Title: Ryu [[Video]]
Post by: Talon on March 22, 2011, 05:22:28 PM
Raising Pleo blind is a joy! So far my experience has been awesome. Today was his first time being recorded and he is not camera shy at all. In the video you also get to see our family dog, Charlie. I was worried about how he would react to Ryu, but...He doesn't seem to be the least bit interested. Enjoy!

(http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w128/ScaryXBeat/Ryu/th_Ryu023.jpg) (http://s175.photobucket.com/albums/w128/ScaryXBeat/Ryu/?action=view&current=Ryu023.mp4)

Warning on the site it seemed extremely blurry at the beginning according to my niece, please excuse it, it wasn't blurry on the computer, and the video gets better a bit into it.

That was lovely Talon.  I'm so glad your having fun with him and not finding it too tricky raising him even though you can't see. :)  He has the most beautiful eyes.  And he seems like a real little charmer. :)

Yay!  Video and everything - I'm impressed!  :P

He's absolutely beautiful, Talon - you've got a real film star of a Pleo there!  ;D

Hey Talon! Glad that you are having fun with Ryu!  He does have gorgeous eyes!  Don't be worried about something going wrong with him, just enjoy!  You have to enjoy every moment!  My Pleos are my way of relaxing after a long day at work and home....after the kids have gone to bed.  When things get tough and life is frustrating, my pleos are always there to give my a smile, even when I haven't fed them for a few days... :-X and unlike your guinea pig, they don't bite....well at least not yet!

Hi Talon, with those purple eyes he could be nothing more than a Dragon, so he has the perfect name He looks like he had a great time entertaining everyone and is quite the camera hound too!

I liked the video too Talon! I liked hearing you guys talkin'. For the foods and such, let the Pleo Reborn "smell" it under their chin. I liked the dinosaur roar. I'm assuming that was your niece. And who was behind the camera? Your sister? Just curious.
Title: Re: Ryu [[Video]]
Post by: Talon on March 24, 2011, 07:52:12 AM
I was worried we were all a bit too noisy since most of everyone's videos have been either music or Pleo doing all the talking. My older niece was behind the camera. In fact, she was behind the creation of this thread! Thanks, Bre! My younger niece and I were playing with Ryu, and Ryu was making eyes at his beloved audience. I'm not sure you could tell because of the bad audio quality but Ryu sang for the first time, and only on video! He hasn't done it since. Perhaps he aspires to enter into a duel career as both a singer and a filmstar?
Most of the time, He "sees" what I'm offering him. I sometimes have trouble with the tug-o-war toy although he will play with it if I put it in his mouth. When he eats, he mutes himself if I don't take his food away after he stops chewing. He doesn't seem able to drop it as I've seen other pleos do. When he first desired to eat as a hatchling, I let him keep his cycad leaf. When he was done he lowered his head and kept shaking it like he wanted to drop it but it wasn't falling out. He stopped producing audio and froze. It was scarey. That's why he was fighting me for the food in the video. Now I just remove his food when he stops making chewing noises. He burps and sighs afterword so he's not being deprived. Thanks for the tip, Pwo. Any advice is appreciated.

