Title: My boy, my boy, my pride and joy :)
Post by: InmemoryofRomeo on May 14, 2011, 06:38:29 PM
Thought I'd share a video of my gorgeous boy letting off a bit of steam after being kept quiet for ten days due to some minor surgery, teddy bear lovers may want to look away now :-X

He looks so happy and vibrant.  It seems the little surgery did him no harm at all. :)

There's nothing like a dog releasing pent up energy. Charley my PBGV had to go to the vet recently and he was very relieved to see home again. He was practically pulling me up the steps. Oh. Aham. And did I mention he christened the office welcome mat on his way out? So embarrassing. I "didn't see it". Really, I didn't. *grins slyly*

Hehe AJ got sent home early for 'singing' :-[ Poor dog had to have that necessary operation that all dogs should have, he has been lapping up the attention though, getting to stay inside all day, allowed on the bed :-X It's a dogs life :P

He is just gorgeous and he's soooo happy!!!  I'm glad the surgery went well and that he was finally allowed to go play.. I was so worried when my pup had to go through it but he came through just as well. He goes through stuffed animals just as fast, too!!    AJ looks like a real character.. what would we do without our dogs..  %)

AJ looks no worse for the wear, and dogs ( and cats of course,  :D) seem to be such fast healers. I think the music fits his enthusiasm and energy level perfectly, My girl, Meh-lei would go ga ga over AJ, He is the right energy level for her, ( a lab mix, 60 pds of boundless energy, except she lives with so many cats she thinks she is one of them.. :o) AJ really is a beautiful baby boy, and Great Job and getting him that Needed operation. So many people think esp boys do not need that procedure, " it is only for the girls, " cause boys can't have the babies. Glad you aren't one of those people who have that thinking. Glad he can get out and about and run off that energy he has. How long do his toys last? My girl goes through Stuffed animals like they are made out of cotton candy. Hard to find one she can't destroy in less than a day...

Lol thanks peeps, I love him to bits :-* Poor baby was a rescue dog, can you believe someone didn't want him :o

RWM he's actually had those ones for a while, I peruse the second hand stores for toys and look for the ones that are very firm, they take longer to shred than the soft ones.

Incidentally he is also very fond of toilet paper rolls, many times I have come home to a house full of shredded paper :P It may be because a popular brand of toilet paper here has a picture of him on it ;)

Hehe there's a little story to add here... I didn't actually want him either :-X

My partner at the time came home one day and asked if I wanted a dog. Now as mad keen as I am on all things furry, as a uni student, with a part time job and a tight budget I just hadn't entertained the thought of having a pet that needed as much attention as a dog. So I said no. Anyway a week later I'm out delivering pamphlets and I get a phone call ”The dog's here come and see him." So I head home quite prepared to tear a strip of my partner for getting a dog when he knew we wouldn't have time to give him the exercise he needed or enough money to provide him with plenty of good food. (The cheap stuff was never good enough for my animals.)

Then I saw his face (the dog not my partner) and it was love at first sight. Those sad brown eyes, his neck bearing the still healing wounds of a too tight collar and a life of neglect. He couldn't bear to be hugged, it terrified him and even a pat made him nervous. He was the saddest dog I had ever seen. For two weeks I tried everything to get him to trust me, then on a whim one day walking home from the shops I spied a small Teddy bear in an op shop window and I bought it and took it home.

You should have seen his face light up, and it was the first time he wagged his tail at me. We spent the whole afternoon throwing that bear around and at the end of it AJ came up to me and gave me a kiss and he let me give him a hug :-*

There's a photo on my bedside table of his first smile :) I still have his first Teddy too, a little worse for wear but safely tucked away in my box of special things.

That's so sweet.  I am glad you found each other.  It seems he really did end up in the right place.  Poor little guy.   :)  He is so cute I don't know how anyone could not love him.

Awe! What a cute story! Charley was... well a rescued rescue-dog. Originally he belonged to a friend's mother who actually did the rescuing. She had to give him up because she moved to an apartment and gave him to her son. We're not done yet. A few months later, son and girl friend split up and son doesn't want to care for the dog so he passes him to my sister and her family. I move in two weeks later and my first night there, he's in my bed. Well, he never left and he was only halfway house-broken so I finished his training. Now he thinks he's mine.

Yes, you definitely got something really special out of the relationship.. I can't imagine anyone not wanting him!
How old was he when you got him?  So many people seem to go nuts for that 'puppy stage' and then they get a little bit older and boom, they don't want to deal with it anymore..
Now I love puppy breath just as much as anyone else but I also love those good morning kisses from my big grown up boy (he THINKS he's big) and even the exceptionally smelly kisses from our older dog :)
They just love you no matter what, and cats too... even if they are a bit moody  :D

That is a lovely story, and I completly understand the "outlasting the sig other " thing. I had a beautiful German Shepard that was a rescue from a animal shelter when I was about 16-17 years old, She was supposed to be a "family" dog for the family I as living in at the time,( I was on my own so to say from the time I was 14, going to stay wherever I could, and ended up staying with a friends' family for about a year or almost till I was about 17. Anyway, this do must have been trraumatized or mistreated in some way and was very scared. We lived in a two story house and all night long that dog went up and down the stairs whimpering and running back and forth to my bedroom, this happend for a good hour or so till I couldn't stand to see the poor dog so upset anymore, The dog was not a puppy but still fairly young, not more than three If my memory serves me correctly. %)
I kept calling her back and she kept going down those stairs and everyone else just kept sleeping, Finally I couldn't stand it anymore and grabbed my pillow and a couple of blankets and laid down on the hardwood floors and called her. She came to me and curled up next to me and slept with me on the floor all night long. After that bit of trust I gave her, she declared me as her "owner'; and even though she was a "family" dog, I am the one she clung to, She was allso very protective of me and being a purebred shepard, had great protection instincts and was not a small dog.
At the time I was dating a real "jerk" looking back after all these years, my first real boyfriend and I was not as good a judge of character as she was. For some reason she never liked Him and for good reason I soon found out. I got a summer job with the local YMCA as a youth camp counsler for a group- of 6-8 10-12 year old girls and it meant leaving home for about three weeks or so while working at camp. I was so excited to come home and see my dog, but when I got home, I had terrible news.  :( It seems somehow, that beautiful German Shepard Dog got off her chain in the front yard and was just "gone" The one who seemed to know all about it was my soon to be " ex -boyfriend who my dog never liked .( for good reason... >:() She didn't like him and he didn't like her and was jealous. NOw that she was "gone and out of my life", he thought I would have more time for him........WRONG. It was obvious to me what had happend to my dog, he let her go and only God knows what happened to her..Animals are such a good judge of people, I only wish I would have known sooner and I would have never had gone to camp leaving her behind in a family that could not have known what was going to happen to her. I love all animals, cats as well as dogs, and I have had rabbits, rats and turtles as well and of course fish, including a gold fish born in 1997 that is still doing well, I would take any of them anyday over a human in most all circumstances. Animals are pure soul and do not turn on you the way humans can do. I really admire people who will give creatues a chance that haeve not had the chance the first time around.   I am glad your dog is doing so well now IMR, he realy is a sweetie, you can tell just by looking at him. :)   RWM

AJ is adorable I love how happy he is!  :)

Redwoods, do you think that your german Shepard was afraid of the dark? I once had a dog who was. When we first got her she would not go to the backyard unless we either turned on the outside light, or we were beside her with a flashlight.  We ended up leaving Christmas lights up all year round :P

"The average dog is a nicer person than the average person."  :D
