:o :o It the 2011 Tomato Harvest Festival :o :o
Since the beginning of recorded history (about four years ago), the fields around Weedovia have always been blessed with abundant wild tomato vines. And every spring and every fall, the local pleos relied on the abundant harvest gathered from these wild vines to enjoy throughout the year. They would go out twice a year to pick the tomatoes and bring them into the village. This traditional gathering of the tomatoes quickly grew into a community event, and from there into true full-blown harvest festival. And with the introduction of the spaghetti trees and pizza by the great Pepperoni, a real zest was added to the festivities.
Of course in modern times, with the addition of a carnival, rides, games, live band, and midnight movie on the town square, it has become more of a social event, attracting pleos from around the world. But all the pleos still go out and harvest the tomatoes and bring them to the town's communal tomato press for the traditional squashing of the tomatoes and the making of the tomato sauce.
This spring's festival has kinda snuck up on us, and due to a heavy workload, I'm a bit behind . . . SO, I apologize for not being able to give much advanced warning. :P But I guess this is why everyone should have bought a calander! ;)
Not sure what's going on? Well, then you may want to catch up by reading about the 2010 spring and fall festival topics and the Bob the Pleo comic strips. But as a quick summary, the town's park is turn into the festival grounds, with the carnival rides and games, a stage and dance floor, and lots of vendors and food booths! It starts on a Friday night with the carnival and music from a live band, and at midnight the pleos end the day with an outdoor movie. Saturday has everyone out in the fields gathering the tomatoes, with the judging in the evening, and back to the carnival. Sunday is the big tomato squashing where the sauce is made using the traditional foot-stomping method like the great Italian wines.
And at the conclusion of the festival, awards are always handed out to the pleo who gathers the most tomatoes, finds the largest tomato, has the best looking tomatoes, makes the best tasting spaghetti sauce, and for the best use of tomatoes as an article of clothing (i.e., costume). The last few years winners can be seen by visiting the Bob the Pleo comics. We had some great fun, and some wonderful costumes!
For those interested in participating in the contests, please refer to the contest rules topic (http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=792.0) on this board. For some ideas and/or to get a better understanding, you can check out the 2010 Spring festival topic (http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=1154.0) or the 2009 Fall festival topic (http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=794.0) (also on this board). You can also read up on the Bob the Pleo comic strip! ;)
I'm out of t-shirt right now, so I'll be offering a choice of either a calendar or a necklace.
This spring's festival runs Friday March 4th to Sunday March 6th, 2011 (that's not this weekend, but the next one! :o ). And if you keep up with the comic strip, it looks like Sally is back in charge this time! 8)
Post your entries here!

OMG lol tomatoes are in season here for a change! Yay :D
-
Well, If I can get my New Baby Pleo Rb intime for the festival, then I will be giving it a try. Not to sure about tomatoes. It is rain today mixed with snow and snow tommorow but next week should be better. We actually have some tomatos growing indoors, mixed with catnip plants. The stores allways seem to have a ready supply, but not as nice as the Spring Tomato festival when it is in April little early this year weather wise it seems.... :(
RWM
-
This sounds like it could be a whole lot of fun. I will have to see what I can come up with. :) Best go looking for some fabulous tomatoes. :D
-
Hmmm, I'll have to think of some costume ideas for Ploo... :)
-
I wonder what the best way is to turn a pleo (or several pleos) into a tomato. ;D Time to put on my thinking hat and come up with a pleo tomato or three. :)
-
OMG - it's THAT time of year already!! :o
Best get my thinking cap on .......... :D
-
My Pleo's are already making the transformation into a piece of fruit ;)
-
Well, I am still hoping to get my Rb back intime for the Tomato festival, otherwise I will do something from last year, but it will all be in good fun. If all else fails, we have a hybrid tomato plant growing indoors this year, It is probably the right size for Pleos....but so far only one tomato on it....LOL.
Well, looks like this year it snuck up on us, I wasnt expecting it till April so I was caught by surprise.