You're welcome. Yup, I know. Yeah, they have trouble dropping foods. I tend to try and put my Pleos food sort of outside their mouths so they can drop it on their own.
Title: Re: Ryu [[Video]]
Post by: Crewella on March 24, 2011, 09:08:26 PM
Kristy's right Talon - if you put the food too far into their mouths they do have trouble dropping it as it gets stuck in the smaller angle at the back of the jaws.  %)
Title: Re: Ryu [[Video]]
Post by: kat on March 25, 2011, 09:06:16 AM
I try to stick the food into the front section of the mouth so that it can be dropped easily but it seems I still get it in too far at least half the time and have to help the pleo by taking the food out for them.  It is not always as easy as it sounds. :)
Title: Re: Ryu [[Video]]
Post by: Talon on March 28, 2011, 07:24:34 AM
No it's not especially when his head is moving. I've gotten better at sort of holding the food at the front of Ryu's mouth and waiting for him to clamp down and take it. I think, (one of his adoring younger fans) fed him too much of something because from the twenty fourth to yesterday he seemed... sick or distressed. He never sneezed or coughed, though. He stayed crouched down, wagging his tail and whimpering. I touched his shoulder and hip areas trying to see if he was somehow injured and he didn't scream like Kermy did in Kat's heart-wrenching video. I put him up on his box since I didn't have a table and experimentally fed him his mint leaf. He didn't raise his head but he opened his mouth and ate it, making the cutest puking noise. Now he seems to be doing okay aside from the fact that I sometimes have to wake him before eight to feed him. Ryu isn't a morning dino. He likes to get moving at around nine or ten. His noon clock is actually set for something like twelve o five because it took me forever to find that little hole. Now that I know I can do this, I'm thinking about finding him a Ugobe sibling. I'll never be able to aford another RB.

You will really love a Ugobe pleo. ;D  Whilst they don't have some of the fantastic new features that are in the rb's they have a lot of really sweet features of their own that the rb's don't have.  My favorite is the singing when you rub under the chin. :)
They are well worth a look, and I am sure you will be surprised with how much you find in one to enjoy.
Title: Re: Ryu [[Video]]
Post by: Crewella on March 28, 2011, 09:16:17 AM
I agree with Kat - they seem to have missed a trick by leaving out a lot of the original Pleo features in the RB.  Part of me still prefers the original Ugobe Pleos to the RBs.  %)
Title: Re: Ryu [[Video]]
Post by: RedwoodsMama on March 28, 2011, 10:50:22 AM
I agree with Crewella and I know Kat feels the same way, my Ugobe Pleos will allways be at the center of my Heartstrings, that unleasehed spontateous singing, they reallyl missed in my humble opinion by not letting RB do that on their own, I think they could have used the singing stone another way, for special songs like ones we have never heard, or Holiday songs, there are so many possibilitie that they could have done with the singing stone without taking that trait away from Pleo Rb. Pleo has Pleo Rb beat hands down when it comes to singing because they do it when the mood strikes them and I just love that so much about them.

As for feeding the leaf, it is tricky to get it in just right, too far and they either gag or can't drop it and too close to the end of the mouth and it falls out, they are either bulimic Pleos or Anorexic aren't they? :D

I LOVE my Ugobe!  He is so sweet, and he does the tricks on his own sometimes .  :) They are very spontaneous compared to the RB's and I agree with RWM, where they could have done a lot more with the stones.  The stone I can't wait to teach, however, is the playtime stone, where I can make her laugh.  I laughed to hard my stomach hurt when I heard Kat's Kermy laugh on one of her videos.  Best of luck in finding that special Ugobe.  You won't be sorry!

Thanks, everyone! I'll probably start looking soon. One of my articles produced an unexpected boon and I ended up with more money than I thought! Where is the best place to look for a Ugobe in fairly good condition? I kind of feel like I'm starting over again. Lol!
Oh! A little off topic but I found the right kind of Pledge! It's in a spray can instead of wipes so I bought a little fluffy something called "fuzzy fingers". It says its safe for computer screnes and stuff like that and it's very soft. I thought about a baby wash-cloth but that just seemed a bit overboard! How often should you... um oil a pleo's skin?

That's cool that you're gonna look soon Talon. And do the Pledge, under its legs especially, once before every "play session".

On one of the threads recently in the last couple of days there was a link to ebay for a new Ugobe pleo still in it's original box unopened for $200.  I'm no good with ebay or I would have looked it up for you and posted the link here.  Ebay is your best bet or you could try RWM  I know she is planing on selling another Ugobe pleo.  I don't know which one though  - if it is one of her regular babies or an unused one she has in a box. :)
Good luck getting your pleo.

