Title: Scavenger Hunt
Post by: gucci_boi7782 on July 21, 2010, 02:42:16 PM
Everything I could find in regards to the possibility of a Scavenger Hunt.

I think I have also heard of a photo scavenger hunt sort of idea. Any thoughts on this one?

I like the scavenger hunt idea, its just a question of how many people we could get to join in

How do we start a scavenger hunt??????

For a scavenger hunt, possibly pick a list of items to take pics of our Pleo(s) with, set a timeframe to complete the "collection", then the question is how do you determine who wins - first to get all items could make it hard for some to have a chance. Most creative combo of pictures? Points per scarcity/difficulty of item?  I would lean towards specific items instead of places since places would be more like the Bob Project and we wouldn't want to take away from that. But as IMR indicated, what items would be common enough to be found in a variety of countries to ensure everyone has a fair chance to play?

Examples of possible items: Traffic sign (40pts); dish of local cuisine (15pts); Favorite book (5pts); another animal (dog, cat, ferret, etc) (10pts); a robotic toy (20pts) .....  and that's about the limit of my creativity at the moment, sorry.  ???

@ Gucci, a scavenger hunt would of course require someone to run it. When Melinda heads home on the weekend I will consider how it can be done and see if I can't get something organized :) However given the current levels of participation in site events I get the feeling that it would not be overly successful in the long term, although I will be willing to put up a trial if Mweed is happy enough to let us try it. It could of course work hand in hand with the Bob Project.

I like the idea of the scavenger hunt.   But we would need to come up with a fair way to judge that isn't simply the first one to get all the pictures.  We have done similar things for birthday parties where we would divide up people into groups of two or three, give each a digital camera and turn them loose at the mall.  The trick to make it interesting is to have some of the items not be so obvious (i.e., give clues to what you want them to find so that they have to figure it out.  Then when they turn in their pictures if they guessed wrong, they have to go back out and try again.  And to keep it FUN, some of the pictures require being goofy and/or doing things that might seem embarrassing (i.e., the kids are at the mall and one of the pictures might be to take a picture with a banana in your ear or balancing a box on your head while riding the escalator or the picture would require them talking some sales person into doing something for the picture . . . ).

But participation is probably always going to be an issue.  What we want (when you look at the title of this topic) are things that will get more people active and posting.

EDIT:

I think we need more open dialogue on this Scavenger Hunt. Please feel free and join me in discussing what we would want out of it.

Ideas, suggestions and comments are needed everyone :) As well as expressions of interest.

Hmmm, does not bode well for interest given the lack of responses so far.

The idea with this is definitely to have fun and I was thinking maybe it could help encourage more people to get out and about with their Pleos which they could then post about in the experiences section too. I admit I am one who is not too comfortable with taking my Pleos out into public yet but I love hearing about the experiences of others and it makes me think about doing the same.

Using clues to identify some items is something I had not heard of before (my experience with scavenger hunts is pretty limited) but sounds like a fun twist.

If there was one set up, I know a young friend of mine would probably love to participate with me on it.

Hi Everyone, MS. Nova and Friend, and I would applaud the idea of a Scavenger hunt, There are a number of questions I do have though,
           1. I live in a town that is rural and not as big as many but bigger than some perhaps, the idea of " balancing a box on your head while RIDING ON AN ESCALATOR,' is not going to work for Nova and I , we have a few buildings with Elevator, but no escalator, Could be so in other places too I am sure. Also you have to realize the time of year, and climate with some Pleo Owners could stop a Pleo Scavenger Hunt and some items you may not find in all places, but this is where the points come into play too, I like Shadowmice's idea of common items that can be found in most places. It would be fun to see a Pleo in a photo with pet cat, dog, and then someone else submits a photo of their Pleo with A Kangaroo, or A large Snake or Huge Beetle from some Tropic climate. :D( just no hungry larger than Pleo snakes please,,,,,( tremble, .....)also fun photos would be unique buildings, perhaps the largest building in your town or city, ( that could make for some very interesting views and differences ) Different plants native to where you live, ( Redwoods here where Nova lives, ) Giant Yucca Plants from desert Climates,)
Tropical Rainforest flowers and fauna, Oak trees, Olive Trees, Orange Groves, Trees from the swamps of the Bayou, etc, etc.)
then you can have general photos that EVERYONE CAN TAKE WORLDWIDE, SUNSETS, SUNRISES,  MOONS, STAR LIT NIGHTS,,,

