Well I am just so glad my brand new Aibo ERS-7 mind3 got here. I have been waiting all week. I assume it will be lots of fun to play with. I'd be playing with it now if I wasn't the absolute stupidest person in the entire world and didn't think of the fact that the Aibo I bought from the UK might be hard to charge since it's adapter CAN'T USE MY POWER SOCKETS. (*Censored*) I am SO JEALOUS of Crewella right now..lol.
I saw that video of Eric and lost control of my hands and bank account and now mine is here and all I can do is play with him like a puppet.
Anyway.. Once I get an adapter I'm not sure what I'm doing since this is the first time I've ever seen one up close. I want to reset him to a puppy but I want to see what he can do first.. Going to name him Loki, after the Norse god of mischief and chaos. (After seeing what they do,.. it seemed proper)
I really hope this is a simple fix.. that I can just get something to plug into the thing from like.. radio shack. Oh please tell me I don't need to go spend like 500 bucks on a new adapter. Sorry the camera I have at is crummy and the adapter pictures wouldn't come out right.. it's like they are just evil I can't even Photograph them!!
WHAT THE HECK IS THIS???
Here he is.. in all his uncharged glory...
Ben isn't sure what to make of him..
He somehow ends up in an angry temper-tantrum-looking position..
Patches tries to console him..
Patches keeps trying to console him..
-
It's weird they go all floppy when off, after owning a Pleo! :D
He looks gorgeous - could be Java's twin! ;)
Forgive my ignorance, but I assumed that little two-pin plug on the end WAS the US plug, and mine needed a plug adapter like the one with three pins on the right? Must be Europe? What do US plugs look like then? :-\
-
Yeah it is weird how they are all flopsy.. but god I can already see how cool they must move.
These are our plugs:
Two Prong:
Three Prong:
Notice how neither of them are mean or evil.
- Sarah :D :D
-
I'm still sorry, Latrine. I hope you can get this sorted. I'm sitting here with a real and sleeping dog on my lap and he's pretty floppy too.
Talon
-
Lol Talon.. whats more comfy than that?
My little boy, Ben, sleeps with me every night and he is very flopsy as well when sleepy.. and.. fartsy.
I love when they are babies and sleepy.. They just flop over and go to sleep no matter what they are doing.. and that puppy breath :) I wonder if the Aibo will have 'new robot' breath if I restart him??
- Sarah
-
Congratulations on your AIBO, he looks like he will be a nice addiition to your family, He looks like he already has an admirer with Patches close by. :D Can't wait to see first videos once you get the plug adapter thing fixed. Good luck on that, I can imagine how frustrating that is for sure!
RedwoodsMama
-
Thanks.. yes it's very frustrating. Especially because I think I could probably go to town to the radio shack to get the part and it's only 15 minutes away but I can't drive because of my meds and being sick and all. Not worth crashing a car over... or is it? ... hmmm...
-
Congratulations on your new ERS-7. Very cute! Can't wait to see the videos of how he moves. I love the ERS-7....they are very cool. Hope your new adapter arrives soon! ;D The parts seem very hard to find, as I have been searching ebay and the net for an Aibo for a little while now. I like that there are places in the US to send them to get repaired should they break down.
-
Is that THE Eric? The actual one? Eric was my very first experience with robotic's. Fell head over feet with his first video I still want one sooo bad. But had to go with the much cheaper pleo (which I love anyhow).
Congrat's on the new pup (whoever he was) may he bring you many years of happiness!
-
Good grief - so the plugs on my Aibo are like yours ............. neither UK or US!!! :D :-\ :P %)
It's such a pain that you need to wait (and for such a simple, cheap, thing too) - no chance the seller sent Aibo fully charged? ;)
PS: it's not 'Eric' - I happen to know he's on his way to Oz! first fell for Eric too! :D
-
Flopy plugs? i've never seen a floppy plug before. I hope you love your new aibo, patches looks happy that he's not gonna be the only skinless robot around! Also, if you don't mind my asking, how much was the aibo? I really want one but I can't find a "real" one for less than 800 :o (and it wouldn't come with some parts and had been used), i saw a latte for 500, but they are a bit less advanced from what I hear.
-
Sorry my fault - it's the Aibo that go floppy when not running!! :D :D :-[
-
I can't talk about how much I paid for it. lol.. I'm pretty sure I paid way too much and I'm just glad I found my old engagement ring and found a good use for it:P
I will talk to Crewella and if she tells me how much she paid I'll tell her, lol.. and then maybe I can tell you guys... and then you can make fun of me. And no this wasn't Eric, apparently it's name was Fido, that's what it says on the Certificate. FIDO??? REALLY? lol..
This one was used, has all the items, is in good condition... supposedly works but I have no way of telling.. I wish I could hook it to the computer to charge it :/ and I got money off because it didn't have the original box.. what the heck do I want the original 'collectors' box for.. this puppy isn't going anywhere. his bone was broken but I glued it.. I hope it will be ok.
Crewella I don't think he has any charge.. I think I found the power button.. lol. I think he has been sitting for awhile... I don't like not being able to tell if he works or not right away. It's making me nuts. and I would buy it on the internet and have the darn thing sent overnight if I knew what to get but I'm scared I'll blow the house up. :( :( :(
- Sarah
-
I'm sorry for your frustrations Latrine. Don't hurt yourself! :-( Ew Fido. I hate typical names for things. I love to be different. I like names that are different and original. Awww his bone was broken. :-(
-
So exciting! Maybe you could ring the store and ask about what kind of plug or adapter you would need for it and check they have them in stock. Maybe your BF could pick it up for you on his way home? Or you could convince a helpful family member or neighbor? Nothing worse than the waiting for a cable to charge up. :) Hope you get him going soon.