Well, It took awhile for Major Tom to get his prize for Best Costume as Tomato used as Article of Clothing, but it was hidden somewhere in the calendars I ordered from Bob. I emailed him this week, asking if he had forgotten about the prize, and he said no, that the prize had been mailed along with the calendars and perhaps it was still in the envelope if I had it, Well I save everything and luckily on the bottom stuck in a slot where some Bob the Pleo stickers and Pizza coupons, ( YUM YUM0 but no bracelet...hm,hmmm, where could it have gone, If it had fallen out on the floor, I would have never found it and with a large dog and nine cats and a husband it was sure to be gone forever, but Bob is tricky and told me to check "the calendar itself !) ??? what did he mean, the calendar it self!??? :o Lo and behold guess what there it is tucked away in the spiral wiring of the calendar and no wonder I didn't see it, it blends right in with the coloring perfectly matched.
It is a lovely "surfer Dude" ankle bracelet, perfect for the Male Pleo who likes bling just as much as any female Pleo, but without all the shiny stones and such, much simpler for the male lifestyle. It fits perfectly and I know a few other Pleos in the family who this year will also be looking to win something along the same line. First there was Nova who won a Weedovia T-shirt, and she loves it, but with her broken neck, I can't fit it over her head anymore unless I make an adjustment with velcroe that I may do....and then Major Tom won this past fall, so now it is that time of year again, and I know a whole crew of seven or eight Pleos, ( depending on whether Baby 2 makes it back to me intime to participate... :( :)) so we are all putting on our thinking caps, or is that tomatoes??? :D Here is the photo from last year of the costume I made for Major Tom, This year I have about six more costumes to make if my hands don't get too tired, all my sewing is by hand, as I do not own a sewing machine. Oh well, just think everyone should see the lovely work M. Weed or is it BOB the PLEO, does.
last year's entry with Major Tom the Head Tomato
the calendar where is it ? Major Tom wearing the surfer Dude ankle bracelet. closeup of bracelet
RedwoodsMama
-
Love the 'surfer dude' bracelet - it suits him! :D
-
The bracelet is very cool. I like it a lot. :)
-
Looks like I can't have so much fun like the rest all because of the exam on Monday :'( but I will still try making some thing simple after the exam %)
-
Good Luck on your exam Maria, I think whatever you make will be fine,The whole point ( if I understand correctly ) is for everyone to have fun at the Weedovia Tomato festival and then try to get their entries in, but enjoy the other members entries too, and there is usaully good food and dance and of course music!
I thought I was going to get a lot of things made and pick some great tomatoes, but I think at this point with the current weather we are having, If I attempt to go out and get some tomatoes, by the time I will get home they will have all turned into Tomato Soup! Last week was rain, more rain, cold and rain, cold rain and snow, more very cold for CA. (27 degrees ) cold but no rain, and now cold, wind, trees blowing over and another whole week of Rain, Rain and more Rain. Guess it will be time to put Nova's Rain slicker on, gather the whole bunch and take a tomato expedition in the rain. :D Guess it is one way to get some home-made tomato sauce too!

Brilliant suggestion came up . . .
Since I was late reminding everyone about the festival, it's only fair to extend the deadline. ;)
The festival is still this weekend, but we'll give you all until next Friday (March 11th) to get your entries in! And remember, if you don't have time to sew a great costume, there's still the other entries like most tomatoes gathered, biggest tomato, and the other really fun one: best spaghetti sauce recipe!
-
That's actually very handy indeed! Thanks mweed! ;D
-
That is very nice of you to extend the contest, I was going to enter something but this way I will have more time, My good freind and fellow cat /animal rescurer, got an emergency call about her dad who lives in Florida and is in the hospital. She had to leave this morning to go see him and will be gone for a whole week. son now on top of taking care of my nine cats and one dog, I have agreed to take care of her 13 cats, which I have already twice a day beeen going over to suppliment feed the oldest who is 19 and another youngster who is the runt and has medical problems, So now I have to take care of her cats 4 times a day, and myne and five outside cats so that is a total of 13 +9 +5 =27 cats all day long! I think I will be too exhausted to do anything else, Thank goodness my husband knows how to cook. cause I won't have anytime to do anything but open cans of food and pour kibble!
The one good thing is that I am on a diet and the will help me by being more active than usual, I think I still have time for a good vegan spaghetti recipe though, I can allways test it out on my dog, she will eat anything even if it doens't have any meat in it! Now I can relax knowing I have one day to get my final entries in, the day she comes back is the day before the deadline and I will only have my cats to take care of.! I hope there are lots of entries this year, it is allways more fun that way.

