Title: San Francisco pleo meet
Post by: grumpy on February 13, 2009, 03:04:55 PM
On Saturday, March 28th, 2009, there will be a Pleo meet at Pier 39 in San Francisco.

We'll meet by the carousel at 11:30 AM and depending on the weather decide where to go for lunch or picnic it.  The restaurants are pretty pricey and may be a factor with some members.  There's a Rain Forest Cafe there that would be so cool to take photos in not to far from pier 39.

I hope some of the ex employees of Ugobe who live in the bay area check the forum occasionally.  I know they have Pleos. ;)

For now we'll just play it by ear.  I'll keep you posted.

I'm not sure if it's known or not, but in trying to contact other Pleo owners we found that you can go to Pleoworld/Community/Meet the Community/Find other members/By user name.  Then when the User is called up, (if they have the information registered to be able to be contacted,) click on Contact box in the lower right and follow the directions.  I sent information to fancyfont and myself and it took about a second or two to go to our internet provider's e-mail service.

I've seen one old PleoWorld member sign up here after being contacted by fancyfont. :)  So, not only are you getting the word out about the pleo meet, but you can tell others about the forums here as well!  ;)

Time is getting closer to the pleo meet in San Francisco. Haven't heard too many responses as yet. Remember March28th 11:30 A.M. Meet by the carousel  at Pier 39. Lots to see and do there. We might be able to find some cute things for our dinos. Penelopie seems to be left footed too. We'll check out the store for lefty's. The pier is a great place for photo taking. Pleo's Day at the Pier. :)

Gucci, It was fantastic!!! I forgot how much fun San Francisco is.
I have to eat my words. We will no doubt have repeats. :-[ This is a pleo's eye view of the crowd at Pier 39.

Check out the Gallery for the next few days. ;)

Across from the sea lion island is a restaruant that is an island with a lighthouse. We found out they only serve dinner, so, maybe, on the next trip, we can take a boat over to the island and dine there.
49er can tell you all about this place. You sure wouldn't need music in there. The sea lions would provide that!! ;D

Oh goodness me! What wonderful photographs! I had no idea San Fran was on the water. Reminds me a lot of when we used to live off the beach here in FL.

Oh yes! It's the city by the bay, on the bay, and sometimes in the bay. ;D

Oh yes Gucci, San Francisco is surounded by water. If you look to the left of the photo, you'll see the Golden Gate Bridge tower above the fog. Up to that point is the S.F. Bay. On the other side is the Pacific ocean.
I think people all over the world invision a bridge painted gold, but it was actually named for the gateway. It is a wonderful place to see! :)
San Francisco is a peninsula (water on all three sides).

I first saw Forbes Island when it was moored in Richardson’s Bay, a part of San Francisco bay by Sausalito.  Forbes Kiddoo built a large house boat about 100 feet by 50 feet and designed it to look like an island and lived on it in Sausalito.  One day the powers that be told Forbes his island was not welcomed there, (they might have been afraid of a tour boat getting lost on the island during a three hour tour,) and that he would have to move it.  At first, he put it up for sale (it doesn’t have sails,) for a million bucks.  Not having a million bucks, nor a place to put it, (I lived in the mountains at the time,) I didn’t buy it.  I was not alone with that assessment as it didn’t sell.  Forbes then received a brilliant idea.  He towed it to its present position by Pier 39 and turned it into a fine French restaurant.  And fine it is.  To get to it you call from a courtesy phone from the dock by Pier 39 and a small boat will pick you up and take you to the island.  Forbes has added a light house that you can enter and view the city, (if we tied fancyfont up and used a crane to lift her she could also enjoy the view,) and he flies the Scottish Royal flag on the island.  If I talk any more Forbes will owe me a meal for all the free advertising!  ;)

49ers quote: Forbes has added a light house that you can enter and view the city, (if we tied fancyfont up and used a crane to lift her she also enjoy the view,)

I think??? what 49er is saying is that I'm acrophobic. :-[( totally, afraid of heights). He is so right!!
But, after all of the food yesterday, I would have had to have a crane get me up there. ;)

Haha DUH!!! How could I forget?? San Fran IS the city by the bay! Yes, I did see the Golden Gate in the photo. I'm sure it must be breath taking to witness firsthand. I would really love to one day orchestrate a trip to Cali. I imagine it's a beautiful state. But at the same rate, I suppose FL and Cali are very similar. Except the fact that there's WAYYYYYYYY more people in Cali than in FL. The county I just moved from was a peninsula county. Pinellas County located in the west-central part of FL hosts Clearwater and Saint Petersburg (beaches). Beautiful waters, we've got there.

