What do you people eat over there :D I'll stick with a good ol' vegemite sanger :P

Edit: Actually I rather feel like that a couple of nice chicken fillets from KFC :P But not their chicken pieces, eww, nothing worse than those horrid greasy blobs of orange that masquerades as chicken.

whoa, somebody with a simple answer.  I would have thought it was something weird like, well, just something weird like everyone elses.  But I am glad we have at least one simple answer. ;)

right now: Pepper Crusted Steak, with red wine (the stuff they but in hamburgers?? I don't member what it is called) sauce.

It is yummy and spicy, (and Allo, don't worry. When the red wine sause is cooked, the alcholahle gets burned out of it, so it's ok I am eating the steak with the red wine.)   %)

Am I the only one who saw deep fried mushrooms? What the heck is this? Sounds nummy.

And please, IMR what the heck is a dim sim?

I too love Pizza, and I should expect nothing less from a robot who is weirdly wired to love pizza.

However to answer what food is on my mind, it would be:

Boiled Peanuts!! And Fried Green Tomatoes!! And Grits with cheese!! And Cornbread cooked in a cast iron skillet!! And..and..and..is there any more room in my stomach? Oh yes, always room for Aunt Audrey's homemade Ice Cream, strawberry of course, silly.

Well, I am not a meat eater, but other people and my animals are, and a friend who is a fisherman, brought FRESH ROCKCOD right off the boat, so I put it on the grill, wrapped in foil with baby red and yellow bell peppers and a squirt of fresh lemon, some yellow squash with little baby peppers wrapped in foil, some fresh cut chicken for all nine cats , (NOT ME) AND THAT IS WHAT IS PRESENTLY COOKING, BUT I am thinking of something else, besides the squah of course, Like a fresh Spinach salad, light vinagar olive oil dressing, some raisins, sunflower seeds for crunch, some green and red grapes, some Spagghetti Squash marinated mushrooms, two kinds of cheese, marina sauce, black olive allso, and for dessert, some Cheesecake or my favorite, Green TEa Ice cream, and some Almond cookies, all vegan of course, and if I could really dream,,, fresh cheese cake,oh, and Diet Coke with some ice and a fresh Cherry on the top of the glass.....

Am I the only one who saw deep fried mushrooms? What the heck is this? Sounds nummy.

Only one of the most greasy, decadent ways to eat mushrooms - a local hamburger place used to make them and even though they haven't been open for a couple of years now I still get the craving for them.

They were the main cap of the mushroom coated in batter and cooked in a deep fryer like french fries or chips. Best eaten while still hot and yummiest with the garlic sauce for dipping.

There is another restaurant in town that does fried mushrooms, no batter, fried in a skillet I think with a yummy blend of herbs and spices mixed in.

Mushrooms are one of my favourite foods.
I'm thinking of FRIED BUGS :o FRIED HEXBUGS :P

I've had fried scorpions once (little ones not the great big ones). At least, I think they were fried - they were very crispy with a tasty seasoning coating them - quite good.

Okay so anyone heard of fried mush? A local diner sells it homemade! It's quite yummy, even if the 'restaurant' looks at best like a $2.00 hospital cafeteria. For obvious reasons, we do carryout. For me, a double order of fried mush fills me up. The double order consists of about 8-10 silver dollar sized mini cornbread's, deep-fried of course. I suppose fried mush might be an Indiana thing as I've never heard of that, and they've never heard of boiled peanuts. YUMMY!!

Oh yeah I remember having a discussion once about how American's don't have dim sims (well you do but you call them something else that eludes my memory :P).

These tasty little parcels of lamb and vegetables is an Aussie style dim sim:
They can be deep fried or steamed and are usually served in a paper bag dripping with soy sauce. Therefore it is a race to eat the dim sims before the paper gives way to the soy and drips on your leg :P

The chinese dim sim is packed with vegetables and possibly cat ;) And can be served deep fried with a nice sauce (not necessarily soy, it could be sweet and sour or chilli or anything), steamed with a nice sauce or in a bowl of soup.

