Title: Placed DIY battery wrong way around.
Post by: blurppp on June 30, 2010, 02:23:43 AM
Hi there !

I used a diy battery on a Pleo I bought used on ebay (it came without accessories).  Now my 2.5 year old daughter grew quite fond of it but she took the battery out and placed it back the wrong way around.  Since then Dino has no reactions at all.  Battery is still ok, tested both voltage and 10kohm resistance replacing the thermistor.

Tried flashing the shop demo firmware to unbrick it, without success (no reaction at all).

Does someone have an idea about what might have been damaged ?  Is there a voltage regulator which I might replace or have the CPU's received the inverted polarity directly and been damaged by it ?  Is Dino braindead ?  Can it be repaired ?

Thanks for your help !

The batteries that come with Pleo are designed so that you can't put them in the wrong way. I'm afraid I don't know very much about the batteries though hopefully Degers could provide some insight he knows more about Pleo's internal workings.

Unfortunately, diy Batteries can be inserted turned by 180 degrees thereby inverting the polarity of the voltage supplied to the pleo.  To be clear:  it is not a battery problem, I am afraid there is some damage to the electronics inside pleo.

Does Degers read the posts or do you advise to contact him directly (how ?)

Thanks for your help !

Hello blurppp!

I am sorry I can't help you here.  I have never reversed the polarity going into my Pleo, so I am really not experienced enough to tell you, however since the normal batteries have the safety feature that stops incorrect insertion, I hazard a guess that this is to prevent anything serious going wrong.  I think you may have bricked your pleo!  Sorry :(

This is totally not up my ally, but is it possible that the area inside of your pleo's battery component might have some dirt on it?  Perhaps the battery is not making a good connection.
