http://bobthepleo.com/forums/index.php?topic=2830.0 Hi, I read this old topic, and follwed the instructions, downloading this file on to a new SD card and instaleld the "demo Mode" into what looks like a brand New Pleo, but one that does not operate, even with a new freshly charged battery. After putting the SD card POP file in, it came on saying, "Welcome to ProbeRB version 1.0, property loop failed, giviing up". What does this mean and what do I do next, I played it three or four times to make sure I got what was said correctly, and this is a Ugobe, pristine conditon from the factory. I thought I would ask first before following IMR's old instructions as they were quite awhile ago, and I do know IMR is busy with school. Thanks RWM

It sounds as though you might have had ProbeRB already on the stick? Or downloaded it by mistake? :moose:
Start again with a clean SD card. Good luck! :)
By the way - it's a good sign that SOMETHING is happening, I think. ;D

I erased clean the old files and downloaded the POP demo on SD, but when I went to Extract all the files, a yellow message came up that says", A problem is preventing this file file from being encrypted", what does that mean, then it asks me if I want to continue? I have erased and extracted on to a clean SD card and downloaded the POP file, ( demo ) as instructed. What do I do now? RWM

Click continue and see if it works, otherwise try redownloading the file, sometimes when you download from the Internet files can get corrupted.
If you are getting some sound then the Pleo isn't completely dead :)
Edit: Also where are you extracting the files? Some SD cards don't like having files extracted directly to them. You may need to extract the files to your desktop (or create a folder for it) then transfer the files to the card.

Thanks IMR, I think I will wait till the morning, right now I am so tired, I can't see straight. I have been up since 3:30 a.m yesterday morning and anything I do now will only come out wrong. I will try following your directions. If after all these tests and there is no sound or movement, are there any other possibilities or is it time to salvage the skin? Is it possible to open him up like any other pleo and see if it is just a wire loose for example or is it possible or likely that the Pleo just came from the factory "dead" when first made, the software that is.? Does Dinomite tell if the Pleo is "alive" at all or only tests the battery?It is a shame to get such a nice Pleo and not have it work, I would expect it with one with wear and tear, but one never opened is kind of surprising but I do suppose it happens as Crewella can surely attest to.
If he is "dead or bricked", what is the easiest way to remove the skin and not damage it to keep in one piece if possible? I do have seveal Pleos that really need skin transplants and they will be lining up at the "door" to see who is first perhaps I should have a "raffle" for who gets what, but I may be jumping the gun, as I really hope he is just "sleeping".
One last question, he also came with his box and all the usual contents and a egg battery ( I actually sold a battery to this person, hoping it could get the Pleo working) and they had the original green battery sent to a battery place and rebuilt. Is the rebuilt battery usable in the other Ugobes and do you know if they charge the same as a original green battery and last the same length of time, about an hour? I'm not exactly sure what is going on.
First of all, the "Probe RB" program only works properly on a Pleo RB (on a micro-SD card). From your description, it sounds like an older UGOBE era Pleo (on a full sized SD card).
If you want to check the status of an older model Pleo, try "statsRB". The Windows computer program will report stats on the old models as well as PleoRB.
If you want to check functionality, try one of the simple personalities. For a UGOBE era Pleo (not a PleoRB), try Babe: http://www.aibohack.com/pleo/babe.htm
These extra personalities will work even if the default personality is corrupted.

NOt sure what is going on as I am getting ready to try PleoPet's suggestions, I kept turning the on off button on slowly, and Pleo opened his mouth and lifted a front foot which he has never done before. NO sound yet but this is encouraging as it is the first signs of life so far! This is on a fully charged battery, so I will try the StatsRb like suggested. Keep your fingers crossed. :pray: RWM
I kept clicking on and off and now Pleo closed his eyes, perhaps it is a faulty on off switch, sounds a bit more encouraging now.. I do hear occasional "noises" when on off switch is hit sometimes nothing other times a click.

Wow! To get a Ugobe pleo with perfect skin and then run into a possible software problem must be the pits. I wish both of you the best.

