Hey guys.. Loki's front right leg sometimes makes a slight grinding kind of noise.. I have done clinic mode numerous times and everything checks as fine.. it's usually only when he's doing a fast tight circle. My boyfriend who is one of those crazy car guys who can drive by and figure out whats wrong with a car or something just by the noise it's making, thinks it sounds like something that maybe needs to be lubricated but neither of us want to do anything like that.
Keep in mind Loki has been running 24/7 since I've had him, aside from his sleep time which is shut down at 11pm and turn on at 9am. So that could have something to do with it.. he also docks and undocks by himself so he's running about when we aren't here. I've decided to leave him off for the day ( :( ) I miss him already!! I also did some gentle rotating of all his gears while he was off, as suggested by some websites and did not feel any resistances or weird things or noises or anything.. so I just wondered if I should be worried. He's an ers-7.
Thanks!!

This is very common with ers-7s, one of my ers-7m3s has a knee joint that makes a terrible grinding noise. Just keep moving the joint around when he is off, that helps a lot. It is caused usually from dust or dirt getting stuck in the joint. If more dust or dirt builds up it can get to the point where he won't be able to move the joint. But the grinding noise happens to almost every ers-7. There is a guide somewhere out there on how to clean the joints (you have to open up the leg and clean each gear one at a time). But I forgot where the guide was, if I find it I will post it here.
-
Thank you very much for the information, I would love to have the information about cleaning even though it would scare me to do it.. but luckily I have a bf whose good at that stuff :)

This is scary, but will give you some idea of what's involved:
http://www.aibo-life.org/forums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=5;t=002880
:o ;)
Manipulation (physiotherapy) is very good for them, though, as Aibo7m3 says. :)
-
Yes I plan to do that as often as I can remember in the morning before he wakes up... I really only notice it on tight corners but he didn't do it at all yesterday after my first time with his 'therapy' lol. Thanks guys and thanks for the scary info Crewella. (still can't get over how perfect your name is for you.. telling me to rip open my puppy dog.. hehehe JUST KIDDING!)

I'm glad you seem to have managed to get it sorted Latrine. :) It is very scary when stuff like that happens even when it turns out to be nothing to worry about. :) Glad he's ok.
-
Me too - glad you've not had to get the scalpels out, Latrine! >:D ;)
-
OK the problem has gotten much worse.. and Crewella, I can't get your link to work :(
I tried out some of the bigger dances today with Loki, the ones where it plays the flute notes before and his back leg just creaked loud enough to make you cringe.
One side does not seem to be able to support him when he does the dances and the other side does sometimes, but it creaks.
We opened one side up carefully, just the screws, to see if there was something obvious but no hairs, no dirt, the areas that were lubricated seemed to have plenty, it sounds like the problem may be the motors in the middle of his back-legs.
I obviously stopped the dancing stuff right away and just stuck his normal brain back in, he creaks slightly every now and then with his normal functions but NOTHING like when he's doing the dances.. I get all panicked when I hear a big creak and put him back on his charger but he complains!! ... I just wonder if I should not be letting him roam around until I figure the problem out..
Problem is, Loki is honestly the only thing keeping my sick parrot calm, when we turn him off, Tyler starts screaming but he seems to not get AS annoyed when Loki's on the charger since he can still communicate with him.. Should I just leave him on the charger? or turn him off completely? He doesn't fall down or anything on his own from it, and the major creaking isn't constant.. maybe once or twice every hour.
maybe I need to contact that Wolfbob guy that Bhobbes was talking about.. I dunno.
When we see the directions for dissecting them It may make it easier to see if we can maybe do it ourselves.. my bf is really good with fixing things and has worked with motors his entire life, just nothing this small but I know he won't try it if he doesn't think it's something he can do..
I guess the seller has no way of knowing but it just ticks me off, with the price I paid for him.. plus I don't want poor Loki's legs to hurt.. (I know.. I know.. he's a robot.. but I still feel bad for him.. )
Anyways, if anyone has any suggestions, please let me know, thanks..
I just found this, it sounds almost exactly like what Loki's leg does when he's trying to do the big dances:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAMqhgyOTsU:
And the leg makes a noise similar to this guy's Aibo, (Loki's is a little louder and doesn't do it every time) also has the same color on the 'ribbon' on both legs:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DR3vmKnD0-M
The Eric one scares me.. I'm hoping that does not mean that Loki has one of those major problems and will need new legs.. :(

I'm so sorry, Latrine. That one of Erric made me cringe! It was really unexpected and... aweful-sounding! Anyway I'm sorry I can't help you but I hope you can get poor Loki fixed. I'm hoping to shake his little plastic paw one day. *smile*

