Title: Furbies
Post by: PLEOGALINBC on March 03, 2009, 07:03:37 PM
Does anyone have any furbies? I have two. A baby and a special adult. The adult's theme is Halloween. Did Caleb Chung invent furbies? I think he did.

I have two furbies and a friend was over helping me with some sewing and I  had to move the two off my sewing table. I tried to be careful not to wake them up but they did anyhow. They were very talkative today.
Caleb Chung did invent them. They are pretty cute. They sure get people laughing.

The good thing about them is they don't cost to much, are cute and colorful, you can play games with them, and the interact with eachother.  :)

I have three new generation and two new generation baby Furbies.
The three regulars are Fiona, Rascal, and Emily.
The babies are Lily and Anne.

You can see them on google if you type in new furby. They're kind of boring because you can only ask them stuff like "are you hungry" and  "can I hear a joke" type questions.

My question is, if they can get speech recognition in a furby, why not a pleo?

Furbies are so weird to me!! I r emember one christmas, we were real broke. We were kids. Mom came to us one day and said we could only choose one thing for xmas that year. My brother chose a Furby. And I of course chose a talking Pikachu (pokemon). I just found that Pikachu the other day, I turned him on for a minute and needless to say turned him right back off. The 'emoti-bots' of the 90s were NOTHING compared to that of todays. At any rate, I don't think I ever owned a Furby. I always had my brothers around the house though.

mweed i love them for the new bigger and cool look, but that function is very bad. Sometimes they don't "understand" what you're saying. I think it's more cool not using words for Pleo (or maybe, i hope just the "name" command for future implementations!)...

When InmemoryofRomeo posted this picture of a wombat the first thing I thought of was "The Mother of all Furbies."  All it needs are big bulging eyes.  I don't know anything about the tools of modern image manipulation.  When I grew up the tools you used for image manipulation were a hammer and a chisel. :)

Your right 49er. I think by hammer and chisel was the only option.
What really looks like a furby is the pygmy tarsier that IMR posted. But I would still love to have a wombat. So cuddly looking.

I used to own a furby (grey stripey one) about 7 years ago...I'm not sure what happened to him as I have moved house about 10 times since then...the last I remember of him was me skinning him as I was going to give him a new look. Eeeek poor little guy. :(

Ican't beleive i didn't see this thread before!  :o I never had a furby, i didn;t actually know robot ones existed for a LONG time. Whenever i heard 'furby' i thought of the little plastic ones you find in happy meals.  ::)  But lets NOT go into McDonalds right now....
NOT ON MY LIFE!   :-\

Mmmm chicken nuggets...

If the chicken nuggets have only been made from 100% chicken in the last twelve months, what were they made from before? :o

Mmmmmmmmmmmm KFC!!! Wrong time for me to be talking about food when I haven't eaten any supper. I love their 'famous mashed potato bowls' They're very similar to a shepherds pie. Now, I make a meaaaaaaaaaaaaan shepherds pie!! Mmmm that is delicious!!

I have two of the latest Furby's that talk and have speech recognition.
One that speaks Dutch and one that speaks English.
However, they have been out of commition for quite a bit.
But I still have them!

Hahaha!
Now that would be something.
But alas, they have no clue what do do with one another.
Body language also becomes a problem when you don't have any arms.
Poor Furbies lol!

Watch out for the darn batteries. I had one leak from my furby onto my coffee table the second day I had the table.  Acid ate the finish off. At first I thought Furby had an accident ;D

The furby really did!! ;D It was battery acid. >:( Batteries fault not Furby's. I did blame Furby for about five years. ;D It sat up on a shelf all by itself until a year ago, New Year's Eve. That's when I decided to get both furbys out and try them with Peeky. FIrst thing Furby said was "BIG Sleep," Yah, after five years on the shelf, I guess so!! ::) They were sure a hit with our company. :)

You are right.
I better take the batteries out.
They haven't been active for a year or more now.
And they each need 4 AA's so that is 2x more chance something will happen since those little Furbies just had two right?
Totally missed the first Furby craze though.
Heard about them at the time, but never got into them.
