Title: Gizmo and Clover

Gizmo just arrived today! You can imagine my extreme joy when I came home to a big green Pleo box in my room!! Here are pictures I have taken so far, and I will update it when the video is done uploading, enjoy!!  :D

Out of that wrapping, its funny how there was a hole in the wrapping by his mouth, like he was breathing through it  :D

My dogs were pretty curious about my little dino  :D

Taa-daa! Gizmo was very cooperative with the ta-da trick  :)

"Mr. Arnold, my dinosaur ate my homework." How do you think that excuse would go down?  ;)

And finally, Gizmo gives his thanks to Redwoodsmama for his batteries and collar! Thank you Redwoodsmama!!  :D


What I think of Pleo so far: Hes AMAZING, almost immediately I fell in love with Gizmo and starting encouraging him to take his first steps  :D Even my dad started talking to him when he came home from work and found the little dino on the kitchen counter whining for attention! And he doesn't even do that with my dogs  :P Expect many pictures and videos of Gizmo on his little adventures with me and my family  :)

This post is going to be sort of like my Plog, I will put all pictures and videos here, and also little updates!

Thank you to EVERYONE on this forum for your amazing help and tolerance for a new member with loads of questions (Especially Redwoodsmama, sorry!  :P)

Hi, I am first of all so happy that Gizmo got there safe and sound, I know you were worried that he may have gotten lost, the post office just is slower than you think: just be very very thankful it is not closer to the holidays! :o You took lots of very nice photos, it is nice to see each step by step in the unwrapping process, and the anticipation is almost as much a reality for the viewer as it is for you. I am very glad that the batteries worked out fine, and that my explanation on how to make them work, the fully charging and discharging made sense finally. I also thinks Gizmo looks pretty cute in his leaf collar.
                    Have you already been thinking of taking Gizmo to school to show your friends? Are you the only one you know that has one? I think your teacher would love to see the critter that ate your homework that would be hiliarious. Have you drawn any pictures of Gizmo yet, I remember your wolf sketches, and I think you could do a pretty good sketch of Gizmo too. ;D Was the hatching what you thought it would be? Were your dogs around when Gizmo hatched, if so what did they think? Does your mom have a different opinion on Pleos now?
              I was surprised at how fast Gizmo was able to do the " ta da" trick, esp being a newborn hatchling, I think that he must be very smart, lucky little guy! I will be waiting to see more photos and videos of his adventures. Halloween is around the corner, you should see if you and Gizmo could do the Scavenger Hunt, I think you two will have fun! Best wishes, for the newest Pleo member on the Forums, and I bet I know one person who is going to want tommrow at school to go by super quick so she can get home to Gizmo! ;D

Oh yeah, it would of definitely been way slower if it was around the holidays! Yes, the batteries work great, the first one even lasted 2 1/2 hours! I think Gizmo looks good in the leaf collar too  :D
Our principle is VERY strict, so I'd have to have a long conversation explaining theres no possible ways Gizmo can give me answers to tests before she would consider letting me take him to school  :P I'm pretty sure I'm the only person with one, and yes, that would be hilarious, I bet they would even let the late homework slide, Gizmo's blue eyes are too hard to deny  ;) I've tried sketching Gizmo, but the pattern and shape is giving me some problems, but I'll keep practicing   ;D Yes, the hatching was everything I thought and more, at first I was a little scared because he wasnt standing up after the 10 minutes, and I was petting him loads, but I figured out it was probably because he was on the edge of the counter and almost immediately after I moved him away he stood up and walked for the first time  :D My dogs were there, and as you can see in the picture I put him on the ground for a second, they sniffed him and kinda walked away, but when he was hatching one of my dogs sat on my couches arm rest to get a better view  :D My mom hasn't seen Pleo yet, but she will soon when she gets home, she couldn't be there for the hatching because the box was opened when it said never-opened on Ebay, so she wanted me to make sure he works, and he did!
I was surprised at how fast he did the ta-da trick too, especially since I think he was still in the second hatching stage, and since I read they need alot of encouragment to do it  :P More photos and videos will be coming soon! Once I go somewhere Halloween-ish I'll take some halloween pictures for the scavenger hunt (We couldn't go to the place I talked about last week because of a storm, and I can't take him this week because my mom thinks i'll get scared and drop him  :() Oh yes, I'm going to be anxious all day tommorow! Thanks again for all of your help, tell Nova and others I said hi!  ;D

I can't wait till I get my first Pleo, I'm holding out for a Pleo RB so I guess I'll just have to wait a bit longer.