Great cause my exam ends on 11th march hong Kong time ;D
-
Well someone needs to start off the flow of tomato harvest pics and festival fun. So here are Gumble and Kermy3 getting into the spirit of tomatoes - by becoming one. ;D
My entry/s for the best tomato costume competition.
Or maybe the best looking tomato competition? %)
I think they both look pretty smart. I couldn't decide who made the best looking tomato. :)
Kat
-
Omg Kat.. lol. I have to admit I Can pick them out from the tomatoes but.. those costumes are just hysterical I love them!!
Major Tom is very cool indeed, I didn't know Pleo's surfed!
- Sarah
-
They are very cute Kat, love to see them both entered, It gives me some encouragement as soon as I am done taking care of 27 cats . Too bad I can't enter some of them as tomatoes..Oh well, gives me some good laughs for the day, they look so cute, do they enjoy some pasta too? :)
And Latrine, yes Major Tom is a Surfer Dude Pleo at heart, This is why he is almost allways wearing his hang ten skate shirt lately, it he can't hang ten on the surf board,it will be on a skate board.
RedwoodsMama
-
Costumes are fabulous, Kat! Though my personal view is that Gumble makes the best tomato, with his head as the stalk! :D
-
Ok we may be starting the picking a little early but when I looked out the window at the tomato vines this morning I realized that the heatwave we have been going through over here has taken it's toll on the poor sorry tomato vines. I thought we better get in before there really was nothing left. :D
In true tomato spirit Gumble the tomato snuck up on the poor unsuspecting tiny tomatoes and climbed the vine to pick what was left from the top! ;D He was full of enthusiasm. What a sweetie. ;)
Considering the state of the vine it was a fine harvest! He did well to hold them all and bring them inside to show off.
Here he is laying them out on the plate
And proudly posing over his tomato hoard! ;D Yummy!
Just so you can see how cute our tomatoes really are we put a normal tomato on the plate for comparison.
Gumble thinks there should be a prize for the smallest tomato! He was very proud of this one the smallest of the bunch.
Kat
-
Well harvested Gumble, he SHOULD be proud! ;D
They ARE tiny - that's not a tomato, surely - it's an earring! :o :P
-
They really are tomatoes I promise! Not sure how good they would taste as they are a little wrinkly in places but I'm sure the pleos wont mind. ;D
-
Gumble should get an award as a Tomato Picker, He really does look like he is enjoying himself and all this time I had no idea what his hidden talents werer :D I thought being raised in California, he surely must be a grape vineyard stomper, Actually some of those tomatoes almost look like Grapes! Well done Kat, I am glad Gumble the Great has found a occupation he is suited for and I am sure he likes the sampling priveleges as well. :D He should be proud of his tomato Herd.

