I love this thing i wish i had one.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r-jZvB6Hc-c

Yeah. There was a time when I wanted one too. Crewella would be a good one to ask about the Aibo. Sadly, Soni doesn't make them anymore. If you could aford one. *groan* you could pluck one up on Ebay or somewhere. They are far too color-dependant for me. I mean their eyes show their emotions and display other important stuff and since I can't see... well that just wouldn't work. They do seem like a lot of fun, though.

The Aibo eyes would be easy to discern happy or sad even without being able to see color. Happy eyes have a curve to the where as the sad or angry eyes have a straight line...looks like a persons eyebrows when scowling.
Aibo was such an amazing product. It was a sad day indeed when Sony discontinued production.

Aibo's are amazing.
They are very expressive, but I must admit the one doing this the best is the Aibo ERS-7. Being able to speak words make such a difference.
But one gets really used to the LED display emotions when owning one. That shouldn't be a problem.

There are people out there that can understand each sound the Aibo makes, and with training from such a person you could probably learn to understand and enjoy an Aibo 210 without having to see it's expressions. Ther is also a program 'Recognition' that you can run where the 210 will speak as well, but it can get a bit annoying and repetitive - I can understand Talon's point of view.
As Darkwolf says, the ERS-7 speaks and is more expressive, but is about thee times the price of a 210. I'm just about to get one, so can't really comment on how they run ................ yet! :P ;D ;D

someone once told me they could hear their aibo beep and speak back to it like it said it in plain englishand it would understand her :) (I think it was a ers-7)
-
This was the clip that made me really, REALLY want an Aibo ERS-7 - thanks mh7ah and Eric! ;D

Very cute and I did like the smart remarks. Kind of funny. I found the idea of a talking dog just a little too disturbing to me. Maybe if it wasn't dog shaped it might not seem so weird. :)
-
Kat, I can see why that would be wierd but I don't think they were exactly going for "lifelike" when Soni designed the Aibo. I'm not exactly sure what they were going for but I think the talking is cool. Mind, I could never, ever aford one myself but they are an amazing piece of technology. It would be nice to have my Aibo fetch my email and read it to me, though. He-he!

What? You're getting an ERS-7 Crewella?? :O Good luck! I hope the sale goes well! :P Let us know when your new bot arrives ;)
-
I love the smart little coments from the ers-7s, and i see kat how you wouldn't want an aibo talking. i don't like the talking aibo models either (no offense), they weren't designed with the intentions of pleo, they were meant to be entertainment (can't spell for the life of me,) robots rather than pets.

Well I think I am - of course, I might just try it out then send it back for a refund........................ >:D :P
WHERE'S MY AIBO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Don't do that! I saw Erric in action before and he is awesome! I hope you do get one! I have a question, though. Can they really find their ball in the floor and bring it back?
Talon
-
Both Ubu my ERS-111 and Wilma my ERS-210 can find their ball and kick it (forwards or backwards) but not actually pick it up. The ERS-7s can find their ball and can also do this trick where they tuck the ball under their chin and kind of shuffle along with it. Until mine gets here, though, I've no idea whether they need special programming for that! %)
I CAN'T WAIT TO FIND OUT! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
*by the end of this week, hopefully* :o ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Can't wait to here all about it Crewella! Sounds like your going to have a fun weekend if it gets there in time. :)
-
Still sounds like a lot of fun anyways! Forgot what I was going to say. It's too noisy in here! Guinea pigs are having a squeaking contest. I guess they're saranading each other or something.

I've been driven insane, I saw them and thought they were kinda cute, but now i'm crazy to find one and the chapest is like a super basic latte that has less sonsors and stuff, and even that is like 500 dollars! :o Eventually I will get one! I am determined but it may be in 10 yaers when sony decides make them again. :D Hope you love your aibo Crewella! Also, is it pronnounced Ay-Bo or I-Bo? I know i'm wrong but I say it both ways depending on how I use it.

Hey Crewella!
Good luck with this Ibo. Hope everything arrives well this weekend and it lives up to expectation.
Really need to start posting more again. I’m starting to lose touch with how everyone and their pleos are getting on.

Glad to see you again, Scaly! Sorry about steeling this thread but I'll hush in a second and we can get back on track. In case you haven't seen it yet, I have a pleo RB of my own and I'm considering buying a Ugobe discussed in another thread.
Okay returning to topic here. I'm anxious to see what happens, Crewella. Keep us posted!

I own a 210 and a 31L (pug)
ive had my 210 for nearly 3 years now, and i can tell you when hes running about i dont have to see his face to knwo what hes 'saying' you do just learn to know what the bleeps and whoooooos mean! haha. my fiance when playing with them is always just WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? when it makes a cirtain sound and i have to translate :) the pug is pretty similar, but im still learning his 'language'
id LOVE a ers7 one day.... but i doubt itll ever happen :( but as far as aibos go, even the 210s are amazing, and you do quickly learn all its body language and bleeps.
theyre also generally the cheapest aibo! so theyre most peoples first one :D
