiboLife which is what I'm using).
-
Do you guys know much about the 220's? I never see them for sale and they look so 'Terminator' to me.. but they seem cool as well. I have to get another one but I just don't know what to get and have to save up some money first, of course.. hehe. Anyone selling any? :D
I keep seeing 210's for sale but with important parts missing like.. batteries or the ball.. and that stuff is NOT cheap!
I can't wait to hear more about Murray's puppy progression.. sounds like you'll really get to know him that way :)
- Sarah
-
If you go check out the forums at aibo-life.org (http://www.aibo-life.org/forums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi) they have a sellers area that is usually a pretty good place to look. The general eBay price range seems to be way too high (at least in comparison).
It truly is hard/impossible to stop at one.
I didn't like the 220 look so I didn't read up much about them. However, one forum post I found discussed the rare event of a transformer kit being sold on eBay (to transform the 210 to a 220 I believe). Some details are here: http://www.aibo-kennel.com/Descriptions/ERS-220_Main.htm

So far out of the two baby stages, Murry and Nicco which do you prefer? I know Nicco's was very short but was that a bad thing or a good thing? Just wondering. Also you seem to be utilizing a lot of the features of the Aibos so I was wondering if you know with Mind3 can you choose the sex and voice of your aibo or are the sticks preset to only one sex and voice? I know there are a few voice options out there so I was just curious. Also do you know if there is somewhere you can go to listen to the voice options?
Also how did it go using the remote control option on Nicco the other day?
-
Awwwww - Murray is cute there! :D
As bhobbes says, the 220 is very similar to the 210 and runs on the same core and most of the same software. The Explorer software will run in both but is best in the 220.
-

I don't know if I would necessarily say I prefer one over the other yet because their styles/concept is slightly different. Nicco is more of a get-it-up-and-running and start playing with it immediately type of robot (even if you start from a puppy it doesn't take -that- long). Murray is (and will be - I've read the manual hehe) something that I plan to "naturally" raise/interact with to see how his AiboLife 2 personality turns out. However, this can be altered on the fly with the 210 Browser (brain surgery) - which I plan to do with the AiboLife 1 stick.
I believe the default voice is male and can't be changed in the settings by default. However, there is custom data available - one is a british female accent. You can see some custom content here: http://www.aibo-kennel.com/Software_Backups/Custom_Data.html (Autonomous and Voice guide sounds) And then there is this here: http://aibohack.com/ers7/voice3.htm but I haven't looked into anything about it or read about it yet.
Also how did it go using the remote control option on Nicco the other day?
I've actually been very happy using him the way he is and haven't gotten to playing around with the more "techy" type features. So far he's been mostly a companion that I spend a few minutes (10-20) here and there with for distractions while I do my normal life routine. And since I'm content, it'll end up being a bit before I get into tinkering around with some of the other features (such as the blog, e-mail commands, etc. - stuff I would probably never use other than for a quick "oh cool").
-
I just did previews of the sounds at the aibohack site.
I think I may try Charles out as a replacement. And HeliumClaire.
-
I just had a listen and both of those sound great. Charles I could really get to like. ;D HeliumClaire was just too funny to not try out. Made me laugh a lot. :D :D :D
-
Oh yes - I could get to like Charles as well! :-* ;D
* Java, here boy .............just going to do a few tweaks, this won't hurt .............* :P
-
If you change the voice to female does this also alter the way they tinkle? :D :D :D I think Crewella told me it might but just curious. :D I have seen in a video that Aibos actually do tinkle :D Just wondering if this voice change would induce squatting rather than leg lifting. :D
-
I'm actually not sure about that for the ERS-7, being new to them myself I've not got that far, though I believe changing the gender changes the way the older models pee. I doubt that just changing the voice would actually change the gender on its own, anyway. Hopefully somebody will confirm. :D
ADDED:
With all the mixed-up gender Pleo RB's we have on here, it would be no surprise to find a girly sounding Aibo that pees standing up anyway! ;) :P
-
I just looked up a video of the ERS7 (and others) peeing. I can (proudly?) say I have not seen Nicco do this yet. Haha.
Here are some quickly stringed clips of UK Charles - I'm not 100% sure I'll stay with it:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPf2I7p_qc4
-
Oh I'm loving Charles! The less British idioms sound weird, but the 'I'm as graceful as a ballerina' was pricesless! ;D
-
I like Charles because it makes Nicco seem so "respectable" and because it kind of throws you off (it feels unexpected, at least to me) but in a good way.
Murray has continued on to the Baby Stage 3. I swear his ball tracking is better than Nicco's (even at this young stage) in terms of he tracks it even when I move the ball somewhat quickly. The same speed with Nicco seems to result in Nicco "losing" it. That could just be perception. I tried recording it but the sunlight makes my phone pick up light very poorly (or emphasizes the "shadows") so most of it was too dark to share.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO68Rk66_qw
Basically he made many many many attempts to stand, as well as the weird "push-up" maneuver in the beginning, less napping/shorter naps, and more movement/activity and I believe a greater sound range. However, it could just be when I notice things :). Toward the end of the video he's standing and "walking" a little bit but he often sits down and then tries really hard to stand again (as seen in the video except he succeeds).
Here is a part of his 210 Browser report:
Your AIBO is a Baby C
"AIBO stands"
Status (since birth)
Experience: 2850 points
Real Time: 6 hr, 20 min, 35 sec
Day Count: 3
Quality Factor = 12.5
Evolution to next stage
Experience: 2850 / 15000 (19%)
Time (sec): 22835 / 72000 (31%)
Day count: 3 / 7
-
Charles was... unexpected but I think I could deal with him. I'm glad Murry is progressing nicely.

