i recently bought a lego mindstorms NXT 2.0 set, and its amazing! i always wanted a way to get into building and programming robots; but most options were way to pricey, and required me to know a programming language already.
only been playing around with this set for a couple days and i already have a billion ideas. seeing how deep the relitivly simple programming can go (its all sort of drag and drop programming blocks and alter the values, but it goes as deep as data variables and logic circuits) ive already made a pretty simple object avoider, and my boyfriend made a line tracker bot. and learning to do this took about 10 mins. :D
in the end i hope to programme something with more complex room exploration and interaction. give it some personality and variables. but this is potentially years down the line :)
so does anyone here tinker with mindstorms?
and ifanybody here is like me and wanted an affordable (about £170, over most robo kits £500+ price tag) and easy, fun but really versitile robotics kit, i recomend mindstorms :D

Oh yes, yes, I use NXT. :)
It is very fun and interesting, and I enjoy building my own robots with it, deviating from the instructions.
Have you tried RobotC programming yet? It's very complicated, but according to multiple sources is the best form of NXT programming. I still need to reinstall it onto my laptop, though.

so far im still learning the nxt-g programming XD ive only had it a couple days. this programming alone seems pretty deep, so ill get to know this better first. maybe at a later date ill expand out to new languages :)
what kinda bots you made?
-
I've made all the robots in the instruction manual except for Alpha Rex. :P
I've also went off and made some fantasy robots and dinosaur robots inspired mostly Troody ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TepEj2yz1BE ), it's almost impossible to make your own robot if you don't have an understanding of the standard instruction book ones, though!

im mannaging. ive not made any in the instructions apart from the quickstart wheel base. ive made mine up since then.
today i made one that looks both ways on my own design head mechanism and chooses which way to go that has more room :)

hi,
just found that thread, any further progress yet?
Do you have any videos to post?
Im interested in Robots myself and keen to learn the necessary languages if needed.