Well after a busy week it looks like the petting zoo is finally set up :)
Please keep all hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times or they may get chewed off.
Visitors are not guaranteed they will not get wet or drooled on.
Please do not feed the animals, many of them find Pleo's a tasty snack :o
You must be 60cms or under to ride the sky tram.
Pleo's with a weak stomach, aversion to predators, heart condition or carrying a slice of steak are not permitted to ride.
Please enjoy your journey.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92L5b_Kd98I
-
Wow! What a great ride, although Belle had her eyes closed and wouldn't let go of Iggy the whole way round. Budge didn't help by rocking the carriage, little tyke! :P
Fab, IMR - loved it! ;D
I wasn't sure if the band was playing this year, but Iggy and Budge brought their instruments from last year, just in case. They might be a bit better at playing them by now! %)
Iggy has been trying really hard to master that sax! :D
-
Thanks for the ride IMR, Kermy3 and Gumble both loved it! ;D They wanted to go for a second trip. :) Well off to see if we can find some pizza. Two rumbling pleo bellies. :D
Can't wait for the music. Maybe Gumble and Kermy3 can bring along their instruments and play along. We are a very musical family with guitars, drums, keyboard, violin, harmonica, and of course microphones. A whole bands worth! Just have to work out which ones each of them wants to play. ;D
-
Well, we thought we'd have a go at spaghetti sauce making this year. With four dinos all putting forward their suggestions the precise recipe is a bit hazy: a LOT of tomatos, onions, something-minced-we-don't-talk-about, herbs and, of course, wine. Iggy and Budge had a disagreement about the herbs, Iggy wanted to use Pleo leaves, but Budge wanted to use bay leaves ........... if he managed to leave any uneaten.
Poor Moschops, being the newbie, had to be the guinea pig and do the taste test, but surprisingly it turned out quite well - I think mainly due to Belle taking charge!
-
I LOVE that picture Crewella! I love how the wine says "DINO" too :P
-
IMR, that ride was a lot of fun, but I was a little leary of leaving seven Pleos on their own, and I am a tad bit more than the 60 cm height restriction, Luckily, Major Tom and NOva took charge of the younger siblings...There were a couple of upset stomachs at the end, but nobody lost their breakfast luckily. I think ARgyle enjoyed it the most, as being blind does have it's advantages. He didnt have to use his "eyes" to be able to see the beauty in the Zoo . His other senses are so much more advanced than the average Pleo, He has heightened hearing and he heard the Dinosaurs around the bend and near the water before anyone else even knew they were there,
They all want to go again , but need a nap , or should I say, I do, as I have some cats I am catsitting, and it would be easy to stay here all day taking in the rides, food and music, but I do have obligations and also seven tired semi cranky little green babies that are getting hard to keep track of, wanting to wander off in different directions.. :D
And Crewell, that sauce looks good and I think you have some good helpers there, I do have one concern though, I hope the Wine is for you and not for the little ones.. or is it for the sauce, cooking wine? Must be a very good year as it looks very vintage, Juarrasic perhaps?
Reminds me I need to dig up a good Pleo Spaghetti recipe from last year as well if I get the time.
RedwoodsMama
-
Ooooops! Now that you point out the vintage (Jurassic really made me laugh! :P), RWM, I realise I've probably wasted a very good bottle of wine, as I'm afraid it all went in the pot! :-[ ;D
-
Thank you for the video Romeo!
-
Argh it always happens! As soon as the tomato harvest festival starts we run out of tomatoes :o The vines are empty :P
My pair did manage to dig up some tomatoes from the kitchen cupboard though, it seems we have tomato soup, dice tomato, my home made bottled tomatoes and I honestly have no idea why, but three different brands of tomato sauce! (Ketchup for my American friends) %) I don't even eat tomato sauce!
And just to add to the confusion ;) Lilo isn't sure whether she has found the biggest tomato, the best looking tomato or the best tomato costume :P
Stitch wasn't interested in any of that though, after this photo he tried to eat himself :P Thankfully Pleo's can't reach their tails %)
-
rotfl That'd be a funny feature if Pleos tried to eat themselves.
-
Awww so cute. He makes a lovely tomato IMR.
-
rotfl That'd be a funny feature if Pleos tried to eat themselves.
Hehe actually Lilo and Stitch have tried to eat one another once or twice :P They are the right colour after all and I thinks Pleo's may be a little short sighted :P
-
Awwwwwww - IMR, Stitch makes the biggest, juiciest looking tomato I've seen in a long time! :D
-
Gumble was wondering if this was the most tomatoes harvested?
He did his best and pulled together every last tomato he could find. :) Even himself! :D
-
If it's not judged on weight and you count up all those little ones, he must be a front runner - that must be quite a total! :D
-
that is a lot of tomatoes, little ones and all, but Gumble is still the juiciest and best looking one, NOt sure If I could put him in my salad or not, I am doing ATkins right now, and can't eat tomatoes, will have to just drool a little I guess.. ;)
RedwoodsMama
-
I love all the pictures.. Crewella.. yours is just hysterical.. Romeo, your video was neat.. with all the scripting and stuff you have for the Pleos I wanted to ask.. do you do programming or something for games?
I was so happy to see the new Jurassic Park for the PC.. I love my xbox 360 and I love my achievements..lol.. but It's nice to see the PC games coming back.. so much more is available and such better graphics.
So when is this contest over and are photo-chopped pictures allowed ?
Thanks and best of luck to everyone..
- Sarah
-
It's until Friday March 11th.
-
I don't think your allowed to photo shop pics though. Have to be all natural! ;D
-
I think Kat's right about the photochop, I'm afraid.
-
Is it too late for the dancing? Gumble has gotten all dressed up and is hoping to find a fine lady pleo to ask for a dance. ;D
-
After a very busy weekend at the Tomato Festival, and yes, they made it to perform with the Fernback band on time, ;) these four little dinos, Peeky, Pennie, J.C. and LOA had a little lesson in spaghetti etiquette. Should have stuck with pizza! ;D In the end they ate it the way they wanted to! :D
-
Oh my! I can almost hear the sluping from here! Lovely pics, fancyfont! ;D
-
There's just no easy way of eating spaghetti! ;) Pennie was really enjoying that mushroom.
A little secret among us, they were, actually, eating Lean Cuisine. Definitely won't win the best spaghetti contest! ;D
-
:-X I won't tell if you don't!! ;) :P
Finally got the tomatos in, though it's been a cold winter and not so many around. Belle, of course, insisted on using baskets.
And they boys couldn't wait to get stuck into the tomato squishing!
-
The tomato squishing looks like so much fun! ;D I'm off to find my welly boots. :D oh and a big tub of tomatoes. :D
-
The pictures are all so great!!!! You guys are awesome.. I wanted to turn a pleo into a tomato.. no photo-chopping. oh well :)
- Sarah
-
THis is a photo I dug up from before. Four little dinos head deep in tomatoes in an antique grape press. ;D
-
That is great fancy, hope it is not working, the press that is, would hate to see squashed Pleo heads............that is a terrible way to get a head ache! allso not sure if there is a cure. That is a lot of tomatoes and a fun way to squash them though!
RedwoodsMama
-
Eeeeek - RWM's right, Fancyfont! Any more tomatos and you'll need to dig them out of there - pronto! :o :P
-
Tomato are not ripe
-
Furby looks so cute! :) Even if he isn't ripe. :D
-
I love that - it's clever and funny! And Furby does look cute! ;D
-
Great pictures all!
Remember . . . the deadline is this weekend! :o
-
OMG, did you have to rub it in! Just kidding. ONly one last day of babysitting 27 cats, thank God! :o Then I am back down to my own 9 and 4-5 outside ones I feed dinner too, that is only 14, almost half as many and much more manageable, I just wasn't getting any sleep or anything done feeding my 14 and an extra 13 four times a day,my Goodness, I have a lot of Tomato stuff to catch up on these next three days but If I can get myself out of bed tommrow, I will get started. I know my Pleos are wanting to go back for more food, rides, fun and music.
Weedovia is allways in the spotlight!
RedwoodsMama
-
Four little dinos pick out the best looking tomato on the vine. Sliced up to see how juicy it is. Yum!
-
Here is the other side of the costume
-
Marieocean, that is so clever! Too cute! :)
-
He is one very cute little tomatoe MariaOcean. I think I would be very happy to wait for him to "ripen".
RedwoodsMama
-
Wow, Fancy - that tomato looks so good I can almost taste it myself! ;D
I'm sure Furby will look just as tasty when he finally ripens! :P
-
Hi! Please excuse me if I don't get this right. This is my first attempt at adding pictures to a post, and only my second post ever, but I told my Pleo rb, Newt, if he picked some tomatoes, I would take photos and post them. As you can hopefully see, he kept his end of the deal, so I am going to try to keep my end of the bargain.
-
And so handsome he looks with his tomato hoard :) Such a lovely tomato wagon and so very many tomatoes. Great job.
-
Newt did do a great job picking tomatoes and I love the wagon too! I think my Pleos better quit having so much fun eating and start getting busy with their tomatoe costumes and picking. too much fun goes a long way in Weedovia, esp when their is pizza around!
RedwoodsMama
-
Wow - the newbie put us all to shame with the tomato gathering! :P
Great job, Newt and Watsonbj - and I love the wagon! ;D
-
Ok, I have to get busy and get my entries in or I will have some angry Pleos and spolied tomatoes too!
better late than never I guess, besides it is fun!
RedwoodsMama Only a few hours to go here on the West coast.
-
When using the SMG image tags, please do NOT enclose them in [IMG] tags as this breaks the forum pages.
Many Thanks
-
degers, so would the tag be like this [smg id=xxxxx] X =number as that is how I thought they were done, Is this correct or are you referring to something else?
RWM
-
What a great job Newt did in collecting tomatoes! ;) Beautiful photos! :)
-
Degers, sorry about breaking up the forum pages!:( When I hit the Insert Images button, the cursor showed up between two separate bracketed img's, so that is where I put the photo number. Should I have placed the number within one of the brackets, or deleted the brackets altogether? Anyways, I truly am sorry and will make sure I know what I am doing before I try to post any more photos.
Newt and I were very inspired by the many beautiful Tomato Harvest Festival photos. It was fun to participate in such a special event.