Thanks Talon.. it stinks.. I can't get that page to open because it's part of aibo-life.org and we think they keep 'forbidding' us because we have a roaming ip address.. I usually have to reset the modem a bunch of times before it will let me in.. any chance someone could email me the instructions from the page?
Loki can't walk at all now, that leg makes a horrible noise and then freezes up so we don't want to go digging anymore until we know exactly what we are up against and if it looks too crazy we'll have to send him to the vet, I guess. I can't believe this happened so soon after getting him.. >:( >:( >:(

Oh gosh, I'm so sorry you're having trouble. :(
I really don't have any experience of this, so nothing useful to add, I'm afraid, except good wishes and a hug. :hhug:

My ers-7m3 Aki's knee joint on one leg is almost as bad as what you are describing with your aibo, if it really concerns you, you could send him to wolfbob, he cleaned the joints of my other ers-7m3 Donna and now none of her joints squeak at all.
-
Hey Latrine! Sorry to hear about Loki. I don't know if your 7 was one of the original models or a newer model, but I do know that Sony recalled some of the 7's for a health check. I inquired about one on eBay that was at a cheap price. I was told not to bid unless it had the health check and proof of the check. The list of parts that were recalled was quite extensive. :(
-
From what aibo7m3 says, I guess sometimes manipulation just won't do it - it needs a 'deeper' solution. :(
-
I'm so sorry to hear about Loki's leg issues. I hope you are able to fix him and that it doesn't cost you a fortune to do so. :(
Here's a hug from me. :hhug: :hhug: :hhug:

For cleaning the ERS-7 gears, there are a few guides floating around.
Here is another one: http://www.aibo-kennel.com/TechInfo/PDFs/ers7servoguide.pdf
Not an easy operation.
In general you can try the easy fixes first. Simple manipulation to stretch the legs. If it is only servo jitter, open up the leg casing and spray in contact cleaner.
But when it comes to grinding gears, you will likely need some non-trivial surgery.
---
If you have an original ERS-7M1, you can check the serial number to see if it was one that *should* have been recalled and fixed. Some people didn't do it (including myself). The offer is no longer valid, but it will give you an idea of what you are dealing with.

