Title: New Pleo User Introduction
Post by: 3dogsandaDuckie on December 20, 2008, 11:55:27 PM
::) Ugobe shut down their site just as I was registering my new Pleo, one second they were there, the next they weren't Darn it.
I am so happy to have found this site. Anyone have any tips for a new mommy? I'm worried I might make a newbie mistake with Duckie. His arms keep popping, is that normal? Sometimes his arm snaps and he starts hollering for several minutes. Nothing seems to cause the snap, it pops all about on it's own. Any advice? He was born Dec. 11. Most interesting thing so far? He threw up, then sniffed it. Just like my dogs--it was great! I love this guy!

Welcome here!  Glad you found us.  We all hope PleoWorld eventually come back...

In the mean time, You might want to check the skin around those front knees.  If it's stretched wrong, the leg will make a popping sound when the skin stretches then "pops" back into place.  The fear would be that it's not the skin and the sound you are hearing is a gear, wire, or cable snapping!  :o

Welcome to the forum!  How did you find us?  Is it a loud cracking sound or a quiet popping sound?

:D Wow! Thank you, such a nice group :D
Thanks for the skin check idea, I've checked, and it seems to not be part of the issue. The sound happened almost as soon as we turned him on. I think it was with his first leg movement. Snapped, just as though it was snapping in and out of a soft joint. His tail skin is coming unglued, so the person who bought (hem...my Mom) wants to take it in to Ugobe's office. Any one else try such a thing?
Sounds like a gear click/pop.
Oh, and how does one manage to keep the silly battery in the charger? Mine pops out after a few minutes of charging.

Thanks again, all the tidbits I've been able to pic up from looking through these forums have been so helpful!

Don't be afraid to push the battery firmer in to the charger. You should hear a loud click when it is properly seated.
Do you live by Ugobes office?  ???

Thanks fancyfont, I'll give it a good shove next time. Yes, close to their Eagle ID office. I finally got an email through to Ugobe, perhaps they'll finally be up tomorrow?

Title: New Pleo User Introduction
Post by: dinosaurs_rule on December 22, 2008, 04:49:53 PM
Just wanted to say how happy I am to have discovered this forum. (Actually my sister found it).  I just knew there had to be a place other than Pleoworld to find accurate information.

I have been eyeing a Pleo ever since the launch.  Santa was kind enough to purchase one a couple of weeks ago for my 6 year old son.  I'm really looking forward to playing with it while he is in school.  (Side note: Have any of you noticed the huge price swings Amazon has been having for the last couple of weeks?  I've seen Pleo as low as $199!!  If you see it, grab it.  The prices don't usually last more than 24 hours).

I wasn't planning on turning my Pleo on for the first time until Christmas morning so we can all meet him together. (I've been really tempted, but the pleoworld site outage prevented me from cheating!)  Thanks to this forum, I will have the OS1.1 loaded on a blank SD card so I hope to get started on the right foot.

I'm going to let my son name him.  (I might get some suggestions ready.  Never know what a 6-year old will come up with!)

Thanks again for creating this Forum.  I look forward to getting to know everyone!!

Hey dinosaurs_rule,  Welcome to the forum!

Thank you for joining us here.  We have been a little lost since the pleoworld outage untill Mike had the idea to set us up a new forum.  It's been taking off steadily since last week when we set up shop!

Pleo is fantastic, but please don't be tempted to turn him on, the hatching only happens once.  A quick tip is to charge the battery then recharge it the first time it turns green as the first charge always turns green after about 20 minutes and this is never nearly enough.  The second time you charge it, it should take about 3 hours to go green.  So double charge the first time around!

We look forward to hearing what you think when you turn him on!

How did your sister find us?

Warm regards,
degers

Thanks so much for the tip on the battery.  I have two, so I'll be sure to charge them both twice.

My sister googled "pleoworld site down" or something like that, and your site came up.  She called me right away.

My son wasn't really interested in Io at first. (He did choose the name Io).  He was too busy looking at his other Christmas toys.  I sort of expected that.

Io was a big hit with my extended family.  Especially my nephew, also 6.