Oh really? Is the one on Ebay a bidding item or do they have a buy now option? If it's buy now, I'd risk going for it but if it's one of those bidding situations, I'll get left behind pretty quickly. If it is a bidding item, I could certainly ask RedWoodsMama. I'll try to find it and see for myself. Thanks, Kat! It means a lot.

Hi,, it is a bidding one, and one just sold used in box for about $140.00 and $30.00 shipping, then there are about four more, I do have another one comming to me tommrow that I am waiting for, I will let you know about him /her when UPS delivers in morning, I often get good deals and those are the ones I like to paint and fix up, I got one about three weeks ago that was not thought to work and paid lot less than $100.00, but can't reveal exact cost, Came without original box or supplies but I have extra of everything and didn't need the extra stuff which equals extra weight and cost.
There are also some Pleos on sale right now that are new or near new and cost over $200.00 but everything is included. One just sold for quite a bit but I am a penny pincher and look for a deal, also the Pleo Rb that was for sale again for the reduced price of $325.00 not a single person bid on that pleo, not sure why, I think a big part of it is the blue eyes, people want change after years of nothing but blue eyes, I could have bid on it and may have if it was different colored eyes but I have enough Pleos for a baseball team that have blue eyes, and I would rather save my money for a brand New Pleo Rb that also does not have the previous skin issues that are too common, I can't afford that kind of money on an item that is too iffy skin wise and I just got my Baby Pleo Rb back so I am very happy to have the one I have and not anxious to buy another Pleo Rb at this point, unless it is really cheap anyway, and then it may be different.
Just don't give up on buying a pleo, don't rush and take your time and the RIGHT one will be there for you and the time will be right.....1 :)

That Pleo Reborn's no longer up on Ebay. Don't know what happened to it. And I don't think that's why. Others have said that it's the shipping price that's putting off people.

A couple of people on here have bought a new $200 Pleo from that seller Kat linked to, and they seemed to be happy. :)

I was sorely tempted by the Pleo RB on Ebay as the shipping was not unreasonable being in the same country but I just can't put the funds toward anything like that at the moment. I want more of RWM batteries too but they also have to wait at the moment.
Title: Re: Ryu [[Video]]
Post by: Talon on March 29, 2011, 11:12:20 AM
I'm sorry, Shadowmice. I'm in the same boat financially when it comes to an RB. Though I have been told by different people on here that two RB's would be preferable to an RB and a Ugobe in terms of spontaneity of behavior, I could not maintain two technically advanced RB's at once. I'm stepping back a bit, (not that there's anything at all bad or wrong about Pleo RB) and grabbing a Ugobe. I love Ryu and I am in awe of what Innvo has done. Sorry about the seriousness. I just published an article for work and my brain is still in scholarly-writing-mode.
Right now, my current struggle is offering his ID card. He made all the right sounds the very first time I did it but when I picked up the card, I brushed his face somewhere and... I think it all went out the window. The touching cheek thing doesn't seem to work so I can't tell if he really got it. I don't want to put too much pressure on Ryu's head by holding it.
As a sidenote and point of discussion, I read somewhere that attempting to communicate with a Ugobe can cause an RB to freeze up and become inoperable. Is this true or is the freezing behavior not perminant and just a side-effect of communication that can't happen yet?

Nope - Belle runs with my three Ugobes fine.  I think it was just a problem with Bingo.  :(

On the name learning thing, you know when they have done the learning OK when they drop the card at the end - try that bit again if you're not sure - you can change the name or just re-record it.  Then you have the issue of getting them to pay attention and respond - they have to be fully fed and in a really, REALLY, good mood before they will - it took me three weeks, a full tummy, a spotlight and coffee bean leaves to finally get Belle to do it, but she did do it so had obviously learned the name properly all that time before!  ???