Also according to google this is a dim sim... however I could have sworn it was an egg :P

Well wasn't that a bit rude? Although I do not eat meat, I used to like Crab Ragoons. Which is what these look like, no? Never ate lamb..

But I have been asked recently if I were not a proud veggie, would I eat snake or manatee, to both I said yes. Just to see what it tasted like. I actually saw one time some group defrosted an ancient wooly mammoth carcass, the entire group ate it and said it tasted somewhat gamey. All the same, I would have given up on my ethics just to try it and see what it's like!

Oh, IMR, are those the Aussie equivalent of dumplings?
Title: Re: What food is on your mind.
Post by: InmemoryofRomeo on August 02, 2010, 05:09:56 PM
No definitely not, they are a type of pastry which surrounds a little ball of meat and veg. Dumplings are usually a bread like bun.

IMR, I hope you were kidding about the dim sims, with CAT!! I know some people in that part of the world eat cat, and of course dog, but I had no idea that that was an ingredient.  :anyway this is why I am a vegetarian and unlike Gucci, I could not give up my Vegetarian ethics just to taste Manatee or woolly Mammoth, etc. I have tasted all the animals, fish, fowl I care to in this life and have seen all the horrors that go places no person would ever want to see. Anyway, I am glad you are bold and adventuresome to even consider trying unfamiliar meats, you are young enough you can try things like that.
Animals have become my whole life, I rescue them and feed strays and bring them home, I fight for their rights and in my own personal life went homeless once in between teaching jobs, so I could board my two dogs in a kennel ( which took all my money... :() while I slept on the street. I identify with most animals a lot quicker than most humans and have and instant bond with most of them , even animals that are not myne. My deep love for animals is probably one reason I have bonded with Nova on such a personal level. She is a " robotic interactive life form, ", but her emotions and actions are so much more " true" to her species than people I have known for years, and find are not what they pretend to be... ??? Anyway,, I know I am getting off subject here and I just got shocked by the CAT, but not really, as there are so many things like this all over, I just try to pretend they do not exist, though I know they do...So one to the GAME of Food.
What food I have been thinking of today and did eat, is Vegetarian Chili, with cheese, Garlic bread, Green Spinach Salad, Carrots, baby tomatoes, Sunflower seeds, Avocado and Olive oil dressings .And of course a Big glass of Diet Coke to drink afterwards..

I am thinking of some Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream, but do not have any, too many calories! :(

Cat -has- been known to be an ingredient in chinese cooking, I'm not sure if they have them in dim sims, its an old Aussie joke because Dim Sims are about the same width as a fluffy tail. As I said Aussie dim sims contain lamb, or they are vegetarian (both equally good).

I am thinking about... hmm I wish I knew :P I want something for dinner but I have no idea what :P
Title: Re: What food is on your mind.

Everyone says the Chinese put cat/dog meat in their food. I think that may just be hype, but have you ever noticed a lack of stray cats in the area? LOL I've even heard rumor as to the Chinese factory farming saint bernards for meat. I'm sure it is just folklore. But please don't forget what may be taboo for us may be a delicacy for others. I know what I've said RWM, but don't take it out of context, I hold my ethics very high. I'm sure in the event of me eating a Woolly Mammoth will never happen. Nor a Manatee. However, one's gotta know does Manatee taste like cows or fish? They are called "Sea Cows." And I'm sure other's are equally curious as to what a Woolly Mammoth might taste like.