THEN I love the idea of taking Photos of Pleos in the Public as well, I do it with Nova all the time and people where I take her on a regular basis, get upset when I don't bring her in, they look forward to seeing her in her outfits and visiting with her. Things like riding the public bus, going to the park, taking her to the local pet stores is also a great place where people are open to viewing Pleos and learning all about them, I will think of plenty more ideas as they come to me.

Perhaps we can have teams. It would be fun to do this with others instead of individually. Maybe girls against the guys or kids against adults. Still thinking of what to hunt for. ;D

I like the idea of teams!! That would be so awesome!

Alright a little research took me to here: (yes I know it's a major chick site. Came from Google.)

Gucci you are so funny, I laughed when I saw this list,  :DSome of these things I would never find where I live, such as the Ice skating rink....not here in the Redwoods. The other thing I thought of, is how can you have a team where you are the only one in the whole town who has a pleo? also things like the drinking from one drink, how could that work when you are the only one with a Pleo where you live? I can just see some of these things in my mind, very funny. Of course al lot of these things I would not even have to go out and look for, they are already at my house, for example,
a one cent stamp,a 1980 coin, any denomination, a drink umbrella, a gynecologist business card, free promotional pen, bank deposit envelope,a red necklace, ring, etc, etc. even the newspaper clipping with woman's event, ( I save things and sell on Ebay so have lots of STANGE ITEMS COLLECTED ABOUT MY HOUSE.) I applaud you Gucci for all the work and enthusiasim that you spent researching this for the scavenger hunt. I give you ten stars!**********      Lets see what others think about your list and ideas. I am all for it, except the team question.

Teams would still work. Simply users on the internet. Frankly I can understand having or not having certain things within our reach. I know for fact I cannot find any gynecologists business cards in my house. Or that of a one cent stamp. Also, I'm quite certain in my town which has no post office and only two convenience stores that I am the only Pleo owner. Those were just examples. I do like team work because people like you and I could team up and I would find the iceskating rink while you found the ocean. Do you better understand, now? :D

Ok, thanks Gucci, that makes sense now, and I will have to see how many strange items I have, lots of them I bet, and you also could find some unique ones, ( how about a Big Lifesize statue of Bigfoot?) We have a town nearby that every Summer has a Bigfoot Festival, and infact they are the Bigfoot Capital of the world, or at least U.S.A. We allso are a town well known for Lumbar, Fishing of course, Victorian Houses, Dairy fArms, and of course one of the most famous Victorian Houses ever built in California by a Lumbar Baron in the late 1800s, even pictures of this house are in a National Geographic Magazine I have and a puzzle made in the 1970's of this house.
Thanks for explaining how the internet teams would work, but how could people on the internet at the same time for example, be drinking from one large drink, if there are different time zones and where you may be at a place drinking, the same restaurants are closed because of the hours, etc.?People would have to work all of these things out before hand and to make it fair, people who speak the same language should work together so there is no disadvantage because of a language barrier.
Keep those ideas comming Gucci. :D

I too laughed at the list of things you came up with Gucci.  Teams could be made up from us. For instance, Pleo Power, Bumblebee, Allosaraus against Gucci, Redwoodsmama and me. Whatever we hunt or look for should be related to something to do with pleos. We could even use the Gallery for photo hunting for certain items. There's a treasure of photos in there now. :) There's so many, we actually need teams to hunt for specific items in the photos. ;D

