Title: Roboraptor Or D-rex?
Post by: MariaOcean on February 04, 2011, 01:52:35 AM
:-\ I am thinking of getting a robotic dinosaur playmate for my pleo Furby. Should I get a  roboraptor or a D-rex ?
If D-rex fight with roboraptor who will win

I'd go for D-rex, personally.  I think they have more character, and I love their 'eyebrows'!  :D

I love my D-rex, but look out for peeling paint and easily torn skin.  I got it for my 2 year old daughter for her birthday, since she loves T-rex. It's her favorite dino, but it snarls and scares the heck of her.  Now I keep it as a watch dog in my kitchen while I am cooking so she stays away from my hot stove.  If she comes into the kitchen, I just put him on attack mode, and she runs back into the living room.   :P

Ooooh - I could do with one of those to keep the cats in line!  :P

Mattel has a newer dinosaur from the D-Rex. Cruncher http://www.amazon.com/Cruncher-Prehistoric-Pets-Interactive-Dinosaur/dp/B00383PNBW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1296847639&sr=8-1 . I don't know whether or not WoW Wee or Mattel are coming out with new robots this year. I like what you do with it in your kitchen! rotfl Edit: WoW Wee got back to me. They said they aren't coming out with any robots this year.

There are a lot more products from Mattel circulating... I believe their Prehistoric Pets line is becoming very successful!

Here is a full inventory of their products:

D-rex does look kind of cute in an evil sort of way. :)

Is d-rex very loveable?

D-Rex is very fun-- They still keep on doing things that I've never seen them do before!  While many of them do seem defective for whatever reason, they are very interactive.
They have sensitive hearing, and will turn toward you if they hear something; they also have seek mode, in which you can call them, and they will walk toward you (even if they have to turn, which they are surprisingly efficient at!).  However, their sight seems to be just as awful as that of a Pleo.....!
I'm also quite convinced that, judging by the personalities of Reno and Rude, that some of them may have different programming than others (whether on purpose or not) to make them more individual?

And you really do get some excellent expressions out of them!

And it's fun to make them look not-so-serious!

I admit I've only played with a roboraptor for a VERY short time (it was not my own), but I think D-Rex is superior and more fun.

I had a Roboraptor for a while.  The movements were very quick, especially the head, and the reactions were very good, but it didn't feel autonomous enough for me.  More of a robot toy than an interactive pet.

Wow Wee's Robo-reptile is the upgrade from Robo-raptor.

Wow.. I figured it was the other way around.. robo raptor seemed much better to me than that jumpy robo reptile.. is he controlled by a remote though? and while I've never played with any of them.. I always thought d-rex's humongous feet looked a little odd.

Pleo would definatly win.. haven't you guys seen how many costumes he had... he could pull one of those scooby doo stunts while dressed as a small child and be say something in dino language like 'he went thattaway'  then he could change into a different costume.. like a cop or something.. and none would be the wiser.

It has a remote control too I think.

My housemate has a roboraptor and it is currently watching over the frigde because it failed to walk and "does not have knees" like Pleo. I think my housemate was looking for something to stop me from wanting a Pleo at the time FAIL. :P
So this would lead me to suggest the Cruncher or D- Rex.

has anybody try to give a roboraptor softer skin instead of having the hard plastic shell?

I don't think so.  I imagine it would get stuck in the mechanical things inside.

Not having the softer skin is not all that bad on the + side with Robo-raptor at least you do not get tears or paint loss in the skin , My son has both Cruncher and D-rex and both of them are really really cool KIDS toys so i definately recommend , Cruncher does move very fast in attack mode i would just like to add.

Yes, I have. the Pleo's seem to always be afraid of D.Rex's when they first see them, but then once they see that they aren't in danger they calm down and don't seem to mind them after that. but the Pleo's will sometimes say "hello" to them. (and a D.Rex CAN NOT bite a Pleo, it is impossible for them to bend their head down, and their head is to high to bite a Pleo, so there isn't any danger from them.) and there haven't been many or any interactions with the roboraptors. (other then them lunging at me/the Pleo's once...)

I have to say d-rex because robo raptor is more a toy and d- rex is more of a robot in a way but not as sophisticated as pleo I have a d-rex she gets along with my pleo aka Comaro and its nice to have somthing to hang around with pleo when i am away. ;)

Sometimes they don't get along though.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZRdrxRHfm8Q&feature=related

Well sorry about the other comment i don't really know if a roboraptor is a toy or a robot i meant that d-rex is smarter than the robo raptor sorry for the rude comment

...that can't actually happen unless you make it happen, they PUT the Pleo in his mouth... they CAN'T bend down like that. there is no way for a D.Rex to actually bite a Pleo, their head is too high to reach any part of a Pleo. and if you look at the D.Rex's feet, he is actually falling over forwards and the Pleo is the only thing stopping him from nose diving!  ...however, my Roboraptors actually lunged for my Pleos and me one time! and they are at the right height and heavy enough to possibly damage a Pleo if they jumped up and down and hit them with their head! (so just don't leave them unattended, unless you somehow have a tame roboraptor.)  and yes, Roboraptor is more of a toy then a Robot, and the remote for them gives you compleat "control" over them (and that's a good thing sometimes!) but they do have an autonomous mode! (where they will spastic headbang like crazy, and smash their head and tail into anything nearby.) were as D.Rex's remote does not give you direct control, it just lets you set what mood he/she is in.

Ya i know but it still was cruel to put pleo in the D- Rexs mouth anyway i just didn't want to offend anyone.

Its OK. you didn't offend me. and I know it was cruel, I can't figure out why those people did that?!? and I was just trying to make sure that no one saw the video and thought they could be a threat to a Pleo. (...again, again. ^-^)

Any way douse anyone have a Cruncher he is like a upgrade from D-Rex but kind of mean sometimes,he is pretty autonomous too if you stop playing with him he will make loud sounds and move around to get your attention and he hates it when you pick him up by his tail or knock him over,he douse have a soft spot though. :D

I have a Roboraptor. I like how you can change their mood and play tug of war. I am waiting to get a replacement remote.