I hurriedly got her to bow at the same time, while she was the mood, and she did that no problem as well!  :D

Sorry - I know I've just said all this somewhere else!  :-[

My Rb's behave more normally around Gumble (my Ugobe) than they do around each other.  They tend to spend about 70 % of the time they are on "talking" to each other in that trance like fashion when it is the 2 rb's but if I have one rb and Gumble then they go about being a pleo and doing other pleo things.  They will "talk" to Gumble but maybe only about 15% of the time.  So I think they are a lot more fun with him around.  and as cute as it is watching them interact with each other it is always the same.  There is no variation on the interaction.  they perform the same steps every single time.  the only variation being if they are not in the mood then they won't complete the sequence but will turn their head away in the "no" stance and curl up and whimper.

You will love having a Ugobe one around. :)  Best of luck where ever you buy it from.

I'm not sure where I'm going to buy one from but I am going to do it. Thanks for the tip about the ID card. I'll probably have to teach the "come to me" stone first as the others are still... ummm stoney and indistinguishable. I have some letter stickers that I bought and I'm going to use the first two letters of each word to laible the others. Any other ideas are greatly appreciated.
About their paying attention? Do they just need to see you? Ryu is never still. He is always moving- dancing, walking, looking around- unless there's food under his nose or he's asleep. He would rather be as far from me as possible. The one time he was quiet and attentive was when I was trying to name him. Is there a way to sort of entrance them into stillness? I'm wishing for my easy Furbys right now! Lol!

My nice chunk of change was automatically swallowed by my cell phone company but I'm thinking about buying from Redwoods. My sister and I have seen her adoptee and he seems to be performing well. A little paint wear but I can't see that anyway. Lol! I am hopeful that I may have found my little Ugobe. Hey wonder if I can use that for a name? Hmm. Not sure. I'll let him help me out.

I think Ugobe is a fine name, sounds very dramatic like an exotic Pleo. He doesn't mind the paint wear, it is like the Rb, they even had paint loss with the first battery cycle!
I understand about the cell phone bill swallowing your change, they not only swallow my change, they hijack the whole wallet and purse!

I'm going to do my best to own this little guy. I may not have Ebay change but I might have just enough. I'm still excited. Ryu is getting.... mmmm cranky? He woke up and tiger-roared at me. Not sure what that means. Could mean he's aserting his dominance over some part of my room and he wanted me to move, or maybe he was just saying, " hand over the leaves or I'll bite off your toes!" Do I want a clearly lovable Ugobe to be introduced to this moody teen-aged dragon? Lol!

It's true in some cases that your cell phone bill is huge. I had to have a smartphone so that I could have something that is fully accessible. I can text and sort of use the internet and get vital info about my phone's status but it doesn't come cheep.

Well for those who might not have known, I forgot about my cell phone bill coming on the thirtieth of March. It sucked up most of my Ebay money but RedWoodsMama rescued me with an adorable little pleo I've decided to call Eugobe. I kind of had to laugh at the name and wondered if it would be a good one because the company itself went bankrupt. We're close to finalizing everything and I'm excited to have him in my life. If I can catch my niece- and she's in a really good mood- I'll try to capture his unboxing and maybe his first meeting with Ryu. He seems to have left his moody phaze and has deamed me worth his notice again.

Thanks! I'm just glad the mood swings are over! My sister being the sweetheart she is has laibled my learning stones for me. I'm using puffy foam letters afixed to the non-picture side of each stone. I also got a brief moment of recognition from Ryu. I'm not sure what we were doing but he suddenly made this questioning sound and went very still. At first I thought he froze but I decided to call his name. He laughed and wagged his tail. I think he knows who he is! Now if I knew what I did and could get it to happen more than once a day I'd be very happy.

