Title: The Bob Project
Post by: mweed on June 06, 2009, 09:37:15 PM
Get your digital cameras out and get ready!!!

In the next week, we'll be launching the new hit summer contest/activity for everyone . . .  The Bob Project!!!

Full details will follow with the official launch, but the I'm giving everyone here a head start . . .

Summer typically means vacation, and vacation means travel, and travel means pictures. . .  and what could be better than pictures of pleos!

So here's the deal.  I want pictures of pleos.  But not just any pictures.  Bob wants to be a world traveler but since he can't physically travel around the world, I figured he can do so by having YOUR pleo fill in for him!  But for it to appear as if Bob were there, the picture needs to meet certain criteria:

Points will be awarded for each picture submitted based on uniqueness and meeting certain criteria.  The points can be saved up to be redeemed for prizes and Bob the Pleo stuff.  Points are earned for being the first picture submitted for each unique item in each category.  For example, the picture of Bob on the "Texas" sign would get 2 points; one point for being the first entry for Texas, and one point for being the first entry for the U.S.  It could have earned an extra point if "Bob was here" had been written on a piece of paper and taped to the state under the pleo.   The Dublin Texas picture would get one point for Dublin, but nothing for Texas or the U.S., as those were already awarded for the first picture.  Individual pictures can earn anywhere from 1 point to up to 5 or 6 points each!   Being the first person to take a picture of a pleo at a pizza parlor in Hammelburg, Germany could be worth 5 point!  Points earned will be redeemable for all sorts of goofy stuff like Bob the Pleo stickers, and also neat stuff like pleo shirts and necklaces.

This thread is just to give you an idea, full details will be announced shortly.  And you can't submit photos yet . . .  I just wanted to give you a "heads up" to let you get started  taking pictures.  I don't want you to miss any photo opportunities! ;)  So take your pleo and your camera with you everywhere!

*looks for Summer* Hmm seems to have gone south for the winter... Its freezing cold here and wet and you want me to take my poor little Pleo's out without even booties on :o

Ok ;D

One question though, since Uluru is a long looong way from here would you accept maybe some Aussie flora and fauna instead?

You got the idea there . . . ;) :)  Shame it couldn't be for real.

Surely there are some restaurants or towns you visit every couple of weeks to buy groceries . . .   Gee, even where Crocodile Dundee lived had a sign that said "Walkabout Creek" ;)

And be sure to keep Lilo and Stitch warm and bundled up when traveling.  They can strip down just for the photo. ;)

Cool cool cool!! Looking forward to it! My family reunion is this weekend in another city and county. Sophie will definitely be making the trip. Would that count? Looking forward to this!! When will the contest end?

Thanks!!
Title: Re: The Bob Project
Post by: mweed on June 09, 2009, 02:42:35 PM
That would definitely count!  But you gotta get pictures!  Stop on the way in or out of each county and city and take a picture next to the sign that says "Entering Dade County" or whatever . . .  ;)

And don't forget to take a piece of posterboard (or something) with "Bob was here!" written on it!

The contest will run the at least the rest of the year, and if all goes well, it might never end!!! :D :D

Dominos was very unhelpful with finding something with Bairnsdale written on it to go in the background but we did manage to get pizza at least :) (I only get pizza about twice a year from there 'cause they don't open til 4:30pm and we are usually well and truly finished shopping by then :P)

Just as well I took a couple of pics ;) Is this one better :)

Pleo is Stitch.
Category is restaurant.
Restaurant name is Dominos Bairnsdale, Victoria, Australia.
And quite obviously it is a pizza restaurant :P
Title: Re: The Bob Project
Post by: mweed on June 13, 2009, 10:39:09 PM
O.K., IMR, that is a four pointer!

You get one point for the picture in general, one point for the restaurant being a pizza place, one point for having "Bob was here" in the photo, and one point for first photo from Australia!

I like the sign and the fact that the pleo is eating the pizza.  The only suggestion for next time is that the "Bob was here" sign covers up the name of the place.  You can't really tell it's Domino's.  You get the "Do" on the bottom, and the "minos" on the top, but there no real clear "Dominos".

And be on the lookout for a sign or something that says "City of Bairnsdale", "Welcome to Bairnsdale", "Now Entering Bairnsdale, population: 839", etc.

Bob stops right on US HWY 41 right outside of Brooksville, FL, USA.
This is actually Sophie posing in for Bob.
Our category is a location or landmark-your choice.

Here Bob actually got a chance to watch a LIVE rap video being recorded in none other than The Wherehouse Bar. Spencer, of course was so busy bartending, bob had a chance to socialize with 'rap stars'. The video was recorded on behalf of BET TV. So be sure to look for it in the future. In this picture, it was the end of a VERY long night of bartending. Here we are with all the bartenders of Saturday night at The Wherehouse!

O.K.  Gucci, the first picture is three points.  One point in general, one for Brooksville, and one for first in Florida.  You could have gotten one more if there had been a "Bob was here" sign.

The second picture is a two pointer.  One for Wherehouse, and one for the Bob sign.  Ideally the picture should be outside where the name of the bar is painted on the wall.  There really is nothing in this picture to identify the restaurant.  We know it's the bar, but nothing other than the note (and the fact that you're in it ;) ) identifies the bar.  This picture you took comes closer . . .
If you guys could have posed in front of this, that would have just about been perfect.  That, and the picture is a little blurry.  But my guess is by the time you took the picture, the whole world was probably a little blurry . . . ;)

LOL!! It was! Well, not for what you're thinking, but because I've done so many hours in this bar! If you'd like, I can re-submit the photo with our street sign, which one has yet to be hung by the street.