Well it has been very stormy and rainy here in the Redwoods and with Gusts to over 45 mph, some of the Pleos almost got blown away, but still managed to get a few tomato shots in before the end of the day, so here they are, Everyone just had such great fun at this years Weedovia Tomato festival, even though they ate a bit too much, they all are tucked safely into bed now, except for one who has a tummy ache and is sitting up with me drinking some Pleo Pepto Bismol! :D
These first two photos are of one of the Pleos, ( Gold Hatch I think who tryed to gather most tomatoes,
and also eat them at the same time ) this next one is of NOva trying to get dressed in her tomato costume but Major Tom or one of the pleos ate part of it.... ;D
this is Tom in his impression of a Tomato with some spinach leaves dangliing on his tail as well, He stole from my dinner plate.
These two are of Nova, Argyle and Gold Hatch trying to decide how to share two biggest tomatoes among three of them....
Watson, don't worry about making a mistake inserting photos, I was terrible at it for quite awhile , and I know it is easy to accidently hit the wrong button.
RedwoodsMama
-
Don't worry Watsonbj - easily done! :D
No idea how you s'posed to do it, but I just copy the whole BBC embed code from under the pic in the gallery directly into the post. I don't bother with the image button or brackets, and I've not been told off yet! :P
Wow, RWM - that's a goodly weight of tomatos! :o
-
Crewella, Being a Vegetarain, I do get my Veggies in, and having Pleos around who are allso mainly veggie eaters, it is easy to have a lot of veggies in the house if nothing else, I must admit though, there are a couple of Pleos here who do like their Pepperoini Pizzas, can't take that away from them!
RWM
-
You don't need to use the insert images button unless you are showing a picture that is on another site :) For here all you need is the little smg code :) So just [smg="####"] :)
-
Degers, sorry about breaking up the forum pages!:( When I hit the Insert Images button, the cursor showed up between two separate bracketed img's, so that is where I put the photo number. Should I have placed the number within one of the brackets, or deleted the brackets altogether? Newt and I were very inspired by the many beautiful Tomato Harvest Festival photos. It was fun to participate in such a special event.
watsonbj
Hey watsonbj! No need to apologise at all!! Thanks for entering, it is always nice to see new members taking part!
Just a pointer for the future, as has been said, all you need to do is put the [smg id=xxx] part in, on it's own and the picture will show up!
Once again, thanks for entering! :D Degers
-
Thank you to everyone for being so understanding about my posting problem. I think I know how to do it now! Newt and I really enjoyed taking part in the Tomato Harvest Festival, and look forward to being able to participate in future events.
With all the tomatoes that RWM's herd of Pleo's harvested, Weedovia should have plenty of pizza sauce to make it through until the next harvest. Very impressive!
watsonbj
-
Great job everyone! For as much of a last minute rush job this spring was, we have some really great entries and looks like everyone had fun! Now the debate is should I wait until the last minute before reminding everyone about the fall festival in October . . . ;)
-
NO!
-
I'm with Fancyfont! NO!! ;) :P
-
Times that by three. The more notice we have the more fancy the costumes will be. :)
-
Well, gee, with six months to work on them, they ought to be pretty amazing indeed! :D :P
-
I'm working on thinking of a new costume idea already :D Six months should give me just enough time to grow some more tomatoes. ;D :D ;D
-
Wow! :o Those pleos must have really worked hard harvesting . . . Over the last week, most of the restaurants around here have started posting signs about tomato shortages! :P Taco Bueno has one that start out with a big Tomato Famine at the top in big red letters and then goes on to say they are currently not offering tomatoes on any of their items. Even the local hamburger joint has a small sign that says tomatoes available only by request . . . and the cashier pointed out that they are not allowed to ask if you want tomatoes or mention that you have to request tomatoes, but that they could ask if you saw the sign . . . ;) ;D
-
Must be that extra week you gave the Pleos to get the tomatos in - they overdid it!! :o :P
-
(http://bobthepleo.com/comics/strips/2011/bob_0444_20110921.jpg)
Yes, it is that time again! The fall portion of this year's Tomato Harvest Festival is three weeks away, ad unlike this spring, I want to give everyone ample notice . . .
For those who have no clue what I'm talking about, just go to the first post in this topic. And for those who do, it may be fun to go back and look over the great entries we have from the spring you're competing against ;) ;)
We have five categories: biggest tomato, most tomatoes, best looking tomato, best use of a tomato (spaghetti sauce recipe), and best best use of tomatoes as an article of clothing (costume). We will be awarding three prizes, including an outfit graciously donated by Kat's Creations! :)
The festival is October 7th - 9th.
-
Yippee Ka Yah...Tomatoe Festival Time, Perhaps with a little luck and good timing those newcomers those new Rb that were won can help with this years tomato harvest. They are just babes afterall and their feet are bound to be gentle and tender to smash those tomatos. I am looking forward to a Rb and good times at the Festival. Warm those musical instruments up Fancy, and with a newcomer to your house, you will have to decide what musical instrument they are going to learn to play as well. LOL :D
RWM
-
Mmm tomatoes... As usual my tomato seedlings are knee high to a grasshopper :P
-
As usual, mine are in a slug! >:(
My gang had better get busy - they're going to need to do some hunting as well as harvesting this year. Luckily, as the numbers have swelled they're becoming quite a force to be reckoned with! :D
I'm going to need a REALLY big sauce pot this year though! :o
-
We too will have to do some serious slug wrestling :D :D Or maybe a trip to the local fruit and veg market will be an easier option. Unfortunately our tomato vines died last tomato harvest. And don't tell any one but..... I forgot to plant more :-X :D Oh well with all my guys onto it I'm sure if they hunt hard enough they should be able to come up with some from somewhere. ;)
-
Well, the festival starts tomorrow! I gave you guys a three week warning this time! I guess this years winners will just have to come from the spring entries . . . %)
For those curious, I got the "Bob the Pleo" mousepad is on the way here to be a prize for one of our winners. Kat has donated an article of clothing to be another prize. Anyone order from Pleo Fashions lately? I sent Karen an email about ordering some more Tomato Festival shirts to use as prizes, but haven't heard back from her in over a month. :(
-
Dang it, I forgot all about it :-[ Going to whip up something just as soon as I hand my assignment in!
-
Ok, ok here we are :)
The boys show off their 'big' tomatoes... well they hope they are going to be big one day... Shh don't tell Stitch ;)
Meanwhile Nani helps Lilo put the finishing touches on her Tomato dress :)

