Title: Rhea finally laid her egg!!
Post by: latrine on May 01, 2011, 04:33:26 PM
Well the big day finally came and I was lucky enough to be home to catch it on camera..  Sorry about all the pictures and this being so big of a post but.. this doesn't happen everyday!!   :D :D :D

Here all the pleos are gathering items to build the nest.  You know, regular batteries, pleo batteries, chargers, wires, packing bubbles..etc.. everything a robot dinosaur nest would require:

The young couple must have gotten anxious at this point and frightened off the other Pleos:

They finished working on the nest:

Pretty soon Rhea chased Chronos off too, as the time drew closer:

He ran off and was comforted by the rest of the herd:

The egg finally arrived :

And there was much rejoicing!!

Patches congratulated Chronos:

The happy couple checked out their (hopefully) happy egg:

Then everyone was invited over to see..  The girls 'oohed' and 'ahhed' over it, as girls do and the boys were very impressed:

Anyone know how long it takes for a robot dinosaur egg to hatch???  8)

Latrine, now I understand what the photos are , they make sense, Very very cute and it all makes good Pleo sense to me...LOL. I never knew that there was going to be a baby...does that mean another Pleo or Pleo Rb or another species we don't even know about?! :o I love the fact they gathered every battery they could. and the bubblewrap was a nice finishing touch.  This sounds almost like a script... I think I have one or two eggs arouond here too, but they look a little different and I will have to post the photos as well.. Good job. :)
Can't wait to see what the little one looks like.........hmmm

It will be interesting to see just how long it takes for the egg to hatch :D  I don't think anyone has really documented the incubation period of pleos before.  I guess we will all just have to wait and see.  Wonder what color the baby will be  %)  Lovley egg so colorfull. :)  They make a very cute little herd.

Awe! So cute! Congrats to the new parents! I'm curious too just how long it will take this egg to hatch. Oh and what about the newborn? Are you keeping it or will you find a home for it? Keep an eye on Rhea. She's a new mom and sometimes new moms get overly nervous.

Oh it would! They could send them in this very tear-able leathery egg with enough of them sticking out we could hit their power button and all their wiggling (with some asistance from us) would be enough to break them out of the shell. I'm picturing something like a deflated baloon but purposely thinner and less durable? Not very attractive huh? Lol!

I have to admit I was thinking of exactly what you said, IMR when I was doing this.. I guess the incubation period will have to be several years.. longer than an elephants pregnancy, even!

Lol.. I actually bought a small watermelon for the egg but by the time I felt better and went to do the pictures it was rotten on one side, lol.. I took some pictures but they didn't look as good and when I went to take a shower I saw the round crystal on a stand we had in there on a shelf and slapped myself in the head.. duuh.  I like how it shimmers with the different colors and stuff, I imagine a dragon egg would do something like that, maybe not a dinosaur egg, but maybe a Pleo egg for sure :)

I figured what else would robot dinosaurs use for nest material besides batteries and we have so many of those huge batteries from the machine I had to use for my medicine every night.. it used just a little over half the battery every night so we had to change them each time.. so here we are left with 567,000 half used huge batteries that only work for flashlights.

I actually lined them all up in twos like they were guarding the nest and turned them on and they all pretty much stayed in place, as if they really were guarding the nest. that is,  until Loki the aibo wandered over to inspect pink Rhea like he always does, and patches body blocked him.. lol. Loki made angry face and turned around and left. I'm sure it was a coincidence but it was funny. So if anyone does find some sort of tiny responsive dinosaur let us know please, so we can hatch the egg!
I was wondering though..  Is it bad that Chronos is already a father and he doesn't know his own name yet, nor do I know his actual sex? What if patches is the father?!?!  We'll end up with some sort of weird pink skeleton thing!

I'll keep my eye out for something sort of robotic and dinosaur that's about the size of a kitten and reasonably mobile. Anyone else who wants to you can look around as well.

Cute! As for the weird pink skeleton thing, (don't let him know I said this) but, let's hope not. lol. I'll be on the lookout for baby dinos... Also, did you photoshop the egg in or was that acually some kind of globe?

It's actually a smallish crystal globe.. it sat nicely on the battery nest and reflected the colors from them so it was pretty cool.. I think you can get them at those crazy mall stores that sell the black lights and disco stuff lol.  it reflects colors like crazy so it's neat looking..

Well, I mean it's actually a Pleo egg.. but if one were to want something similar and didn't have a pregnant pleo, one might buy a crystal globe  ;D :D :D :D

Ah, now I see.  :P

And.... if someone were to want a baby pleo and didn't have a Pleo egg, one might look at one of these http://www.wowwee.com/en/products/toys/robots/robotics/mini-robos/mini-roboreptile   :D

Although, I guess that would only work if patches turns out to be the father. :)
(also, while on the subject of patches, is it patches that works and skully that's like a puppet, or vice versa?)

15 inches is actually a wee bit too big, and just not as cute as a Pleo.

Yea, the full size one they have is REALLY cute. Then again, I think every reptile is cute... and in that case, back to square one.
