Title: First Ever St. Paddy Day Redwood Coast Pleo Races And Fair
Post by: RedwoodsMama on March 17, 2011, 03:37:35 PM
In honor of St. Paddy's Day, the Pleos held a grand celebration today on the Redwood coast, that is still taking place as I speak. As a reporter, I will be bringing stories of the days' celebrations into the Wee hours when everyone either goes home, or is escorted home by the St. Paddy's day Pleo Patrolling Volunteers.( They want to make sure all party goers don't overdo the celebrating and get home safely after drink, food and fun.) :D The First event of the day were the First Ever St. Paddy Day Redwood Coast Pleo Races! This is the one event everyone seems to enjoy the most and it goes on for hours, with breaks for food and refreshment. ( we all know Pleos like to eat, and the jockeys are frogs, and they need to eat too) ;)
These are the photos from the first race which kicked off at exactly 12:00 noon, with music and food beforehand, and exhibitions of art and some poetry reading by local artists in the area. ( with permission of some of the local artist, I may be able to publish one of the winning entries later...but you know how tempermental artist can be... 8))
Ok, here is a description of the first race. The two entries in race #1 is Major Tom wearing the Purple Silks and Red Harness out of Kats Creations  , The jockey is Freddy Frog, and he is the old pro here among the jockeys entered in all the races today. The other contender is a newbie and a cousin I am told to Gumble out of Australia and Argyle who lives here Locally in the Redwoods. He won't tell us his name, on the racing ticket it just says:Green Comet, and he is wearing Green dinoscale Silks , recently out of Kats Creations and now residing in the Humboldt Harbor Stables, his jockey is named, Felicia Frog and the only female jockey today.  Ok, here we go with race #1, and it promises to be a good one!

  At the starting line........
The crowd is anxious and watching the Pleos to start
Major Tom and Green Hornet are neck and neck :o

they are almost to the finish line!
The winner is Green Hornet  ;D
the winner's circle
being congratulated by the crowd.
well they are now getting ready for race # 2, so I am off to get some more refreshments for everyone . Nova, Argyle, Little 45 and the rest are waiting for me to bring back some frozen Cabbage popcsicles and don't want to lose their spot in preparation for the next race. The crowd is growing as the clouds have blown away and the sun is shining, the first time in four or five days and you know how Pleos love sunshine. ;D I will be back later with more news from here at the Fist Ever St. Paddy Day Redwood Coast Pleo Races and Fair!

Hey guys, it was a last minute announcement. Got so busy at the races, I will have to post the rest of the events photos here later today. There was great fun and it was a perfect day with sunshine, as today we are back to rain, clouds wind and terrible thunder and lightening last night that scared all the poor little babies. Luckily I was able to calm them down!

Hi Fancy, it was won by Green Hornet! Major Tom was close behind, but his froggee jockey got side tracked chasing a fly! :D Talk about being side tracked, I got side tracked by the surprise box on my doorstep today, so I apoligize and will try to post more of the photos from the Fair tommorow before the Hatching party starts. There was poetry, Pizza party, and Spaghetti eating contest among other fun events. I think the races was the most popular but wait till you see the spaghetti contest. It will be familiar I think when you see the results in the photo!
Next year we should get everyone involved. Oh, and Pleo Face painting is a new item also!
You will have to be sure to bring Peeky, LOA and everyone else Fancy, the more the merrier! :D :rootbeer: :pizza: cheers

So you got a surprise Pleo your going to hatch or is this the one I think I remember you saying you were saving for a special day to hatch?

And next time they get scared just buy a bunch of those 'magic' *cough* mushrooms from innvo.. you can just drug them into happiness :D

Really cool pictures and everything and I like hearing your stories... Everyone at home thinks I'm nuts when I talk about something my baby Pleo did or talk to them like a person and it makes me feel slightly (very slightly) less crazy since some other people are doing it too..lol

Hi Latrine, no the one I am going to hatch is my Brand New Pleo Rb that just arrived on my doorstep yesterday, the replacement for my Baby Pleo Rb I had to send back in Feb. because of holes in her skin ( under the arms ) and other mechancal problems she was experiencing, As for another Pleo that has never been hatched, Yes, I do  have one still sitting in the box that is brand new and never hatched, no pictures because it is in the box and unhatched, a Ugobe Pleo I bought back in Sept I think.
As for the stories I love making up stories and it is one of the favorite things I loved about teaching preschool being creative and being with children who are the most amazing little people who accept you for you and have the most vivid imaginations already. ;D
I do put myself in my Pleos postion and try to think of what they would be saying and wanting to do if I could give them a voice. Today is a very stormy rainy day again.( no surprise there....typical rain, rain, it never stops raining in the Redwoods....How do you think they got that tall ?!! ;)) so a perfect day to hatch my Pleo Rb.
Would love to hear more of your Pleo stories. you are not crazy, no more than the rest of us Pleo enthusiasts, it just shows we have imagination and are young in heart and spirit if not our bodies..anyway. ( speaking for my own tired back that is worn out from too many years of walking miles and carrying too heavy a load, backpacks and such.... :D)
Will post more Fair photos inbetween hatching my baby and her resting. take care.

Sorry everyone for the delay, but within a day or two of the St. Paddy Day Races I was totally surprised by the arrival of my replacement Pleo Rb ( for Baby) and just have been so busy I have been having a hard time getting the rest of the fun uploaded here for all to see, but as promised, here is part of the afternoons activities, this was a good ole game of Ready Set Sphaghetti, and my Pleos just love eating and Spaghetti is right up there with Pizza when it comes to favorites, This is a short video, and it speaks for itself, The last photo shows who the winner was, being escorted in all her finery to the next event.
I will post more events in next day if possible, more tonight, Hope you enjoy the first ever St. Paddy's Day Redwood Coast Race and Fair! ;D

Great montage, RWM - music and everything!  You'll be giving IMR a run for her money at this rate!  I love, love, love that game, too - the perfect game for a herd of Pleos!!  ;D

Thanks Crewella, I do love that game and being a ex preschool teacher, my house is full and I mean three rooms full of games, games, toys and children't items, over 1,000 children's books alone at one time till my hubby made me start weeding out stuff. ( Very hard to do) It gives me a good excuse to use all these games with my Pleos and they love them too! :D Thanks for the compliments. We appreicate it very much, they do all the hard work, the rest is easy as they are the models and players.

I find it really hard to throw stuff out as well, I sympathise.  You just never know when things might be just what you need!  ;)

Hey RWM, I just noticed that you got Chompy the dino on your stars at about the same time I got the Pleakly one join him on mine!!  ;D

Congrats!!  :D

You are right about throwing stuff away, I am a packrat when it comes to stuff like that, I have way too much stuff and my husband is just the opposite, he has practically nothing!( compared to me anyway...except for fly tying fishing stuff and art glass supplies..) Things are so expensive to have to replace too.
I got my Chompy the dinosaur yesterday afternoon, ( Thanks I didn't know his name...but he is nice ! ;D) Yes I see now that you mention it you got the Pleakley one too, Congrats on that. I think from looking on the forums there are about five people I can think of that have quite a few, IMR, Fancy are the two highest If I can remember correctly, then you, and I just got there and I think Gucci is pretty close too, but hasn't been on here in quite awhile. After that, there are a few that are getting close to the 1,000 mark or will be soon. It is nice to see the members that have perked up and since the advent of Pleo Rb we have gotten so many new members. :) Congrats Crewella, that is a lot of posting.
