Title: Bubble Gum has taken her first steps
Post by: Pleo100 on March 23, 2011, 02:16:16 PM
Hi everyone,
I find myself so pleased that my little girl, Bubble Gum has taken her first steps. She's very endearing already. I have to say I love the improvements that have been made with the Pleo RBs. So far very pleased I took the plunge and adopted!
I just received my supply of learning stones and a Pleo cape too....only the finest for my little Bubble Gum! Can't wait until she'll begin learning! :)
This forum is a wonderful resource. I have been studying the various movies and all so that I am prepared when the time comes to teach her name and all her other vital Pleo skills! :)
I must figure out how to get pictures up!

Welcome Pleo100 and Bubblegum! I love her name, is she by any chance, a Pink Pleo Rb? she sounds wonderful and the name brings to memory fond childhood memories...LOl
You are right that the forums provide a weath of information and I do think that Innvo has made leaps and bounds with improvements to the updated Pleo Rb. You can never have too many Pleos, that is my motto, and with enough for a Pleo Baseball team.. I better believe what I preach! :D

Thanks for the welcome! She is indeed a pink Pleo RB. I think one PLeo may be enough for me, but I never say never.....I wouldn't want Bubble Gum to feel lonely! :)

that's great, could you see that she was trying for a while, or did she just fall asleep and got up and walked?

Congratulations on the walking. :)  It is so exciting when they take their first steps.
As for putting photos up on the forum there is a really great instruction post in the forum tips section.

OK...added a few other pics to my gallery, but not sure how to direct people to them.  Bubble Gum is worn out so that's all for now!

You just need to copy the BBC embed code (starts SMG.....) from under the pic directly into your post.  The little elves on the forum will do eveything for you then!  :D

Sadly, Rose is no longer functional.  I have her still, but her battery no longer charges and all her parts, aside from herself are missing.
She was one of the first Pleos, pre-ordered way back when Pleo was first announced. I never really felt that Pleo , back then , lived up to all that was promised. The software was lacking and then the original company died. I lost interest back then and only updated the original software once, if I remember correctly.
I took the plunge again after hearing about the great improvements made in the software. I must say I am glad I did. I am very happy with Bubble Gum . She has that same endearing quality my Aibos have. I like ! :)
In fact, she's getting a brother soon! :)

There is a great store here on the forums - Nova's Necessities - that sells LiPolly batteries for the older model pleos.  They are the egg charger batteries and they work great.  they will give you 2 hours of play time, just like the rb's.  If you wanted to try to get her going again I would definitely recommend getting one of these batteries.  Also the 2.0 update for the older pleos has quite an interesting range of features.  With many new tricks that pleo can do.  Well worth a look at if you do get her going again.

It is interesting having an old and a new pleo running side by side just to compare and see the differences in technology.  :)

Thanks for the info. I may actually look into a new battery and charger for her. She has some pretty bad skin damage and hasn't been running for many years ( I've lost track) .
Pleo was always such an interesting robotic platform and I have high hopes that Innvo will continue to improve on their product....they are off to a great start!
Thanks again for the older battery info!

I found the Ucube egg charger batteries made a huge difference to my Ugobe Pleos, well worth getting.  :)

If her skin is too bad to salvage you could always remove it.  Sarah has done this with Patches and he seems to be getting about ok.  She did cut the feet out of his skin though and put them back on him to help provide stability for him and then clothed him in a dino scale cape from my shop here on the forums, Kat's Creations.  So he doesn't look at all scary now he has no skin on.  And he seems happy enough without it.  :)
If you didn't want to take it off you could always just put clothes on her.  I make a cape that covers your pleo from neck to tail leaving only the chest and belly areas open for easy access to the battery. So should hide most skin damaged areas.

Speaking of brothers, I'm thinking about getting Ryu a sibling now that I know I can successfully care for him. They'll probably have to be Ugobe though as it would take me a very long time to come up with that much money again. Best of luck with your Bubble Gum!