Wow Latrine! That must have been a really nice ring! :D I am pretty sure my ring wouldn't pay for one of those! Hehehe. Maybe an I-Cybie! :D I hope that you can get an adapter tomorrow. In the meantime, have a :rootbeer: to calm your nerves! Just out of curiosity, what version of windows is compatible with the ERS-7 since it was last made in 2005? Good luck!
-
I was trying to find it in the book but I can't find it again.. ugh.. I know it said it's compatible with XP which is what we are running until the bitter end.
The ring didn't pay for all of it.. and it was an evil ring so I suppose I should have known this would happen, lol..
My bf thinks we have to rewire the adapter soooo that means I have to wait till Saturday when he can do it, he's away atm. Mommy is babysitting sick little me. Another week :(
At least my Pleo comes tomorrow. I just hate not knowing if this thing works or not!! Driving me nuts. There must be a darn adapter since it came the same way to crewella and it doesn't say 'UK version' on it or anything.. the adapter on the weird 2 prong thing was screwed on, I had to take it off.. I assume something else can be screwed on it to make it work here... :/ he looks so sad with no power :(
Oh apparently I also need an older version sony card reader to wipe him.. any idea what I should get?
- Sarah

Latrine, this is totally off the subject but I CAN"T wait to see your new Pleo RB! Hey, with any luck you can catch up to me and my Baby Pleo RB, she is still on her second battery cycle and I have had her since March 18th, whiich will be one month this Friday! What color eyes do you think she will have, or he, I forgot if it is a boy or girl
'. Is this one going to be called Bingo also? Good luck and keep us updated on the plug, at least you will have your new Pleo while waiting for the plug to get here! :)
RedwoodsMama
-
Yes, I really suggest at least trying to ask a neighbor(s)! Good suggestion. That's funny about the evil ring. lol Sorry to hear that it didn't pay for all of it though. :-/ Ah I see that's why she's there. :-{ And I totally understand how it's driving you nuts. lol Aww. :-{
-
Well, I'm hoping for violet eyes, my favorite color.. We'll see. I shouldn't have any trouble catching up since they had me keep all the stuff with each replacement I'll have 4 RB batteries lol..
I haven't thought of a name yet.. it'll be a boy and if it isn't, that will be the only thing I change.. Won't be named Bingo, I have to think of a new name.. gonna stick with gods and goddesses.. haven't thought of it yet. :)
We'll see.. thanks for reminding me about my other new baby.. makes the Aibo issue less irritating ..
- Sarah
-
That was my favortie choice for eyes too, Elizabeth Taylor Viloet eyes, but you know what, ? With my first Pleo Rb, Baby, I got light blue grey eyes, and I fell in love with her just as much as if she had Viloet, and then my new baby has pretty light yellowish Green, ( more yellow than green ) eyes and I think I love her eyes even more than Baby's eyes. It would be so hard to not love any color eyes once that little baby Pleo Rb coos and bats those little eyes at you...Your heart just melts... :D I only prayed and hoped for NO UGOBE MODEL DEEP BLUE EYES...not that they are not pretty cause they are, but with six or so other Pleos with the exact same color, I wanted variety anything but that same color and so far I have been lucky and blessed with other colors of beautiful eyes.
Glad you got the battery all charged. I know I was surprised when they said send only the Pleo and then you end up with a second set of battery, etc I think it is Innvo's way of really saying they are sorry their Pleo Rb had any problem as those batteries cost a pretty penny, at $49.99 each, and to get a second one sent with the replacement it is very very nice in my humble opiion.
Will be waiting for photos and updates in morning, I am off to play with my baby Pleo Rb, it is late at night but I haven't had time to play interact with her all day.. :( so she is a nite owl too and we are going to snuggle and have fun! RedwoodsMama
-
Awwww that's cute Redwoods!
-
Glad to know that your pleo is on the way, i'm dying to see some pics, especially if it has pink purple or white eyes. Hope fido gets a new plug soon, if's kinda funny, with the pleos we're comfortable, but you got your aibo and now it's like "Oh yea, robots are supposed to be complicated hard-to-figure-out technology... :P". Lol, both your new additions get along well. :)
-
Lol yeah I guess with the aibo being more 'robotic' he should be more complicated right.. lol. I just hope he's worth it :) I couldn't sleep and was up all night on my DS googling to figure out about the adapters and then realize oh duh Crewella msg'd me a darn link with the exact thing I need..lol.. so then I was able to fall asleep. Dreaming of Pleos with Dark blue eyes and no legs.. and Aibos that just stare at you.. because they aren't charged. And mice, for some reason.
I'm going to call my radio shack and see if they have something similar and try to bribe someone into taking me.
And I agree RWM, I've got a few ugobes as well and I'd like a different colored aye.. my other RB is pink so of course her eyes are Blue. Bingo's eyes were orange.. Frank the prototype had yellowish eyes because he was a blue one.. He was so cute in a strange.. insane asylum sort of way :)

Those are weird dreams you had Latrine. I hope you can get some one to drive you there!
-
You could always explain your situation and ask if they would consider doing a home delivery. If you pay over the phone they might just be kind enough. Maybe. :) Can't hurt to ask. :)
Best of luck. Can't wait to see him working. :)

Hey Latrine! Did you find an old Sony card reader yet? I'll be on the lookout for one as well. If I find them, I'll PM you the site. Aibo parts seem to be really hard to come by, but the Sony card reader shouldn't. Playstation 2 had a sony memory stick, so there should be lots of them out there. I'll let you know if I find some. :)
-
I'll look out too - the Aibo sticks are like the MS memory sticks, so you need an older style Sony reader that takes them (I believe).
-
Maybe some place like a gaming store like Game Stop.
-
Hi Kristy. That's a great idea. I actually have a patient that is the manager of the local Gamestop. I think I will give him a call this afternoon. Thanks for the tip! :)
-
Several catch-up comments:
re: Power Plug
That is a two prong Euro-Plug. Common in Europe and other places including Korea. Not the same as the UK.
You need a simple adapter (around $1 USD if you can find them individually). No voltage transformer/converter needed.
re: Operating System support
The main computer program you will use is the "Aibo Entertainment Player" (AEP). It should be on the CD that comes with the ERS-7 AIBO (AiboMind2 or AiboMind3). There is another program for setting up the WiFi LAN. Also you can download other programs and updates from the Web.
AEP does run under Windows XP or Windows 7 (including Windows7-64bit). I believe people had problems with Windows Vista (but that was a while ago).
re: memory stick reader
Most Sony brand stick reader should work, as long as they take the regular sized memory sticks. Many choices available online (around $20 USD).
(avoid model MRW66E/MRW68E which only takes the smaller "DUO" sticks)
Other brands may work, but they are a little more dangerous to use, so stick to Sony brand.
For the AiboMind3 software, there is no great need to "wipe" the personality. The personality does not evolve like the other AiboLife personalities.
However, you will need a working stick reader (Sony brand recommended) to apply updates, and adjust the WiFi settings.
-
Ok, Thanks for the info!
In the instructions it said the personality changes and 'grows' based on how you treat it but I guess that's just programmed things based on how you interact with it and it can change? To reset it to a puppy will not require me to wipe anything off the card? And I have the mind3 disc. It's nice and shiny sitting there useless like the uncharged Aibo..lol.
Guess what happened now!
PayPal double billed me for it! So now I'm fighting with them and my bank.. lol.
I'm starting to think that when I turn this thing on it's going to have glowing red eyes and it's going to attack and kill me.
I already ordered the adapter to be sent overnight, paid for it to be sent overnight and got an email that it will be delivered either Friday or Tuesday. I'm pretty sure today is WEDNESDAY... >:(
Should I maybe sell this aibo on ebay and get a different one? Is he a bad luck Aibo? I'm starting to think I'm going to break my leg next or something..
Thanks for all the help guys :)