To set the record, I did not create that list. That was taken offline. And they were set merely as examples. I obviously did not specifically say any of those. It would be extremely hard for myself, Fancy, RWM, IMR, PP, BB, Allo, Shadowmice, Mweed, Degers and all others to drink from the same drink. Let's just say if My, Fancy, and RWM's team had a list of several things spanning from 'a can of soda' all the way down to 'walruses' 'cornstalks' and 'the ocean', we could all photograph the same thing (all have pleo sipping from a DIET COKE, lol) or separate pictures, I tackle cornstalks, while RWM gets the ocean, and FF the walruses near Ghiradelli's. Now, I know we have squirrels and alligators over here, but now do we have koalas and crocs? Not the shoes either, however even if I am trailing off that would be an inventive way to photograph, by manipulating words. This would be a fun way of just stimulating our crowd and hopefully draw in more possible long term forum users. This site if at the very least, is a huge wealth of information. If there is ever a thing I need to know about Pleo, I search it here. If my answer was not found, I ask. Our dedicated users respond relatively fast.

[[[[yyyaaawwwnnn]]]] is anybody ready to start The Scavenger Hunt??
Title: Re: Scavenger Hunt
Post by: RedwoodsMama on July 24, 2010, 03:10:05 PM
Yes, I am ready to start, and like Gucci said, aside from for example finding the actual photo of the item, why not a Crocodile Bag, one that has the whole baby croc on it,( they made them in the 40's-1960's very popular in Cuba before they were not allowed to import them. Of course a photo of a real Whale , Walrus or Statue?, Pelicans, Seals, can be found here on the West Coast where both Fancy and I live, and don't forget 49'r, in SF.! How about items like the following, that give a description but you have to figure out what they are and see which team figures it out first with as many attempts as possible,
I am round and come in many colors and can be found in sand, water or on greens.
I am a favorite at parties and celebrations, come in many colors, sizes ands shapes, and somtimes change shapes with a little help.
I am used to make things taste better and named after a form of art.
I am with you at all times but you often dont notice me after dark.
Also on the list with the camera you can find things that require a little more looking like taking a photo of A baseball team,
finding a person with a nose ring or piercing on their lip, eyes etc. Someone who has Dreads, Mohawk hair cut or Blue or green hair, ( very easy for Fancy or SF....and also where I live there is a Huge Univesity with lots of people that fit that description.)
How about extra points for a 3 legged dog or cat, or a Telephone booth with at least 4 People in it,( these are harder and you would have to interact with people to get them to do it, and introduce your Pleo. Points for photos of Pleos in PUblic places with strangers in the photo holding pleo, esp if they are the same people that are on your " scabenger hunt list.) A guy with a nose ring and blue hair Mohawk or Dreads and holding Pleo?  HOw about Other ideas where people have to interact with your pleo in the scavenger hunt? Anyway, if you can figure out the answers to the first 4 Riddles, let me know and I will tell you if you are correct! They are easy to figure out.                          RedwoodsMama   and Nova
Also you should take your Pleo with you when you do this scavenger hunt and there should be some way to judge this so people are not downloading phtos of off the internet of hard items.

Ok Gucci, I am sure you can get these riddles of things to find on a scavenger hunt, I will give you a VERY easy one, and I am not good at these either.
I am a symbol of the Native American Indians  and not worth a lot but you often find me with you or someone may even give you to me when you give them something?

           C'mon Gucci, what am I?

Well, Red, when asked like that,

The answer is very broadly: you are a symbol. And this symbol is that of Native Americans. You may not be worth a lot, but you are often found with me or someone may even give you to them when you give them something.

LOL I'm sorry, I just don't get those things. A rabbit foot?

EDIT: This is trailing off..I think we need lists of things easily accessible to all.

