Title: Anyone have a non-workin' pleo?
Post by: allosaurus on June 09, 2009, 06:11:36 PM
Just wondering, since I discovered that if you take the battery out of Pleo and put it on its back, you can look down inside and you'll see a microchip with words on it. I'm just dying to know what they say. I've heard about a button that says, "RESET SW" but I don't think the one I saw is that one...

Any volunteeers to take apart a non-working Pleo?

Ifixit did a teardown of a Pleo: http://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/Pleo/597/1
Page 3 has all of the electronics boards, though there doesn't appear to be any reset button.
Although I believe with a bit of digging around, you could reset the Pleo through the USB/serial connection: 'reset' is a command option, though I'm unsure whether they mean "restart" or "clear everything and reset to factory defaults."
Hope that helps?

I think it means the latter option....

But thanks for the article. It's rather helpful!

I'm sorry, that wasn't hepful actually. My computer was on the verge of shutting down auto in 15 seconds.  >:(

So, what I was talking about, I dscovered a little bit more. Again, everybody, this is in the battery hole.
The words said something about black, red, and white. ??? If anyone has a camera, could you just turn Pleo on its back and take a picture into the battery hole and post it here?

I'm refreshing this topic since I know of several people now who have taken apart Pleo.

The dino-mite reset command just restarts pleo from power up, it doesn't reset any variables as far as I have seen.

I'd like to know about the board that is in the battery slot.... Oddly, it has a few colors listed on it. I'd like to know what they all mean.

I don't know either.

I don't know either.

Do you see it, too?

Isn't it weird? Red, black, and white?

I used my magnifying lens :).  This is EXACTLY what it says-
RED(+)
BLACK(-)
WHITE(NTC)
What that means, I don't know, but what I do know is that Red, Black, and White are colors.

So apparently red is positive for something, black is negative for the same thing, and white is..... Uh, neutral-tech-color? I don't think so. XD Though it is neutral, and it is a color...

ntc is a special artificial programmed brain (tells motors what to do).  I know this from Mindstorms Lego set :).

Sooo...... Are there motors attached to it? But still, what of the colors? 0____0

This is extremely odd. ~_~'

(Oh, and I feel like I really should've known what NTC meant XD)

Whats your looking at is the board that deals with Pleo's battery. NTC refers to the thermistor that the battery uses to determine if its to hot or not. the + and - are for those charges on the battery.