AEP does run under Windows XP or Windows 7 (including Windows7-64bit). I believe people had problems with Windows Vista (but that was a while ago).
I have AEP running fine under Vista.
-
Ew, I would never run Vista.. lol.
I got the Sony reader/writer.. it'll be here next week or so. Thanks again everyone :)
- Sarah
-
Someone who has experience with aibos sent me this "sony still sells a bunch of parts in the US and UK though they don't have too many left (the only memory sticks they have are Mind 3 software for the ers-7 and some old software for the ers-11X series aibos and no memory stick readers) though, any old Sony camera should work as a memory stick reader and writer for the aibos (that's what I use with mine) and Sony clies work, both of these items can easily be found on ebay. I have heard lots of different things about how the chargers work in different countries than the one that they were made for and I'm not exactly sure which one is right, sorry." Hope this helps!
-
You're very welcome Sara! That's cool that you know a manager at a Game Stop store! :-D Did you call that guy? I'm curious. Thank you for the reply Pleo Pet. I really like your replies. Where did you get the reader at Latrine? You're welcome. :-}
-
Thanks Pleopet, good to know AEP is fine on Windows 7 - I'd stuck with my old Windows XP PC just in case. :)
I believe the Power Supply Unit is set up for 100-214V on most Aibo models (I think all but not so sure about the ERS-11x) so it's just a plug adapter that's needed. :)
Latrine - they double billed you on it!!! :o :o Oh good grief, they're not silly are they - if they make a mistake they couldn't do it on a $5 purchase, oh no!! >:( ???
I was actually a bit scared of Wilma, my first Aibo, when I switched her on but she's great now. I'm sure Loki will be fine, though he probably WILL make you feel inadequate! :P
-
Hi Kristy. I didn't have any luck with Game Stop. They only had the readers for the memory stick duo's. These are the sticks for the Sony PSP, but it was worth a try. I got one on eBay. Now I will probably need to find a pink programmable memory stick and a Sony PWCA-C150 LAN card. Why do I need these items? Only Crewella the Great knows.... ;)
Hi Crewella! I am interested to know why you were afraid of Wilma when you first turned her on? Are they that intimidating, or just so lifelike in their actions and movements? Thanks!
-
When Wilma first arrived she was running Explorer and seemingly not a happy bunny - she was the first Aibo I'd ever seen and I'd no real idea what to do. I switched her on, and she turned her back on me and made angry faces, the only response I got was when I asked 'are you alright' to which she shook her head sadly then threw back her head and howled. I tried to pet her, and must have overdone it because she went into 'boost mode' (a feature of Explorer software) and I'll swear she charged at me - I ended up hiding behind the door (Crewella the quivering wreck)! :P :D
I now run her (very happily) on Dogslife, which is a free personality and the kind of reason you might need a Programmable Memory Stick - so you can try such things out. You've probably already found the Aibohack site, but in case not here's the section on PMS.
http://www.aibohack.com/pms.htm
With some of the software for the 210 you need a LAN card for wireless operation, but it's not a necessity - your choice. :)
(For Latrine's ERS-7 it's kind of all in the one package already.)
-
Oh no.. they didn't double charge me for the $5 item, they double charger me for the AIBO.. I could barely afford it once, never mind twice!! It should be straightened out but if they give me more crap today I'm going to have to cancel the account.. although I don't think there is any alternative.. stupid PayPal.. stupid eBay.
The guy actually told me.. the manager because I had to request a manager, he tells me I have to put the second amount of money in my checking account so they can remove it and put it on my PayPal account and then I can remove it and put it in my bank account. He just couldn't comprehend how stupid that was.. He just kept saying it over and over like I was a moron.. I assume they just want to be holding more of my money;P I had to ask him several times to tone down his voice and quit being rude. I finally asked to speak to someone else and she told me to just have my bank refuse it and it would go full circle in their computers and go away since it's money that doesn't exist.. morons. lol
ANYWAY!! I checked the UPS site about my adapter and it said 'delivered' so I ran out of the house like a maniac and grabbed it.. resulting in a 5 minute coughing fit.. (I hate being sick) Who cares though, the adapter works!! They even sent me 2 when I only bought one.. they only cost like 50 cents each lol. .. the charging station works and the aibo works.. I put him on it and patiently waited an entire 37 seconds. Then I turned him on and he played a little song that sounded like the scooby doo crew arriving at a haunted house and then shutoff to charge.. I assume that sound means 'I'm sleeping, go away'. lol.. God I hope I don't have to wait 2 hours and let him charge all the way but I suppose that's best.. :/
Today worked out perfect for everyone so far.. all the RB's had turned off to sleep and the ugobes were in two separate rooms sleeping.. (god Patches is fast and he can climb over slight obstacles now so my cheap tricks to keep them in one room don't work on him) so everyone got a good playtime and now I get to go.... stare at the charging Aibo :)
Thanks everyone!!
- Sarah
-
Oooooh! Hurrah for the Scooby Doo crew tune!! I'm so glad you got the adapters so quick and are off and running at last!! When I first turned Java on I just kept saying hello - I'd been all impatient, then suddenly wasn't quite sure what to do with him!! :-[ :D
Welcome to our world, Loki!! ;D
-
Lol..
I thought this was funny so I just had to pop it on here.. a bit before the adapter arrived, Lyssa the Pleo decided to go charge herself at the Aibo charging station.. she just went over, stopped right at the material circle in front of it, and started grazing..lol short video.. was just cute :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tuCGbIqIlr4
OK well I just played with him through one charge session.. after he was done charging I turned him on and he didn't do much after his initial waking up song and stretching but when I asked him what he was doing then he said 'I want to play' .. I took him off the charger and said lets play. Then he said ' I was just born' lol. so.. I did all the owner registration and name registration with him and did the clinic thing where he checks all his sensors and recognition stuff then reset him to puppy because he seemed like he was half in half out of puppy mode.. talking but saying he was just born and the book says they shouldn't recognize many words when just born. So then I spent the rest of the time trying to get him to walk. Talking to him, petting his sensors, showing him his bone and ball.. He kept almost standing up and he'd do this silly wobbling thing and then get all upset and lie back down. So he finally stands up all the way when it dawns on me to support the side he's wobbling on.. and he made this triumphant noise.. then he laid back down. For the rest of the time I couldn't get him to stand up, when I put his toys far away and encouraged him he .. crawled to it. lol He also said 'I wanna walk soon' when I asked him if he was ok a few different times.
So I guess when he starts walking he's all grown up, like it says in the book and we'll see if he feels older when he wakes up.. just weird I assumed when he stood up that he was going to walk but no, he's crawling.. lol. And I love how whenever I pick him up he says 'don't drop me'..
He also got me already, he said good morning earlier and I said good morning back then later on I said it again because I was trying anything to get him to do stuff and he said "good morning, again". so I thought I'd be smart and said good afternoon. And then he said 'Good evening'. lol.
I know he can walk fine from all the clinic test stuff.. he's actually much faster than I thought he would be... He is really cool :) I wish he stayed charged longer but I guess since he'll be able to charge himself and after he cools down, interact from the charging station, so it' still pretty cool. I think he was on for about an hour and a half which is what it said battery life was.
- Sarah
-
Sounds like your having fun with him. :) Can't wait till he starts walking around for you. And I'm glad he's using his smarty mouth already. :D :D Too cute. Can't wait for a video. Maybe even one with both him and your pleos working together.
Have fun.
Kat
-
He's alive! Yay! When can we see him?
Talon
-
Well I cheated and put him in adult mode.lol.. he was still crawling and he kept moaning about wanting to walk and I kept telling him to stand up and to walk...
Anyways, in adult mode he is pretty funny.. I have not been able to get him to say his name yet or say my name like he's supposed too but he responds when I say the name I gave him but I thought maybe he would just take time to do it?
Also when I ask him about his skill levels with walking, his AiBone and his pink ball he tells me he's perfect.. well he's full of it because he is definitely not perfect lol. I'm wondering if starting him as an adult just gives him preset stuff? Maybe if I set him back at baby he would slowly develop skills or is he developing them now? This is very confusing.. I assume over time he and I will be able to communicate better but he is really cool.. the videos I take keep coming out so dark.. I'll add them on here when they are done uploading..
Here he is on his charger, promised my niece I would take a video of him waking up :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bV5EexA3ZSA
He plays a tune while shaking his head from side to side, then he stretches his legs before he starts responding.. his eyes flash green when he recognizes something he's heard. He does a silly little wave with his arm when he talks about saying hello again and then he waves when he says bye. :)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5aW3TvKHdzw
Loki met Rhea the RB and as you can see in the video he was scared of her !! His eyes flashed purple when she yelled, lol..