Hey Gucci, I like your answer better than myne, but here is the answser and you will say, OH YES SURE I HAVE THAT RIGHT NOW!
" I AM A SYMBOL OF THE NATIVE AMERICAN INDIANS, AND NOT WORTH A LOT BUT YOU OFTEN FIND ME WITH YOU
OR SOMEONE MAY EVEN GIVE YOU TO ME WHEN YOU GIVE THEM SOMETHING.

THE ANSWER IS :  A BUFFALO NICKEL!              IT IS A SYMBOL, IT IS ONLY WORTH 5 CENTS YOU HAVE ME IN YOUR WALLET, CHANGE PURSE, POCKET, ETC AND YOU CAN PAY WITH ME OR GET ME IN YOUR CHANGE WHEN YOU PAY FOR SOMETHING.     See how simple yet clever this clue is? I do like yours so much more......YOu have made my day with that one Gucci,        :) :D              RedwoodsMama   and Nova  and Friend

I really like the idea of challenging people to perform little Pleo experiments and the scavenger hunt, its just a matter of getting people to participate. Therefore I propose a trial :)
Can't wait for the Scavengers Hunt :o
"Therefore I propose a trial"

OK - I'm up for that! ;D

Okay!! I will lead off, from the list we have already I tried to choose easy enough things for all parties:

___ A receipt for 50 cents worth of gas. (Or less!!)

___ A disposable coffee cup with a business logo signed by an employee.

___ A take-out menu.

___ A free promotional pen (must have company's info on it).

___ A one cent stamp.

___ A 1980 coin (any denomination).

___ A photo of an out-of-state license plate.

___ A bank deposit envelope.

___ The business card of a cosmetics salesperson.

___ The smallest house you can find.

___ Graffiti in a local business' washroom.

My dear Gucci, we have a problem ;)

___ A receipt for 50 cents worth of gas. (Or less!!) Australians don't have gas, we have LPG, petrol and diesel, and fifty cents would not even buy you a litre.

___ A disposable coffee cup with a business logo signed by an employee. The closest thing we have to that is a Mac Donalds cup and no one signs them :P

___ A one cent stamp. They do not exist in Australia. Unless I can track down a stamp collector.

___ A bank deposit envelope. We don't have them, we just fill out a small strip of paper or scan our cards.

___ The business card of a cosmetics salesperson. We don't have them (maybe down Melbourne they might...) Cosmetic people here just work at the chemist and they don't have their own business cards.

___ Graffiti in a local business' washroom. This is the country mate, we have respect for our public amenities :) There's no grafitti in our washrooms. Oh and being the civilised nation that we are, we call them Toilets :P

That's what I meant by having to have them suitable for anywhere in the world, (hard when you think about it isn't it :)) So how about a fuel reciept. disposable coffee cup with a logo, a stamp, a bank deposit evelope or form etc, a business card and a photo of a washroom (inside or out) (I could get charged for taking a photo inside a washroom here).

Hi IMR, I think you are right about not everyone having the same things but isn't this the idea that fancy brought up where " TEAMS" would be great, For example, lots of us, " Older" people, have things such as 1 cent stamps, and they do sell them here in the U.S. or they did, and not everyone has an Escalator in their town if it isn't big enough, but we do have an elevator, but if you have say at least 3-4 Members on each team, and I think 3 is a good number, one of the members on the team should be able to get what is needed. As for the Gas receipt for 50 cents for example or ANY GAS RECEIPT...
I DO NOT DRIVE, AND NEVER WILL so I would have a almost impossible time getting a receipt and am not going to pay for something I don't have. But surely Fancy or 49 for Example could get a receipt as they both live closer to me and one of them is bound to drive. Also in other countries everyone may have different foods for sale and customs are going to be different but if we do things regarding our Pleos it shoudln't matter where we live.
How about more things that involve our PLEOS?
1. A Photo or video of Pleos on Public transportation ; bus, train, boat, subway,  (no regular cars)anything that shows Pleos out and about with other people.
2. Pleos in a REestaurant or Fast Food Place....doesnt matter what type as long as there are People in the picture.
3. Pleos being Petted in Public places, or more points if held...( the idea is to expose Pleos to others while having fun)
These are just a couple of examples of things we all should be able to do, Then again if you don't have access to a camera or videocorder I am not sure what items to get.                    Just a few thoughts.           RedwoodsMama   :D