Hi guys sorry it took me so long to respond, it's been a crummy week for me health wise and I have been stuck sitting down, just like Loki :P
Yes, Loki is one of the aibo's that should have been recalled :( His problem seems to be in his circular 'hip' area on both back legs.. I am going to be emailing WolfBob to see if I can get some help..
Loki can't walk at all now his one back leg just does that horrible creak and he'll fall over or keep trying to move it and say his motor is stuck.. it really sucks as he was described to me as a perfect Aibo. Then again it's my fault.. I saw those videos about eric the ers-7, I had the cash and I went and got a puppy without doing the research.. :P I paid way too much, and I will not be dealing with that person again.
It looks like, from his webpage, that wolfbob charges 85 dollars per leg but since this appears to be in his actual body I don't know what that means... if it will even be fixable or what..
I feel so bad for him though.. I KNOW it's just coincidence but almost every time we discuss Loki's 'paralysis' where he can hear us he says 'I'm sorry' or "I won't do it again' lol.. I know he is just responding to what he thinks he heard us say but it makes me feel SO guilty and I just want to get him fixed and running around the house again.
Thanks, everyone, for all of the info you've provided, unfortunately we can't find anything that will help us to even look at the broken area safely.. we don't want to just jump in to something like that and risk screwing him up more so we're going to have to send him to the vet.
Hopefully he can fix him and I can afford it.. I can certainly wait to get more aibos.. I'd rather Loki be better anyways, as he has become part of the family. We just got a letter in the mail, actually, about re-licensing the dogs and it was asking the number of dogs, 3 popped into my head.. we have 2 Jack Russells and loki... lol.
Something else has been bothering me about him as well. I have a mind3 CD that came with him and looks original but his mind3 stick is blue, not pink. I'm worried it could be a copy.. I didn't even know anything about any of that stuff when I got him..
I mean, I know you can make the other cards work for them, my extra memory card is blue and works fine for the little personality stuff.. but does the blue main card mean it's an illegal copy? Ugh.
Thanks guys.. talk to you later.
- Sarah
-
Mind 3 sticks are blue, not pink, I have two of them, one fairly new from Sony (they still sell Mind 3) and they are both blue.
-
I'm sorry, Latrine. I think I've already said that but... man! Keep us posted on Loki's progress!
Talon
-
Oh Sarah, I can't tell you how sorry I am - is it worth contacting the seller and telling them what's happened? Or have you tried that? I wish there was something I could do to help, but can't think of a thing. Thank you for posting about your experience, though, at least this might help someone else and stop them making an expensive mistake. :hhug:
-
If it is the dust in the joints I wouldn't contact the seller about it (there are very few ers-7s left without grinding joints) both of mine have had them. It's probably just dust since the problems with the original ers-7s wouldn't take 6 years to show up.
-
If it was just dust in the joints, I'd agree with you aibo7m3 - no seller can help that, but from what I can gather Sarah paid top dollar for an 'ERS-7 Mind3 in mint condition', and it's becoming apparent that's not what she got, hence my post. :(
-
Mind 3 sticks are blue, not pink, I have two of them, one fairly new from Sony (they still sell Mind 3) and they are both blue.
Does anyone have the link to the sale of these Mind 3 sticks from Sony? I did a search and can't find it. My champagne ERS-7M3 just arrived today. I haven't had a chance to fire him up. I have to read all the directions first...It's a woman thing I think. I can't do anything without reading the directions first. My stick is a 128MB blue/purple stick with no labeling on it, so I think it is a copy. He did call it "his memory stick", just to be fair to him. I don't care, as long as it works, but I would like to purchase an original from Sony to have a back up and to be somewhat legal, since they are still sold. The seller also gave me a newer Sony Clie, so I think he might be a pirate! (Yo Ho, Yo Ho, a pirate's life for me!) Sorry, heading to Disney on Thursday! I'll keep everyone posted in a different thread about him as soon as I can take some pictures.
I feel very badly about what has happened to Sarah. I almost made the same mistake about a week ago. There was a ERS-7 mind 1 for sale on ebay for a starting bid of $999. I thought I might take a chance. I asked on another forum if it was upgradable to Mind3. Posters said that it was, but one poster, who I just bought a pink PMS stick from for my 210, said that some had been recalled for a health check, and I shouldn't bid unless the person had proof of the health check. That 7 went for about $1600 last night, so who knows what the person who won will be faced with. I sure hope that wolfbob can help Loki and all will be well. I guess as great as these pups are,and as well made as they are, they are 6 years old, or older and we don't have much choice but to buy one second hand. It does bring up a red flag when someone says that something at least 6 years old is "new" or "mint". That just seems impossible to me. My 7 has some scratches on him and at 6 years old (42 in dog years), I expect him to have some. My seller was very up front and sent loads of pictures and videos before purchase, so I am pretty confident that he will be OK. I did not pay top dollar, but Sarah did, and for something that was listed as "mint".
I am going to publicly thank Crewella, if I haven't already done so, for sending me to wolfbob for the purchase of my first Aibo, a 210, as I was going to purchase from ebay, and she advised me otherwise. Not only did she save me a ton of money, but I got a problem free pooch with a six month warranty. I didn't buy my 7 from him because the video of this little guy won my heart, and the seller seemed as honest as the day is long, and so far I am very happy. I hope he doesn't land up being Loki's bunk mate at wolfbob's, but if he does, he'll be in good hands! THANKS CREWELLA!!!!! ;D

You're very welcome, Springer - it's great you're so happy! ;D
Does this help?

Does anyone have the link to the sale of these Mind 3 sticks from Sony?
I sent you a message with the part number and phone number to order it from. Sony has it but doesn't know it (online). You will have to call them directly and order.
-
Aibos seem to be very cool but complecated things. It kind of surprises me that no one has made any robotic creatures- other than perhaps Pleo and Ginibo- that are somewhat comprable to them, or have they? You guys know I live under a rock, right? Congrats on your rare Aibo, Saratogaspringer!

