Title: Mum! I can't feel my toes!!
Post by: Crewella on March 21, 2011, 08:30:03 PM
The poor patient for neck cable repair has arrived, bought as broken.  I charged his battery, and he works fine but kept tripping over his own chin so I sat him up.  Big mistake - the poor little thing kept trying to lift his head with his paws - broke my heart!  :'(

Hi Crewella, he certanly is cute and despite his "handicap" he seems no worse for the wear. Did I hear you and your OH calling him, "stripe"? If so is that because he has some "love pats" down his back? :D Just goes to show that you can't keep a good pleo down! He seems well adjusted too. did you just get him today?
Are you actually going to try Neck surgery on him or send him off somewhere? Good luck with whatever you do with him, Good thing Pleos heads are not any heavier poor guy! Sending hugs to him and you for good luck! ;D

Thanks RWM,  I bought him because I wanted to have a go at trying to repair the neck cable myself, so although both OH and I have a habit of calling anything in this house all sorts of nicknames and endearments, I'm not going to assign him a proper name of his own for the moment.  In case I get too attached to perform surgery.  Sarah was teasing me yesterday for being a 'scalpel wielding Pleo experiment Cruella', but once they're named even she gets cold feet!  %) :P

He arrived a few days ago, but I only got the chance to unpack and get a good look at him over the weekend.  He's now standing at one end of the kitchen with his chin propped on an old battery to make sure he has a good view of everything while I wait for the cables to arrive.  He's booked in for 'surgery' this weekend (gulp).  ;D

This is my inspiration!

Poor little fellow.  At least he ahs a great surgeon looking after him. :)  I would love to see the procedure if you are able to video or photo it.  I am really interested in the repairing a pleo idea myself (not that I have one to repair but maybe one day).
I think it would be a great thing to document as it may help some other brave soul fix their broken pleo.
Best of luck.

Awwwe! Cute video! He seems to be handling his broken neck well. There's a saying from my university days when I was part of a small group of blind people who attended the University of South Carolina Upstate. It went like this, "We're not handicapped, we're handi-capable!" Good luck with the surgery! You're a better woman than me. I'd like to see it too. If I had more than one to experiment on *evil grin* and a relyable assistant I might attempt it in a pinch. Mwa-ha-ha-ha! Let zeh madness begin! Okay I'm done now. Really bad nineteen forties Francanstine empression. *lowers head in embarrassment* I can't believe I'm posting this.

I hadn't seen that video before, too bad it wasn't fixing a "broken neck" and not just sewing up a wound, but it was fun to watch. Good luck with cables and such. I know I would most likely boggle the whole thing, either lose a part or make him worse or no better than before I started, I love the idea of someone on the forums here being able to actually "mend" a broken neck cable, so I am keeping my fingers crossed for you in the meantime, Be sure to tape it if possible..
There is a little Mad Scientist in all of us I fear......................... :-XNot saying what type mine is but lets just say the roots are deep in Translyvania! ;D

If he pulls through surgery ok perhaps Frankie would be a good name for him.  Short for Frankenstein.  :D :D :D

"Sarah was teasing me yesterday for being a 'scalpel wielding Pleo experiment Cruella', but once they're named even she gets cold feet!"

OMG! I meant dead/bricked Pleos!! lol..

And I'm sorry if my imagination gets away from me but look who you based your name on:

hehehehe.. you know I'm just teasing.. I'm really glad your trying to help them to work again and you know I wish you the best of luck.  I would definitely have a hard time working on one that was still operational, nevermind a named one!
But if they hadn't operated on me I'd be dead soooo.. fix 'em :) Best of luck, and that video of the stitches was awesome... but the video of the Pleo.. I really hope you can fix the poor guy..

Good Luck, I really hope you can fix the little one :)

hehehe just remember, if your going to work on 'live' Pleos, you'll end up as the forum doctor.. when my 2 Pleos have babies you're going to have to give them checkups and stuff and who knows how many eggs they'll lay..

So do you think you'll need to replace some parts in the neck or something? the wires maybe?  And is he a ugobe?

Yep, he's a Ugobe, and the neck cables have snapped so I've bought about five different types of cable to try and replace them.  Might fail miserably, but I just wanted to give it a try!  I'll keep you posted.  ???

And I promise the patient will have his battery removed for the entire operation.  ;D
