Title: is this normal that Jimmys Motors stutter?
Post by: Pleo-Freak55 on July 17, 2010, 05:00:18 AM
Hello Folks!

I have a very love Question on you: is this normal that the Motors from my Jimmy stutter or is that not normal?

A Man from the other has me declared that the motors from Pleo stutter and too normal is.

Here is a Copy from the man the that to me said has:

I have the Pleo already much longer than you Franzi and believe me it sounds neither battery nor for anything else. The Pleo is just so that you have to live with and if he positioned himself then it sounds just like times as.

Since there is no reason to panic to get. Moreover, as the little looks he's already pretty stressed out anyway.

And here is a Video where my little Baby from me pats will:

I can not hear the motors very well on your video, but what I can hear sounds perfectly normal. The changes in the motor sounds are the joints and pulleys moving inside.

Jimmy is a fine singer though :D

Jimmy sounds pretty normal to me, and sounds and acts like a normal little Pleo, He looks like a very happy little dino, It is plain to see in the videos that you love him very much and he loves you in return! I understand some of the video as my Deutsch is a little rusty, but it is easy to understand just by watching the videos,  ;D

Lovely videos :) Jimmy really seems to be moving just fine, the walking is always a little rough like that.

If you put some baby socks on Jimmy's feet he should walk a little better :)

Here's a video of my two Pleo's, do you see how they both have little booties to help them walk?

Hi Pleo-freak, I tryed listening to the sample you had listed, but nothing showed up? Has anyone else been able to play it, like you IMR,? I would be curious to listen to it, I do know that Pleos make lots of loud noises when their motors are moving and sometimes a leg motor for example can make a rater loud clicking noise which can be scary if you do not know if it is normal or not, I have also heard Nova's neck click and her foot drag sometimes and it makes a loud noise as well, I think from what I have heard they are all normal. Is the file you have of this noise allso on youtube? If so I can perhaps watch it there.

@ RWM the file does work, try turning your volume way up, it is very quiet.

There is a distinct stutter especially at the start.

Hi IMR and Franziska, thanks for posting this video to clarify the problem, Yes I can easily hear the " stutter' poor Jimmy makes, What I was trying to download and watch is the following:( Jimmy's motor sound, then says wave file, etc,) posted at 8.29 a,m and last edited, This is what I was trying to download and could not, ( told you I was a computer GEEK ;D :() Anyway, now I understand the problem and am very very sorry that you have this problem, Hopefully someone here will have a better idea of what the problem may be from a technical point, I surely do not...hopefully Jimmy continues to give you many years of pleasure, I know how attached we all are to our babies... :) I am wishing you luck that someone here can help with his problem or has a suggestion.

Commentary:
Looks and sounds normal to me.

When you press Pleo's neck, or if the neck is extended, you may hear more motor noise.
The motors are trying to hold the neck in place.

There will always be a little servo 'jitter' (tremors) with any robot, especially when the joints are stressed.
When it gets bad, you can use a spray can of contact cleaner to clean out the pots (little variable resistors on the legs and neck mechanisms)
In the case of the Pleo, it is next to impossible to get the skin off to clean them. It also means it is harder for dirt and dust to get in.

----
General advice:
If you are concerned that your Pleo is not typical, but you only have one Pleo:
Find a local friend with a Pleo, and set up a play date so you can compare Pleos.
