Title: Hello everbody ...
Post by: dwalin on December 19, 2010, 02:51:37 PM
.. and good evening to all of you from Germany - currently drowning in snow.  %) Sometimes things are strange. When my boss started talking about Pleos a few weeks ago I thought "what the heck?". And new two of this cute little beasts are sitting in my living room.  ;D
Both are from eBay, Littlefoot came in good working condition and is not very worn. He is all right except for a small hole in the skin which will be glued soon. The second one was sold as "defective wire and very worn" and when he arrived, he had one neck and one tail wire broken and has bent vertebrae. The neck wire is fixed and if I can get hold of enough wire the tail will be done next week. So far so good - but I have one screw left over.  :o He is working, but leftovers in general make me nervous so: If anybody has worked on the neck I would really love to know about the type of screws holding the head mechanism. There are two on the top, two on the right and one on the left, all more or less behind the front legs. I have six of this type from disassembly and I would really love to know were the last one is missing.

Any help would be really appreciated.

Best regards
Friedrich

Hello and welcome, Friedrich! :)

I sympathise - nothing worse than a mystery screw left over after putting something back together.  I hope you solve the mystery!  %)

No, the screw is still in the pot were I put it.  :( But I pray that it is not essential and nothing will break even on the long term. Skinny is working now and a pleasure to play with - he has been treated well and with Life OS 2 he is very active. Next thing is to get green and redo the painting - and to write a walkthrough to the repair of neck and tail which is not easy but definitely doable.  :)

Guten tag, nice to have another Pleo enthusiast among the members here, And it is nice to have someone who rescues a broken down Pleo needing help as well, I have two with broken necks, but I am not brave enough or talented enough to try a repair as you have.  ;)It would be of great interest here on the forums here if you could post how you fixed both the neck and tail on video demonstration or photo step by step if you can and when you get the time, There are many members here that have poor Pleos that have the broken neck esp with the older Ugobe Model Pleos.
I would say if you have an extra screw and everything on Pleo is working ok, then it is more of a cosmetic or extra hold issue and you are lucky.  ;D We would love, ( I know I would love to anyway ) see photos of both LittleFoot and Skinny, esp Skinny Before and after all your fine work, If you paint him, please post photos too. I have given two of myne Makeovers and they needed it and I feel are happier as well, Welcome Friedrich !

Hi Dwalin and welcome to the wonderful world of pleo
Oh and this forum of course.
I think Crewella  is talking about  that feeling you get  when you put something back together  but  you have a screw   left over, you know it belongs  somewhere in the mechanism    but you have no idea where it should have went and you just hope it wasn’t  vital.   It’s that feeling she hates I think.
Unfortunately I know that feeling well though not in relation to pleo

I have put two pictures of Skinny and Littlefoot into the gallery. Funny thing: First my wife was not too happy when I bought Skinny and started working on him and now he is becoming her favorite.

dwalin, Hi, Ozpleo is right about stopping with just one or two pleos, I know as I found out the hard way, and I am glad but it was a shock of how quickly these little green dinos can grab your heart. I went from knowing Not one thing about a Pleo in Mid December 2009, looking for a present for my grandson who loves dinosaurs to buying one for my grandson at Christmas 2009........to falling in love with my first Pleo, to buying a D-Rex for my grandson as I thought Pleo was too advanced and having no remote Control for Pleo, my grandson would get bored with it, to my first Pleo being named Nova, then in less than one year, I now have NINE PLEOS,  :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o But I am very happy with them, eight of them were purchased from Christmas 2009 to October 2010, so in Ten Months time, and my brand New Pleo Rb arriving and hatching before Christmas 2010, so Nine Pleos in Less than a year... but the good news is that I am now happy with my Pleo family and have enough for the first ever ( as far as I know) Pleo baseball team, and I guess they could also be called a herd and they are great fun.  :)
Just remember when you start looking at other Pleos on the internet, you are going to need good restraint from adding to your family. And do not think , Oh she has so many Pleos because she has lots of money and I can't afford to buy that many. :o Wrong, My first Pleo, NOva only cost me $85.00 and there was nothing wrong with her, ( she now has a broken neck... :() My second Pleo cost a bit more but still very reasonable and was for my birthday, My third Pleo was a sad case and had all sorts of problems, broken neck, terrible skin problems, but works great and was only $45.00, and the rest of them all cost various amounts but none were purchased Brand New from PleoWorld except for my Pleo Rb, and she is more expensive than at least 4 of them put together, but worth every penny.  ;D I think with your knowledge of how Pleos are " wired" and your capability in fixing broken cables and things, you are a sitting duck for all the Pleos that are sitting out there just waiting for someone to come rescue them and " MAKE THEM NEW AGAIN". it is a good thing I can not fix things the way you do or I would likely have more,  ;) would love to see more photos of skinny and Littlefoot, somehow I missed their photos, will have to look again.