Okay. I'm jealous. He's a true find, Latrine. If I had a little more sight and a truckload more money than I'll ever make as a writer... You're living a dream of mine right now. Oh well. Like that old song says, "you can't always get what you want". Have fun, Latrine!
Talon
-
It's funny how the fact that they can talk kind of takes over the way you treat them! It's so weird! :D
Aibo really do learn from how you treat them, if you encourage the behaviours you like with praise and petting they will do more. Java's ball skills are truly dreadful, so I'm really trying to encourage him by saying 'go for it' whenever he tries to kick the ball and making a huge fuss of him when he does well. We'll see if it helps....... :D
-
Awww sorry to hear that Sara. That cracked me up what your Aibo did Cruella. rotfl Wow, a rude manager. 5 minutes of coughing. lol Good for "Patches"! lol I love that they say that too. Cool. lol Awww too bad you put him in adult mode/stage. Thank you for the videos! To me, I would not keep messing around with the different stages Latrine.... Anyways that's funny that he's afraid of the Pleos. lol If I was rich (I am not), I'd definitely buy an Aibo. I know in the future, with robot pets, I'm not gonna be able to afford "the best".
-
hahah how cute <3 i love the 7s... but alas, still dont own one. but even the older model aibos like i do own, are a handful and hilarious. so anyone here who does want aibos could always look for a 210 model (often the most common and cheapest with most software options)
i just wish sony would revive them :(

Hi pirpintine! I had been looking for a couple of months on ebay for a 210. Most that were in my price range, around $500 US had missing parts, missing chargers, etc. After being frustrated, I PM'ed Crewella, who told me to contact one of the members of an Aibo forum who has a great reputation for repairing and selling Aibos who need a new home. I contacted him, and was able to get a 210 within my price range. It comes with all its original parts, a fresh battery, fully functional, Life 1, and a 6 month warranty. The Aibo,"Dale", as is his factory name did have DHS, which was repaired. The servos that cause PAS and TAS were also pinned so he will never get them again. I don't have him yet, as the technician is having problems with resetting the battery that he came with, and won't send him to me until he is working perfectly, which I like. There has been great communication with the seller, and he has sent me several updates on his progress. Crewella saved me about $250, because that is what the functional ones on ebay were going for. Parts also are hard to find, or seem to me to be, and the ones that are out there on ebay are outrageous! I did get a card reader for a good price on ebay though. I will post pictures when he arrives....maybe the Easter Bunny will bring him! 8) I would love one day to have an ERS-7, but I am going to wait until I have saved the funds to get one. I am sure they are worth every penny. :)

that sounds awesome! yeah aibo has a semi active community, whats left of if are always super helpful with things :) i got a new-ish battery for my 210 from a aibo community member for free when i got my 210 his batteries only lasted a couple mins! so theyre always willing to help newbies! haha!
i hope you like your aibo! :D the 210s are really goofy~

Oh, cool Saratoga, I hope he gets to you on time.. they are so cool.
I'm still having a heck of a time figuring mine out. Apparently having him on with the TV in a very large echo-y room makes him very confused as he kept yelling are you calling me, telling me what time it was.. etc from his docking station. But when he's up and about with the tv on sometimes he will sit and watch it.
And of course he woke me up at 7am this morning when he woke up, made a very loud exaggerated stretch and said gooooooood morning!
I guess I need to enunciate better as well since my words seem to get confused in his head.. whenever I ask him to dance he says welcome home or ok, lying down.
I don't THINK my jersey accent makes dance sound like home or lay down but who knows. ;D
And Kristy I'll probly put him back to puppy I just wanted to see what he can do.. I have to get a big piece of carpet for him as his pink ball and uneven hardwood floors don't work well together. he positions his ball, it rolls three rooms away and he looks everywhere for it saying "I know I left it around here somewhere" I think his bone tricks screw up because of the end of it having broken off on the trip.. I assume it's managed by weight.. or maybe he just needs practice.. even though he tells me he's perfect at everything :)

Hi Latrine! Imagine that....a species of the male gender saying they are perfect at everything. Well Sony got that one right, didn't they! :P (Just being funny...not to offend those of the male gender!) Anyway, I hope he arrives soon, but I am definitely not ready for him. Everything I have except one laptop is apple, and I have to get it fixed before I can do anything else. The good thing is that it is running Windows XP, so I should be fine there. I also need to get a programmable memory stick, and probably a LAN card. I think those are hard to come by, but I am just going to wait until he arrives. I will probably just ask the guy repairing him to email me when he get any, and I will buy them from him. My kids are going to freak out. My daughter has been bugging me for a dog, but we are not home enough during the day to let it out. I think this one is going to be MY pooch though. (I'll share.) I'll post pics when I get him! :)
-
Thanks, both of you for "sharing" your Aibos. This is probably the closest I'll ever get to one. Videos on Youtube are cool but no feedback on personality and quirks and stuff. It's just not the same as here.