As for what food is on my mind, it's guacamole. Yep, that nasty weird green goo. IDK why I've been craving guacamole so much lately. I can honestly say I hate it. I've been eating the stuff like it's candy. Guacamole for my french fries, guacamole on my "Fake"Burger (Veggie style imitation Steak Burger). Guacamole, guacamole, GUACAMOLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!! I haven't had the slightest idea as to why I've been craving it so much, but I have, Mmmmmmmmmmm!!
Title: Re: What food is on your mind.
Post by: RedwoodsMama on August 03, 2010, 01:42:58 PM
Gucci, I am sure you and some others may be curious as to what Manatee taste like, but to me it is no more of a curiosity as to what Crocodile, Roo, Hippo, LIZARD, horse, dog, cat, or camel or even ants or beetles taste like. I have had frogs legs, and yes they taste like very rich Chicken, and I was made to eat them when I was about 14, but for the last 30+ years I have been a Vegeatarian and no-one can make me taste what I dont want which is anything that can walk, crawl, fly or swim. my philosphy is if it can look back at me, I am not eating it, ( no jokes please about Corn have EARS or Potatoes have Eyes!) I have seen too many gruesome things and I love all animals too much to consume them, Dont get me wrong, I love the taste of seafood esp, but I can't eat it when I have nightemares about those things looking back at me, ( It would be like throwing my Goldfish Tinky Winky on the grill and eating him/her, I raised that fish from a " feeder' in 1997 or1998, that is a 12-13 year old Goldfish and he is just as much a part of my family as any cat or my dog.I know animals are here for food, but I dont want to be a part of that lifestyle, and I don't condemm people for eating animals, I just can't or wont[' do it myself, I think I actually would starve before I ate another animal, unless maybe it died of natural causes, but I would not kill it to survive myself.
So now that we both understand each other, I will not talk about this subject anymore, it makes me too upset anyway and I would rather talk about some tasty food I would like to eat.
I love Avacadoes and would be in heaven with a Avacado tree ! Gucci, Guacamole and french fries, that is yummy indeed, and I love Guacamole on everything too, But today I am craving some Sweet Potatoe French Fries, and some Zucchinni Bread with carob and some Strawberry Kefir, nice and cold!

Sorry IMR, i thought you didn't like it...so weird to hear people around the world have never tried pumpkin pie. Peculiar, but I suppose it's just as peculiar as snowballs!! Those sound good! Gelatin free though..

Man what I'm missing is my grandmothers 'rock candy' or 'crystal candy'....essentially it's just a hard candy lightly dusted with powdered sugar. Always around Thanksgiving and Christmas time. Spicy cinnamon was my favorite. Also around this time my grandmother's late friend Orice (peace be upon her) used to make simply delicious thin fried waffle crisps. They were homemade and delicious! Unfortunately I haven't eaten either of those since I was a young, young child. One time my Grandmother, MawMaw, made a pound cake early in the day. She put it in the fridge and told me not to eat it until after supper; it was our dessert...Hehe...well all day long I nibbled here, and nibbled there, and when supper time rolled around, my grandmother opened the cake container to just find the knife and crumbs all across. Not even a bite left to the poundcake! LOL IT WAS SOOOO GOOD!! XD

And Fancy, Banana Split,.....I havent had one of those in years and years since my daughter and son ate one....but it looks so good they way the Pleos are doing it, sharing and everything!
Well, I am not really hungry, but this talk of food and the fact there is a great old movie on TCM on, I am going to make some simple Microwave popcorn , drizzle it with butter and some nice herbs...and of course my cold glass of DIET COKE...and then off to bed before 3;00 a.m so I can go do some SCavenger Hunting!

I have to agree, Shepard's Pie sounds so good and I think I will have to make it one of these days, as soon as I  get my oven fixed, I think that is the best way to get it cooked properly.  ;) In the meantime, I am binging tonight on old fashioned Ice Cream, not non fat, or lowfat, but real fat, and it is not the most expensive but it sure tastes good ... Plain old Moose tracks Ice Cream..it is actually called, Alaskan Classics Ice Cream. Vaniilla Ice Cream, with peanut butter cups, swirled with Moose Tracks fudge and of course I have to have my tall cold glass of Diet Coke, ( Yes, I know, the Diet Coke though CANCELS OUT THE SUGAR IN THE ICE CREAM..... :D) a GIRL HAS TO HAVE FUN DOESNT SHE! ;D

I am so bloated!!