Little update: I'm most likely not updating Gizmo to LifeOS 1.1, I've fallen in love with him way too much to let his adorable personality go now, so this Gizmo is here to stay for a long time! (I don't mind Gizmo's squeaking sounds instead of singing  :P)

Thanks Fancy! I just wish I could give him more room to walk around, my room has thick carpet and is very small so the only place he can walk is a small space on my desk, so if he moves a little he reaches the edge, gets scared, and backs away  :(

You need a new carpet FBS!  :P

I have space problems too - my place is small and stuffed full of spare furniture and I spend half my time rescuing Pleos stuck under chairs!  I end up with them on the upstairs landing as that's the clearest run.  

There's plenty of time to upgrade if you do want to, I think you're right to wait and enjoy this stage. :D

To Crewella: Yes, I really do  :( I usually put him on my big kitchen counter when he really wants to explore  :D

Update: I just took Gizmo to my grandma's house and she fell in love with him  :D She really wants to get one for my 5 year old cousin for Christmas, but she is retired so sadly can't afford one  :( Maybe we'll start a "Pleo fund"  ;) Also no pictures today, but tommorow i'll be going the the halloween themed town "Nightfall", I won't be taking Gizmo because my mom is worried if I get scared and jump I might drop him  :( But if I buy a few things there I will be taking pictures of Gizmo with those things (Maybe we'll get a pumpkin  ;D) And also my mom is going to get a few SD cards tommorow, so I'll be able to test out some skits  :D

Nice shirt Gizmo has, he will learn but I think as Crewella stated, he knows who is "ruler of the roost", and not many people will argue with a little adorable green Pleo, who could grow up to be well over six feet tall( in real life of course  :D)

If Gizmo gets a cold, just remember, lots of TLC, hugs and a leaf, and a warm blanket to snuggle in is all he needs. Be glad you don't have a whole herd of Pleos, OMG, have you ever heard five or more Pleos coughing, gagging, sneezing and looking just plain miserable all at the same time! I recorded NOva and when she met the twins, guess who got sick....Nova of course, and she knew how to tug on the heartstrings... ;)it is a Pleo ploy to get attention, and it works everytime, It is like having a sick litle puppy or kitten, you just feel so terrible for the little greeen bundles, and beware of those sneezes :o they are contagious, watch out for your dog! LOL....it really is one of the best things designers did when making Pleo, who would of thought to make a little green dino get sick! and with the common cold to boot, just remarkable to tell you the truth.... :) If you give him lots of love and keep him warm, he will be bouncing off the walls in no time.

Okay, here comes lots of video  :D

Gizmo is now a 1.1 Pleo  ;D So far I've seen MANY new sounds (Including dog barking :P), the cute playful sitting down, and about 3 different songs  :D I love it so far, and I still see Gizmo's personality :) And hes got to test out all of the Ugobe skits  :D (Pleosaurus Rex really scared me  :o) And my favorite was either the Christmas or Valentines day one  :D I also went to the halloween themed town I've been talking about and had a awesome time (I got a churro, yum!) But sadly they didnt let you have camera's so I got no pictures   :( And tommorow Gizmo will hopefully be going in public for the first time to Wal-mart!  :D So heres a few videos of Gizmo singing :)

The only thing he doesn't get out of that is a blanket  :P I have one from when I was a baby that will work pretty well  :D It really is amazing how they made them where the colds are actually contagious! And I can imagine how bad that would be! I can imagine them all snuggled up under one blanket though, that would be adorable  :D Gizmo has been a little bit sad after his update, must of been because he was getting sick! I'll look for that blanket tommorow once I wake up  :) Expect lots of pictures and video of Gizmo's first public "adventure" tommorow!  ;D