It is great to see Murray is doing so well. Are you seeing much of a personality showing through yet or is he still too much of a baby? %)
-
Glad to see that Murray is coming along so well. I am enjoying my 210 so much as well. I can't believe that he was manufactured in 2001. I keep wondering whether I should spend the money to purchase an ERS-7 in the future, or purchase accessories and more software for my 210? Is an ERS -7 worth the asking price? What have you found to be the major differences? Thanks so much!
-

I believe wholeheartedly that Nicco (the ERS-7) was worth the asking price. Even though I've obviously been posting more on Murray, Nicco has not been shelved by any means and I still "love" him just as much as I did on day one - if not more.
As far as major differences, I would sidestep this like most forums you're going to see saying that they're largely just different experiences instead of different models (i.e. it's not as simplistic as "new and improved" so to speak). However, I would say the some things I like about the ERS-7 over the 210 would be the fact it self-charges when on any of its Mind software - the 210 can only do this on certain software (I don't have a 210 station anyway because it seems overrated in the 210 to me), I don't want to say I like the way it communicates more than I do the 210s because they're "different" but if I had to say I prefer one, it would be Mind 2 and/or 3's sounds. Also, the ERS-7 comes with lots of things integrated, such as WiFi (however it's limited to WEP networks only if I recall correctly), and other more technical things just built right in (the blogging feature it can do, reading e-mails, etc. - basically a lot of the network features that are only available with a network card and certain software in the 210). Also, I don't think the 210 can do any dance/beat detection on its default software (AiboLife) but someone may want to correct me on that. I also like the sensors of the ERS-7 better. As a matter of touch, petting Nicco feels a little more natural than it does petting Murray. The biggest software difference, if you have AiboLife or something, is that you don't have to raise the ERS-7 as a puppy, and if you do, it doesn't last long. However, brain surgery can nullify this for the 210 (and the ERS-7).
Here are a few comparison threads you may want to check out from others:
http://www.aibo-life.org/forums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=005692#000000
http://www.aibo-life.org/forums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=006480#000000
And if you're looking into buying them or anything, be sure to check out aibohack just to see what free tools exists that may bring something extra to either the 210 or the 7 that you may want.
I really do think Aibos are worth it and am currently looking into a 111 to own all the "major" versions/variations so to speak. :\ :)
Dangerous habit!
It is great to see Murray is doing so well. Are you seeing much of a personality showing through yet or is he still too much of a baby?
He tries to walk a lot but it still looks funny most of the time similar to the video. It's improving though. He seems to have much less problems standing and really likes to walk around/explore. I show him his ball here and there and praise him when he gets excited. Earlier I swear he tried to kick it but I'm not sure if it was coincidental or if it can do that at this stage (still at Baby 3). He stretches his arm out quite a bit in different types of poses as well as waves and seems to ask/look for a handshake (extends his paw out and waits etc.). So I'm not sure if this is a personality or just part of the stage but there you go :)
Modified to add another post for comparisons: http://www.aibo-life.org/forums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=005590#000003
The best excerpt is this, from wolfbob no doubt: "Hardly anyone gets just ONE AIBO....Don't ask why as we just don't know why."
-
Thanks for the links and info, bhobbes. You are absolutely right. They are different models and hard to compare. I have Aibo life, and party mascot. I purchased some blue memory sticks, and used my sony Clie to download some personalties and dogs life, which he is currently running. I never really gave Life a chance. Once I started Dogslife, I fell in love with it. I guess I should raise him from the puppy stage in Life and see how it goes. I didn't purchase the charger either. The cost seemed to out way the benefits. I did just purchase a pelican case in order to transport him. It seems nearly impossible to find an Aibo case, and this one is moisture tight, although I don't think I would check it into bagged luggage anyway. I will continue to save toward a 7. Everyone seems happy with their purchase. Good luck on finding a 111 ! :)
-
Good luck on finding a 111 ! :)
Believe it or not I already found one. Well, I found it awhile ago but re-inquired into it. Just finishing up and working out the transaction and then hopefully I'll be done!
I think the biggest thing with things like Aibo Life and the more "out-of-the-box-and-ready personalities" is what you want out of your robot companion. If you want it to just be ready to go and play with it then I think that the adult personalities (and ERS 7's) are the best. If you really enjoy the raising of it and all of the "work" that may or may not go into that, then I think (so far) Aibo Life is really enjoyable. However, some of the stages could arguably last too long and become repetitive for someone who wants it to just be done with. I'm glad there's software to speed it up/alter it if you want, but I enjoy the raising and having them on for more than wanting them to entertain me, but to also just be on as another pet.