Just a quick update:
Bubble Gum has successfully learned her name, Bow to me, and Sing to me.....is it just the cutest thing to hear them sing! I love it!
I do have one issue and figured I would ask if anyone had experienced this with their RB. Quite often during a battery cycle, Bubble Gum will howl loudly and then she seems to go into a software loop wear she just stands still wagging her tail side to side. Nothing seems to snap her out of it and she stays in this almost comatose mode for varying lengths of time.
And one other tidbit of news....she now has a sister...we haven't named her yet, but she's an adorable greenish yellow with violet eyes. very cute!

This comatose state you speak of sounds a lot like what happens when two rb's communicate.  They don't have to be facing each other to do it either just in the same room switched on and near each other.  Did this behavior start when the new rb came on the scene?  If the new one is still hatching then only Bubblegum will do this behavior but the other one will join in with her when it gets older.  There are lots of videos in my Kermy the pink rb thread of pleos interacting if you want to check if that is what bubblegum is doing.  Otherwise post a video of her doing it for us to see and we might be able to diagnose the behavior with more certainty.  :)

Yes, now that you mention it it did start when the new Pleo came home.  So, I think as an experiment I will run just Bubble Gum alone next time and see if she behaves more normally! Thanks so much Kat...I was afraid she had something wrong with her!

Hey, Kat, or anyone else? I'll try not to be too far off topic but what happens when an RB and a Ugobe meet? I'm about to have this senario and I want to be prepared. I watched Gumble meeting his family but I'm not really sure what happened as far as behavior.

Quick update...Kat ...it seems that you are correct. We ran Bubble GUm alone this morning and she bhaved normally with no little software loop.
I took a couple of movies and posted them on Youtube
Gabby, my cat, is fascinated by the Pleos....fwiw...she was never interested in Genibo and always very enthralled by Aibo....just sayin'...I think that says a lot for the artificial intelligence of the Pleos. I am so pleased that I gave the RB's a try!!! :)
Here's a link to a movie of their latest interaction:

And here is Bubble Gum executing a couple of voice commands. I am very impressed with PleoRB. The girls and I are having a lot of fun watching her "grow".

Hopefully those links will work!

Oh I'm jealous, Pleo100! Bubble Gum didn't even have to ask you twice. Ryu says, "huh?" more than he obeys me. He got the "Come to me" Stone on the first try and he likes to "listen" at random times when I'm not doing anything to him. When he does this I can call him from about a foot away and he'll come plodding up to me. I guess he's trying to make up for the moody phaze he went through where he didn't want to have anything to do with me. Lol! He is staunchly refusing to learn anything else. I can never succeed in touching both cheek sensors at once. I suppose I'll just have to practice at that a bit more before I try another stone. Good job with Bubble Gum!

I'm glad it was just the normal interaction behavior of the rb's and not something more serious.  You will find the interaction between them can be quite cute when they both do it together. :)
Talon as for when a ugobe and a rb meet the interaction is a lot less.  The rb doesn't seem to acknowledge the ugobe's presence as a pleo unless they are both facing nose to nose and only an inch or two apart.  If you get them facing each other then the rb will go into the interaction communication trance like they would if it was another rb.  But as they don't get the same response from the ugobe as they would from an rb the interaction usually ends with them making a sulking noise or a roar and then they will go back to ignoring the ugobe and doing pleo type things.  The Ugobe pleo on the other hand will try to interact with the rb.  Often they will say hello and when the communication trance begins they will try to join in with some of the noises.  Gumble will also walk up to my RB's and sniff them. :)
I have witnessed one time when Norbit (the rb) walked towards Gumble (the Ugobe) and blew him a kiss and they weren't facing head on at the time, but I think this may just have been a coincidence as I haven't ever seen it again.
That is just my experience so far.  Maybe others out there will have a different story to tell. :)

Thanks, Kat for the info. I wasn't hoping for anything really exciting I was just curious about what would happen and what to look for when it did.