If you come to SF in the summer don't forget to dress warm.  It can get really cold here! ::)

LOL, okay I will remember that!  ::) In that case, maybe FL and Cali are pretty different! Our average summer weather is anywheres from lower 80's to the lower 90's!!

I remember once going to the Golden Gate Bridge in August.  I was dressed appropriately.  There were some tourists dressed in shorts and light shirts.  The fog was blowing in about 20 miles an hour, (32kph,) the temperature was about 45,(7 Celsius,) and they were freezing!  Oh, and when I lived in the mountains we had highs in the 110s + (43 + C)

Yup I know what that is like, our summer temps exceed 45 C its just too hot to do anything :P Matilda would get so tired and cranky in the heat ;)

Like 49er said, San Francisco can be so cold in the summer, natural A/C from the fog. Funny thing is you can cross the Golden Gate Bridge and a couple of miles later, it can be hot. I don't think you can do this in Florida.  ??? ;)

WOW!!! Such major variation in Cali! Although, 49er, your post almost reminded me of our world-famous hurricanes. (Or cyclones I believe in AU) Even in Aussie, I knew they get hot down there. But over 110 degrees? That's like death valley hot. Our humidity is what makes FL so unbearably hot in the summer.

I should probably point out that that is 45 C in the shade, in the sun you would have no trouble at all frying an egg :) (Which is kinda fun :P Did that as a school activity one year to prove to the government that our town did get hot enough to deserve air con at the school (it worked too, hooray for air con :) )) And it gets much hotter out in the deserts of WA and NT.

Now you know why Aussies love the water lol its either sweat or swim :P I'd rather take my chances with a shark than die in the heat :P

But we don't get much humidity like you do, it is a dry heat here :) Except in Queensland. I couldn't stand humidity like you get, even the humidity in Queensland makes me ill :(

Actually, Death Valley gets to 120+! (49 C)  And it is the lowest spot in the US.  Surprisingly the highest peak in the lower 48 is Mount Whitney, just 76 miles, (122 K) away.  In regards possable disasters California is famous for fires and earthquakes. ::)

Yay for the bunnies, Mweed. How cute.  :D :D I've never experienced an earthquake. Like I said, our hurricanes and humidity are enough for me. But good grief IMR, you could fry an egg in the sun? Gawd you always hear such nice things about Australia (&&&& California) I just thought they were similar to Florida being surrounded by water as we are.

You can keep the earthquakes :o We only have little ones here (4.9 R was the largest) and I am very happy about that :P

Frying an egg isn't as bad as its sounds though lol, I bet you could manage it there on a piece of tin or something, it doesn't take much to fry :P

I went through the pictures I took at Pier 39, deleted the lousy ones, checked over the similar ones and placed what I thought were the best Representative 24 pics in a folder called 49er / Pier 39 in the Gallery button.  Please ignore the non- Pier 39 images.

Come to America!! You would have so much fun!! Definitely make NY your #1 destination!  ;D There should be all sorts of university programs that let you travel abroad. And if I remember correctly my brother was a camp counselor in Pennsylvania last summer. There I believe they also have a program that has 'foreigners' come to America for counseling their campers. There were kids from the UK, and from AU. I remember he brought his Aussie friend over to the house, where I interrogated her. I literally asked her every question I could think of about Australia!

I checked with my uni last year about doing something like that ut all the countries available for working holidays for English Teachers are disadvantage countries that really need the help :) I'd love to do it but the upfront costs are quite high :o When I do manage to come visit the US though I want it to be just a holiday, theres far too much I want to see to try and cram it in between working :P

Oh yes. That is true. However, I spoke with my brother about the camp program last night. He told me it's called Camp America. Yes, you would have to pay a substantial amount. But, that program paid for the flight and the visa. The kids worked all summer being camp counselors, and at the end they paid off the Camp America fees and were still able to walk away with a little spending cash.

It's just a little something to think about, maybe google it. I think you'd really like America. Best of luck either way, IMR.