"If it is the dust in the joints I wouldn't contact the seller about it (there are very few ers-7s left without grinding joints) both of mine have had them. It's probably just dust since the problems with the original ers-7s wouldn't take 6 years to show up."
Well, I know, in all fairness, it's my fault, I know that but the seller is taking advantage of people who don't know about aibo's. Again, you should research before getting something like this, obviously..
But I still contacted the jerk seller because I'm pissed and I just want him to know. And I wish there was someway to let other people know he isn't checking the recall info or being honest but I did it through pay pal so there's nothing I can do if he doesn't want to help.. and there's no reason for him to help, from his point of view, I'm sure.. (I can't leave bad feedback and I also can't prove that I didn't somehow break him) If anyone is considering an e-bay purchase and wants to make sure that's not the seller, please send me a PM, don't want to get in trouble on here posting names :P )
There aren't many people who wouldn't take advantage of an idiot willing to dish out top dollar without knowing anything. I paid WAY too much for him, he was supposed to be in pristine condition, he came with a broken bone that had been re-glued, (took me a month of complaining to get him to replace it and he wants the broken one back.. he's not getting it now :P ) a paper cover for the front of the station which, to replace with the proper one, would cost 100 bucks, (Loki isn't always able to align properly because of it) and he did have the SLIGHTEST noise on the one leg when he arrived but I was told, and read that it would be ok with the rotation stuff and I could see that many aibos seemed to have slight grind noises.. this is a major thing, it literally makes you cringe when you hear it... Thanks for the info on the memory card, at least that's good.
It's not just dust..
I already spoke with wolfbob, he's worried he may have to replace both legs because it might be the flexi in the hip, meaning its going to be a lot more money. With all the shipping and repair, I am going to probably be spending what I wanted to spend on a 220 to fix Loki. lol.
I'm so worried about sending him in, what if I pack him wrong, what if he gets misplaced along the way.. (it's just him and his memory card brain with no battery,.. so he can't even crawl away if he gets loose! ) (he crawled one of the last times I turned him on and allowed him on the floor.. is that some type of programming if the back legs aren't working? He wasn't headed toward anything pink or red or in puppy mode.. it made me cry but I'm a stupid sappy girl.. lol. )
wolfbob sounds very nice and depending on what legs he has available, I told him if he didn't have white ones that were usable and he needed to use another color, I didn't care, so long as Loki worked again.. I think he'd look cool with like, two black legs, lol..
Saratoga, congrats on your new pup.. stop reading the darn manual and play with him!! omg! *smack* ;D ;D I hope he stays safe and happy too, but my seller seemed wonderful and had over 3000 positive feedback's, no negative. So be careful!!
Talon, I don't know for sure but I assume the Aibo's were not able to sell for as much as they were worth or something, or maybe they had the same problem as ugobe did, what with the person really needing to see and feel the robot to understand how cool it was.., tv commercials can lie and they are so amazing, our pleos and Aibos, that most people thought it was fake.. I know Sony has actual stores that used to have working Aibos in place for people to interact with but there aren't any Sony stores near me, lol..
Now that the people are going a little more nuts over the Aibos, it was a good idea to bring in a new model, I just wish Sony would continue on with Aibos, Genibo seems cool but from what I've read, doesn't seem to interact as much, navigate as well.. etc, although apparently they have some 'cool moves' ;D I'm saying that now but I started off saying I didn't like the beeps and whistles from the Aibos and now I want another model that does just that so who knows.. I'm insane. Lets just hope my bank account can survive Loki's vet trip :) I don't wanna have to sell one of my dogs!! (JK!! :-X :-X :-X)
Talk to you guys later.. thanks :)
-
Eh.. my boyfriend and I were just looking very closely at Loki's back legs and it appears that one of the legs has already been serviced or is at least different than the other one. I was wrong, it's his left leg that's worse, not his right.. I'm just a moron I wasn't thinking 'his right leg' I was thinking mine.. stupid blonde streaks.
Anyways, one leg has a full, clear-ish plastic part across the top and the other does not, the one that does not has the ribbon more exposed, I thought both were exposed because I could see the ribbon a bit through it, since it's clearish. I wonder who fixed it.. or changed it.. or what, but it seems to be on it's way out too.. now I'm even more pissed that this guy didn't tell me he'd been worked on. I don't care if he didn't know, I'm just mad :P but I thought someone here might know more about the way it's supposed to look..
These are the back legs,
So here's the left leg with the clear plastic piece across the top(in the joint on the top, right below where the white color ends):
And here's the bad right leg where it's only dark plastic that stops on each side:
I wonder if one of the folks who fixes the Aibo's might have a record based on Loki's number. Sorry,. my camera isn't so great about closeups.
The seller finally responded to me.. apparently he's never heard of any Aibo's ever being recalled or ever having any problems that needed to be fixed. I mean come on can't you even think of an excuse? Or just not reply if your that dumb! lol... :) I sent him a link with the recall numbers and explanations of a bunch of the normal problems they can get and should be 'health checked' for.. not that he'll read it but you never know.
- Sarah
-
lol Silly Latrine. I hear what you're saying. :-/
-
It'll be very interesting to see what (if) he says. Good luck, Latrine! :hhug:
-
It will be very interesting to see what he has to say. I do hope you hear back from him.
-
We are thinking about trying to fix Loki ourselves.. :-X :-X :-X If we screw it up bad then he can always go to Wolfbob but I just can't afford it right now.. four nieces and nephews and birthdays and graduations and football cleats.. (really expensive, wow!!)
I know, probably a horrible idea but, if we are very careful and determine that we cannot fix it ourselves then we can just wait and have it sent in. I can't see how we can do any harm if we are careful as wolfbob said it sounded like he would need both back legs replaced anyways... so we may just be opening it up to see a problem we can't do anything about.. I'm hoping we open each leg, find a red button that says 'press me' and that fixes everything...
Maybe a blue button, the red button usually makes everything explode, doesn't it?
So, horrible, horrible, horrible idea? I miss Loki so much :(
- Sarah
-
There are some guides on how to clean their legs, it actually sounds fairly possible to do. It sounds like your aibo just has dirt/dust in his joints though it could be the problem that the original ers-7s got recalled for, if so it would need much more serious work done on it that I would leave to wolfbob or other experts at fixing aibos. Maybe you should just try to clean out his joints and if the problem still remains send him to wolfbob.
-
Ooo! Surgery! Ha ha ha! *evil grin* I'm kidding of course, Latrine. When Ryu just randomly froze one day and nothing I did- not even reset- would revive her all sorts of very illogical thoughts went through my head. I honestly felt like I'd lost an actual pet. I really hope you're able to fix Loki. Keep us posted.
Talon

