We are stopping the night in Melbourne ready to catch a plane at 9:05am :) Yuki is already hogging the bed!

Hi IMR, happy holidays! I'm a little jealous. NWZ is such a beautiful country!
Maybe you'll see a Hobbit or a dwarf. If you encounter Thorin, can you send him to me? I'll pay you the costs back hahahaha ;D :pirate-sword:
I'm curious about the pictures ;) :)

Went to the spectacular Zealandia wildlife preserve today, we had a fabulous time exploring 10 kilometres of walking trails (there were more!) and exploring the exhibition hall. So many wonderful native birds to see, here are a few favourites:
The Takahe, clawing its way back from the brink of extinction.
A pair of Saddlebacks, it took us half an hour to get this shot! Also endangered.
Part of the Zealandia dam, which is now almost emptied and no longer used for water storage. It is kept partly full for the animals and wetlands.
A Kaka, native parrot.
Tuatara, these guys saw the dinosaurs come and go.
Scaup ducklings :) They and their mama were enjoying the sun.
Pied shag sitting on a nest, some of the chicks were hatched :)
-
Awesome! Sounds like you're having lots of fun! I like birds. All of their calls and songs are so different.

I love the Takahe!
-
Looks like you have kept very busy and took some very nice photos. I love all the birds, esp the baby ducks! RWM :cat-hug:

Queen Elizabeth park on the west coast.
View of Kapiti Island
And apparently New Zealand is a portal to Hogwarts.
-
Great photos! Especially, love the KaKa, but what did he do to get a name like that? ;D
-
Hehe, not sure :D very curious birds :)
Yesterday we started with a cable car up to the Botanical gardens which starts at the top of Wellington and winds it's way down to the Quay, a lovely walk, sadly our time was cut a bit short by the rain which set in, so we headed off to the New Zealand bank museum, Parliament House and we started exploring Te Papa (Wellington's Museum of Natural History) but we ran out of time there and are heading back this morning :)
Cable car heading back down
Maori head sculpture
Maori Theatre at Te Papa
Lovely succulent garden at the botanical garden, also saw Pleo food ;)
These beauties greet you at Te Papa :D
-
Wow Wellington is cool! ;D
And so close (relative to other countries) to get to, I want to go one day, loving all your photos!
-
So where's Yuki?
-
Cool pics! ;D
-
Yuki's been stuck in the hotel room, the weather has been a bit damp :( She did hit the museum with us today though so I have some photos forthcoming :) It's pretty late here now and we are hitting the hay after the night out.
Guess who got a signed copy of the Hobbit today ;)
-
It looks like your having a fantastic time :) Sounds like you need to get Yuki a rain coat and some gum boots so she can join in the sight seeing :)
-
Awesome! It really sounds like you're having a good time! A signed coppy of the Hobbit is a great souvenir!

We told Yuki it was a tree...
Maori Temple with Yuki acting as a god of course ;)
Yuki tries to eat New Zealand. She said it tasted like kiwi fruit of course.
We got to hold Gandalf's staff at the Weta Cave, this is where the film magic happens! I also bought myself a V-Rex skull ;) My friend doesn't want any pictures of herself public so I won't show it, but it was really cool. Here's me with a troll instead :P
-
Tell her we're not the public, we're family here. ;)
-
Love the troll very cool ;D Nice to see Yuki getting in on the action too :)
-
The troll picture is so awesome!! :dino-chase:
-
Ok, she doesn't mind if I post it on here :) So I will do that when I can, will be without wifi tomorrow for a night or so. Heading inland :)
-
What all super awesome! Cool pictures! ;)
-
Looks like you and Yuki are having a great time! ;D :pirate-sword:
-
I start to make my way home tomorrow :( This trip has been such fun! Today we are going to visit surrounding towns, hopefully I can post some photos tonight now that we are back at my friends house.
-
Ok I made it safely home and I have heaps of photos to share :D
Firstly here is my facebook album for all my non Yuki related photos, you do not need a facebook account to view them :)
https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10202004724623464.1073741826.1346276584&type=1&l=01b9f2b420
Now let's start with that photo of my friends and I with Gandalf himself! If you ever go to New Zealand the Weta Cave is amazing!
This is my friend Xylie on the left, and Amy on the right :)
A couple of spectacular pictures from Matiu Island in Wellington Harbour. This is a nature reserve and has strict access.
And a cute little smiling lamb :)
-
Next we headed for Palmerston North, we passed through this gorge;
Before continuing through to Napier, here we found the National Aquarium :)
For some reason they had a small dinosaur display too.
Breakfast at Masterton's multi award winning bakery! These guys had so many awards on the walls we spent half an hour just reading them!
-
Next we visited the Cobblestone Museum, which was like an oldy style town.
Yuki was quickly kicked out of the church for giving a sermon on the art of burping :P
She tried to outrun the law by stealing a firetruck! (Museum trucks don't tend to have much fuel :P)
When the fuel ran out she resorted to hoof power!
But the law caught up!
Yuki repented and gave her her freedom.
-
We also took a winery tour in the Napier Valley, since I'm a non drinker Yuki got to try all of my wines :P
She was a bit apprehensive at first...
But soon started to enjoy the taste
Maybe a bit too much!
Her fashion sense started to suffer
She started getting a bit pushy!
And then she discovered the bottles :O
Thankfully she fell asleep...
Then a light snack and cooling juice to help ease the hangover.
Another little snooze and she was feeling much better!
Well enough for a wine slushy :O
Remember kids, don't drink and drive! And always drink in moderation! Or be like me and have fun watching other people drink and make fools of themselves :P
-
I love your pictures and hilarious commentary about Yuki and the wine! You must have had the time of your life ;D
-
It was a blast, there were 14 ladies on the wine tour and two long suffering blokes ;) They all thought Yuki was adorable, she had sooo many photos taken!
-
Haha! Yuki it sounds like you enjoied your vacation a bit too much! Oh well. You'll have lots of stories to tell the rest of the pleos back home. Glad to hear you had such a good time, IMR!