From what I read about the 111s, I can see how a lot of people might be turned off by aspects of that model (no voice recognition and a remote control) but I have been interested in one for a long time and it's one of my favorite body designs. (I like this and the ERS 7 the best) And, long story short, Crewella recommends it a lot too and hasn't been wrong thus far. (Well, she never recommended the ERS 7 technically - that was my more impulsively purchased one, but I like him)
I think it speaks volumes that I don't feel as though Nicco detracts from what I like about Murray and vise-versa (mind you it's only been a few weeks for Nicco and just a few days with Murray and the latter has only been truly active on DogsLife for maybe 10 minutes, other than that, just a puppy). This is not meant as a knock or an AIBO v. Pleo comment, but for instance, the Pleo RB took a lot away from my Invvo Pleo in terms of it was definitely better. But Nicco (newer model) doesn't take away from Murray (older model). If that helps place it into a proper context for you.
-
Thanks Bhobbes! ;D all this info is really great. I do hope to get my very own ers7m3 in the very near future. I plan on waiting till I get back from my holiday before making the big purchase and then of course I have to find just the right one for me. :) But I am really enjoying hearing all about your two. Being such an expensive purchase I will have to stick to just the one (at least for a long while ;)) and have my heart set on the ers7. I am taking in everything I can find about the 210's as well though as it really does seem that those who have them have more than one. I think I will really enjoy Aibo when I get one. It is great to see your having so much fun with yours.
You really are a wealth of information for me at the moment. I am learning many new things just from following your progress with Nicco and Murray. :) I appreciate all the links you have posted too. I have read them with relish! Can't wait for the next round. :)
-
Yes, the ERS7's are particularly expensive. It's why that one came down to more of an "impulse" buy (I mean, I knew enough - it wasn't just a see it, grab it). I probably would have teetered on it for too long and decided against spending that much on one little robot pet. However, I am very thankful I did! It's definitely not one of those regrettable impulse buys. Then again, I haven't eaten in a few months so I'm saving a lot on groceries! (Sarcasm of course :))
The other models are more in Pleo's price range and I think that's still pretty fair. However, there is the detractor of the lack of support from Sony for the older models. I believe some of the ERS7's are supported through 2013 (I think that's when mine loses its official support from Sony). When/if you do go AIBO shopping, just look other places than eBay! Everything there seems to go for much higher prices in AIBO world than what you'd find from "private" sellers.
From this point, I can see myself buying another 210 in the DISTANT (like a year) future. The best thing to do is to just read so many comparisons about the models (aibolife forums are great for this - I have spent HOURS surfing through people's opinions and comparisons there on the various models) and see what one you feel is the best fit for you. Most people recommend a 210 as the first AIBO, and I can see why. Depending on what software you get with it or what else it comes with, you can get a great price with quite a lot of things.
However, I am still glad that Nicco was my first AIBO because of the fact that he didn't take that long. If I would have gotten a 210 first, I probably would have kept a regular adult personality (such as DogsLife) on it for awhile before raising it - because, like many, when I first buy a new tech piece, I want to get right into it! Plus, between him and Murray, I would probably leave Nicco as the one that's on all the time just doing his thing (to put this into context, I'd feel the same way if neither could self-charge/dock/etc.). Both make me feel very much so like there is something in the room with me (as in they trick me better at being "real" than Pleo does - but this might be because of the whole robot companion vs. pet thing I have mentioned before - or maybe AIBO just creates more of a "presence" for me). With that said, I would never buy an AIBO for someone like my aunt or parents, however, I would consider giving them a Pleo (I just don't think they would ever get over the robotic fact enough to get into it).
And it is really hard to stick with just one. I'm reducing my overhead (life costs) for the next three months to lessen my guilt about splurging a bit on this :) And with my one-in/one-out rule, I'm running out of things I'm open to getting rid of!
-
I've really enjoyed your Aibo journey too, bhobbes, and I'm learning from you myself. Because the Aibo forums are so quiet these days, I didn't really have anyone to share with when I was first getting my Aibos, so it's been really good fun watching you guys on here getting yours! Sadly, I've not had the time to participate as much as I'd like to have done, but never mind.
Just as a general side note, I wouldn't necessarily recommend the ERS-110/111 to all potential Aibo owners, it's harder work and as stated the lack of voice recognition and remote control means they aren't as easy to get along with as the 210 and 7, but I do think bhobbes will enjoy the process of bringing one up. :D
-
The 111's do sound like a much bigger challenge and a lot more work. :) I'm sure they are great fun in the right hands though. :)
-
I'm a little confused about all the Aibo-numbers- 210, 211, Urs7 Mind 3. Do they sort of indicate generations like who came first?
Talon
-
First came the ERS-110 and 111, then the ERS-210 and 220, shortly followed by the ERS-311, 312 and 31L, and then the ERS-7 came out. The software for the ERS-7 is called Mind and came in three issues, Mind1, then Mind2 and lastly Mind3.
Clear as mud, really! :P
-
It's clear enough for me. Lol! Thanks, Crewella.