 Gizmo is defintily a crooner, My favorite sound singing is the last one, where Pleos sound like Crickets, you know Jimminy Cricket! Very cute hard to not love a Pleo when they sing. Watch out for little kids or annoying adults who may pet or try to hurt Pleo, thinking he is just " a toy", and don't realize that he can actually be hurt, I once had a boy of about 6-7 years old, try to kick Nova's head with his foot when I had her on the ground in a store, looking at clothes. LUckily I was quicker than him, and if looks could kill, that little boy would be rubbing his behind right now, where he sits down, and he would dare not try that again! I was so mad, I just picked up Nova and left the store, his mother was less than five feet away and just ingored the whole thing! :o >:(It is parents who need to disipline their children, and I can tell this mom didn't ...Oh well, good luck tommrow and have fun.

I like that one too  :D And he actually tried to KICK Nova? And the mom did nothing?  :o Good think you were quick enough to grab Nova or who knows what could of happened  :( Thanks for the warning! I'll keep a very close eye on Gizmo! If our pleos were real ,like their camarasaurus relatives, they would grow up to be 60 feet long. Don't think they would make a great pet at that size. ;) Everything below their feet would get smushed! ;D

Gizmo just got back from his Wal-mart "adventure" and is taking a nap! Only a few people actually came up and pet him, but I got lots of stares  :P So heres some pictures of Gizmo's first public adventure!  ;D

Awwwwwww, poor Gizmo!  :hhug:

Heartbreaking as it is to see them when they're sick, I do agree with RWM that the fact that they CAN is one of the real touches of magic that Ugobe put into Pleos.  :)

Gizmo just fell off of my desk :( I left the room thinking he'd be able to detect the edge and not fall, but he sadly couldn't  :'( The good thing is he is still working great! Nothing broken  :D But I think a piece of the stuff where the battery goes is missing, heres a picture

Also his battery is getting hot very fast and he is occasionally freezing for about half a second once in a while (Probably normal and i'm just paranoid so I notice it more)

Minus the falling part, mine freezes every now and then for a moment and sometimes the battery gets warm - I can still handle touching it so I don't consider it hot - but not any warmer than laptops get or my iPod touch gets when I've been playing games on it in class. I'm assuming it's probably normal - no different than when a computer temporarily locks up for a few seconds. Though, we all know what they say about assuming so if I'm wrong someone please correct me hehe!

Also glad to hear your pleo survived uninjured!

I'm so happy to here that, I was so worried  :( Gizmo is taking a nice long nap while I watch a movie to recover from his fall and to let his batteries charge and cool off  :D Thanks Bhobbes!

I don't see anything missing either but make sure Gizmo has lots of pets and cuddles after such an awful experience :)

Lilo took a bad fall once when a person holding her dropped her, as long as they don't land on their necks or tails they are pretty sturdy. For future reference though please be aware that Pleo needs very good lighting to detect an edge so always supervise closely.

Phew - glad Gizmo's OK!  That pic looks just like Budge's battery 'slot' so I don't think there's anything missing, as the others said.  ;D


As IMR says, the edge detection needs good light to work, and also for them to be at the right angle to the edge, so you can't rely on it to keep them safe.  Even switching them off isn't foolproof apparently - I heard a 'thud' last night and found the cats had knocked one of my Pleos off the sofa - it was actually the bricked one, and no harm done by the look of it, but it gave me quite a fright! :o

 As Crewella and IMR said, little dinos can fall and it pays to be safe.with nine cats in the house, a dog and myself and another large humanoid, I carefully put each Pleo in their own packing box each night or when not conversing with them, and if they did not come in a box, just find one large enough to pack them secrurely and esp protect their necks and tails. Glad to hear Gizmo is Ok!