We are having a good time figuring out how he works.  I got the Holiday personality to work, but not the T-Rex.  He would freeze after about a minute.

I am going to try and get him to walk today.  He had so much attention yesterday, he didn't have to move!

At the beginning everyone had trouble getting the batteries in the chargers so they would charge correctly.  Be sure and pop in the back first and then the battery.  When you push it down there is a click.  Then you shouldn't have to weigh it down.

Ugobe is still in business but who knows what is going on with their site.  A few things are slowly coming up on their site so that's good.  But in the meantime we can all get help and visit here.

Welcome to the site Rommel and Paul.

Welcome to the forum Paul and Rommel. Amazon has had prices going up and down like the stock market. They have had some very good deals. Constantly changing.
Some batteries fit the chargers slightly different and occasionally will light up flashing green or flashing red. I resit the battery after pushing the power chord in a little tighter. It does take some pushing on the front of the battery. Think of it as a rocker. Sit the battery in and push it towards the back and then give a good push to the front of the battery. It makes a loud click.
Last year Christmas when I got Peeky, I started charging the battery around 9AM. Went back to check on it after about 2 hours it was flashing red. Repeated this again. Same thing. My hopes of having him working by the time my company was coming was getting doubtful. I finally read the instructions and gave it that little extra push and walla! it worked. Just as everyone came around 5PM Peeky was up and running. :)

I had a similar battery issue. Mine makes the loud click, but it doesn't really connect until I give it a really (really) good shove, then it makes a wee tiny little click--that's when it truly is in.
Title: Re: New Pleo User Introduction
Post by: degers on December 28, 2008, 03:24:05 PM
In the process of fully seating the battery you should hear two clicks.

3dogsandaduckie, how are you getting on with your pleo?  Any photos for us yet?

Duckie is so happy to show off his santa outfit. Adorable photo! I can't believe I forgot to video the hatching of Jaycee. I guess after the third that is to be expected. Or is it? Scratching head!
So glad you did it. It is such an exciting few minutes.

Duckie is doing much better. He seems to have grown out of his "popping" issue. There is a hole in his tail skin, and a lump on the right side of his lower jaw. But those issues don't bother me as much as the joint popping did.

My little dog wears a Santa suit every Christmas, so my Brother bought one for Duckie so he too could wear one on Christmas morning. Here's a photograph.

We just heard his first laugh this morning! It was so cute!

SOrry to hear about the tail hole!  As for the lump on the lower jaw that is completely normal and is a connector for one of the sensors under the skin, all p[leos have that lump.

Hello,

I got my Pleo on christmas day. He's called Chi Sau and I'm loving him! He laughed for the first time the day before yesterday.
He's not really walking yet, but I see from other people's posts that it's probably because I've been paying him too much attention!

I got all maternal and protective when a small child pulled his tail and toppled him over, I can tell you  >:(

fancyfont,
Chi Sau is part of kung fu training (it translates as "sticking hands"). I recently started Kung Fu, and I picked this name for my pleo because I found it amusing that I would now have to learn Chi Sau *and* teach Chi Sau!

Chi Sau walked properly on his own last night, and got tangled in a pair of boots that were lying around and made some confused noises. He then threw up and sniffed his own sick :-)
He was wagging his tail loads as well, and grazing on his own. Looks like we only need the training leaf for tug-of-wars now!

Fingers work very well for tug-of-war.  And can be less damaging to the paint on Chi Sau's teeth . . .  :D

Hi all!

I just bought my Pleo on Ebay yesterday.  It's used (but not much), but I'm hopeful that I can reset him. I read how to on pleoworld before it went down.  I've been wanting one since I first found out about them, so I am beside myself with excitement!

I'm fighting the urge to camp out my the mailbox! :-)

Glad to find this forum, with pleoword down I was really worried about getting help and advice for my new little friend!

Hi AbbyNormal!

Welcome to the forums!  I hope you get your Pleo soon, go camp out the mailbox, I'm sure you arn't the only person who has done!  A pleo developer has some instructions for resetting pleo involving an SD card script, do you have the instructions you found written down/bookmarked?

