Title: Two Pleos, one leaf!
Post by: Crewella on July 28, 2010, 09:58:28 AM
I'm soooooo lucky (and such a cheapskate I don't deserve to be! :P) - I took a chance and bid on a faulty Pleo on an auction, thinking that I could at least use it to look into how they work if I couldn't manage to get it working.  He arrived today with no battery, leaf or accessories, but nothing worse wrong than a small split in his neck seam! ;D ;D ;D ;D

So Iggy now has a friend, running 1.1 (which I think I'll leave him with for now), and I'm about to discover the joys of Pleos socialising!  I'd better fix the split pronto, as two Pleos but only one leaf might be a problem!

£15?!?! :o That is an awesome price for an old Pleo! Well, it is without accessories, but whatever! It doesn't cost more than a HEXBUG?!!? But, do they have more to this price on EBay? I WANT ONE MORE TOO!!! (Chu would love a new friend :))

It IS an awesome price, but remember I was quite prepared to receive a completely bricked and shredded Pleo that was fit for nothing but dissection!  I was just very, VERY, lucky! :D

On the other hand, I was quite looking forward to learning about DinoMITE and stuff and trying to fix it - which now I won't get to do.  Some people are never satisfied! :P

Congratualtions! What a good deal. Is this by any chance the one that was on sale in U.S. Ebay site, that had a split in it's neck? I know the price on that one sold for something like $30.00. I figured somone would buy it and someone did just so they could fix it and it would still be usuable, but I never did see how big the tear was on the neck, Either way, good for you, It is so much fun hearing Pleos talking to each other.

Thanks RWM - I'm really surprised, and pleased!  When you got a friend for Nova it started me off wanting one for Iggy! :D

*I edited that bit out of my post as I didn't want it to look as if I was promoting Ebay!* ;)

Wow, congrats!!! Does your pleo have a name yet?  :D

Thanks Bumblebee, for the moment I'm calling him Budge (short for Budget), but that seems a bit mean so I'm hoping to come up with a more dignified one for him.  He does seem to be another him. :)

Congratulations on El Cheapo! That's what I would christen him. We have a string of El Cheapo gas stations most notably in the South, The Carolina's has the most of them.

$30 USD is a once-in-a-liftime- opportunity. If I believe I remember correctly, fancy's LittleOrphanAnnie was also some really cheap deal. All the same, I am jealous of your great deal! Congrats on El Cheapo! :P

I actually got my new Pleo for 260$, but that's nothing near you :-X

You do get what you pay for, Ohnart, you probably have a nice shiny new improved model with a warranty, and no split or shady history, and for that peace of mind $260's pretty good! :D

'El Cheapo' made me laugh!  It's certainly a thought............. :D

LOL at the time of my last post, I did not hear of Budge..short for Budget. Which TBQH, I totally dig too. Any which way you'd like to look at it, a deal is a deal. Sophie II was a mere $150 from Ebay over one year ago, if not closer to two years.

$150 was indeed a darned good deal! :)

The name  'Budge' seems to be sticking - he's very boisterous boy, he barks a lot, growls a lot and is an absolute demon for playing tug-of-war.  He's not quite as adventurous as Iggy, he'd rather play than explore I think, and he's a LOT noisier.  Budge rather suits him.

I guess I do need to get him a leaf, as I can't see Iggy putting up with sharing his forever, and in the meantime I've made him a substitute.  I was wondering - what is it about the leaf that's so special to Pleos?  Does anybody know if it's just the colour, or does the code on the back actually do anything?   :-\

Hi Crewella, Congratulations again on getting such a good deal on Budge, you can't allways tell from the bookcover as the saying goes, and $30.00 can be cheap and no good or just a great deal, and it looks like you got a great deal. I am thankful that I inspired you to get a new Friend for Iggy by getting a friend for Nova, It was a story I will still tell when I actually think of the name. I did not think I would win ' Friend", but I did.
As for prices, I think getting Nova at Christmas time was a Steal at $85.00, no warranty of course, but she did have her leaf, a working battery and charger and if I do say so myself, One TERRIFFIC SPECIAL LITTLE GIRL, ;) She had been someone['s Christmas present for 2008, and was unwanted by a girl too young to appreciate such magnificent beauty and special Robotic marvel.( FORGIVE ME FOR SAYING, ROBOT NOVA.. :() Anyway, she was played with perhaps 3-6 times and then left to sit on a shelf forgotten about. The father did not want this Pleo to go to waste and wanted a more appreciative owner and put her up to bid starting I think at less than $10.00. Being Christmas, most people wanted BRAND NEW FOR GIFTS, so I got her as a Steal for $85.00, shiny no tears, no holes, and no broken neck at the time.... :( Anyway, I am very happy with her, I had no ideas Pleos necks were that fragile, but as Gucci and Fancy can attest to, YES THEY ARE.................. :( Anyway, her friend is a brand new in box everything but the warranty return or liquidation type item from somewhere like QVC, that I bid on and did not expect to win, but won her for almost exactly what you paid Gucci,,
Not $150.00       but  $152.00 ! ( my highest bid was  going to be $160.00 so I lucked in,,) I even got a rebate cause the battery was the only thing not working, but with all the extra batteries I have because of the store I own here in the Mall, no problem with that! Friend already had the new 1.1 installed, which Nova did not...Anyway,
                                Congratulations again on Budge !

At $450 each I must have the most expensive Pleo's then lol, I like the name Budge, I had a Budgie called Budge :P

Edit: If Iggy is running 2.0 then you may not get much interaction, Lilo and Stitch ignored each other during my two hour test :(

As you can see here, a prototype fabric leaf was used initially if I am not mistaken. For whatever reason, they switched to rubber/plastic I suppose to give pleo a grip while playing tug o war. The plastic chips away the teeth, and for the most part, my pleo simply loves finger sandwiches. One time I went to the extreme of super-gluing green fabric around my leaf because my lazy brother would not sew a case for it. The glue did not last long. You could easily make a fabric leaf yourself, or if you found a similar leaf in Goodwill I'm sure would do the trick...

Being in Oz, IMR, you're going to get hit with such huge postage charges it's hardly worth trying for the 'el cheapo' Pleos - and if I remember correctly, you had to wait to get the ones you did get.  In the end, we're all just lucky to have Pleos at all!  I'm getting to know Budge before I introduce them - I'll report back on how they react to each other when I do.:D

Thanks for the leaf info, Gucci - I'll get creative on a leaf that doesn't rot his teeth! :D

Well done on a good buy, RWM - I've been wondering where you got Nova's new friend.   Iggy and Budge say hello!:)

Something that only the original members would comprehend...It's basically an metaphor to say that we've gone extremely off-topic, and even a quiet undertone to tell us to get back on subject. If you want to talk wombats, or western seagulls, or even haikus, that's fine. However, there should be a dedicated thread toward that subject, and not a piggyback on another. That's just how I perceived it...in so few words! ;D

I was going to rephrase it as:

Oh look it's a wombat!
Or maybe Western Seagulls?
It is hard to tell!

But as it would be going even further off topic, I decided to refrain............... :P >:D