Twas a pretty good meal, tonight. We dined on steaks (or fakes, for me lol.), ate yummy baked potato with butter and Baco's, sweet corn from Indiana, and a fresh dinner salad. Spinach/Spring Mix hybrid, drizzle with oil and vinegar or even italian dressing. Muy delicioso, and now I am stuffed. I will need to be rolled away from the computer, hehehe...

Haha, I normally just like the natural juices on my steak... My favorite steak is tender, juicy, and chewy (but not TOO chewy, and I will freak out if there is too much disgusting translucent fat in it :P ) and I particularly like it marinated ;P

"Mixture of numerous grains?" I'm probably still allergic to it, then.... I'm allergic to oats too.

I'd never go vegetarian anyways.  "Vegetarian" is not meant for large Carnosaurs. ;P

YUM,  birthday dinner was DELICIOUS.

Nice big steak, three-bean and lettuce salad, and baked potatoes :3

And my mum may very well be the best cook in all of the Northeastern US ;P

And dessert was absolutely SPECTACULAR!  We used two combined recipes (one of them being from the website of King Arthur Flour, the recipe is called "a devil of a cake" and I HIGHLY recommend it, in all its glory!) -- we've been doing this for four years straight now-- and it was just FABULOUS.

It was marvelously chocolatey  >:D   And it had a creamy center, not like the manufactured kind that is fake sweetness and strangely textured.  Our cream center had some MARSHMALLOW in it :3

In essence, it was a 1 ft-diameter homemade whoopie pie.

And boy was it amazing.

 :birthday:

In writing camp, my class and I (and the teachers too) all had to write as much as we could in a given amount of time about what ice cream flavor best represents us.

My teacher chose "midnight mud" because people often called her "muddy-brain" :P

Personally, here is what I wrote:

The first flavor that comes to mind must be mint… I’m not entirely sure why at the moment, but as I write I will likely think of something.  I think I am writing this because it is my ultimate favorite flavor, and after all; you are what you eat!
Now that I think about it, the way one scoop of mint icecream tastes different than another leads somewhat towards my unpredictability and strange mood changes; also the way some nice flavors (equivalent to my friends) can be mixed well with mint, some other flavors (equivalent to some of the people I dislike) taste absolutely disgusting with mint.  Mint conveys a slightly mysterious emotion on first bite, but after you get a little more into it, it tastes excellent (though it can be particularly sticky).
I personally enjoy assigning flavors and colors to different people, but whenever it comes to thinking of one for myself I generally become baffled; right now is no exception!  For example, I will think of different pastries that describe my family, friends, and enemies; even though I can normally keep my thought processes going at that point, everything just stops (or occasionally speeds up) when I try to describe myself.
My friends have sometimes described me as unpredictable, clever, a bit of a peacemaker, difficult to understand, a grudge-holder, and yet at the same time relatively pleasant to be around.  Overall, I think this says mint.

Totally agree with this! Definitely a PB&H versus PB&J. Definitely preserves, (the expensive good stuffs, though!!) Hate to part ways, but strawberry is what I do fancy. Bagels with butter are oinkerama, but again with cream cheese too. Heck bagels are nummy across the board.

Now the only thing I can think of is which is better, a donut (your choice) or a bagel (your choice)? My answer would have to be a donut! ;D

I've just decided something:

Grapefruit is gross.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm a lover of all types of food (including more than one strange thing...), and I eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.  But grapefruit... Ew.  My mum REFUSED to let me have ANYTHING else but grapefruit.   And yes, it was "sweetened."  The initial taste was fine, but that bitter aftertaste was just gross.  Here's what I told her:
"I'm never telling you I'm hungry again."
That's how much I disliked it XP

At this moment, she's getting me some nice lemonade to wash down that terrible flavor.