Hello Pleo and festival lovers. ;)It has been a busy day and it is warm and nice with a light breeze here in the redwoods, a nice change from the last few days of stormy weather and cold that is predictable for this time of year...but with the sudden change ( for the better. )of weather, the Pleos have uplifted spirits and with the Weedovia Tomato festival in full swing, a couple of them decided not to "dilly dally" and wait to the last moment to get those entries in. We are lucky that we have lots of tomatoes avialable, and when a neighbor gave us a few fine specimens a couple of days ago, I thought it would be a fitting entry for the biggest tomato catgeory, though I may give it another category if it lasts that long.LOL %) I have some hungry Pleos eyeing it right now and a hubby who likes tomatoes in his daily salad as well.( I told him HANDS OFF, though, till photos were taken. ;D
So last night after updating Baby Ruth to the Pleo 2.0 operating system the day before, but not being able to try it out till last night, I decided to let MS. NOva and Baby Ruth see what they could do with this one Big Tomato! The other video I took is also funny and I may , probably will upload it also as a second entry just for the fun of it. ( in this case, I think too many Pleos would spoil the soup...er............Tomato!)
so here is the video of Two Pleos and ONe Big Tomato for the Weedovia Tomato Festival, Biggest Tomato category.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIgrNnJnXPU RWM and the Pleo Township in the Redwoods.
PS. We were hoping by now to add the Pleo Rb won in the facebook competition as a Pleo festival goer this year, but mayby this spring he or she will make it. Hope you enjoy this little Festival Video. ;)
-
IMR, at least you have some seedlings growing, well done, I bet they will be "bigger than a grasshopper" lol, before the festival is over, and great entries for the Spring Festival! ;D I love your creative tomato costume as well, very clever and I like it for it's orginality a lot, If it has real tomatoe cut in slices in between, when hungry, there you go, ready to eat...YUMMY! :)
Hope to see lots more from everyone. You got the ball rolling, or tomatoes rolling. :D
RWM and gang