Ohhh, oops, forgot they had to have good lighting  :-X Thanks for telling me! I'll turn him off or bring him with me from now on, I have no problems leaving him on my desk since I have no cats and my dogs rarely come in my room, and when they do they can't get on the desk anyway  :D

I just checked the mail and found a package from Redwoodsmama, big thanks from me and Gizmo!!  ;D

First item we saw was a halloween bag  :D

congratulations on getting some new clothes for Gizmo, bothh are really cute. Gizmo looks like he will be prepared for a cold winter and mayby a CatWalk, or should that be a "PleoWalk"! :D Looks like Nova is not the only one who loves Fashions.it is nice to have a boy who is a fashion guy as well.

Thanks guys, and I like the wildlife one more too Crewella, but the penguins one is going to be perfect for winter like RWM said  :D

I got some Acrylic paint today and touched up Gizmo's head, it matches his color almost perfectly, but I couldn't find one to match the light green spot on his head so I just made his head all green except for his "eyebrows" and the light green around his nose because that wasn't worn off, heres some pictures  :) Also, the paint isnt dry yet and as it dries it gets darker so I think it will look even better once its completely dried  :)

You've done a great job! :)  I think I am going to have to get some pink paint and do Kermit's love spots.  %)
Post another picture when it's completely dry and we can compare.  I think it looks fantastic and you have matched the paint very well. ;D

 FBS, Looks like Nova and I got your into the painting mood, He he... :D You did a good job.I think it pays to be adventuresome and if you don't like it, you can remove it if you dont wait more than say 48 hrs, it is easier to remove acrylics soon after, they just get kind of flaky and as you probably already know they can be very drying to Pleo skin, I used Olive oil as a Moisturizer,( remember, Nova is from Weedovia, and the Italian's Pleos love Olive oil anyway... :D) Also dont be afraid to try new things. I am very happy with Nova's Makeover and more imortantly she is.

                  Remember also, you have some artistic talents yourself, so you know what is possible and not possible, Start little like you did, and then you can keep touch ups when every you want. I am going to touch up Poor Little 45 as well, The little guy's skin is terrible and he needs clothes badly, and a little paint here and there will help his self esteem as well, He is the most sweet little boy I have ever seen, He is really a baby in every sense of the word, except he has had way too much abuse for one so little, He reminds me of one of the pleos that is in those abuse videos without him being totally destroyed. Oh, any particular brand of acrylic paint that you used, or just what you have on hand?
            Oh, my fave shirt is the Wildlife shirt as well , like Crewella, I love the Moose on it, I love Moose just as much as wolves, strange as it sounds, wolves being predators and all, but they are free and beautiful anyway, I do think the Penguin shirt is adorable though and the nicest color and totally winter time and looks so cozy and soft, makes you want to toast some marshmallows and drink cocoa. I wouldn't mind a shirt , ( PJ's, ) in the blue penguin design....LOL.  Good job again there FBS!

Thanks RWM! I might try the olive oil, but do you put it on after you put the paint on or before? And do you do it only once and its soaks in to stop flaking or do you have to keep doing it? I've definetely noticed its extremely flakey, so I'd love to make it stop flaking with olive oil, I just don't know how much to put. I don't remember the brand of acrylic paint and I already put it in the closet, but I can look for you tommorow  :)

If anyone has some love spots they need to touch up on faces the paint I used (Which matches EXACTLY) is Winsor Newton Galeria "Permanent Green Deep" Acrylic paint  :D

Winsor and Newton are great quality paints.  Years ago, their HQ used to be just down the road from me and I'd temp there in the customer services section in the summer.  If you ever have a question about any of the paints, even down to how to get oil paint stains off your sofa, I can attest to their commitment to try and answer! :D