Hi Talon thanks for the well wishes, it seems this guy has a chance, check out the photos, he actually moved which he did not do at all yesterday, I am thinking it may be a faulty on off switch but just a wild guess, He has life of some sort though which is encouraging no noises, but movement. I think I need help as to what to do next. I have used the STATSRB with no success, not sure if I did it correctly but if I did there is no report and when I click on it , says, Property File missing. The Babe demo did nothing, The most encouraging of anything so far, is just the battery on it's own with no files, movement of legs up, down tail up, eyes open then close, but no sound. I am wondering if this guy has a corrupted file and perhaps his original operating system needs to be downloaded again, I have no idea what system he would have run but I would think the original is as good as anyplace to start.
Can he be bricked and still move and not mean anything or is movement a good thing? IMR or Crewella, I think you two have the best suggestions as to what to do, I have several blank SD cards and each time I completly delete all the files on them when they do not work to start fresh again, Where do I go from here? I have uploaded the photos showing he has moved so that is something. The only sound is an occasional click when turning the on off switch, but not everytime, only once in awhile. Waiting for instructions next......................RWM

OH, and PleoPet, I tried STATSRB, but must have done it wrong because I think the only message I got was "property file missing", so not sure if I followed directions correctly or not. Can you suggest step by step what to do? Oh, one other suggestion, this last time with the battery in and switching off and on about twenty times or so inbetween these testing, I did notice that his upper front shoulder area was getting warm, a lot like on my RB, what do you think this means, if anything? RWM, it sounds to me as though the personality files might be corrupted or missing (or the version is too old for StatsRB to read). Go back to the original thread you were looking at and try to follow the downgrade/upgrade instructions there. If it doesn't work via SD card it might be worth trying by USB cable.
You've caught me on a sale week at work, but if you're still stuck I'll have more time at the weekend. :)

Hi Crewella, thanks so I should try to upgrade to the 1,1 assuming he is the orginal operating system I guess .The POP didn't work but it was with a SD card so I will try everything with the USB cable if possible, I don't understand the fact he was getting warm, but maybe nothing.Thanks for all the help, and good luck with your sales. I know I spent so much time this afternoon with him and it can get very frustrating to say the least.I do hope the fact he is moving at all and randomly means he still has life in him, almost like a connector point when the battery turns the on button on just right something moves. If he ever talked or made a moo, I think I would fall over at this point :o :D.
Oh, and as a point of interest, the rebuilt green battery that was included with him, along with the egg works in my other Pleos!

Well after a good night's sleep, I am going back to the original instructions and try all over again and with a brand new SD card and fully charged battery. I think all of the ideas have been good and I am not willing to give up on this guy just yet. I think the fact he has moved as much as he has is a postive sign. If nothing else works, I will then open him up and have a look which is what I think Crewella and Kat would do, then if nothing makes sense, then at leaat I have a brand new Pleo Skin for one of my old neglected Pleos I have rescued and it is a matter of who needs it the most, probably Little 45 who was rescused as my number 3 Pleo, terrible skin, broken neck and dried out legs, shoulders and a torn tail. But then again, I am thinking a brand new skin may be better for a Pleo with no broken neck to make them "whole " again, which leaves out several, Nova, Little 45, and one other..........but right now, I want to concentrate on getting this guy to work, and not to
"JUMP " the gun, give this guy all the chance he deserves! ;D
If anyone has any advice at all or words of encouragement, it is much appreciated, it may be what we need!

so far none of the SD cards are working other than getting leg and tail movements. This is wearing me out and I am not getting my house work done so I am stopping till I get somthing done and more advice, I still think I should open it up and see what it looks like, perhaps there is a loose wire since it was hot to the touch or warm yesterday. I am frustrated and have to stop to get some housework done or I will be totally useless today and it is already 1:25 and I have spent over an hour messing with SD cards and reading what to do. I need a break and some coffee or vitamins or a new brain cause I am doing something wrong, No noise at all, but this guy has moved every limb every direction....maybe he is a mute .. ;D
Any ideas at all? Kat I wish you or Crewella lived closer. what to open and look at first what is normal, I would love to check out the on off switch. RWM