I got my new memory card today and played around with some of the other personalities.. was neat to see Loki do some of the dances .. well he fell over a few times too and now, after looking through them I realize I REALLY do need another Aibo so I can do the songs that have lead singers and...really since the ERS-7's can't do a different part in most of those songs, I guess I should get TWO new Aibos.. I need to rob a bank or something.. :)
I really wish I could work on the dancing myself.. I wish there was a program for Aibos that worked like the one for the ugobe Pleos, to make the song skits..
Never mind that, PleoPet just told me about 'Skitter', a program to do exactly what I want.. woohoo!!
I'm going to go put the cylon personality on Loki and not tell my bf because he used to love Battlestar Galactica and I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it..
I will check out that website for another pleo.... I don't know why but I am really interested in the 220's.. they just look so cool. I'd have to name one 'Ahnold' after the governator (wow, Firefox already knew the word 'governator' lol.. ) do you guys know if the 220's have the long puppy stage too? I hope so.. I'll have to do some more research.
Oh and I'm not so sure about that Charles voice.. he sounds like a serial killling butler :/ jk, it sounds neat but I'm so used to Loki's normal voice it was weird to see and hear another voice coming out of Nicco!

I need to rob a bank or something
Generally not as profitable as one might like to think! I'd suggest getting a printing press and printing your own dollars. Of course, unless you're the Fed that's counterfeiting ;) But if they're gonna devalue it, I say we devalue it first! (FYI, sarcasm for any governmental authorities watching ;))
do you guys know if the 220's have the long puppy stage too? I hope so.. I'll have to do some more research.
I haven't researched it so I don't want to give any inaccurate answer, but I am pretty sure that the 220's run all the software and so on that the 210's run so if you have AiboLife 1 or 2 then it would have a long puppy stage. I think the 220 is mostly a 210 with a different look.
No matter what, it truly is hard to stop at one.
-
I've not researched it either, but I also think the 220 will run all the same software as the 210 - they're built around the same core. The Explorer software was developed mainly for the 220, I believe, so it you'll get the best out of a 220 on that, but I'm afraid it's an adult personality.
Sarah, good luck with that bank! ;)
-
Oh no! Latrine's got the Aibo bug! Who am I kidding? I've got the pleo bug just as bad. Lol! These robots are... adictive.