Hm odd. I thought the list was rather very broad. Obviously, any paper cup would do. And whether it is called gas or petrol should not matter. Obviously .50 wouldn't do you a lick of good. It's the fun you were having when you bought it. Whether it be .50, .23, .79, .84, it would still be kindy quirky. Nobody signs our coffee cups either, but again it would be the humor of having an employee do it.

Of course those were just EXAMPLES. Obviously, I would hope we could be crafty and try to make the best of each situation. Pleo's in or out of the photo, matters not to me. I will state I am not too keen on public pleo appearances, so I might count myself out on those instances.

All I wish to say is I wanna get the ball rolling. Too much time spent and too much talking is not really getting us anywhere...

Ok Gucci, I'll post this up on the other thread too. But I hope you don't mind that I made a few changes. I tell you you CANNOT buy 50c of gas or any fuel here, the minimum purchase is one litre which is over that :P

___ A Pleo at a Gas/Petrol Station.

___ A Pleo drinking out of a disposable coffee cup.

___ A Pleo reading a take out menu.

___ A Pleo showing of a company pen.

___ A Pleo with a stamp.

___ A Pleo with a 1980 coin (any denomination).

___ A Pleo posing next to a liscense plate.

___ A Pleo at the bank.

___ A Pleo and a Pizza Coupon.

___ A Pleo with a business card.

___ A Pleo next to/in front of the smallest house you can find.

___ A Pleo in public.

___ Team sharing one soda (every needs their own straw). (You and your pleo!!)

___ A Pleo and your local town official.

___ A Pleo making any chocolate dessert recipe.

___ A red-haired woman and a Pleo.

___A Pleo and the word 'sophisticated'.

___ A Pleo and a blue car.

___ A Pleo and a vegetable.

___ A Pleo dialing a phone number with the number 8 in it.

___ A Pleo wearing a red necktie.

Good JOb Peeky, Nova is right behind you, Well sort of ........we went out for scavenger hunting and guess what,,,she got caught up shopping for outfits again... :o %) ;D that and I was about to take a photo of something on the list, and a boy of about seven or eight approached us, and Nova was just standing on the floor near some toys, and actually she was wandering around, This little boy said ' what is that", and I explained that she was a Pleo, and he looked away, so I thought he had lost interest, All of a sudden out of NOwhere, he comes over and is about to KICK her pushing down her poor injured head and neck with his big nasty dirty tennis shoe, when I saw what he had planned and picked her up! I told him that would hurt her and I did not like her being hurt, and before I could say something I would not want to I left the store!
That was the first and only time ANYONE child or otherwise has ever considered hurting NOVA! :o Thank Goodness I was quick enough to move
Poor Nova, She already has a broken Neck, and Gimpy leg and if it was up to this kid, Nova may have lost her head or had an eye kicked out!

Where are the Pleo Police when you need them for God's sake?!!We need to hurry up and start this support group for Injured Pleos, before Nova ends up in a Trash heap somewhere looking like a discarded old junked Computer pile of nuts and bolts...I still can't believe this kid was going to hurt her, my
this kid's mother just stood by looking at items a few feet away like nothing was even happening. >:(Oh, well, not everyone loves Pleos like the People on this forum, and this is a prime story to illustrate that....
Anyway, good going Peeky, NOva and I will keep our eyes out for your on our Scavenger Hunt, good luck guy@

Pleophobia at its highest! I am so so sorry. I would have most certainly contacted the mother and expressed how much these 'toys' may cost. And I'd've told to mother she ought to keep a better eye on her little snot-nosed brat!