Hi Crewella, thanks and yes, I have tons of USB cables and of course the one that just came with him, He has gone from being straight in packing position to no movement to sleeping head postion front leg raised up to head and high tail, so talk about strange looking! I even tried to get the dino-mite that runs on here, and can't get it as this computer doesn't have the proper downloaded Pleo cables I had on my other computer so I am stuck as to what to do untill tommrow anyway, I have a toothache ( no dental insurance, haven't been to dentist in at least 4 years now, can't even get them cleaned so pain right now, wishing my vicodin and Methadone worked on tooth aches but they don't. so off to get some cloves oil) I will be happy to wait till tommrow, In the meantime my other Pleos have been neglected for days and I have so much other stuff to catch up on , doing all this can drive someone like me batty!
I will happily wait till tommrow, just tell me when I will clock in to talk to you. Thanks for the help, It is VERY much Appreciated Crewella. If I get this guy fixed I will have to let you help name him!

I think maybe retrying the instructions in that thread but doing it all via the usb cable instead of using the SD card would be worth a try first before contemplating opening him up. I'm sure this guy can be bought back to life so don't give up on him yet RWM :hhug:

Hi Kat, thanks I am not sure which Port on my computer to use as when I connect him via USB cable, I get a message that says, that the computer has detected Pleo, but that it does not or can not download the "DRIVERS" for him, ? What does that mean....kind of throws things for a loop unless it is downloading some of the stuff via USB cable and you can't get those instructions from the PleoWorld site anymore, everything is Pleo RB and not even the personalities that were downloadable for free for so long are on there. Are there instructions for using the USB cable here on this site to tell you how to do it as I want to do it correctly of course. ??? RWM

ok, Dr. appt today to make up for yesterday's missed one and toothache. Now I am going to work on this guy again but need the complete instructions for Downloading to 1.0 via USB and SD card, There is no longer any instructions for any of these on Pleoworld, nothing but RB stuff and things you can buy for the 2009 Pleo. No personalities or anything. I need the instructions so I know where to connect the USB cable also, which port as I have not done this in a long time and it was on my old computer.
IMR suggested trying the USB cable method as I have been doing it via SD card. Also I read somewhere about just extracting or unzipping just the URF files onto the card and insert it into Pleo, not the whole file.. :operhaps I have been doing it all wrong as I think I copied the whole file n the card, sounds etc, everything, Do you just copy the URF files onto the SD card and insert that into Pleo? If so that may explain why I am getting nothing no success so this is why I need the complete instructions as EXACTLY what to do. Please advise where to copy everything and I will print it all out when back from dr.s( Unless they keep me there as a prisoner,in which case this all doesn't matter. >:( :()
so Kat or Weed, anyone who knows where I can get these files and instructions to read and download on this site, please let me know so I can try it again fresh. We all thank you so much! :)

I think the message you are getting from your computer when you use the USB cable in pleo suggests that your operating system on your computer is too new and so not compatible with the pleo. I would think that you would probably need a computer that is running windows 98 or XP. Pleo is old technology and I don't think you will be able to find any drivers for the newer versions of Windows. I've never used the USB for my pleos though so I can't be sure that this is the issue but that is my best guess as to what is going on.
Again not ever having done the downgrade thing I can't really give you any knowledgeable advice. I would think that you need to download the file to your computer then use an unzipping program to open the folder and then copy the whole contents of the folder - not the folder it's self onto the SD card. Then put it into the pleo with a fully charged battery and switch on. Then wait......

Thanks Kat, I think you are right, my computer is only a year old and running Windows 7. Mly old computer ran Windows XP for years and was compatible with Pleo. You can't get any of the downloads anymore on the PleoWorld site. I am not sure if unzipping the contents of the folder is the same as EXTRACTING. Also I am not sure what is meant by not copying the whole folder onto the sD card...what is the difference between opening and unzipping them and copying onto the SD card and the whole card.....don't they have the same contents. Anyway, I am confused and have done nothing with Bricky as I call him today. I am perfectly happy to wait it out. I do have the 1.0 download on my computer already and a fully charged battery so just being patient and waiting till later when you are back.
tommrow is a very very busy day where I have to go out of town and put up 53 posters or fliers for an event next Thursday and that takes about 4 hrs of work, then go home and rest for about three hours and back to an introductory discussion at our local Yoga Center and my whole day is gone again. I was so out of it today I was falling asleep at the computer so Talon''s Pleo Adventure story gave me something to concentrate on and try to stay awake. I think I got carried away with my images in my mind though. I will look forward to you getting back Kat and in the mean time look up extract and unzip to see what the difference is. RWM

