Title: Battery Overheating???
Post by: Malfie on October 11, 2010, 07:06:52 PM
My little Pleo is having some problems again :( The battery seems OK in that it takes around 3 hours to charge, which gives Pleo 1 hour, if not a little over, of life. But he's stopped snoring and going into the sleep position when the battery's running low. He just stops dead/freezes :'( When I pick him up to turn him off, his tummy is very hot like the battery has overheated. Or could this possibly be a Pleo problem and not a battery problem?

Nothing to worry about, over heating batteries is normal, let it cool completely and try turning Pleo on to make sure it is fully drained. Sometimes if the battery is low and hot Pleo just shuts down for safety.

As IMR says.  Iggy sometimes just shuts down when his battery runs down, rather than going into sleep - he's done that since I got him, so I don't think it's anything to worry about.  Both Iggy and Budge occasionally shut down if their battery gets too hot.  :)

Phew! Thanks for the replies. I thought he was dying on me again %) I have tried letting him cool, then switching him back on, but all I get is a grunt then he stops again. Yes, I think it must be that the battery just gets very low and very hot at the same time.

It often happens with batteries not quite up to full capacity, all mine started doing that as they wore out. Pleo does stop because of overheating too though which is why I recommend checking to make sure it is fully drained :)

I think it must get fully drained as he runs for over an hour and I can get nothing more from him but one grunt after switching him on again %) I think I'll probably have to think about investing in a new battery for him soon because it does get so hot.

The temperature is normal, I can only run my Pleo's for about twenty minutes in the summer before my green batts overheat, looking forward to seeing if the Ucube ones do any better since they seem to run a little cooler.

Yes, I'd be interested to know too as I don't really know anything about the other available batteries.

Well I can't test it until Summer arives here in another two months ;) But I can tell you the ucube (white batteries) can be bought here on the forum and they give two hours of run time instead of just one :) They are really good batteries :)