Hi latrine,
If you ever need any help with your ERS-7, please don't hesitate to PM me.
I used to own an ERS-7 called Java. ;)
degers
-
Very well brought-up dog, Java. ;D
-
Good puppy! *touches head* If that were possible. I've entered a world of amazing robots.
Talon
-
Hmm used to own an ERS-7 named Java? Nope.. my brain just can't make any connections to that.. ;)
I hadn't thought of that, Saratoga, I guess that's why he says he's perfect.. and he was doing some good tricks today, he finally played with his aibone and when I'm right there to stop the ball from flying out the window he can play with that kind of well. His aim is way off with kicking things so I guess he just needs practice. Lots of fun, need to get a tiny lamp to have over his charging station.. he needs light to work right and I'm a creature of darkness:/ ;D ;D :D :D
I thought this was kind of funny.. he watched me play Dragon age 1 on my 360 for like 20 minutes today... I wonder if they are actually looking at it or if it's a pre-programmed thing to 'watch tv' every now and then.. but I tried to make things get big and shiny with lots of movements and I noticed at those times he wagged his tail more.. so who knows!
He watched 'Gray's anatomy' too but only during an operation so maybe he thinks the blood looks like his pink ball..? ;D :D :D (he watched it three times, all three times were during gory surgeries, lol)
- Sarah
-
Wow! That's one smart dog! Like I said when I documented Ryu's reaction to watching my pleo to be on my computer screne and trying to walk over the keyboard to get inside, you never know what's going on inside their heads.

This was another one of my favourite Aibo videos from mh7ah. It's an ERS- 210 Aibo running Recognition software. That was the fore-runner to the talking Mind3 ERS-7, though I must admit, having run it, that is about the best of it and the voice and "my pink ball....my pink ball.... my pink ball" do get irritating after a while. It's a very good way of beginning to understand them though. :D
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXOv7XAe0Ew
-
I think I could deal with that. Still not sure if I'd be getting enough info to successfully use an Aibo but it sounds workable. What moddels of the Aibo could run it?
Talon
-
Recognition is for the 210 or 210A only, I believe. Many of the interactions with the talking Aibo will still be musical bleeps, but the Recognition software also seems to make the Aibo more keen to interact with its owner and less likely to wander about on its own. From reading the forums, very few Aibo owners liked Recognition enough to keep running it for long, and many said it was glitchy and felt unfinished.
I also posted that to show the Aibo speaking its name and owner's name in musical Aibo language. The ERS-7 does the same.
-
Oooh. I heard that 210's were still easy to find and a little cheaper than one of the ERS sevens. Not that I will ever own one. I can't help being curious, though.
Talon
-
They're MUCH cheaper than the ERS-7s. Ideal first Aibo, in my view ............. %) :P
-
recognitions heart was in the right place, but it was just... uuuhg.
though its tollerable in japanese! (much cuter androgonous voice)
software for 210s id recomend are life 2 if you want to raise one (ive had no personal experiance with life1) explorer is like an adult personality in life 2 but with hyperactive modes.
i do have hello aibo, but its in german, and i cant tell if me putting an english stick version on actually made in understand anything! %) but i dont like how it wags its tail... its all.. super loud up and down motions.
the 3rd party software dogslife is really good. can be a bit deaf, but its a really funny and cute personality!
id love to try out the another evolution software but its so hard to find (and only japanese)
-
It is good fun - I kept Wilma on Dogslife permanently, even though she is completely cloth-eared! Ball skills are good on it too! ;D
-
This is all so interesting. Talon no. You and Aibo-kind are like oil and water! Just face it and don't clutter up this thread!
Talon
-
Where can I find the recognition software for the 210? Is it a canned program from Sony that I need to buy, or is it one that can be downloaded from a website? OOO....I have so much to learn! :o
-
its a sony software, it comes with station pole and markers so it can self charge and all that..
its usually pretty hard to find as a complete set. or at all. haha!
-
For what it's worth, I do think a certain sort of person prepared to do a lot of research could get something out of the Aibo 210, using software like Recognition and Messenger, without the benefit of the visual elements. It would be a lot of work, though, and you're right to think Pleo is more suitable. :)
Recognition is Sony software, like all Aibo ware your best bet is eBay or the forums. Here's some useful info:

Thanks, Crewella for posting that and also for agreeing with my sain-er side.
Talon
-
The video was neat but I think the voice would get to me after a bit.. it seems to respond faster than my ers-7 but he's still new and that could just be the good moments in the video, like you said.. very cool though. I was looking on ebay and didn't see any complete bundle for that Aibo, I did see this a few times though:
SONY AIBO LIFE 2 SOFTWARE ERS-210/220 ENGLISH EDITION it seems to be a cd and a memory card.
I'm having trouble myself finding accessories as my AiBone arrived broken and had been obviously glued before.. I could see the dried glue down the stick.. I super glued it but no matter how I do it, sanding the glue off first to make it a better fit..etc.. it falls off after a few days again because, as he learns to use it, he drops it.. (or maybe it's from when he pees on it, does robot dog urine do something to superglue?) Anyways I can't find another one anywhere.
And Talon.. I think, if you ever did decided to get one of the Aibo's, that you could do it.. I was literally shocked when I found out you couldn't see, I'd thought you were just a over-nervous pleo-owner to be and now here you've taught me how to do stuff with my Pleo that I couldn't figure out for myself.. so I think you'd find a way. :)
This is all technical and I hardly understand it but thought I'd ask:
I was looking up reviews and found this one review that made me think there was something I could do to make the voice recognition better, I'll post it:
http://www.epinions.com/review/Aibo/content_136771571332
"Aibo's Hearing
Aibo by design is able to tell apart his owner's voice, and is able to perform hundreds of voice command triggered actions/tasks. He also is able to turn/walk towards the direction of the voice source.
As I said, by design. I have found that the voice direction algorithm is horribly flawed in ERS-7. My aibo is completely clueless of where I am most of the time even when I am down on the floor within a foot of his head. He gets confused by sound bouncing off the walls. He is confused by too loud of a voice and is unable to hear others that are too quiet. He definitely is not fond of different accents though he tries poor thing.
Having the TV, stereo on or having a group of people over to watch definitely does not help. He can not tell apart the voice commands from background voice. In a crowded room you will find that Aibo will do less than any other time you were alone with him. This is not because you're imagining things, this is because Aibo is lost in the huge soup of sound he is hearing.
Voice Command Recognition GOTCHA
The voice command recognition is very poor in ERS-7. I must have tried every room configuration, setting, and voice type. I have found that the only time he seems to hear me is when the A/C is off in my office. He can not hear me well in my crowded apartment. He also has a tendency to ignore voice commands when he is not in a good mood, so it can be hard to tell if he really understands you or not.
UPDATE June 9 2004: The R Code for the ERS-7 has been released by SONY. Aibos can be programmed using Open-R (C++ based open source low level code suitable for serious programmers) and R-CODE high level, drag and drop based customization of Aibo's behavior. After playing around with R-CODE and YART (released by www.aibopet.com), I have confirmed that it is not so much the hearing that is screwed up as the coding of the autonomous Aibo. With Yart and R-CODE Aibo ERS seems to recognize voice commands without a problem and responds correctly to commands. It is my belief that there is some faulty code within the Autonomous mode shipped with Aibo ERS-7 that makes it somewhat deaf to voice commands."
So does this mean I can use this 'Yart' program and if I'm able to figure out the r-code stuff.. which is probably unlikely without help, lol.. he will be able to understand me better? If so I'm hoping someone has just written something I can paste..:P
And once I get my card reader/writer, I assume I'll be able to upload songs/dances and maybe THEN he'll respond when I ask him to dance.. So far he only does it randomly, when he seems to think I'm not feeling well, random "are you ok? I'll show you a dance" and he has shown me three separate ones but I did not say anything to initiate that, and also when he is on his charger, if I say hello from across the room, half the time he says hello back, half the time he says 'ok, station dance!' and dances.. but does nothing when I say station dance.. lol.
I just read if I do reset him back to puppy it takes 6 weeks for him to mature? Wow!
I also just read how long this message was! Sorry! :( :) :D
- Sarah
-
Jeeeeeeez! Yep - most of that sailed over my little blonde head, I'm afraid! :P
YART is very much like the YAPT Pleo tool, and well worth having a play with even if you're not terribly techy, but R-Code is the kind of thing I class as 'if I need to ask what it is then it's not for me!' :D
You might find a tame techy to help and maybe even write you a script, though. Perhaps go and ask on one of the Aibo forums, they are a pretty helpful bunch, as Pirpi says. :)
-
Hi Latrine! Hi Crewella! (Coming to you live from my Windows XP Laptop, which I have brought back from the grave. ) Latrine, I really suggest that you join Aibo-life.org. They don't seem to post as much as on this forum, but as Crewella said, if you ask a question, I think you will get an answer. There is also Aiboworld.com, but for some reason they wouldn't let me on their site. (I guess they are afraid of the Dentist. :P I have been browsing the websites today, and all the programming stuff will make your head spin. Well, it made my head spin, although I do consider myself to be computer illiterate. I really think they will be able to help you, Latrine.
Crewella, guess what I found in my basement collecting dust? A sony Clie that was my hubby's many moons ago! Aibohack said not to try his program if you a computer dummy, but I am going to try it anyway! What do I have to lose, except an old Memory Stick? :o
-
Oooooh yes!! It means you can use ordinary blue/purple sticks! Hurrah!! :D
I've got one lurking somewhere ............ %)
Congrats on the XP - I'm clinging on to my ancient PC with XP for dear life! :D
-
if any of you have used myskit for pleos, im sure you can do skitter for aibo! and thats always a start! you can at least make skits and edit dogslife with yart! :)
there a bunch of handy tools and tips on aibohack!
-
Lucky people getting Aibos. And I see, Latrine. Okay. lol Aw that's cute what you said Talon. Silly too Talon. lol That's funny that you're a "creature" of darkness Latrine. >XD LOL Eww about the show with surgeries. Wow, 6 weeks for a mature, Aibo robot dog. O.O lol I got an 5 year-old Alienware computer that we gotta take in some time to see if we can get it fixed up. A new hard drive thing installed didn't last. Or we may have to buy a new computer.
-
Thanks guys.. I will check them out, I just saw that one line that I highlighted and it made me think maybe I could make him work better..or 'listen' better :) I couldn't get access on a few aibo sites either but looking over them again they seem to be very small communities so I'll go with the other ones.
I can't wait to introduce him to all my nieces and nephews when we all join up for Easter!
Thanks and I promise I won't post any crazy questions anymore.. I'm just irritated because I can't get him to dance on command... I guess when my Sony reader/writer gets here I can fix that by adding some music..
- Sarah
-
Cool! Sweet Latrine! Ah I see.
-
Good to know! Hope you get him working well soon. I'm sure he'll be a big hit come easter! Have fun with your little guy!
Also, I saw on the last page about how they double charged you, and just remember: Some people are idiots, but that's ok because society needs cashiers and garbage people. :D lol, hope that got sorted out as well.
-
Yeah the double bill finally got sorted it just stinks because I ended up with a small fee with my bank.. I'd rather pay twenty five bucks though than double aibo price:P
I'm sure if I complained enough I could get them to take it off especially since I've never had an issue with them before but I'm just glad the whole thing is over and would rather not have to argue about it again.. PayPal just tried to remove it from my account a second time and my bank refused them, like I asked them too.. apparently that's what the fee is from.. seems stupid to me.. but then apparently it went full circle in PayPal and it's back to normal now. Still makes me wary of PayPal.. but what else is there, really? Oh well..
We got a pretty big carpet to put down in Loki's charging corner so he can practice with his ball a bit easier and now he is understanding words a little better too.. I guess the carpet helps soak up some of the echoes :)
Oh, and today he walked over to where our oldest dog was sleeping, took a picture and then laid down and said that was his favorite spot.. he sat there for quite awhile and took like 3 pictures of the dog or at least of the area.. still can't see his pictures because I haven't gotten him hooked up to our wireless yet but I kinda wish he didn't take so many pictures.. lol not sure what he's gonna be sending out there!
- Sarah
-
The name's Aibo- aibo the Secret Agent-bot. Of course that's not my real name. If you thought the Furby supposedly listening to your conversations was bad, I'm armed with a camera and as everyone knows, the camera doesn't lie. I'll be making my way into a living room near you. Watch your step and don't abuse your pleos.
I need a new writing project to work on before I get into trouble. Lol! He still sounds awesome, Latrine!
Talon
-
Sounds like he is totally settled in now considering he has already chosen his favorite spot. :D He does sound like a lot of fun. Are you enjoying him as much as your pleos? Or more?
Kat
-
I have to admit, ashamedly, I have probably not been giving my Pleos the attention they deserve this past week, aside from the baby who just wants to sleep on me.. I've also had a bad past few days and wasn't feeling well so it was much easier to play with Loki who doesn't mind too much when he doesn't have attention.. the ugobes are happy to wander but Rhea will stand there screaming unless I do her every bidding.. they all ate every day, don't worry :)