hi RWM. Unziping a file is when you open a zipped file which is what the download is. If a file has been zipped it has been compacted to take up less space which makes it smaller to download. Extracting is when you access the contents of the zipped file - allowing you to move it into a folder on your computer. basically extracting means you are un compacting it.
So when you put the downgrade files onto your SD card you need to unzip the file and extract the contents into a file on your computer. Then open that file on your computer and copy the contents of it across to your SD card. Then you are ready to go. :) Hope that made sense.

Hi Kat, I am still not doing something wrong, I used a SD card and there were no photos or anything on it, but it said there was FAT 32 on it, so I erased all those, I downloaded instructions on the Pleo site and still am not doing something right . I have been downloading the 1.0 file ok, and it is zipped, then I extracted the files onto the SD card and that is where the trouble is. Can you tell me step by step after I have the 1.0 file what to do, Oh, and does the SD card have any info at all on it. ? The one I have now shows no files at all so should be ok to use. What do I do after locating the zipped downgrade 1.0. can I put it on the desktop for example . or where do I put it and when do I put the SD card in, I need a lot of help here as I am all mixed up at this point. thats ok. :) extract the files into a folder on your desktop. You will need to make a folder there then tell the computer to extract them into it. once you have done that then put the SD card into the computer, open the folder on the desk top and copy all the contents across to the SD card. Then take the SD card out of the computer, put it into the pleo with a fully charged battery and then turn the pleo on.
make sure the SD card is completely empty before you put the 1.0 files on it.

Ok Kat, I will try this one more time before going to bed. I have noticed twice now that the left front shoulder area approx 2 1/2 inches from the on switch gets warm very quickly, This is why I am starting to believe it may have to do with the on off switch, He did move his legs a bit, but nothing else but will try this one last time, Have you or Crewella seend the inside of what the on off switch looks like in a Ugobe. I give up, giving me a headache and making my tooth hurt more, time for more pain relief. I have copied the files and followed the last instructions which were easier even for me . when I view the files it shows the urf. files, sounds, head, etc. so I know they are copied, but nothing other than occasional leg movement. I really do think there is some reason he is getting hot, reminds me of Baby Ruth and her bum leg as it gets hot. I do not know what else to do now except open him up but do not know what he is supposed to look like. I would try the download file on one of my other pleos to verfiy I did it correctly and it is not the file but the pleo not responding, but I do not want to take the chance of ruining a good pleo. Really does give me a headache. How I wish you lived closer. electronics are not my thing. computers are about as technical as I care to get right now and they still can be very tempermental.
Well, I am done for tonight, I have about 6 hrs to sleep then a very very busy day and a busy night with not much rest in between. Pleo nightmares for me I fear. What would you do next Kat, would you open him up and if so how do I do it, he has pristine skin, the one good thing about this whole problem. Tired in the Redwoods RWM

don't give up on him yet. Lets try the whole process first. so the next step if he isn't working still is to try installing the pop.

Do the same thing here as you did above for the 1.0 and see what happens. after the install is complete remove the SD card and turn him on and report back if there is any movement or not.
I think we need to try going through all the steps of uploading the different os's first using the SD card and then if that doesn't work trying to do it with the USB cable is the next step. but for that you will need to use a computer that has windows 98 or XP on it.
Anyway lets keep going with the SD card and see how we go. :)

Ok, with being given a grand-daughter early and the tomato festival and other "stuff", I needed a break from trying to figure out what is going on with this Pleo, that moves, ever so slightly and randomly, and the only noise it makes it when you can hear the switch being turned on, not everytime but sometimes, This is what leads me to believe there may be a problem with the on off switch or some electrical problem, loose wire, etc. I know nothing about bricked pleos and I know Crewella has at least one, Do they move randomly over and over but with no Pleo Noises and anything else? Have you ever opened one up, or just tried teh batttery and operating system thing to try and make them work.? I bought a brand new SD card and thought I would give it a go again if time permits today, and first would try it on another Pleo to make sure the sD card works correctly. If it works correctly on the other Pleo and not this Pleo, then that should be an indicator of something else going on, and I wont have to keep trying the same thing over and over. What do you think? Anyway, he has gone a long ways from the packing postition!