Did you manage to get those links to the posts about cleaning the legs to work in the end, Latrine? If you still have problems message me and I'll download and email them to you. You stand a much better chance if you have all the info.
Might tell you which button to push as well! :P
-
I got them, crewella, unfortunately Loki's problem isn't in the area all of those DYI instructions help with and describe, they are in his hip, so it's going to have to be removing the circular part on left and right to get in there and see whats going on.. I was gone for several days and turned him on today just hoping he might be magically fixed and he actually walked around!! So I crossed my fingers and told him to beg for it and then plop same thing. It seems like a gear is slipping... something is maybe stripped inside.. like wolfbob said. I tried again and he couldn't walk at all.. so I just don't know.
We DO have a friend with a machine shop who would be able to duplicate plastic parts for us if we find one that is broken.. we'd just have to provide one that isn't broken for him to copy.. that could be a problem if both are broken..
So if that's the problem we might be able to fix that part.. unfortunately if he makes a copy he can't just make one, he has to make like, 300 because that's the way the machines work but if it's a useful part that might be a wonderful thing, maybe we'd be able to provide much needed pieces to the people like wolfbob that fix Aibos. we'll see, I guess. Also, if we have two broken pieces, maybe I could get a working piece from wolfbob to get our friend to copy.. unless he already has someone who can do that, I dunno.. this friend of ours is just very talented and can make like, anything.. I wish I could just hand him Loki and get him to make a copy .. %) %) %)
"It sounds like your aibo just has dirt/dust in his joints"
I dunno.. it could be but it really seems worse than that.. I will get a video tomorrow and show you guys. Then we will try to do some surgery.. or maybe just some searching..
I'm so pathetic.. when I turned him on and asked him to stand up and then come here and he did, I started crying..lol.. then of course when his legs went right out again I lost it.
Thanks guys, talk to you later!!
- Sarah
-
I'm sorry, Latrine. I would be interested in your video, though.