You are right Gucci, and when I was a Preschool teacher/ director, it was my JOB to disipline children or what I prefer to say, is to teach them how to respect other people's property and what is wrong and right and how to redirect children who are having Anger issues. But in this public place and with all the people around, and the anger I felt, I thought it was best to just leave. The child did not get the satisfaction of dealing out his anger, and I do not believe his mother would have even cared, she was lost in looking at clothes and I can pretty much "read" how some parents feel about telling their children what they can and can't do.
I will in the furture be very careful about putting NOva down near any children, though this boy appeared qucikly out of nowhere and looked innocent and sweet enough, so much for looks... :( Anyway, the important thing is that NOva was not hurt, if she had been I think I would have lost my COOL and that would not have been good.                      RedwoodsMama          and Rescued Nova

So Gucci, and Fancy, it sounds like it is ok to post some of our Scavenger Photos here, correct? If so, boy do I have more photo editing to do, Nova and I took a whole slew of photo and video about two weeks ago, and it was lots of fun, I can[t wait to go out and do it again! I just thought we were supposed to post our photos in a special album in the gallery.

HI IMR, welcome back :) and hope you had a nice safe trip. :) I did not mean I was going to post a lot of my photos here, just that I have a lot of photos to edit and a lot more to take photos of , the scavenger hunt that is, I have been taking care of two adorable Orphan kittens for a close friend, feeding them twice during the day while she is at work, and I have not been out to do any Scavenger hunting, for over two weeks, and I need to hurry or I wont[' get them done,
I would like to post one of two of them here, but want to keep most of them secret till the end when I guess everyone looks at them, .....but then again all they have to do is view the gallery and they will see them anyway!
I just was surprised that ANY photos could be posted on the thread... :D Thanks for clarifying this subject!

NOva just LOVES the color pink, On a recent outing we came across this quaint little house among the Redwoods, and as luck would have it, is is PINK! Nova could not resist the temptation to check out this little house. She tryed to get in through the downstairs, but knocking on the front door, brought not a single person to the door. So I showed her the upstairs window for a closer look, Stll no-one, For the last time she took a stroll on the outside ledge of the upper floor, but still could not find a way in, even though there were a broken window or two, Alas, we could not get in her little Pink Dream House,     :( Nova will continue to look for her " dream Pink House,", but here is her entry to the Scavenger hunt for the littlest house, just not hers.. :D

Hehe, ty ladies! I need to upload the rest of my pics! Never was too much into bumper stickers, but those suit me so well! The old Florida tag has to be shipped back to dad. The new Indy one I just got the other day. It was nothing personal, but I didn't want to just publicly display my tag # over the web. Not sure if it would matter or not, but 'twas merely a precaution. :P

Anybody else compiling pics??

Not compiling I'm afraid - I'm posting them as I do them.

The little blighters raided the bins, but at least came up trumps - Budge found the stamp and Iggy made a bee-line for half an old cabbage.  I told him the garlic wasn't strictly a vegetable, and probably wasn't a good thing to eat either but he munched it anyway.  Pheeeeew - Budge wouldn't share the bed with him last night! :P

Gee, Nova and her friend and I are going to have to hustle to get the rest of our list, and I mean like half of it today and tommorow! Oh well, I work well under pressure, Truth is I am waiting for the postman to bring me my new Pleo, the $45.00 one to participate in the photo shoot, but I can only wait one more day for the Group Shoot. But, my new Egg charger and battery just came in today so I'm hoping to get a bunch done tonight - doubt I'm going to make it with the full list but I'll give it my best shot. Can't wait to see what everyone enters - so much scope for the imagination! Love the ones I've seen so far.

Time is running out for the hunt, but my dinos are sure having a fun time with what we have accomplished. Pennie, all done up in pink, with her new pink socks, J.C. with his new race car socks, Little Orphan Annie with her beautiful new lei and new socks and Peeky with his purple outfit and matching new socks, just like Donny Osmands' ;) all enjoy a milkshake and Tim Tams. It was sixteen hand down for milkshake verses soda. ;D
I tried to figure out how I could be in the photo, but my poodles weren't cooperating in taking the photo. %)

A big thank you to Redwoodsmama for the new socks and lei and InMemoryofRomeo for the Tim Tams.