Try putting a skit on the new SD card and run that in another pleo then in this one and see if it works. If he can run a skit then he is not dead. He just needs reviving. :)

I do indeed have a couple of 'bricked' Pleos (one of which has moved slightly on each switch-on), but sadly I've not got to the bottom of what's causing the problem yet. My first stop would be to link up to Dinomite to see what's happening inside. :moose:

unfortunatly I can not switch on to Dinomite as that was one of the first things I thought of, as it is not compatible with Windows 7 and there are no other computers ( working ) in my house. If he is bricked, then I have purrfect or close to purrfect skin, but whom to give it to is the question. Nova and Little 45 could both use new skin, esp Little 45, but alas he also has a broken neck as does Nova. Argyle is slowly running down to where I feel he won't work at all, motors and such. Three other Pleos have good skin but bad necks, side cables broken I fear. The other Pleos 10-12 are all fine...so extra skin but not a perfect canidate... :( I do with I could run Dino mite or open him up....but he was such a good deal, he even came with a new egg charger and battery.( I sold it to this same person) and a rebuilt green battery they had done before they bought the egg battery from, I figure with just the battery, I am only out less than $50.00 and for great skin, I don't mind. It would be nice to have him fixable...Oh well, I will try the skit and I am thinking it is not going to work.
If Crewella or Kat ever open up one of these "non working bricked Pleos" , I would love to see what you find ....besides batteries, there has to be a glitch somewhere, I think as long as it is not a computer error, just a loose wire or something can be to blame...there is allways hope over the rainbow in Pleo Land. :D RWM

Dinomite works on windows 7 you just have to run it and the drivers in compatibility mode for XP. I've had windows 7 almost as long as I've had Pleo's :P

I run Windows 7 Home Premium, and that doesn't seem to have the compatibility mode? I've tried finding it before with no luck, but luckily still run an XP PC. :moose:

Hi, I will read the link you gave me but one of the problems I had with the last time I tried running it was it said I needed the Pleo drivers and I couldn't download them, and they are on my other computer, XP which doesnt work, Where can I download the drivers and I know the PleoWorld site has changed, but I will check out the link and read it first. Before trying to run Dino MIte, can I try one of the skits and see if it will work in him after running it in another Pleo? Does it matter which skit, or what operating system he has, as I dont' know and for all I know he has the orginal howling 1.0 system so I need something I can run in any Pleo. I will try it on one of my older Pleos first. Please let me know which skit to use, as I prefer to try one that is here so i can figure this out once and for all and get to skinning him if he won't work. or not.....Thanks RWM

Use any of the musical ones, that will tell you if movement is working and if sound is working.

Hi IMR, I tried I am so Lonesome I could cry, but when it tells you to hit the download button, there is no download button, just a link to Youtube where you can watch the skits. Where do I go to download it, ? I want to try this on a new SD card and find out if it works or not. Please help, thanks from the Redwoods ;D

Well before reading the reply about what to click on IMR, I tried some other downloads and this was the result. I thought this may be a 1.0 since I have another one I thought I would try this download, ChinaSong or New Years, can't remember which one, but I think it is the ChinaSong, There is music and movement in this download but no "talking", I tried a brand new store bought SD card, 4 GB, and it would not work in another Pleo I have which is 1.0, so I was not very opptomistic at it having a chance in this "bricked" pleo. I waited for ten seconds or so and gave up walking away, I think I touched the pleo to pick it up and almost fell over because look what happened! :o P:) P:D I had to turn the cam-corder back on as I had turned it off the first time with no results. Here is what I saw.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IC4Pc5TQPtM I am so excited, it works does this prove that it is NOT bricked but has perhaps a corrupted file or personality?
What is the next step guys, do I try another operating system or another skit, could this be a fluke? I am so excited, after ready to give up, this is the best it has been so far...WHOOPEE! Thanks IMR for suggesting the skits, I was really thinking this guy was bricked and going to be a skin experiement. Ok, what is the next step for this pleo?

