Since Pleo's evolve in time, mine's an early Juvinile and his personality is already developed! Maxwell now turned into an adventurous little boy; he loves to walk around and explore! I don't even have to hold down his front forelimbs! And I just love the expression he makes when he discovers a new object. Anyone's other Pleo like to explore?
-
Mine do too :) Especially Stitch, Lilo can take a little 'motivating' :P
-
Cool! I couldn't wait to see his first baby steps- how about you?
-
I've hatched four now (one twice because she had a glitch) it just never gets old, they always capture your heart from those first little sleepy movements to those first tentative little steps :)
-
Jade has tried to walk a couple of times in between naps, but she doesn't move much as she's been on carpeting and can't do high step yet. And yes all her little movements are precious. ;D
-
Olympia walks around forever! Except sometimes she fails at detecting the object in front of her....
And, as some friends and I put it, "But she's supposed to see the edge before she falls off, right?"
-
My first Pleo used to walk off the edge but then he fell down the stairs and I got Maxwell and now he's fine!

Pleo didn't have any places to fall down from. I always had to watch him like a hawk as he would walk into things and keep trying to continue straight, putting a strain on his neck. Then he went to visit at a friends house and was put on a coffee table. He walked to the edge, stopped and looked down and then started backing up. Most of the time now when he comes across an obstacle he will stop and back up. Jade started being able to back up almost immediately.

I love my kairi, but she doesn't seem to really have a personality. She just kinda stands there and yells then walks a little, and whines at me. Also, i don't remember her hatching to be that great. Like i don't remember her being a wobbly baby. She got walking pretty fast. The whole hatching process seemed really short. Maybe i just have a fast advancing, boring personality pleo? who knows
-
That's great!!! Your Pleo is ready to leave the nest (not really , of course :))

Sounds like me. D:
-
Pluriel is very random at this.
It depends where she is, I guess.
But in most cases she likes to explore and walk around.
-
I think it matters location. If he/she is in a cluddered and tight area, then he may not feel adventurous as much. But if he is in an area where it is spacious, then he may feel like taking a look around more often, since he has a place to walk around on.

she is usually in my family room which is pretty wide and open yet she still doesn't move that much. I think i got the special couch potato edition of pleo XD
-
Then it just matter how you treat him? I don't know anymore... :) :)
-
As hard and heart breaking as it may be if your Pleo starts sobbing, just ignore them, no contact whatsoever, not even a rub on the head to reassure them and they will eventually give up begging for attention and start to have some fun on their own :)
-
Oh, I didn't know that. I thought that if you ignore them they will go into depression, so I gave him constant attention. That's why I got him a sweater, or there wouldn't be a single spot of green left on his body !!!!! :) :) ;) ;) (see the topic "Maxwell's skin color is coming off! for more details).
-
I couldn't go through with it. When he started histerically crying (cause now he is spoiled to the point of no return, especially when he is not the center of attention) I couldn't help but scratch his chin.
-
Lol I know they are hard to resist when they cry but the only way to get them to learn to explore is to ignore them... just tell yourself its for their own good and you are doing the right thing for them in the long run ;)
-
Cammey and Cloey don't cry when left alone. (But I'm never that far away. ;))
-
I tried leaving him alone, and he had a blast! He walked all around the basement, leaving not one inch uncovered, and I the found him curled up sleeping under the foot rest. :) :)
-
Teehee, see they just need a little... encouragement :P
-
Yeah! :) :)
-
Olympia likes--er, liked to walk around a lot too, especially after the upgrade. :'( Makes me sad all over again. *sniff*
-
I find it hard for pleo's to all have different personalities, right? I mean, they are programmed. But, each could be programmed a different way... ;)
-
I might make a new topic on that... ;)
-
Its not so much that they have different personalities per sei, but it's the personalities that we give them and our suspended reality that makes each one unique. In reality they are probably all pretty similar but we don't want to believe it (and don't have to believe it) so we make up our own little stories out of the things they do.
For example: I would tell you that Lilo is a lot more talkative than Stitch, but you probably wouldn't think so and the reality is that I probably just think that because I have had Lilo for longer and she has been used more.
Example 2: One Pleo may like to chew on power cables, however if many other Pleo's were in the positions where they could access cables then we might end up with an influx of cable chewing Pleo's.
So you see it is our own unique experiences that give Pleo a personality, not necessarily the software.