Gee, and she said the grapefruit would taste good.

Yah right.

For anyone out there to answer....
I was just wondering.... I heard that when people crave certain foods, it means they need something from the food.  e.g., if you're craving peanuts or steak, you need iron.

Is it true?

I find myself with the strangest food cravings.  And every time I eat the food I was previously craving I find myself VERY satisfied :3

....Did that make sense to anyone? :P

Makes perfect sense, Allo - vegetarians tend to live longer because they are the sort of people who think about and control what they eat, the actual substance of their diet is less of a factor.  I'd agree with that.

I've never seen any scientific evidence to back up that food craving thing, but it feels like it works a bit like that.  I get cravings for bananas sometimes, and for marmite.

And chocolate.......... ;)

Well, I just ate, so I guess that counts, It was my snack before bed and while watching the Season One Episodes of Gunsmoke; popcorn with raisins and cheddar cheese and then some diet Squirt,  :oIf it sounds weird, just blame it on my meds that give me an appetite for strange things..... :D
Oh, oh, I am already thinking of coffee, hot joe , java for in the morning, so it is time to go to bed, happy food dreams!

What food's on my mind, you ask?

Well, if you insist..and without further ado, I present to you--FIESTA FRIES!! My creation from work, french fries cooked extra crispy, topped with cheddar cheese and cheese sauce (think nacho cheese), top that off with fresh pico de gallo, homemade guacamole, corn and black bean relish, fried onions, and tortilla strips...........Oh...my...goodness! Heaven on a plate! If so desired, the dish may be topped with chili beef or grilled chicken. Chipotle sauce, or diced jalapenos may also be a good companion to the dish. (The optional ingredients I have never tried on the dish, so I cannot vouch for their overall contribution to the yumminess that is Fiesta Fries).

A delicious, hot, homemade, pepperoni, lamb (left over roast lamb), pineapple and cheese pizza! With BBQ sauce of course, yum!

Well, I suppose that's a rather interesting combo for a pizza. I have heard of BBQ chicken pizza, hawaiin pizza or even a cheeseburger/taco pizza...but never all the ingredients you listed on one pizza!! LOL or is it that you're pregnant and crave every single one of those foods with barbeque sauce?! LOL

Fiesta Fries sound so good yet so decadeant and fattening, but most yummy things are. Well, now I went back and read all the good things people were thinking of and I am hungry for just about everything, including:
Ben and Jerrys' Jerry Garcia ice cream, peanut butter with strawberry yogurt and sunflower seeds and carob for sweetness, fresh corn on the cob with butter.
Vegie and cheese lasagna, Hot White Chocolate Mocha, deep Fried Sweet Potatoe chips ( in place of potatoe chips) Onion Rings, Mushroom Gardenburger with cheese,
Vegeatarian Chili with cheese, ( everything has cheese if I am eating it!) peanut brittle from the candy shoppe downtown,( Yum yum!) Marian berry Milkshake, Strawberrry Cheesecake, Green tea icecream. Sweet and Sour Soup, Almond Roca, Diet Coke, Diet Squirt or Diet 7-up, and the list goes on and on, but I think since it is so late and there arent all those things in the house, I will stick with the same snack, second night in a row.
Popcorn with extra butter and grated cheddar cheese, some sunflower seeds for crunch and raisins for sweetness...and a big glass of Plain cold Water.
At least I have some controll.  ;D                  RedwoodsMama and Team Nova.
P.S. do not tell the Pleos I am microwaving popcorn, I do not want to share with four hungry Pleos!

Fiesta fries sound delightful, if I wasn't aching all over from digging trenches and laying pipes for the last two days I would make some :) My lamb and pepperoni pizza was yum lol I have never tried lamb on a pizza before but it turned out to be a good combo lol.