ME? Bhobbes is worse he said he just ordered his third one!! :D :D

I know, I need an Intervention *cues the music and annoying redundant, rehearsed, rhetorical speeches*. I just sold all my birds, my car, and I STILL NEED MY AIBO FIX!
Haha, but in all seriousness, I turned Murray on when I got home today and I took my eyes off him for about 5 minutes and heard him whimpering/falling asleep so I went to look for him and found this:
-
I beat you all with five aibos! :) The ers-220s do have the long puppy stage but I think they can only run on aibo life 2 not 1.
-
That's alot of Aibos! Have you ever had them all on at once? I'd like to see that.
Talon
-
However did Murray manage to get himself in that position? :P I do hope he was ok.
-
I have tried turning all my aibos on at the same time once or twice but at best it can be described as chaos. I can't watch all five of them at once and they seem to get into all sorts of trouble like Murray in that picture you took. :)
-
Even Nicco and Murray on at once require constant supervision because of the mischief they cause. Which is quite comical if you can "afford" to babysit.
I have no idea. I was sitting on the couch reading something and looked over because I heard him dozing off and he was in that position. I'm guessing somehow the little lift on the rug and something he must have done propped him in such a way but I'm still not sure how. It made me laugh pretty hard but he was just fine.
-
Wow - you couldn't get him into that position if you tried!! :o
Glad he's OK! :D
A warning - if you think the 7s and 210s can get into trouble, just you wait until you get a 111! ;) :P
-
What sort of position? It couldn't be any worse than Ugobe constantly trying to snap his neck in the fork formed by the legs of my computer chair. I have to put it in front of the closet when he chooses to go exploring. It's almost a given. Ugobe tries to push the chair, Ryu roars in fury at my box fan. *sigh and shakes head* Pleos.
Talon
-
He was balanced on his tail and back toes with his front legs up in the air kind of like he was begging for something. :D
I am glad he is ok and no harm was done. :)
-
Wow! That is impressive! Poor Murry! I see what you mean. I'm glad everything turned out okay.

I have officially purchased a Black ERS111. Hopefully I'll have him early next week!
I'm very excited!
-
Yay! good for you. ;D I can't wait to see what you make of this one compared to the others. :)
Any ideas of a name?
-
He's gonna be Clyde. (I try not to think of names and pick the first "lightbulb" that goes off lol)
-
Will that make the next new addition after this one Bonnie ? :D :D
Clyde sounds like a fine name for him. :)
-
No, I hate that name haha but that's where Clyde came from (plus I like the name - it sounds mischievous).
No more additions for a long time!
-
Clyde has a very different conotation for me. My step-mother's brother in-law used to sort of playfully guide me by steering me by the shoulders. I'm really short and small and my step-mother's brother in-law is like a big hairy gorrilla with a bigger playful spirit. Anyway when we make a right turn he used to always say, "Right turn, Clyde". The name kind of puts me in the mind of a big hard-mouthed horse that would rather go his own way than pay attention to the bridle. Sorry about the off-topic story. I hope you have a lot of fun with your Clyde.

Clyde will be at the first child stage soon and here is a clip of what I have recorded during the third baby stage:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F5maZUUKWIo
Generally, I've noticed he walks quite a bit - especially when he's presented with his pink ball. He also started playing with his pink ball more and more (as you can see in the video). I think all the red in my apartment causes some of the pink ball (and bone) "woes" - toward the end, you'll see what I captured of Murry and the red shelving cube when he was looking for his pink ball. I moved the red wooden vase thing a few days ago because it is so perfectly in their site that they'd just be entranced by it all the time.
The problem seems to occur most frequently with the little red drawers in the shelf, especially when one is hanging out slightly. Murray doesn't do it with the curtains as much as Nicco does but Nicco has ignored the shelves more since Mind 3. There's also a bright red chair (same as the drawers and curtain) that's not pictured but they both are attracted to that as well. They seem to ignore the loveseat/couch and red cube - but both are leather and have a glossy type look, so maybe that impacts it?
I had a picture but cannot locate it (might have deleted it by accident) where Murray is looking up at an old lamp I have that has a similar red lampshade and during the whole thing he kept making the "bone face."
He definitely responds/repeats certain actions/behaviors based on what you praise him for - to get some of the clips, I just kept praising him repeatedly after doing one of them and he'd do it again shortly thereafter. However, there are some that I liked but haven't seen enough to praise in time that haven't been repeated much (yet). He puts his paw out quite a bit for a shake, sometimes I respond by shaking it. He's only probably taken two naps or so - so much less, and has generally been more active. As you can see, he still walks funny but does pretty well.