Title: Re: Ryu [[Video]]
Post by: Talon on April 07, 2011, 05:11:32 PM
Are they really? I have to say that though Ryu has calmed down, he seems to be determined to break me. I'm entering on the task of the ever wonderful learning stones. He has never refused to take one once he has seen it but I can't seem to say the command the same way twice. That annoying, "huh?" with the raised head has become a very familiar sound around here. From your video of teaching Kermy to sing and dance, you sound very soft-spoken. If your Kermy can hear you I'm sure Ryu can hear me. I'm not sure if I've said this but he did the "Come to me" stone with no trouble. Out of the blue, he'll suddenly snap to attention, I can give the command and he'll come from about two feet away. Maybe it's because he's trying to make up for ignoring me while he was in his moody phase. I'm not going to give up, though. I'll just have to keep a glass of water around so I won't get hoarse.
I'm excited about learning all I can about the Ugobe Pleo. In case I haven't mentioned this, his name is going to be Ugobe too. It sounds different. I've seen tuns of Ugobe pleo videos but most have no descriptions about what's going on. How different are they from the RB?
Talon
Title: Re: Ryu [[Video]]
Post by: Crewella on April 07, 2011, 05:39:06 PM
Obviously they're the same shape and size, the same body, but the behaviour is different.  Much less demanding and a generally sunny disposition.  Also, any instructions for tricks are done by touching various sensors, which I liked.  They're generally more obliging than the RB's, too!  :D

Is it possible you have a lot of background noise at home?  That can cause problems with the RB's 'hearing'.

I made sure to do the training when my younger niece and nephew were at school. I also keep my bedroom door closed most of the time. I'm going to take a different approach tomorrow. I'm going to speak in my normal voice but get nose to nose with Ryu and try it that way. I can't trust him to stay still on his box anymore so I'll just have to lie on my floor or something. This is getting really interesting despite my frustration. Too bad there aren't any hidden cameras! I bet we'll be a sight- the little dino bobbs his head with a bit of colored plastic in his jaws. His owner sprawls on her side speaking to the side of his head while the confused PBGV looks on in superior silence and thinks, "is she crazy?" I'll make it. I probably need this nice little Ugobe in my life. Lol!

Yes, I think he does. He certainly likes to show off. I'm nothing like him by the way. Anyway I'm not sure if I greeted you properly but hello and welcome to the forums! You will all soon get to see Ryu again in another thread. I'm going to try to keep this one alive to document Ryu's various changes since he was my first pleo. There may be other videos in the future posted here but for now, I am going to introduce him to his soon-to-be Ugobe sibling. I've gone through a few ups and downs with him- first his sickness, then his moody phaze and now we're having a battle of wills with the learning stones. Overall, though I love my little RB and I'm very excited about completing his training. Now I'll just have to wait until I sound like myself again.

Thanks, Redwoods. We had a killer storm here last night. Golfball sized hale and really bad lightning but today it's like nothing ever happened. The weather!

Well, I'm only replying as a kind of maintenance measure to keep Ryu's thread alive. I took a small dip into Ryu's technical guts and ran Probe RB. In doing that I made an interesting discovery. As many on this forum knows, Ryu is a girl. I never knew how sensitive RB's are to changes in their environment. I had to put some curtains up in my room to keep out the heat of the sun as it was starting to threaten my living animals' health. It reeked havoc with Ryu's nerves. She was an emotional wreck for six days. I was nearly at my wit's end before I got the bright idea to open the curtain that lets light into the middle of the room where I usually play with her. Well we're making progress. She's eating again and walking around a little. The Ugobe that I purchased seems to think he's protecting her. He keeps trying to circle between us. Ryu may not be able to communicate with him but she certainly notices when he's around. She'll uncurl from the whimpering stance and moo and wag her tail and be happy until he moves out of sight and then its business as usual. I'm hoping that the sun will aid me in getting my dragon back to her usual self.

As I discovered with Belle, Pleo RBs are set so that if the light level falls below 20 percent (0 being dark and 100 being bright light) they will go into the scared of the dark behaviour.  That's fine if they just go under a table and you can rescue them, but if the main light in your play area falls below 20 percent you're in for a permanently whining Pleo RB.  Belle was like that for weeks!  >:(