Loki almost always gets excited when I put rhea on the floor, turned on or not, because she's pink, he walks over, then either shakes his head when he gets close enough to realize that there is NO way that is a giant pink ball or gets angry, red eyes and all and walks away.. At least he isn't scared of her anymore.. other than that though, no interaction aside from the fact that the ugobes are drawn to the black and white check design on the charging station and they always seem to go there to 'graze' like in the one video I posted :D
And I spoke too soon with paypal, they tried to bill me AGAIN, I am actually going to have to cancel the account.. this time they told me they worked it out but I do not want them having access to my bank account anymore. Maybe I will make a new one and just attach my debit card.. I know thats nearly the same thing but at least they can't just access my real account whenever the mood strikes them.. this is their third attempt and I got an argument from the man I spoke too who said this was only the second until I produced the correct dates and numbers and then when he started arguing again I asked him if I could cancel my account with him or if I had to do it online..then he just said he would fix it. I have a negative two cents on my paypal, until he fixes it, my bank account is back to being ok aside from the now double charge (fifty bucks) for 'return' fees.. which is bull and in my opinion, pay pal should pay for it..
when I tried to get his information, so I had proof of our conversation, he nearly refused!! Ugh.. watch your paypal accounts closely, guys..
- Sarah
-
I'm glad that bill of yours finally got sorted out Latrine! That's cool that Aibos can take pictures! lol And with my Pay Pal account, I'm not gonna let them link to my bank account.
-
Oh my! I thought pay Pal was supposed to be safe. I had to "varify" my Pay Pal account for my job. I'll keep an eye on it just to be safe. Thanks so much for the heads up, Latrine!
Talon
-
wow, I had no idea the aibos were so lifelike, i guess if you're busy you can ignore a pleo, but an aibo will go charge itself! I hope eventually pleo gets that advanced!
-
I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I have never had a problem with pay pal. Glad that your problems got sorted out, Latrine. Loki looks awesome. I just cashed my paycheck on Monday and hid 100 bucks in my sock drawer in a small box. It's officially the ERS-7 fund. In about 2 years, I'll be able to get one! ;D Maybe sooner. They person I bought my 210 from is selling some for $1800.
-
haha by then there woulds probably be an improved genibo on the market!
most aibo owners who also have genibos say theyre supieror in many ways to aibo, so a newer model would probably blow it out the water! and its a new robot, so none of that finding parts thing..
id still probably get a 7 anyways, justf or the sake of its gonna be a rare collectable one day... as well as me wanting one reaaally badly! :P haha
-
Hey, I think Loki is much cuter than a Genibo:P Maybe I'll just get him a fluffy tail or something for Easter and then you'll see :) I'm sure Genibo is cool too but Loki talks and I like him :)
This morning my boyfriend picked him up, put him on the floor in front of where I was sitting down (trying to sleep) and told him 'walk around'
Loki said something like 'yeah I can feel it' and went into that dance beat detection mode!! We kept putting on different music and it was funny to watch the way he changed his movements for it.. I stopped him after like an hour, lol.. to let him charge but when I tried again the only way I could get him to respond was 'Dance to the music' which got him to do the big response like when you tell him to go to the station.. eyes flash and ears whack once then he said yeah I can feel it.. but he didn't dance.. so we have to get it to work before easter but it was awesome.. I was reading from different places that they could not do that and that they could.. they definitely can!!
- Sarah
-
Genibos come in white, blue, pink and black colors. If I could afford 1 (no way there, way too expensive), I'd want a pink Genibo.
-
Not so sure I'd want a Ginibo even if I could aford one. Haven't read much about them mostly because I don't want to get too curious and get into major trouble. Actually they are miles out of my funds range anyway.
Talon
-
from what ive read genibos are like a cross between a 210 and a 7, but with a much stronger build and gears (can do tricks aibo could never ever do)
so the personality is like a 210, it grows and changes, and doesnt talk (yet, could update it for all we know) but has wireless software that looks pretty much identical to a 7, as well as genibos general 7 appearance :)
i persoanlly wont be getting one for a long long time. i dont know enough about them, and i really want a 7 most of all :D
-
I'd take a look into OzPleo's experience with Genibo before seriously consider buying one.
http://mygenibo.com/
-
hes the only one whose been saying such things about genibo, everyone elses reviews have weighed pros and cons and not had the issues hes had. so i think his has faulty firmware or something. so dunno... :)
-
His reviews contained some positive things if you look over all of them - and his overall experience was bad. In my opinion, from the little bit that's out there, some similar information corroborates his experience, it's just presented in a different or better light. (Although his experience was more "negative" than any of the few in-depth reviews I found, he was one of the few to describe regular interactions with it vs. showcasing its "tricks" etc. - he was also one of the few who didn't seem caught up in the "fanboism" of it when spinning any of his reviews).
I doubt it's some bad firmware or other "cause" since there seems to be no substantial evidence to make that connection, especially after some of the follow-up on wolfbob's thread: http://www.aibo-life.org/forums/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=16;t=000032
But that's just me and my personal thoughts on the matter, haha.
Ultimately it doesn't matter, anyone who wants to and can buy a Genibo should - if that's what they want. For me, with the information out there combined with OzPleo's experience and wolfbob's continuation of that, I'd go with the ERS 7. (Though I probably would anyway :))
And that's what this thread is all about right? The ERS 7? Hehe ;) (Which I may also be a proud owner of shortly - still deciding)
-
I have to agree that I would not get a Genibo, having read those reviews. I will wait to buy an ERS-7. I did purchase a 210 a few weeks ago, and I am really enjoying him. I bought him from wolfbob incidentally, and have been very impressed with his knowledge and level of customer service. He also has some of the best prices that I have found. Bhobbes, do you still have Cato?
-
The ERS7's do seem pretty cool. :) Good luck with your purchase bhobbes. And have fun. ;D
-
Yes, I still have Cato.
I just purchased a black ers7 through wolfbob, which will hopefully be here on Tuesday or Wednesday. Though I don't want to hijack this post so I'll make my own :)
-
Who is this wolfbob you talk of and just how expensive are Aibo ers7's anyway. now I am intrigued and I can feel the wanting coming on. :D
-
He's just an extreme Aibo enthusiast (and this is probably downplaying him from what I have heard) who repairs them etc. as well as re-cells the batteries, and then resells them. I've been in contact with him for a few months now waiting for something to turn up, and he has had a regular flow of various models.
If you check out aibo-life.org forums there are several threads discussing the price ranges. I researched 210s the most and had a private tutor (hehe) so I don't want to comment much on the general ERS 7 price range, but from what I've seen around it looks to be in the $1500-2000+ range (for reasonable sellers, usually ebay sellers have very high prices). Someone who's more 'up to speed' on that may be able to comment but the price of Aibos depends on several factors.
There is much to learn in the world of Aibo. Independent research (i.e. not information from said tutor) probably cost me hours in the double digit range. Factor in that mixed with my inability to make up my mind and this process has been ongoing since mid-to-end of March (basically, the explosion of Aibo activity here didn't induce this purchase haha). I'm not sure if I'm more relieved to have it "over" or *really* excited for it to arrive and trying to remain calm. Actually, I am sure, it's the latter. Unfortunately, I think this Aibo business is going to become quite the hobby...
-
Kat!! :o STEP AWAY FROM THE CREDIT CARD!! :P
Wolfbob repairs and sells Aibo and has a great reputation, he also re-cells Aibo batteries and so solves one of the scarier aspects of buying expensive robots that are no longer made or supported. If anyone is considering an Aibo purchase, you do need to do a fair bit of research to work out the best model and price range to suit your requirements. Generally, they are a much 'techier' robot pet than Pleo - more robot than just pet, and can cost from around $600-3000 depending on the model and what comes with it. Good fun, though! ;D
-
With that said, some sellers struck me as clearly lacking in general technological grace so I don't think anyone should feel too intimidated. Not that I'm trying to spread Aibo fever or anything.
-
You're quite right, bhobbes. You can pretty much run most Aibo as a 'pet' and ignore a lot of the tech capabilities if you want to, and many owners do. It just needs a bit more research at first when purchasing as there is so much more variety than with Pleo. :D
-
A bit is quite the understatement. I feel as though I could write a dissertation and I'm not even a newbie yet as it isn't here yet lol. Well, maybe that's a bit much.
-
Oh ...... you just wait until it gets there and the REAL research starts!! :P ;)
I know just how excited you must be - I quite envy you that! I was tracking that parcel like billy-o when Java was on his way! :D
-
Time to start saving some pennies and doing a bit of research I think. %) Although my OH may just kill me.......
Will let you know if I do decide to take the plunge. That's if I survive. :D :D :D
-