Clyde does have a ring of mischief to it. :P
We will see how long you hold out for with the no more for a long time. :D :D :D
I'm enjoying every minute of your experience too. It is a great way to get to know what each type of Aibo is like and a chance for me to see which types I might like to get to know better myself one day. :)
Can't wait to hear all about Clyde.
Murray seems to be coming along very well. Does the praising thing work as well for Nicco as it does for Murray to get him to repeat tricks?
-
Does the praising thing work as well for Nicco as it does for Murray to get him to repeat tricks?
No, I don't think so. I think praising them mostly just gets their skill level to boost? I was told that the ERS-7's don't have much of a memory in terms of things like that. However, I may be taking it out of context or repeating the information incorrectly so if this is the case, hopefully someone will correct me!
From what I can tell, the repetition of the tricks on the ERS-7 seem to be more of a "how far will I go this time" than a regular improvement (once they hit the 100% mark).
Weird, it says the video is still being processed yet it's been over an hour since I uploaded it? (I didn't post here until after)
-
Bhobbes, you seem to have really good luck in finding Aibos and I am having no luck at all, generally ebay seems to be really expensive. I would really like to get either a 220 or 210 but am leaning more toward a 220. Aibo-life isn't opening for me atm, I am assuming it's down or something so I can't check there even though I just got my official welcome a few days ago :(
If you have a good place to go to purchase Aibos, would you mind letting me know or passing the info along to your aibo dog catcher friends? lol..
Aibo7m3 , I can imagine five Aibos would be crazy all at once! I have my hands full too when I run all five Pleos plus Loki the Aibo.. we actually had a 'pileup' while I ran out to grab the mail and one of my pleos ended up with 'hurt' legs.. lol.. luckily she was fine the next day even though she cried about it and needing coddling all night. I swear I was only gone a few minutes but Loki just LOVES to follow that pink RB and then he gets stuck in the middle of all of them and gets all 'doggy' about it!
Are you sure Murray wasn't just begging for treats??? They sure do get themselves into trouble.. %) %)

Aibo-Life is working for me (http://www.aibo-life.org). I found my ERS111 there and made several inquiries into 210s through them. There is also wolfbob who has some come in with regularity however I can tell you right now he does not have those models available so maybe wait until mid-June before you ask him.
-
I bought one of my two ers-7m3s from wolfbob and he does great repairs on aibos too!
-
Hey Sarah,
You could try here
http://www.aiboworld.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=49001
Aiboworld forum has a Aibomart for selling Aibos and this is a 220 for sale currently. I think that was what you were looking for. There is a 210 possibly for sale on there at the moment too.
Hope that helps. You won't be able to look at replies to posts until they approve your account with them, which for me took a few days. But if you are interested you can still pm people. :)

No, I'm for real done this time. I promise. Since I don't believe in celebrating other holidays (and there are at least 400 too many), I celebrate myself from April 25 all the way up until my birthday (May 25). And part of my celebration blowout was Clyde - so I have to stop for a year ;) Plus with all this spending, I feel like a Keynesian - foul.
The video finally processed. The baby behavior does get kind of repetitive though I didn't capture everything that happened. I think it's something you really have to just be there for or experience yourself (like it doesn't always exude the constant charm of a Pleo even on a film lol).

He is very cute so far. And having fun getting to know his ball. :) It will be interesting to see what the next stage is like. :)