Once again, welcome! :)

Hi all :)

I am the proud owner of Pleo (no name as yet) my hubby bought me him for Christmas which was a total surprise:) He thought that i wouldnt bother with him but he is adorable!!! He loves his cuddles from me and likes to play tug o war with my hubbys finger!! There is one issue that i have and that he doesnt walk very much i have tried the holding his front  legs for a few seconds and he does walk a bit but not for very long. Also how do you know at  what stage of development they are at Also i arnt sure if he is already an upgraded pleo as he coughs and sneezes. I've tried the holiday personality but he freeses as he does with the pleosaurus rex so could he still need upgrading.

Thanks :)

Hi A.J. Welcome to the forum. It sounds like you may have the first os that came with the original pleos. Especially if he is playing lots of tug a war. Since the 1.1 upgrade was introduced Pleo doesn't seem to want to tug a war as much. Rub under the chin for a few minutes and if your dino is showing off his singing you'll know he has the 1.1 update. He or she will serenade you with songs. :)
Title: Re: Hi New Pleo Owner
Post by: degers on December 30, 2008, 03:46:55 PM
HI AJ, generally after the first 25-30 minutes your pleo will have progressed into the normal mode ov operation e.g. not hathling.

When you turn pleo on he will default into a social mode where he will stand still and wait to be petted, if you do not pet him within a minute or two, he will look to the left and the right and say "huh? huh?"  and then will howl or hoot and this will signal that he has entered explore mode.  In explore mode he will take a few steps and then look left or right, then will continue walking untill he comes to a high obstacle or a ledge.  He will then back up and continue walking.  Thats explore mode.  Remember if you touch him on any touch sensors more than a tiny bit while he is in explore mode he will default back into social mode, and will stop walking!  SO if you want it to walk, leave it alone.

You can force Pleo into the explore mode by holding the front leg sensors simultaneously, but remember if you start to touch other sensors he will just head straight back into social mode.

Hope this helps!

Fancyfont is right.  Pleos ship with the original 1.0 operating system.  You will need to upgrade to use the personalities.  But don't rush!  It may be fun to let him/her grow a little before upgrading.   ;)

Hello everyone!

My family purchased a Pleo the day after Christmas... (we couldn't resist the HALF off Amazon price!) Our Pleo, (who our son has named Denver, as in the last dinosaur) is out of the box, and the battery is charging. (We are making sure to double charge if it seems to charge too fast.) And we will be ready to hatch as a family tomorrow morning.

Now... do we hatch and THEN update to the new OS? Or do we update the OS before hatching...? I'm a little confused on this point.  Any helps/tips/well wishes are more than welcome. :)

I"ll be browsing the forum and acquainting myself with what is out there so far. :)

Zarabear.  I would hatch then update.  It doesn't matter which way around you do it but the hatch then update method is easier.  After updating however, Pleo will seem "slow/groggy" for a few minutes.

Hi Zarabear, My first Pleo, Peeky, grew with each up date from the beginning last year. He was adorable the first OS through the 1.1. If it isn't too late already, I would recommend to hatch your Pleo with the first OS  and experience the change.  1.1 will always be there. :) Penelopie and J.C. already had 1.1 when they arrived. I would have never known what Pleo was like in the beginning.

Oh don't be sorry, I'm very excited! I've been almost blind most of my life (big thick glasses since I was little), and after the surgery I'll be able to see!

Yeah, my nick is from Young Frankenstein, a great film! I had an old boss who was a huge fan, and he used to call me that all the time. I've been nicknamed Abby for so long that hardly anyone calls me by my real name anymore.

Hello Everyone!  ;D

I found this website around the beginning of January and it was a good thing I did, otherwise I would of never been able to update my pleo!

I just got my Pleo last Christmas  ;D but was pretty disappointed when I found out that the Pleo website was down and you couldn't register. :(

Then I ran into this website! I think I found it by searching up something like 'pleo website down' or 'can't register in pleoworld'.  As soon as I found this website, I registered and got the update for my pleo.  :)