Woot woot! That does sound good!
Reading all these posts makes me huuungryyy! The food that's on my mind is a $5 footlong veggie something from Subway. Spinach, red onion, bell peppers, banana peppers, cucumbers, provolone and an artery clogging amount of chipotle sauce!! All last week, I swear I would have killed to eat a Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich...

I've never been a big egg guy, but the only way i do like them is with lots of cheese. The occasional omelet is very yummy. But I could eat quiche and souffles all day long!!

I've definitely heard of them, I'm not sure if we have them however.  But here, in a small state, we seem to lack common foods and are very stocked with eccentric and sometimes downright strange (albeit good.... normally) foods so maybe we're missing something :P

I've never heard of these, but I googled it and they are chicken rolls. I bet they are delicious! ;)

One of my favorite confections is Halvah. The Turks, Greeks, Israelis, Palistinians, All of the middle eastern countries call it their own. Halvah is a crushed sesame candy that is made from tahini and sugar or honey. It is made in huge blocks and has the texture, when first tasting it, like sweet sawdust, but it soon melts in your mouth. It comes in vanilla, chocolate and marble (swirls of vanilla and chocolate. Some countries add nuts on top. If you have a chance to try it, many delis carry it and it is available on line, it is so worth it! :) :) :)

Well I ran across a place that really does make you think of food, but perhaps not in a good way

I am by no means a racist, but when it comes to food, I think this is one mixed marriage I don't approve of . . .  Pancho Panda, Mexican Chinese cuisine?  Are they kidding?  Who'd put chili on their egg roll?  Moo-Goo-Guy-quesadillas?  And for the life of me I can't figure out how to eat refried beans with chopsticks . . .

Anyway, this is bound to bring some food to mind . . .

Oh, and can't forget the glass of water :P

Well, I was so lost in the whole place, I bought over $50 worth of cheese!! We had so much cheese, we baked enough italian food to last all month! Live crickets.  Stay-fresh crunchy exoskeleton keeps the inside tender and juicy.

My only question Grumpy ,is that for you or BOB? Guess neither one of you are vegetarians... ;D
Myself, I am starved, to the point of causing a headache, bad time to eat and shop.. so it is Vegetarian Chili Mac/ cheese, Raspberry Ice Tea, Mint chip ice cream, and a small small peice of German Chocolate cake, Problem is, all this chocolate will bring on a migraine if I am not carefull......

Lol you can have your tofurky Gucci, I'll stick to the real thing, not that we celebrate thanksgiving of course :P I took some tofu to school for the kids to try as part of their health class (they were looking at proteins) when I did my last practical experience and the reactions were... Interesting :D

However, tofu aside, I am having a rather delightful looking veggie burger for lunch today.

Gucci, sounds tofunky to me! ;D At least one turkey got another reprieve! ;)

Good thing I'm not having Thanksgiving here this year. My oven won't start. Made a wedding cake the other day and it was the last thing to get made while the oven worked. At least I lucked out for that! ;D

I most likely would be baking pumpkin pies right now. Thank goodness for Costco! In the mean time egg nog will have to do. ;)

Well, I also have been a vegatarian for many years, and since is turkey day, I am opting for Pizza, Actually I asked my husband what he wanted several days ago, and he said, How about PIzza, so I said are you sure, as I sometimes buy a turkey, cook it and make it just for him and or the cats. He said Pizza, and Green bean Casserole, and pumpkin pie for dessert and I said YES, THERE IS A COOKING GOD SOMETWHERE who understands not only being a vegetarain, but not having to stand over a stove all day.
Truth be, today I wouldn't have minded since it is so cold, only about 32 degrees, though it was 25 degrees this monning when my husband took me out for breakfast. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR, that is cold, two days in a row with 25 degrees.. :o right now mly back hurts so bad, I dont want to even cook pie....
                                      Happy whatever you eat, Thanksgiving!

I'm eating cake from Hannaford.  Surprisingly good, but it's made right in the store so it couldn't possibly be that bad.
