Lilo of course recently joined the growing ranks of special needs Pleo's. Her top neck cable has finally given way and we went shopping this morning to find a suitable solution so she could still hold her head high. The chemist was the obvious place to shop so much to the bemusement and amusement of the staff we asked to see every wrist guard and brace they had available. We went through a few, some too large, some didn't provide enough support and some provided too much support! Finally we arrived at a happy medium, something that would hold Lilo's head up but still allow her to look left and right :P
This is a nice elastic wrist brace used for sprains and strains in humans, but it works equally well on broken Pleo necks. The elastic means I can run it a little down her chest and still wrap nicely around her neck. I trimmed off a little excess elastic for a perfect fit. I will need to experiment a bit to see if the velcro is best on the top or on the side.
The cost of the brace was a measly $13 which is of course nothing compared to having my little girl able to hold her head up again :) (I will be on the hunt for a better color though :P They only had black or tan.)

Or even with the velcro underneath, for maximum support? Or would that stop her looking down altogether? :-\
I'm glad you posted about Lilo, I was so saddened by her neck going! Nice to see her looking better again! You could always paint the support? ;D
-
Actually you are quite right Crewella, I tried it on the side, on top and underneath and underneath definitely works the best :) Keeps her head nice and level :)

Great job finding that solution, IMR! I'm glad Lilo gets to have her head back up again :D It looks like it holds the neck up higher than RWM's solution does, maybe RWM should get one of those for Nova and Little 45 ;)
-
Yay! I really am chuffed to see her looking brighter, IMR! ;D

Thanks guys :) I'm sure she feels better than just staring at the ground :(

This looks great IMR. It could definitely use a coat of paint or dye for a better color. seems to be working well though. Well done. :)

A second solution for Lilo, I couldn't find the same brace in a better color... so we hid it :) A Pleo neck sweater anyone?
-
IMR, it is perfect, this is what I do for Nova a lot and sometimes for Little 45, though with their colorful bandages, they don't seem to mind it so much and no-0ne comments, I just say they have a " boo boo', and it is a good conversation starter to introduce what a Pleo is. I love the color and it looks so soft and warm at the same time, :D Good Job, it looks very similiar ( the pattern) to what Argyle is wearing, though his is dark blue with lighter blue bones, though they remind me more of clouds. Did you make this for Lilo or did you have the pattern already?

Nope this was made especially for my little girl :)

IMR, you mean that you did not make this.. :o I am surprised, it looks like one of your wonderful creations full of Lilo Luv!
I am impressed.

I did make it, but it's a new pattern just for Lilo :)

She looks beautiful! :) This is the perfect solution for covering her neck brace. Lovely.
Your a genius IMR. :)

It IS a perfect solution - it looks beautiful. What's more, shivering in snowy England, all three of mine looked longingly at the snuggly Pleo neck on that sweater! :P

Lol poor Lilo is the opposite I'm afraid, she is sweltering :P I shall have to make her a cooler one for the summer :)
-
Lol! She needs one of those 'Edwardian' high necked blouses! With lace at the top edge ............. :D
*I can see it now* ;)
