Title: Battery Leakage?
Post by: Malfie on October 13, 2010, 07:43:44 PM
I had a little friend arrive in the post for Pleo yesterday ;) I've called her Tooie (she was dressed in pink!) and she came from eBay. She's in very good condition but I think running the original OS, but I'm mainly concerned about the battery. I had it on charge for over 3 hours until the light went green, and when I picked it up it had some black blotches on it. At first I thought it must be ink or something on my hands, but when I charged it for the second time, the same thing happened again and my hands were definitely clean. Obviously she is quite old but not been used very much, which means the battery has not been used probably for quite some time. It only gave me 30 minutes with her last night but I'm more concerned about the black blotches. Could the battery be leaking?

It definitely could be leaking and I would avoid using that battery and throw it in the bin. Leaking batteries are dangerous and could damage your Pleo, be careful because battery acid is bad for your skin too.

OK, I think you may be right. I know the battery is at least 3 years old and also hasn't been used in a long time. I'm now frightened to charge it up again, so it looks like I'll need to buy a new one :(

Yep - don't risk it.  Personally, I'd replace it with a Ucube battery, and charger if necessary. ;)

You are certainly having a bad run with the batteries but never mind, better safe than sorry. Batteries are so much easier to replace than a Pleo.

I agree with Crewella though, the white ucube batteries aren't that much more expensive but they are so much better :)

Thanks for that. I've ordered a Ucube one :) Would like two really, but I'm having to save my pennies for a certain new addition to my Pleo family :P

I think there's a few of us doing that, Malfie!  ;)

I'm stuck with a new addition I can't yet use as well - be patient, it will work out!  You're gonna loooooove the Ucube! :D