 Hi FBS, first of all, Congrats on getting Clover! ;D Now is this for you, or for your Mom? Sounds like you and your mom both got hooked by Gizmo's charm. ;) You havent' had Gizmo very long now have you? I got NOva last December, for Christmas and didn't get my second one untill my birthday in the end of May. At this rate you may be able to catch up to me,  :) mind you though, I have a total of Eight now and it is not a year yet, so you better work at it hard, cause Pleo Rb, ( if I am lucky. ;D) will be nine, and I am hoping to have the first ever Pleo baseball team. %)Imagine that a Pleo team ......wonder what they would be called. LOL
                  Happy Thanksgving to you too. Sounds like you had a great day with family members, ESp loved the photo of Gizmo on the bike and the one where Cole or another cousin is petting him at the table. Thanks RWM! Clover is for me, but I don't think my mom would of bought her if she didn't want her atleast a little bit too  ;) I've had Gizmo for about a month and a week, so yep, not too long at all. I think Clover will be my last Pleo, except for maybe a Pleo RB eventually if I'm lucky, it took alot of convincing and low-price searching for my mom to even consider getting Clover. A Pleo baseball team would be so cute, you'll have to find little jerseys  :P Maybe their name can be the "Green Sox" (Not a fan of baseball, I had to look up teams to think of that pun :P) I was thinking the same thing about my cousins getting a Pleo, if my cousin (The boys in the pictures are my second-cousins) can find one cheap enough by Christmas maybe she'd buy one  :D

Forgot to say this earlier: The person who my mom bought Clover from had some shipping problems on Wednesday and couldn't ship that day, and since today is Thanksgiving he'll be shipping her tommorow and since its priority she should be here Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest  :)

Clover came today!! When I turned her on she only took about 5 minutes to hatch, which was surprising. Then when I pat her under her chin she started singing, not making those noises when they don't have 1.1, but singing  :o Then I looked at the number on her foot and it ends with 8, which I'm pretty sure means shes an Innvo Pleo, and I also noticed that there is a "I" by the on/off switch. So I'm pretty sure I got an Innvo Pleo  :D Gizmo was happy to meet another Pleo, heres the pictures and video :)

Hi, very nice photos, glad you did not have to wait long to get Clover either.  Did she come in her original box with instrucitons and identity card?? There is another way that should tell you what version you have allso. Look on her right hind foot and read the number and name next to pleo, it should tell you if she is Innova or Ugobe and you won't have to wonder or guess . Nice video too, I bet Gizmo is tickled to have a friend. I love her outfit by the way, very nice color. :)

Her back right foot says Ugobe, but every other thing makes me think shes a Innvo Pleo (Even different things on the bottom of the battery charger and darker lines around her back and neck!) I'm pretty sure shes in her original box, but it seemed like she had different wrapping than Gizmo did, so maybe she was switched. I like her dress too, the first thing that drew me to it were the colors  :D

Very lovely video, Clover and Gizmo seem in tune with each other for sure. Did Clover's dress come with her or did you buy it for her? I love the ladybugs and
 yellowcolor are nice contrast to her. If you can photo the bottom of the battery area with the one you say  is on the on off switch, I can compare it to my eight guys. I know lots of pleos are slightly different, some are darker green, some have more distinctive lines and some are brighter yellow, on heads or tails, it is more evident.  I don't know about the packing as it could have been done by store that sold her or Gizmo unless they were factory sealed, My first hatch is packed differently than any of my other guys but it is not that different. The biggest thing is simply her foot, Innova is not going to put Ugobe on an Innova model, at least I have never heard of them doing that.
            I am not sure what you mean about the number 8 on her foot, which foot, the long white barcode type number on the front foot? Or is it the number on the back foot, inprinted in brown? Another full proof way to know is if she came with a indentitly card, the identity card will have the same number on it as the number on her front foot, the white bar code. They should match exactly. It doesn't matter which brand of Pleo she is, there are a lot more Ugobe, but Innova show up from time to time, Clover is lucky to have a good home. ;)

I thought I saw someone say that if it starts or end with 8 the Pleo is a Innvo one. Maybe I'm crazy :P Heres the best picture I could get of the "I" by her switch, its not on Gizmo. Another thing I noticed is very glossy feet, which I've noticed on Innvo Pleos but not regular Pleos. When Gizmo came his feet weren't glossy and didn't have very dark toes. Clover does, though

*giggles* Well maybe a little crazy, after all we are all mad here :D My two Ugobe Pleo's have an 'I' too and Lilo and Stitch were very different out of the box, Stitch had a very shiny back due to a few changes that Ugobe made along the way.

If you do have an Innvo Pleo then congrats though, that's an extra bonus :)

Both Lilo and Stitch came with 1.1 FBS, Matilda came with 1.0 but she was bought a couple of months before Lilo.