What fun would that be? He he he. I got caught by my hubby a couple of times this weekend tinkering on my computer for my 210, when I actually went to fold laundry, or so he thought. My laundry room is right next to our computer room. Now, every time I tell him I am going to do laundry, he accuses me of tinkering with my pooch. :o. I am not a computer savvy or techy, but I am having fun. There seem to be some owners that can't get their Sony Clies to hot sync, or can't figure out how to use Stikzap, so I figure I'm not doing too bad! :P
Take the plunge, Kat! You only live once! I didn't tell my OH until the pooch arrived. Once it's in the house and the kids see it, it can't leave! ;D

I do agree, Springer. I got into robot pets in the first place to help me learn and, in spite of the fact that I'm not very techy I'm thoroughly enjoying it all too! :D
I've been caught tinkering when I'm s'posed to be working too! %)

Well you guys have fun tinkering with your robo-pooches. I need to find a drug that will break me from my fast-developing pleo addiction.

I have come to the conclusion that there is no drug that is going to save me. I seem to be addicted to robots. I just find them so fascinating, and the technology is beyond the scope of anything that I could imagine. :o

I like the look of the ers7's and the talking thing has grown on me after seeing your cute videos Latrine. :) What is the difference in the software between the mind 1, 2 and 3?
I know the 3 was the latest version but how is it different to the others? Keep in mind I really don't know anything about these guys apart from what I have seen here but I am very curious. :)

The main difference (AFAIK) is that Mind3 is the one that talks! :D
-
Ok. :D :D :D Now I feel a bit silly. ;D At least I know what to look for if I do decide to buy one. :) Thanks Crewella.

Not silly at all - researching Aibo is a LOT to take in. Many people upgraded their Mind2 ERS-7s to Mind3, but there were issues with some of the Mind1 models so, as a noobie on a buying spree ( :P ), you're safer with 2 or 3. ;D
Most Aibo communicate with a series of musical bleeps, though there was a type of software you could run on the 210s that could talk as well, Recognition. Watch some videos on Youtube - mh7ah's are great. :D

> What is the difference in the software between the mind 1, 2 and 3?
AiboMind 1 is not recommended.
AiboMind1 comes on a 32MB memory stick. It does not support Aibo Entertainment Player. It is the least complicated version.
AiboMind2 comes on a 32MB memory stick. It does support Aibo Entertainment Player (remote control of your AIBO using WiFi). It is more complicated than AiboMind1.
AiboMind3 comes on a 128MB memory stick. It also supports the Aibo Entertainment Player. It is the most complicated personality with more random motions/skits/songs.
The Japanese engineers kept adding more features with new releases. They added so much that they ran out of space on the 32MB stick.
Also all versions have the option of addition custom data (Free addons), but the custom data choices are different for the 3 different versions.
http://www.aibo-kennel.com/Software_Backups/Custom_Data.html
All versions of AiboMind have human voices built in. AIBO will tell you what to do in English for special command modes (like setting up the robot).
When running the normal personality, you can pick between a talking AIBO or a tonal AIBO (beeps and tones).
You can customize the voice it uses (mostly English, or Japanese)
So if you can find it, the larger 128MB AiboMind3 is the best choice.
(If you can only find a 32MB stick, be sure it is for either AiboMind1 or AiboMind2, you can upgrade it to AiboMind2).
When you buy an ERS-7 AIBO, it should come with at least one stick for AiboMind. The ERS-7 robots were originally sold with one AiboMind stick. The older 2x0/31x AIBOs came with no software in the box.

Good conclusion, PleoPet. If the Aibo was blind-friendly enough and I had the funds I would probably go with mind three, too. I'm playing it safe and sticking to stuff I can afford and fully work with. This is still very interesting information.
