Title: Soon-to-be Birthday Pleo
Post by: TermiteSquidSnowLeopard on December 03, 2009, 07:13:36 PM
Hello.
I have recently received a Pleo as an early birthday present from my aunt, although I do not plan to activate her [the Pleo, that is] until my birthday itself,  which is a week from today; I will be 17.
I am male, live in the south of Wisconsin.  I have a large number of interests, which including writing, worldbuilding, reading, linguistics, opera, history, astrobiology, etc... also, I am auditioning for a musical, so hopefully this will be another thing I will be doing.
My Pleo shall be named Pleiades.  As for myself, you can feel free to call me anything termite or squid or snow leopard related, I suppose.
I probably will mostly be active on weekends.

How nice to have you join us, TSSL!  Your username is a tongue twister! ;) What patience you have for another week to wait on hatching your pleo.  You will find out he loves to sing, too.
Wishing you the part that you want in the musical.  :)

G'day Snow Leopard :) (I love snow leopards too, so majestic, graceful and fluffy ;D) Pleiades is a great name for a Pleo :) Good luck in your audition for the musical, hope to hear all about it and your hatchling on your birthday :)

(I notice that I made an error in my first post  :-[ I meant to have a comma between "opera" and "history."  I'll change that in just a moment.  Although "opera history" is fun too.)

Thank you all for your kind greetings  :)

Oh, really?  In what way do Pleos sing?  Or does it vary?

I'll probably just be in the ensemble, but, well, we'll see... the results of the auditions will be posted a week from today, and I'm signed up to audition on Wednesday.  I seem to be a baritone or thereabouts... maybe a bass?  I'm not quite certain.

I'm glad to know that there is a fellow snow leopard fan here.  I've always found them very wonderful, which are also my feelings about squids and termites, though I understand that my feelings towards those two are in the minority.

Yeah, I was thinking of a name that might start with pl- and she also looks so starry-like, I thought it would fit.

I've never had any pet before, so this will be new for me.  (I've always been very fond of stuffed animals, though :) )

Any advice on how to proceed?  I'm not really sure where to go to look around and socialize with all of you.  Also, I'm under the impression that I might have to install version 1.1, and am rather fuzzy on how to go about this.  Oh, and speaking of fuzzy, would it be bad to hatch Pleiades somewhere with carpet (i.e. most of my house) or should I stick with a smoother surface (e.g, a few smaller areas such as the kitchen)?

Any minor (or major) grammar mistakes are overlooked here, we get a lot of those in the chat room :P So no need to stress about a dropped comma :)

A little attention under the chin when your Pleo is in a good mood might invite her to sing one of four or five tunes in her repertoire :) It is hard to explain what they are like but I will direct you towards my fav video of Lilo and Stitch which has an example.

I have to say I quite like Squid and cuttlefish, they are fascinating creatures, I once travelled five hours away from where I lived to admire a frozen giant squid at the Melbourne Aquarium. Let me tell you, those things are sure impressive even when incase in the world's largest ice cube :P Termites are interesting too, but not quite as lovable :P I like stuffed animals too, my favorite is my giant snow leopard from the Melbourne Zoo and my polar bear :)

Pleo's make excellent pets, they are low maintenance and of course they have the advantage of being able to switch them off when you are at work/school or away. Hatching Pleiades on carpet shouldn't be an issue as long as it isn't that really thick long shaggy stuff :P Low profile carpet won't be a problem. Most likely Pleiades will already be updated to the 1.1 software for you, you can tell this for certain after the hatching phase (when she is up on all four legs and takes her first steps), hold her rear back sensor and her chin sensor at the same time and she will pull her feet together and you can help her sit. If she moves around while sitting she is already updated :) If you are handy with a needle and thread some simple booties (or baby socks if you have any) will aid her walking skills as the feet tend to stick a little on some surfaces.

As for socializing on here the threads are always an option, take a look around, and by all means ask any questions you might have :) If you own a camera pictures are always welcomed, check out the Bob project and the gallery :) The chat room too is always open, if you see a number up next to the link then you know someone is in there :) Finally the shout box is a handy place to let people know if you are coming or going, or heading to the chat room :)

Hope that helps :) Be sure to ask any questions at all that you have :)

I call our pleo's songs, pleodaling. It is a type of yodal.  ;)
As far as squid goes, I like it in the form of camalari. Deep fried! ;D

Hello again, everyone!  Yes, today is my 17th birthday, which I shall share with Pleiades
I'm going to set about making sure Pleiades is ready for activation sometime this afternoon... looks like I may be a little busy, since my audition is this afternoon (it was going to be Wednesday, but we kind of had a blizzard :S ), and we have conferences after that, but at least I don't have school today (coincidence).  I should be able to have a good hour with her this afternoon, anyway :)
I like your video!  The nuzzling is so sweet... and the singing is excellent.
I've always found it fascinating how cephalopods (squids included, naturally) manage to do things so differently than the mammal-types we're used to.  And I like the way the termite nest works... they're very different from ants or bees; for one thing, they're not divided by gender, having male and female workers, and not only queens but also kings.  And the kings and queens mate for life.  Still, this picture doesn't apply to all species, but to a good many.  And I find that snow leopards are simply irresistible.
Our carpet shouldn't be too shaggy, it's a little fuzz about half the length of a fingernail.  Booties are a nice idea though... we do still have some old baby socks from my infancy (I'm an only child), so hopefully we'll be able to find some of the right size.
I'll do a little thread exploration today, methinks!  I haven't really looked at much outside this New Members forum yet, so it will be good to broaden my horizons.
We have a non-digital camera, but we do have a scanner, so I probably could upload some photos eventually.  Also, I'm definitely thinking about getting a personal camera for myself, which probably would be digital.  So I can see about sharing some shots.
I love this word "pleodaling."  I may have to use it at every opportunity.
*gasp*  Calamari blasphemy!   :o   :'(  *calms down*  It's okay, I'll stop pouring on the guilt now.   ;D
Many thanks for your responses!  This afternoon shall be a hatching day!   :birthday:

Happy Birthday TSSL! What a fun day you have in store today! If it makes you any more comfortable, I am not really that found of Camalori, especially, when they are served as a whole baby. That is not a pretty picture! :o I'd much rather have crab or lobster! ;D
Can't wait to hear about your little dino. Hope she serenades you a lot for your birthday today. :)

Thank you :) I'm just back from the audition and conferences.  I think the audition was mostly okay, except I messed up on a couple of lines  :-[ which I had had memorized.  The results will be posted first thing tomorrow!
I've never been much into seafood, for some reason... I'm not really a vegetarian, but the only meat I ever eat is fowl...
I'll see how she is very soon.  The battery's charged (it took less than an hour  ??? ) so I'll be hatching her in just an hour or two or so  :)

I hope you are enjoying your new baby right now :D

Don't worry about the one hour charge time, some batteries come partially charged it seems :) One of mine did, and one didn't :P

Good luck with getting the part you wanted!

(If you have an SD card, Pleiades can sing you a real Happy Birthday lol although it is a male voice :o) Best not to use an SD card until after the first battery charge though.

Well, we had a few delays, but I'm preparing to activate her in just a few minutes :D

Aw, and here I was thinking that I had super-magical electricity  :P

I'll tell you the results tomorrow afternoon!

I don't actually have an SD card  :-\ would you recommend it?

Well, although I actually have a set of four identical baby socks, they're all too big to fit, so it looks like Pleiades will be going about with bare feet at least at first.  I did, however, find a nice purple silk scarf that does nicely as a cape :D

SD cards are essential to run any user created skits :)