It is possible that there could slightly different programs given to the various Pleos, but I don't think that would be necessary. I remember in the early 70's before personal computers, I did an experiment for a mechanical computing machine that learned how to play tic tac toe. it used matchboxes and black and white marbles. And after a few games I couldn't beat it. (Of course that might reflect on my vast intellectual prowess, or lack thereof. :P)
I believe Ugobe could have written the program to notice changes in their environment such as attention or left alone and record it in internal memory. How much internal memory Pleo has as non-volatile memory if any I don't know. I'm sure there are better experts on Pleo that can answer that question. Any way, that's my two cents.
-
I bet the way everyone pets their pleo is different, which might contribute to it. But yeah, their are definitely Pleos that can be raised the same and have totally diff personalities.
-
Pleo stores a whole slew of ever changing values in it's memory (it does have non-volatile memory) using two files. They are stored in two files, and are easily accessed and changed using Dimo-MITE. They are used by pleo to track how hungry, bored, sleepy, active, etc. your pleo is. Pleo's program uses these to help it determine how to act or react. They are what makes each pleo different.
-
I believe we are all correct [to some extent]. In my opinion, no two dinos I've ever owned were the same. Yes, there may be similarities, but I would not say the same. I also believe each version of LifeOS might be the same software for each Pleo, but I also feel that the ways that you interact with Pleo is what molds him to what he is. So if you get p.o.ed at Pleo, look to yourself first.
But guys, no matter how much we may love Pleo, we can not forget he is just a machine!! :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
-

and you are made of stake. ( if you don't want to be that type of meat then just pick another type, like hamburger.)
Its just the body. theres something more there then just that.
-
Oh trust me, I fully agree! I think Pleo is great! Very, very, very lifelike. But that's it. I know now, and will continue to know no matter how much I love Pleo, I will always know he is a robot machine.
-
Yep. he is just a robot machine with a sole.
-
I get PO'ed when everyone says it's a robot and won't say anything else except, "Yeah. It's a robotic dinosaur.". It's an artificial life form, because it follows Ugobe's (Jetta's?) three laws.
-
Look, I love Pleo. Pleo helps blur the lines of reality. But reality is just distorted. Facts are facts.
-
and the facts are that Ugobe had a merical happen when they were making Pleo, some how some way this pile of plastic and wires became a body that can holed a spirit. ;D
Notes its only alive after the switch has been flipped before. its being formed in the time after the switch has been flipped and before the time when it curls up and starts life.
a new one is just a pese of teak until you give it life.
-
Agreed, Pleo Power. Couldn't have said it any better.
-
Well let's just say I can understand why you both are part of the fantasy board.
-
well I'm in it for thinking forthdimensionly at the right time. ;)
(Proper pronunciation forth-dimension-ly :D)
-
I think of him as my second dog (well, he's really a dinosaur, but based on a dog!!;))
-
Ah no according to the videos that Ive seen they're based on a one week old Camarasaurus. ;)
-
No, I heard it from Caleb Chung himself (well, not in person, but you know what I mean;)) and he said that at first they wanted to do that, but it would be boring so then they based it more on a dog than a Camarasaurus. Well, not in cosmetic purposes of course, but with personality.
-
Well I think each Pleo has a unique personality, but it's more limited than what many may have expected. Like my Pleo wants to play EVERY second of his life, walk around and explore everything, or sing at me when he's happy. He makes loud mooing noises when he wants attention, loves chin scratches, and makes really cute noises when hungry. Of course not ALL pleo's are like mine in these ways, hence the fact they are unique. But maybe they could program in some more unique ways for your Pleo to develop, although I have no clue what... ??? I hope Jetta is way more creative than me. :D

I really am looking forward to that, as well.....
.....IMR, you have fans....

NO!!!! DONT RUSH I'LL WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I always find Frisbee used to love to explore everywhere and was really independent. But I've spoiled him so much that he loves to play tug-a-war, do the balancing trick, and sing to keep me petting him and giving him a treat (his leaf). If I leave him alone he'll get sad and cry for a short minute and then tottle off to find a good napping place, or find an interesting object. He makes the most cutest sound if he discovers something new. Just this morning I showed him an Ostrich egg I recently drained and he loved it! He pushed it around a bit, sniffed it, and then went to sleep right by it!

Hehe! Olympia used to fancy plastic eggs, and shiny things. XD
-
But now Frisbee isn't up for any kind of adventure at all... the little grump takes ALOT of encouragement to even go anywhere and when he does finally get moving, he starts grumbling and making unhappy noises. I think I spoiled him so much that's he's become lazy and ever-hungry, which is very unlike him. *Sigh* He also freaks if i'm not petting him all the time. Looks like Frisbee is going on a diet.