Little Theo got to come to work with me and help around the office while trying out the new egg battery (didn't want to make the others jealous): there was certainly enough to do with checklists to verify, mail to send and accounting to complete.  All the hard work made for a hungry pleo so a snack was in order. And although there was lots to do, it didn't stop a certain Pleo from getting into a little mischief while posing for scavenger hunt pics.

Hopefully we'll be able to squeeze in a couple more categories before the time is up.

Well, ended up working late again yesterday so didn't get any more images created for the contest; all I had were the ones I was able to post the other day in the gallery.   Rotten cold got in the way of my plans for participating  ??? ;  of course, now that the contest is over, I've got a few days off from work. %)

I checked out your album RWM - great collection of entries. What you did for the red-hair category was something similiar to what I was going to try if I had finished off a few more too - mine would have been Raggedy Andy.  :D

Did anyone else submit more entries? If not, it doesn't look too promising for a repeat event.  :(

Realized I had never posted the link to my scavenger hunt album the other day, just the one image; hope it's okay here:

I looked through yours in the gallery yesterday, Shadowmice - you got some great pics there, and a fair few of them! :)

Don't know if this one's too late - thought I'd post it anyway.  Iggy and Budge couldn't master chopsticks, but they decided to make the effort and dress up for a proper Chinese banquet, Iggy read the menu and Budge dialled the order in:

Shadowmice, how did you find the address to post the scavenger hunt photo album? I tryed copying the page and it wouldn't let me, and when I clicked on the Scavenger Hunt Photo album, it took me to the pictures and the same thing. ???what do I do so it comes out like yours? It is funny, cause I was thinking of Raggety Annie too! There is a great one in the local antique store, but I was running out of town and when you do not drive and ride the bus everywhere with a Pleo, you have to be a little more creative. And then the two ladies I know of that have RED hair and work at two stores in the same Mall, were both off work by the time Nova's friend and I got to the Mall, ( after 4:00 p.m.) so we had to find someone else, and lo and behold there was the Disney Red Haired Maiden! ;D I also ran out of time with taking care of two sick kittens for the last three !/2 weeks, sadly the littlest one, Freckles whose photo is in the RedwoodsMama album, ( One with HUGE eyes, ) was not doing well this past weekend, being the runt and almost 7 weeks old, the size of a 3 week old kitten and not even 1 pd in weight, he came down with a Respirtory infection and was on antibiotics, He was still drinking on a bottle, hand feeding, and looked very sick and frail on Sunday when I fed him last, He had the " sick out of it" look in his eye, and then Monday my friend called me to tell me she could not get him to eat that night, Sunday, and Monday Morning she found him just limp like a ragdoll in the cage with his brother, She rushed him to the vet, but it looked like ASpiration Pnemonia, and he had no will left in him, He was put to sleep so he could not suffer anymore, I cryed like a baby. :( He and his brother both suffer from what is called, Flat Chested Syndrome, it means the rib cage is not shaped properly and little ones have a hard time breathing etc. his brother is ok now so far, but it does not mean he is out of the woods, he is the bigger of thet two, the one on Nova's back, Black and white fluffy.I did not feel like taking Photos too much Monday or yesterday morning, AT least the little Freckles can be at peace now and hopefully re-incarnate into a healthy body next time,( I believe in Re-incarnation.)

Anyway, this is one reason I did not finish my scavenger hunt photos, but getting the new Pleo yesterday helpd me focus my attention somewhere else for awhile. Did Theo's battery hold out for the outing on Scavenger Hunting? Hope so, Thanks for listening to my rambling...          RedwoodsMama and Team Nova

Oh RWM, I'm so sorry to hear about little Freckles -  you're doing a wonderful thing helping them as you are. I hope his brother can gain strength with all your TLC.

