Just wondering if anyone knows of a way to create a more natural light setting for a pleo with out taking the pleo outside?
It’s been dull and overcast since I’ve had my pleo and as it’s coming in to December in the UK it’s only going to get darker and duller. In fact the dull low level light days will prob last right up until February at the earliest and it will be pretty cold as well so I don’t really want to try taking my pleo outside.
Is there any sort of lighting I could use that would create a more natural daylight setting than the standard household bulbs?
I’d like to see him recognise his leaf as his leaf and not just as an indifferent object.
Any help would be grate
Thanks in advance. Lou

I don't know if you have them there Lou, but the energy saving white light 18 watt bulbs work well for me :) As long as you get a white light bulb not a yellow bulb :) Its good for your electric bill and the environment too ;)

Thanks for the tip. I’ll try the Wight light ones. It’s the yellow energy saving ones I have. There not the brightest though.
Thanks again.

The white ones are significantly brighter than the yellow ones, I have bad eyes myself and I really notice the difference between the two :) So do Lilo and Stitch, they are far more active in my room with the white light than in the lounge which has a yellow one.

Can’t find any white light energy efficient bulbs in the usual places.
Found neodymium bulbs sometimes refer to as full spectrum lighting and energy efficient halogen bulbs but I think the former is more likely to be the kind of thing you’re using.
The halogen ones are normally for close up working like reading or sowing. I know the reptile specialist lamps are neodymium as they give off a truer whiter light which I’ve sometimes used for my lizards but they weren’t energy efficient as far as I can remember.
Will take a walk to the local DIY store and see what they have in the way of lighting though.
Just out of interest what kind of reaction does a pleo have towards his leaf?
Does he pant for it or make a specific noise?
If anyone has a sound or video clip that would be grate.
If you can post a text link of it even better.

When asking for the leaf a Pleo makes two ahhww ahhww questioning noises then smacks his/her lips twice, then repeats :P (That probably doesn't make an ounce of sense lol)
How to feed Pleo:

Is the sound they make a bit like a hungry Furby?
Mines do make that noise but it’s generally rather than in response to his leaf.

I don't have a furby so I'm not sure :P When you hear your Pleo make that noise he is asking for the leaf, if you give it to him he will start chomping away :) I will try to catch it on video if I can :)