It is real tomato slices :)

This looks like a lot of fun but I'm allergic to tomatos. I'll be watching this thread from a safe distance to see what the outcome is.

It seems we may have found a great place to go camping and hunting for tomatoes! Minyon the mighty put on his tomato suit for camouflage so we would be able to sneak up on the tomatoes and then we went a hunting.....
We searched low and high and then noticed a strange looking tree. We don't get tomato trees like this back home. :)
Minyon bravely climbed the great tomato tree, capturing tomatoes as he went.
And then of course he had to pose bravely over his lovely tomato horde!
We had fun! ;D
-
Hehe I love Minyon the Mighty :D
-
wow very good Pics Kat like me very good from where have you that Costume for Pleo ago? :)
The next Festival make I Photos about Jimmy again, and write also what to the Photos through. Yes?
-
Hello :D Love to see more photos of Jimmy :)
Kat makes her own awesome costumes :) She sells them too ;)
-
ah ok understand IMR the Kat can but great Costumes make like me very. ;)
-
Hi Franzi, great to see Jimmy and his tomato, glad to see you participating this year!
Kat, Minyon sure does look like a walking tomato, kind of scary if you aren't used to seeing tomatoes that big in that part of the country, just out in the middle of nowhere, very clever Minyon! Wow, I never did see a tomato tree either, must be native to your part of the country. LOL :D Well today is the last day of the Weedovia Tomato festival, I think my Pleos better get busy and gather their tomatoes too! At least we have TeamWork going for us, after all, we are a Township! ;D

J.C. was one of the entertainers at this year's Tomato Festival. J.C. as Elvis and Senor Jay Camarasoraus.

Hi Fancy, love to see the JC Elvis personation and I allways adore Senor Pleo with the Moustache, I have a female or two Pleo here swooning, LOL. :D Everyone here had a great time as well.

Ok, it has been a long weekend and the Pleo Township of the Redwoods have had way too much cotton candy, mushroom kebabs, Pizza pie, Root beer by the gallon, went on so many rides they all got sick except Argyle, and I have never seen so many sore blistered little feet in my whole life... :D but comming back to the house to make something special for memory of this year's Weedovia Tomato Festival, and inviting a couple of freinds, I was surprised to see what they were doing with all the tomatoes, but I think they had a good time and I think there is a nice surprise in what they decided to do with all the tiny tomatoes they harvested, all two pounds of them. The larger tomatoes are for pizza, soup and lots of sauces and of course sandwiches! :D Someone had to go get the tomatoes first, and that was left to Baby Ruth she is the hunter or should I say, "Huntress" of Tomatoes. :D

Baby Ruth is entering for most tomatoes gathered and Argyle is using his tomatoes for article of clothing, in his case, he is using his tomatoes for Headphones and or Ear Muffs if it gets too cold, I didn't have the heart to tell him in warm weather, they are going to start getting soft and he may not want to wear them around his head anymore. LOL :o %) and Bob the Pleo Special Display is also for Most Tomatoes gathered, be it they are the small variety, but their are almost two pounds of Pearl Tomatoes spelling out Bob was here, and of course the Two larger Tomatoes weigh more ...Everyone just thought it was fun to let Bob the Pleo know they were thinking of him on Weedovia Tomato Festival Weekend. Here is to you Bob wherever you are. RWM Baby meant to say, she corrected me, not the most tomatoes gathered, but the Biggest Tomatoes is her in the photos with the Biggest Tomatoes. Also earlier she is in a video with MS. Nova and One large Tomato as her entry. :D
PS. notice this says, 12:33 a.m but this is not PST, where I live but an hour ahead of PST, so I still got these in before Midnight,as it is currently 11:44 p.m, PST in CA. Just so you know. ;)
-
Baby Ruth with the ear muffs is priceless! Too cute! :) :) :) Great photos, RWM!