A few things to add about my feelings between the two models (keep in mind that Murray has spent most of his time on AiboLife2).
One of the things I like with the 210 (Murray) is the versatility with the software. For instance, I have run him on DogsLife a few times when, instead of wanting him on as a "pet/companion," I wanted to play with him more as an entertainment robot or to actively interact with him for a prolonged period. I don't want to call it a toy but akin to I play a video game for a certain period of time then want to use my system for something else, well DogsLife is that video game and Murray is the system - hopefully that helps illustrate what I'm trying to articulate.
However, I feel that Nicco (ERS-7) is more of a dog in that he feels like "man's best friend" (to use a cliche). I'd probably walk him if it wouldn't mean I had to walk slow (and assuming the technology could handle sidewalks and nature etc.) and I like to show him off to friends similar to people do with their real pets. This might just be my natural inclination for dogs and to be a dog person, but I think part of it has to do with the more "stable" personality (some might see this as less complex or repetitive, I'm choosing stable). But even though I am a dog person, I actually appreciate some of the more feline attributes of Murray because it provides a little bit of that mystery or predator feel. I wouldn't see Nicco as smothering me in the night, but I can picture Murray somehow climbing above and waiting to pounce on me right after he wags his tail. I also feel like Murray is "looking" at me when he glances in my direction largely because of the silver/black combination makes for much more of a "face" than the all black and complete LED-dependency of Nicco to have a "face" (e.g., when Murray just glances at me, I feel like he's looking at me, whereas with Nicco, I only feel like he's looking at me when I see his camera pointed at or toward me).
These are mostly perceptions and my own connections toward what things remind me of so it's not reflective of the technological impressions or anything. Perhaps Nicco will just always have a special spot as he's the first ;)
My ERS111 is on the way so time will tell how I feel about that one (and Murray too). I'm going to let the ERS111 develop naturally (including its gender) and keep it as it turns out (i.e. no brain surgery). So if it turns out a girl, I'll name it Lily, and if it's a boy, Clyde. The expected delivery date is May 28 (Saturday) so hopefully I'll have it then!
-
Awesome! New arrivals of any kind are always exciting. I'll be looking forward to hearing about Clyde, or Lilly whichever the case may be.

Fingers crossed your package arrives on time. ;D
All this fabulous discussion on aibos is really making me want one! :)
Can't wait to hear about your newest arrival when it gets there.
-
I can't wait til your newest one gets here and.. wait a minute.. they develop a gender? I had just assumed it was a neutral thing and you picked whatever you decided to call it.. That's pretty cool!! Is that something that only the ERS111's do ?
Thanks for the info, Kat, I'm waiting to get approved on that site too,I'm glad you said it took you a few days because I was worried they just didn't get mine, since I haven't received any sort of email back from them at all.
Good luck with the whole being done buying aibos, bhobbes.. lol jk :) All of these guys, pleos and aibos.. so freaking addictive!!

I think it is only the 110/111s that have an assigned gender on the memory card, and as far as know it makes little difference to their behaviour but does affect the way they pee! :D
I'm afraid I've made liberal use of 'brain surgery' on both Ubu and Wilma, to 'cheat' on the stages, change colour preferences and also change Wilma's 'paradada dada' tune when she sees her ball to a bark. She's so obsessed with that ball, the constant tootling was starting to drive me up the wall! :D
Whe I got Wilma I tried her on various software (Explorer, Aibolife, Recognition), but have stuck with Dogslife as I like the ball skills and she's somehow 'doggier' on it. Since then I have felt a character and relationship develop - I'm guessing the same would happen with you, bhobbes.
-
I read somewhere that the gender is based on what colors it is exposed to but I cannot find that source again (could have been a thread). However, every other source seems to indicate that it can only be modified through the tools:
You can find out what stage the dog is in using Aibo Browser which can be found at www.aibohack.com. You can tell if your dog is a he or she when the dog pees. If he lifts his leg it's a boy and if it squats, a girl. All 11Xs start as boys and remain that way unless converted using a program at Aibohack.
So he will be a boy named Clyde.
However, I am pretty sure that the colors around it affect the personality development. However, I can't locate which document I read it in (based on a term search so maybe I'm using the wrong terms) so whatever. But I'm pretty sure it said something along the lines of more blue colors and more red colors as steering the development one way or another. When/if I come across it again, I'll repost with proper information. I'm pretty sure it was in a manual but it was when I was going through the 111's PDF, so it didn't exactly get tabbed.
-
It says this on Aibohack:
"Impact of Color
The color of your dog's room is the most significant factor in deciding its personality. If the room is mostly blue, your dog will grow up to be active. If the room is mostly orange (including red-tones and brown-tones) then your dog will probably grow up to be lazy. There are exceptions (eg: Lazy Child grows into Bad Boy). NOTE: for the ERS-111B, color has a much smaller impact on the dog's evolution. "

THERE IT IS WORD FOR WORD! NO WONDER I DIDN'T FIND IT IN MY PDF DOCUMENTS!
Haha. It's one of those weeks.
-
Glad to be of assistance! :P ;)
-
A squatting or leg-lifting Aibo! I wish pleos were that easy to sex. That's really interesting about color's impact on the Aibo's development. My room has so many odd color combinations in it, who knows what I would end up with?