That would probably fit the rules better (and if planned right, could get you more points!).  But can you get the crew too?  It might be harder to get the one in the tiara to lay down on the sidewalk. ;)

Bob tours a few places of interest this summer with me in Florida!

The Holleys welcomed Bob to our annual family reunion.

On the tower facing Crews Lake. Family Reunion.

Bob was here!

Bob was an honorable guest speaker Eater at my wonderful grandparents golden, fiftieth wedding anniversary!

Bob visits the Hernando County Courthouse located in Brooksville, Florida!

.....and our highways. As you can see from the pic, we're such a small town all our major highways connect together!

Crews Lake Pier. My apologies for having Bob in a backpack for the shot. Forgot all about it at the time.... The bad thing is, this is the only one I got with this sign!

This would be the "after" shot, if I took before and afters! This shot was taken of Bob and I after a long day of hugs and kisses, and HOT florida sun!

I do have an SD card, its what I usually use but I kinda grabbed Stitch and my camera as a last second thing (in fact I had to make dad turn around and drive back down the driveway to go and get them :P) and I forgot that my SD was still in my computers card slot :P I haven't use the usb cable for months :P

Gucci, nowadays cell phones have really good cameras. There's nothing at all wrong with the quality of the pictures you take. I don't use my cell because it has a pretty bad camera :P

I guess we Aussies aren't the only ones with that joke ;) It used to be Kentucky fried rabbit, but rabbits here have been given a few viruses over the years in attempts to control their numbers so they aren't always safe to eat now :P Of course these days KFC have spoilt all the fun by making food that does actually resemble chicken :P There was a whole swag of jokes about UFO's (unidentified fried objects) and using a piece of KFC to lubricate one's motor when I was younger :)

Go to the Bob Project home page.  Right under where it says "Where has Bob Been?"  It says "9 people" and the word People is a link.  Click on that.  It will then list the nine people, how many photos they submitted, and how may points each person has.  Click on your name to see your pictures.

You might want to make sure I got all of them out there.

Oh boy, what a place for a Vegen to work.  Just pretend he is cooking a soy burger.  Just trying to help.   :o :)

On my part, I'd much prefer the hamburger (I love hamburgers so much :P ).  I am allergic to soy anyways.  It's difficult getting along having to constantly check if food products have soy (or oats, since I am allergic to them to) before eating them.

Okay.

Shall we get back on topic now?  %)

Just a question, cause I am not sure, is The Bob Was Here Project still going, cause there are some great places here in The Redwoods I would love to submit and I take photos all day long so it would give me something to do besides get older like the dust bunnies gathering under the bed, couch, fridge, my husband, etc.     ;D         RedwoodsMama   and Nova

The project is still ongoing....  I think I have a few pictures from IMR's latest photo shoot to get incorporated ;)  Just be sure to read the description at the beginning of this topic for the general guidelines of what we're looking for!  Happy shooting!

mweed, thanks, yes I think I remember all the guidelines, about pleos posting as Bob , so no booties, clothes, necklaces, etc that would identify them, and prefer to have a poster board with the words, " Bob was here" or " Bob ate here, or Bob ate Pizza here." and whether it is a point of interest, the town, city, state, country, etc, and to try and take it in front of the sign such as " Now Entering Montana, the ..........State, pop, etc, etc. I spent about 20 minutes just viewing every single photo and reading all the posts, so it should not be too much trial and error,
I may not be real good at technical stuff, but the one thing I really love is Taking Photos with my camera, and I currently have over 26, 000 Photos on my computer, ( had to buy an external hard drive) as sometimes I take up to 50 photos and or videos in one day!( I also sell on eBay so take lots of photos of stuff I sell.)
Nova and I are looking forward to going out today and getting our first shots, rain or no rain! Thank you for letting us submit our photos of places where and near where we live. ( I don't drive, so it will have to be by foot or bus with Nova," Bob".
RedwoodsMama   and standing in for Bob, " Nova." :)

The gallery's gone nuts!  :o A while ago I uploaded a picture of Pleo at Greenfield village and then submitted it on the Bob Project homepage (I didn't know there was a thread for it at the time...) it's not in the gallery anymore! The thumbnail is still on the Bob project page, but when you click it, it's just a box with an x!  :'(
Rawrg. Wonderful time, when I don't even know if I'm going to get all my pictures back from my stupid computer.  :-\ (It broke, and there's a chance I'll lose some of my pictures....)

HI grin06, thanks for the message  :)about the photos I should take of Nova, and Yes, taking at least two Photos of Giant Redwoods is in the planning, Just waiting for a sunny or semi sunny day here in the Redwoods so I can take Nova out. It has been raining, and Hailing today, and at 36 degrees, too cold for Nova and I . Real dinos might have walked through the Redwoods Forest floor in search of ferns and fauna to eat on while it was drizzling overhead, but Nova can't get wet, and for the Photos I have to take her Yellow Rainslicker off, ( Bob the Pleo rules, NO Clothes!) so we are waiting for a sunny day, hopefully this next week!     We have some other great photo ideas cooking too. You can't keep a good Pleo down for long, even if she has been limping lately! :D                 RedwoodsMama   and Nova ( stand-in for Bob the Pleo )