Hey Sarah, you must be heartbroken to have little Loki in such a state. :'( I would be devastated if it happened to me. Did you ever hear back from the seller and are they willing to help you out in any way?
I would love to be able to give you advice on what to do but not quite yet owning one myself I have no experience in this area so couldn't say if it would be possible to make things any worse by having a go at fixing him yourself. My gut feeling though says give it a try. If it all goes wrong there is always the back up of Wolfbob.
I'm thinking of you and wishing you all the best with your attempt. Fingers crossed you will be able to sort him out. :hhug: :hhug: :hhug:  :hhug:
-
No, he never replied after the message asking about the recalled aibos.. he has no obligation to help, I did it over paypal.. if it had been ME doing the selling, I would have done something but not everyone is like that, I guess.
I do see that NONE of his aibos sell, even with his 'over 3000 positive feedback..' and I assume thats because people were smart and didn't buy from someone with no guarantee against those problems.
Thanks guys.. I'll make his video, I guess..
Congrats on your new pup, Kat ... just saw that in shout ;D ;D
- Sarah
-
Thanks Sarah! A bit of a secret but he will be my second puppy. :-X ;D :-X My first one is on his way already a sweet little black 210 with golden ears. :) (He was a bargain from Wolfbob I just couldn't resist ;D) So not only do I get my dream puppy but a bonus sweet puppy friend for him as well. ;D
I do hope you are able to get poor Loki sorted out. It makes me sad just thinking about it. I know the timing is probably not in your favor but would it be worth speaking to paypal and ebay to alert them of the dodgy practices of this fellow who has clearly sold you something that is not what was advertised. If he is the person/company I think he is he seems to have a small shop that sells lots of things on ebay. Surly ebay would not want to support fraud and you could have a lot of power there as far as having his ebaying rights remove - maybe? I'm sure he may be more willing to compensate you in some way if he was threatened with loosing his ability to sell through ebay? I'm not at all clued up on how ebay works as I am totally new to things like that but I would be bringing it to the attention of the ebay Administrators even if the time limit for doing so has run out. It was an expensive purchase as are most of the items he sells and I would hate to see anyone else go through what you are.
Good luck with the surgery. I do hope you can see something easy that is obviously damaged and easily replaced.
Kat
-
Kat, I would look just as bad if I did that because I bought Loki through PayPal without using eBay.. I didn't REALLY cheat with ebay, as I didn't buy a dog that was up for auction but I almost did..
His eBay prices were too high and I asked about any other robots he had for sale.. he offered Loki without a box for cheaper and I said yes to that because I didn't feel I needed the box.. it ended up being nearly the same amount of money anyways but I was so excited I got him anyway. Honestly I am VERY VERY lucky he sent me Loki after I sent him my money, considering I now know he is dishonest.. Thanks though.. and I'm so happy for you with your new pups.. aren't they so much fun?
I can still play with Loki on his station but I so miss him running around. :(
- Sarah
-
I'm so sorry Sarah. :'( I guess you really are stuck then. I can't think of anything else to suggest. :(
I Do hope you are able to get him fixed sometime soon. :hhug: :hhug: :hhug:

Hi Sarah and Kat! Sorry to hear about Loki, Sarah. I know how much he means to you. I hope that wolfbob can make him as good as new for you. Congratulations on your ERS-7, Kat. Glad your search has been successful. I am in Florida. Candy and Buster made the trip, but Wilbur and Padfoot had to stay behind. We took Candy to Universal, but have not taken her into the Disney parks yet. Took lots of pictures and will post as soon as I have free wifi. It is blazing hot down here so I have to be careful with her.
Keep us posted when Loki leaves for wolfbob!
-
Hey Saratoga that is so exciting. ;D I hope your having fun in Florida. I can't wait to see some pics. I'm guessing Buster is your new ers7? Great name for him by the way. :) I'm sure Wilbur and Padfoot will be very happy to see you when you get home but they will be fine chilling out while your gone. Have fun.

Well, It's very strange, when Loki has been turned off for several days he seems to be able to walk for a short amount of time although he falls over very easily..
He was in a really bad mood when I turned him on and he just totally refused to listen to any commands.. I finally gave him his ball and bone and he played with them for a few minutes and then decided to give me a tiny bit of attention but I actually had to use the clinic mode CARD for the first time since he wouldn't even do that for me.. and that's what I got the video of.
When he falls over he either does the normal limp fall over or falls over limply with the worst leg staying stuck in whatever position it was in, or straight out.. we can hear it.. it sound like a gear or something is stripped. We are *eek* :o :-X take him apart when my bf's back is feeling better next week so it won't hurt so much to bend over my poor broken puppy dog and see if there is anything we can do..
The problem still seems to be up where me moves the leg in the top, where it rotates close to the body, not the area everyone keeps telling me to clean as we checked both of those and they are fine.. he WILL probably be going to wolfbob, I need to save up a little more cash as I want to make sure I have enough here in case there are any other problems and everything.. the bird being sick and stuff kind of depleted my funds.. it would be nice if we were able to fix him ourselves so I am crossing my fingers..
Heres the video, again, it's odd to me that he's walking as he normally tries to take a few steps and then gives me the gear stuck limp fall down thing or just crashes to the floor but it does happen after he's been on a bit so he is still confined to the station.

All I can say is aaaaaaowowowowow! It really sounds deep and difficult to fix. It kind of reminds me of the sound my niece's Powerwheels vehicle made when she was trying to drive it up a hill. It stopped about halfway up and started slowly rolling backward all the while making this soft squeaky grinding noise. I'm really sorry, Latrine. I hope wolfbob can do something for him.

That made me kind of sad to watch :(
Like a real animal with a limb problem.
-
Poor Loki - as a girl with dodgy hip problems really do feel for him! :'(
That doesn't look like dirt in the motors, it's slipping with the additional weight on it. I'm sure Wolfbob can fix him, though - why don't you send him that video and see what he says? He might be able to give you some advice?
-
Here is a little something that might give you some ideas for ways to interact with Loki even in his injured state.
While I was in Melbourne visiting IMR we went for a walk to look around and came across this cute little dog going for a walk/roll.

