I got frustrated dealing with the battery packs, and modified our Pleo by soldering a 6-AA holder into it. Here are detailed instructions: http://www.instructables.com/id/Run-Pleo-on-AA-batteries/ (http://www.instructables.com/id/Run-Pleo-on-AA-batteries/)

Interesting, thank you!

How would you charge this battery pack once it's depleted? Later down the road, would you have to build and solder another in its place once the older batteries lost their ability to hold a charge?

As far as I can see, Talon, you can easily remove the individual AA batteries from the new pack for recharging or replacement.

Exactly: it's just a bunch of AA batteries that can go in and out.
I did notice that it's running out faster than I like, though. Maybe the batteries I am using are a bit too old. Or maybe it really needs the thermistor that the original battery pack has (though from online information, it shouldn't need it).

I did wonder about the thermistor. ;)

Interesting hack, keep us posted on its long term success won't you?