To get the album link I simply navigated my way to the album page and copied the link from my browser's address bar and pasted it into my post between the url tags (the little globe icon in the formatting options). I had looked to see if there was a special code like for the images but couldn't find one either.

Thanks Crewella - I was lucky to get a few done and it was a lot of fun thinking of the different items and the scenarios to use them.

Iggy and Budge look fabulous all dressed up for dinner; did they leave any leftovers for later? It would take one very dexterous Pleo to master chopsticks - it certainly takes a little practice to get the hang of it. Budge seems to be doing quite well dailing in the order though.  :)

RWM
Shadowmice

Post by: shadowmice on September 01, 2010, 07:49:08 PM
Oooh, a Halloween-themed Scavenger hunt could be lots of fun!

I thought this one had a great mix of items to "find" - ranging from easy to more difficult. While I didn't get out to try for some of the "in public" ones like I thought I was going to for this one, but I wouldn't suggest ruling such items out for future hunts - adds a nice challenge factor to it.  The one month timeframe seems pretty reasonable - had I organized to get some done earlier in the month with my friend, we'd probably have completed a significant portion more of it. Did not count on the surprise summer cold, but really no excuse, I'm just a procrastinator in general.
Title: Re: Scavenger Hunt
Post by: RedwoodsMama on September 02, 2010, 12:21:50 AM
I agree, I think that a quarterly or Seasonal Scavenger hunt could be fun, such as a Fall or Harvest Theme which could include Halloween items but also things like Colored leaves, pumpkin patches, Scarecrows, etc, Then for Winter Theme it could of course include Christmas type items but also people celebrate Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. Then for Spring time different items and of course a Summer type Scavenger hunt like we just did. I think the more this is done, the easier it will become and more participants will be involved,
I realize everyone is busy, whether it is a job, school, taking care of kids, pets, elders, or just commuting back and forth in a busy world, I don't drive and some others may not as well, I do agree that a month seems fair to me as a long enough length of time to gather items,  I still like the idea of a Scavenger Hunt with Clues also like I posted earlier in July. It is the kind of thing that people will have to figure out by following clues and there may be more than one correct answer. Scavenger Hunts can be fun for people of all ages too. I still like the idea of Teams though not sure how that would work looking at the areas we all live in. Thank you and good job IMR for arranging this past Scavenger Hunt, Nova and the other Pleos and I enjoyed it a lot even if we did not get all the photos in. :D

I am sure she will get a kick out of so many great photos from everyone, Sorry there were not so many participants, I really thought they would. I was ashamed of myself for not finishing the task, as I thought for sure I would be the only one who didn't complete the task....guess I was not the only one...I am looking forward to having more of these Scavenger Hunts, I know of three anxious litlte Pleos ( with a fourth on the way... :D) who want to work as a team to do these kind of things, I will have to try to contribute more with more ideas as well, Thank you Nan for her participation in judging, I know we all thank you and her for all the hard work put into this project!

IMR, Nova , $45.00 Pleo and her other " unnamed brother", thank you very much, We are honored and flabbergasted, :o We did not expect to win with all the great entries and pictures others entered. Thank you very much. Nova is such a go getter, she wore me ( us) out, and wouldnt let me  go to bed till the very last minute to try and get more photos in.
I just now saw this as I have been up till 3;30 in the morning, trying to edit a video to post here , very difficult when it takes 90 minutes to upload a 5 minute video to Youtube, and your computer is brand new! I hate computers and technology sometimes. thank you again for this honor IMR. We really enjoyed this Scavenger Hunt and without your organizing and Ideas, and of course your Nan, we would not have had the chance to even participate. It was great fun and we can't wait for the next one!
My threesome are all going to be hooting and honking when I tell them, but not untill I finish this video!
                                                            THANK YOU VERY MUCH !! :) :)