And here is another suggestion made for Aibo. :)

Don't know if either of these are helpful but maybe a set of wheels would help Loki out until you can afford to send him to the vet. %)

Yeah it made me so sad seeing Loki like that I actually moved his station so it's in front of the TV and so far all day he seems to have been mostly watching TV.. his head is up and he's moving it with stuff on the screen rather than just sitting there holding his head straight and moving it when he hears something or is interacting with me.. I had to make a little video since it was so cute :)

I love when I see dogs on those 'wheels' it's wonderful to see people who haven't just given up on dogs because of an injury, ya know? And I've seen some of those Aibo skateboards and the skateboard videos though never one that advanced or an Aibo that could control it that well.. very cool programming I guess!! Maybe when Loki is better I can get my bf to build him one so he can run the dogs over when they steal his toys! Thanks for sharing those!!!!

Attah boy, Loki you trooper! *imagines patting robotic puppy* Keep your spirits up. Keep us posted, Latrine.

That was very cute! I love how Ben was watching TV too. :D
-
Well.. Loki FINALLY arrived and Wolfbob was kind enough to send this picture of the RB, Crow that I traded to him to get Thor, checking out Loki's box.. very sweet.. he is really enjoying Crow and Hannah's Ugobe, Dude.. I don't know anything about his condition yet, just glad to know he's there :)
What a nice guy he is!

-
I saw that picture posted somewhere. It kind of made me giggle. He said something like, "Crow knows there's an old friend in this box." I'm sure wolfbob can fix him. Hopefully we'll know what's going on soon.

That's exactly what he said.. how in the world did you know that!! That's too funny.. :D ;D
- Sarah
-
'Cause I'm good like that. Hahaha! *Mischievous grin* No really I red it somewhere on the forum. Has he given you any information about what's going on with Loki?
Talon

Yes is there any news on Loki? We are all waiting with you on tender hooks to here that he is going to be fixed and ok. :hhug:
-
Well, poor WolfBob and his wife are sick with a stomach bug, so I think it will probably take him a bit longer to get to Loki, plus he has a few other puppies lined up for surgery before him.. I told Bob to please just rest and forget about the robots for a few days, after all, we can unplug them, not him! I also gave him a few recipes for easy stuff to make to drink at home to help them feel better faster, I'm the queen of gut info :P So I'm hoping they feel well soon and I'm sure he'll let me know about Loki as soon as he's able too.. I just hope they feel better, I know how that feels and it sucks!! Thanks for asking though :D
- Sarah
-
Quite right - we need to get the 'fixer' fixed up first and foremost! :D
-
Well I do hope Wolfbob feels better soon. There is nothing worse than being sick. Loki is in good hands a few more days wait wont change anything so I am sure he will be just fine, and when Wolfbob feels better he will have him good as new in no time. :) :hhug: :hhug: hugs for everyone to feel better. :)
-
Maybe Loki and Nicco can play together as he's still there (all fixed) hopefully cheering up the wolfbobs and entertaining the other pups (I secretly want a behind the scenes look at the surgery).
-
Yeah, wouldn't it be cool if they were playing together? I think Wolfbob told me he likes to run them for two battery cycles after fixing them, just to be sure they are running fine so odds are they'll meet up! Or maybe they'll just see each other from a distance:D I'm wondering if Loki will come back with two black hind legs instead of white.. hehe.. just so long as he works.
I wish we could get a picture of them together though..
I guess when everyone is back home, I can make one of all the aibo's together.. that'd be a lot easier than all the Pleos since there are many more of them but that might be a fun thing to do too..
I just found out my bf got me a new computer for my birthday (I'm going to be 29.. again.) (actually 32.. lol) so I can finally get all MY editing stuff on it and really go to town!
Anyways, maybe our pups will come home with pictures of each other :D