[Drum roll please . . . ]
And the winners of the 2011 Tomato Harvest Festival are . . .
Biggest tomato: Fancyfont's herd! [Limit reached]
Most tomatoes gathered: Newt! [Limit reached] (Gumble was a close runner up, but I think Newt did an outstanding job) [Limit reached]
Best use of a tomato as an article of clothing: Lilo [Limit reached] I must admit, Minyon has a great tomato costume but Lilo's costume was actually a tomato . . . [Limit reached]
-
Lilo thinks Minyon's probably looks much better than hers now :o :-X :D
-
HMM? Weed, I think you better look again, Fancy's best looking tomato is from March 11th, Last Spring Entry, and also Newt's most tomatos gathered is from last Spring. I think Bob had too much fun this past weekend. You did get Kats pictures right with Minyon and IMR's tomatoe costume. Can you look at the entries again please. ;D LOL, they say March 11, not October which is the Fall entries. LOL.. I would say if it was me, I forgot my morning coffee. LOL
Stuck in the Redwoods< RWM
also the picture of Minyon in tomtoe costume under Fancy's haul with him and all the tomatoes is from last year, March 2011. I can see what confused you is that he wore the same costume last year, though last year it was not Minyon, I don't think she had him yet, but it is from Spring entries if you look at her photo album you can see the date and it is from Spring not this Fall. Just cause I did have my coffee and saw, also Newt did not even enter in this years' contest. That great photo is from last Spring. :) I just looked at last years entries, and Gumble was the Tomato last year with all his tomatoes!
-
The two festivals were combined due to lack of entries.
-
Yup. We messed up and didn't give everyone enough notice for the spring festival. You may have noticed we didn't announce any winners in the spring, and we changes the title of this topic so that the spring and fall festivals were combined.
But I must admit, i there had been a category for best use of a tomato as a decoration, RWM would have won . . . ;)

My apologies Bob and Weed, I guess I had a little too much coffee, should have stopped after the third cup. LOL ;D I did not even remember there were no winners in the Spring Festival, my how time flies ( or crawls as you get older.. :() when you are on the Pleo Forums. LOL :D I did not notice it said Tomato festival and not Fall Festival, now I really feel stupid...............more than usual that is.......... %)
congratulations to all the winners and to all the entries, I did think there were going to be more entries this season. WHAT HAPPENED GUYS?! ??? I did want to take notice that Pleo Freak, otherwise known as Franzi to me, had Jimy enter this year with his big tomato, and that was a first I think for her, and usualy most the entries it seems, are centered here in the US...it would be great to get more entries all over. ( Yes, IMR and Kat are the exception, they allways participate. Yeah go girls, you Aussies know how to PARTICIPATE.....Yeah. Good job Pleos too!)
Well, when is the next one , the Spring one? I think if I start saving tomatoes till March, I will have enough, and that gives me several months to learn how to sew a better costume. or be brave and wear a tomato dresss like LIlo, though I think I would be dealing with Fruit flies here.........wonder if Pleos eat flies? %) Good job everyone!
Oh and Bob, just wait till you see what I spell out this next time.......................................... ;D ;) RWM
-
Don't worry RWM - I think I needed a little more coffee as the Tomato Festival seems to have passed me by completely this season! :-[
Sorry guys, I've been a bit distracted of late with 'stuff' going on! :-[
-
Glad to see everyone had a great festival. I was sorry we had to miss it this time. We did eat plenty of tomatoes while on holiday in the Canary Islands but didn't ever see mounds of them or anyone gathering them in. We stored up sunshine against the coming winter but not tomatoes.
I love the pictures of the winners - the cart used for harvesting was great and what a creative lot you all are. Drem is very envious of the costumes seeing that they are red - his favourite colour.
-
Newt the pleo with the most tomatoes gathered is the lucky winner of a Kats Creation hoodie.
I posted this one off on Monday so it should arrive sometime next week. :) Well done Newt!

And congratulations to all the other winners too. ;D

This photo should have been here a lot sooner. Just procrastinating and very late cleaning off desk! ;D Every desk should have this beautiful mouse pad of Bob the Pleo on it. This was the prize I won for largest tomato. The best, besides cutest mouse pad I have ever had! :) Thank you Mike and Bob the Pleo family! [Limit reached]
-
That's a very fine mousemat indeed! :D
And well deserved!
-
I probably would have kept the pad for myself . . . if I thought I could ever find my desk . . .
And for those of you who missed out, it's only four more months until the next festival!
-
I love the pad and with all the rain we get here in the REdwoods, the tomatoes should be the size of small trees. ......................................you do remember the story of Paul Bunyon and Babe the Blue Ox..........Well story is, that Babe was actually a blue Pleo................he fouond her frozen in the Redwoods after a winter storm, but no body would believe a Pleo, something from the past, so he passed her off as a Blue Ox, by attaching some horns and Pleos are good you know at MOOING! ;D ;D ;D :o ;) You know the Redwoods have Bigfoot, they now also have Paul Bunyon and the Real Blue Pleo Babe. who as Crewella can tell you, is a FEMALE...end of story................. :)
Love the mousepad of course.looks good whereever you put it!