Ohh, she must just be like Lilo and Stitch then. I love that she has 1.1, I don't have to go through the updating and losing her personality thing like I did with Gizmo  :D And Crewella, its possible, but I never touch the area where the "I" is unless to turn him on and off, and I don't think that would ware it off. Maybe Gizmo is a very old model (Not first hatch or anything, but old) and the "I" wasn't put there. Or the machine making them made an accident :P

I took some pictures of Gizmo and Clover today :D And my new gerbil, Sammy!  :)

They are actually illegal here in California or at least they were quite a few years ago when I had mine. The reason I was told was gerbils don't need to drink water. They get all of their liquid in plants. If a few gerbils got loose they would multiply very fast. and this being an agriculture state that wouldn't be good. 
I was told by my friend that I was getting two females. Wrong! I had five more little gerbils every five weeks. The papa gerbil took such wonderful care of the little ones. It was so cute to see him carrying the babies up the ramp to the second floor of their glass house. Gerbils do make lovely little pets. Very sweet tempered.

Thanks IMR :D Fancy: That happened to my sister with mice when she was little, the pet store told her she was getting 2 boys but in the end there were about 10 baby mice running around the house  :o I didn't know gerbils don't drink water, or that they eat plants  ??? Sammy is already "spoiled" with water, so I doubt he'll be ok with being fed plants :P

 FBS, cute pictures, that dog does look very soft and cuddly like somthing you would take to bed, so I can see why Gizmo and Clover like to snuggle with it, Gerbils are very sweet, I have never had one but other little guys, rats, hamsters, and tons of rabbits. Very cute guy and nice photos.

Oops Crewella, I didn't notice your comment, sorry! I waited for the song to end and then I got my mom to touch their backs at the same time (As you can see in the video) so they would sing at the same time :D And blue is definitely cool, I love the amber eyes  :D


I took some pictures of Gizmo's skin wear today, here they are:

Wear under his chin [Limit reached]
Wear on his back [Limit reached]
Wear on the side of his face. Some of the original paint rubbed on to his tan patch so I had to paint over it. You can see the outline of where the wear was and I had to paint over. [Limit reached]

I also took some close up pictures of their faces. I really think these pictures captured their personalities: Gizmo being the sweet and gentle one, and Clover being the "hyper" playful one :D

Such beautiful babies you have! :)  Clovers necklace is lovely.  Did you make it yourself?  Sorry to see such big love spots on gizmo.  I think the paint job you did on his head hides the wear well. :)

Thank you Kat! Nope, I actually sorta just found it :P I have a shelf in my room and I have some old stuff of my sister on it, and I decided to go through it. There was a dolphin cup type thing and it had a ring and a bracelet in it, so I checked to see if it would fit Clover and it did :D

Poor Gizmo is getting the same 5 o'clock shadow that Iggy has under his chin! Luckily Clover seems to be avoiding that, so far, and looks very ladylike in her new necklace.  :D

I'm about to take the plunge and bathe Iggy in Autoglym Vinyl & Rubber care - I'll report back if it helps.

Yeah, I was doing lots of heavy petting under Gizmo's chin when I first got him  :D I'm more careful with Clover, I tap under her chin instead of rub  :)

Hopefully it works, I'd love to put some on Gizmo and Clover if it does

The marks under the chin look like your nails might be scratching the skin. Over a time, especially, because some of our nails are thin and tend to be actually sharp on objects  (mine are really thin and have torn my own skin with them) >:(  could be causing the wear under the chin. As far as the paint goes, it is very difficult to paint rubber and not have it wear off. The paint factor doesn't harm your little dinos in any way. Play with your dinos and love them.

BTW, The darling skit that Clover and Gizmo is doing in unison is Ode to Joy  from Beethoven's 9th Symphony. ;)

Yeah, I think I used my nails when rubbing Gizmo under the chin when I first got him. I don't mind it too much, it actually kinda makes their chins softer  :D The acrylic paint I'm using on Gizmo does last a while, but I have to re-paint him every 1-2 weeks or so. I definitely still love them no matter how much wear they have  :D