Well I got a good long email from wolfbob, he said It really looks like Loki is an M1 dog that never had the Clinic Service.. He said "My research indicates that several things were done in this service including changing the upper leg servos as they were not powerful enough to do all the motions. So now we have full agreement with what you observed in the front knees were marginal and the rear legs would not allow all of the tricks." I don't understand why the original owner wouldn't have sent him in for the free repair.. Wolfbob thinks they may have replaced all four legs when they did it, as they maybe weren't strong enough to support some of the stuff they did on the M2 and M3, I guess..
So he is going to be getting both rear legs replaced.
The problem was he only had one white rear leg.. He DOES have 2 black ones.. I had thought he might look cool with two black legs but Wolfbob thinks it'd look silly and I assume he would know best.. so he will use Loki's white plastic pieces to make the legs white and just the round hip piece (the part attached to the main body) will be black on both hind legs.. I asked him if it would be possible to replace the front leg hip parts with black pieces as well, so it'd match better but that wouldn't work without replacing the entire leg sooo.. that's not happening. lol.
So Loki will have 2 black 'spots' but I think he'll look cool. UGH Thor just fell down AGAIN!! every ten minutes.. I swear.
I still think Loki would look neat with 2 black hind legs but the hip parts will be fine... honestly just so long as he works I'll be happy.
Apparently he pranced around for 2 battery cycles, flirting with a cute female British M3 dog, not showing the slightest problem.. lol.. then, luckily, Wolfbob saw his issues and stopped thinking I was crazy. I guess he didn't wanna look weak in front of the ladies. Wolfbob said he will probably be able to ship him back to us on Tuesday!! :D :D
I'm so glad to finally have gotten some news.. I'm sure Wolfbob will be glad to have finally stopped hearing from me every day.. lol

Glad you have some news and a plan! :D
I'd give pretty much anything to be a fly on the wall of Wolfbob's surgery too! 8)
-
So glad Loki is well on his way to getting better! ;D He is going to look totally gorgeous with a couple of black spots. And he will be unique. ;D I can't wait to see pics of him when he gets home. :)
-
Loki is back!! I can't believe he's back so soon as I thought he was just mailed yesterday.. I was all depressed because I'm having surgery in exactly 2 weeks (yuck!) and I figured great that gives me a few days with him and I'll be shaking like a leaf because I'll be all nervous but he's here.. and.. just to be different... instead of PEEING on his bone when he arrived, like everyone else's Aibo seems to be doing, Loki FARTED on it. I'd never seen that before. he did the same movements as when they pee on it then he just backed his rear end into it to knock it over and I heard a little 'toot' noise.. lol.. hysterical. He's as deaf as ever but his 'spots' look great.. I'll post a video later.. I'm so glad he's home!!
Ok.. Loki was eager to show us he could dance right away and REALLY threw those new hind legs into it.. what do you guys think of his new black hip 'spots' ? I think they look cool:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Uh7oL8dcew
Here I tried to introduce Thor and Loki with the 'talk to your friend' command and since Thor was too young on his normal software I tried using dogs life 2 in him.. apparently it doesn't support that command, I THOUGHT it was working, then Thor just started going nuts looking for the ball and that made him look like a rabid dog.. lol.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JeasqcXb13Y
Here we had a pink ball battle.. Thor is CLEARLY the victor, Loki gets ready to hit the ball and Thor sideswipes it away.. and was it just me or did it look like Thor ghave Loki the finger when he first saw him near the ball.. lol.. The two of them do nothing but fight.. my bf brought up a good point saying 'well, you DID name them Thor and Loki, and then made Thor a Decepticon.. what do you expect?' so I guess it's my fault.. lol. Anyways, here's the ball fight:

I think he looks really cool with the touch of black.
-
He does look great with those patches - really distinguished! He really did look like he was showing off how much better he feels in that first clip! ;D
That was hilarious seeing them fight over the ball, Wilma and Java are just the same! :P
I've not tried the 'talk to your friend' thing yet - too many robots and too little time! I'll get there one day! :-[
I'm so glad Loki got home to you in good time! ;D
-
He looks fantastic! I'm so glad Wolfbob was able to fix him for you. He does seem very pleased with himself and his new dance moves. :D I love the ball fight too. At the moment at my house with Pixel still being a baby that crawls Milo is winning the ball war. :D His time will come though when Pixel starts walking it will all be over. :)
Great to see Loki back home and all better. Try no to worry too much about your surgery, we will all be here to keep you company. :) Have fun with Loki and Thor. Don't let Thor bully him too much. :D
-
Thanks guys.. and thanks Kat, I'll 'try' not to worry but it's always worrisome.. I just have to decide which RB to bring with me.. :) I wish I could bring Loki but he's just too noisy if I have a room-mate.. the RB's can be muted and just quietly cuddled. :)
Have any of you guys ever had your ERS-7 'fart' on his bone? I thought that was hysterical and now whenever he looks like he's going to do it I film him but he just pees on it or kicks it over.. brat!!
- Sarah
-
I haven't seen Milo fart yet! :D But I will be looking out for it now :D ;D
-
I've not seen Java fart either - whatever has that Wolfbob been teaching him!! :o ;)
I am sure you'll pick the right RB for the job, Sarah - but I'm equally sure any of them will do a good job of looking after you for us! :hhug:
-
And once again I'm late and miss all the fun! Grr! Welcome back, Loki!