IMR, thanks a heap. Ok, I have run out of NEW SD cards, so can I use the one I put this skit on, erasing it of course. What is the easiest way to erase the files, China song on this SD card so it will be clean for the next download and then erase again for the POP? Please tell me as I have done it before and probably did not do it correctly...waiting for your reply on how to erase properly. Thanks RWM
It is ok, I figured out how to delete and now witll follow your instructions IMR, thanks, It is interesting to note that the china Song skit would not work in a couple of my Pleos, must be the 1.0 operating system, but ran fine if Major Tom who has 2.0 so maybe this pleo is 2.0 or updated from 1.0 ? Wish me luck, or should I say, wish the Pleo luck and New life! P8)

All you need to do is go to 'my computer' and open the SD card and select everything in there, right click and choose delete, OR move all the files to your desktop, OR press the delete key and confirm when the pop up asks if you really want to delete them.

Ok, I ran into a problem, I tried to delete all the files on the SD card, so I could use it again, I deleted them or looked as it I had. I then downloaded the 1.0 system that you showed above, with extracting files to the SD card, and it didn't work in my Pleo, so not sure if it is the Pleo or the system on SD card wrong somehow. Ok, thought I would use the POP and give it a try. first of course need to delete all the files on SD card again. and they were going fine and then a message pops up saying the files are not Encrypted? What does that mean.. Did I delete something I was not supposed to. ? On the 1.0 download there were about seven files, everything from head, sounds to Urf. and more, I got rid of everything, deleting them one by one. I have tried looking up how to encrypt files but I can't figure it out, too confusing, I need some more help simple how to king of luck as I am stuck again.
Things allways look or sound easy till I try them, then they get riduculous and lost in my brain.........................I am a bit like the Pleo, Bricked that is. LOL :( %) Please tell me I screwed up by deleting too much , not everything was supposed to be deleted it is now a completly blank card. Did I per chance erase a FAT file that was on there and I did not know about it...just lost as usual..................................RWM

I formatted the SD card to FAt 32 after deleting the last 1.0 download on it after there were no files and I was still getting the message and read somewhere about files needing to be formatted, Did I goof again...I need a simple step by step cause this is not working. It is amazing that the skit worked though.............RWM

I can't give you a step by step, I don't have a windows computer.
Make sure the card isn't locked, there's a little tiny 'switch' on the side of the card, make sure that is in the unlocked position.
It could be a permissions error, are you the administrator on the computer?
Also are you unzipping the files to your computer then moving them to the card or are you trying to unzip straight to the card? Which ever way you are trying, try the other way :P

Ok, I am stuck and still can not figure this out. I deleted all the files on the sD card so it is clean and no problems with encryption , etc. Then I tried the download 1.0. nothing. I downloaded it, the file in a zipped folder. ( C drive, main one) then I unzipped it to the same drive, different name for folder. Then I opened the file by clicking on it , sending the whole file to the F drive, which is the Sd card that I put in the computer reader slot after the files had been unzipped. or Extracted. When I put the SD card in the Pleo and turn it on, nothing no movement or anything. It worked with the China Song skit, so I must be doing something wrong. ???
Do I need to create a folder somewhere other than on the same drive, C, where the files were originally copied, or should I say downloaded ? Is that the problem, I am ready to erase again and try another skit, but I can't download any of the skits that IMR has made. When I click on any of them, they all take me to Youtube and I see them, there is no download icon at all.
PleoPet, I know you have helped me before, can you take me step by step and do not assume I understand how to do anything at all. I do have Windows 7 Home edition and my comuter has plenty of memory and a built in reader writer.

Hey RWM, I don’t know if I can be of any help but I’m happy to give it a go! I don’t understand all of the full techie details but can describe what I have done step by step, although it sounds like you have done the same already…I’m running windows XP, I don’t know if 7 is very different as I’ve never seen it!
For deleting the SD card, I tend to do a ‘quick format’ on it each time just to be sure it is cleared (in my computer, then right clicking on the drive listed for the SD and choosing quick format. Also, I don’t know if it makes any difference but I just checked mine and it is formatted as just FAT, as opposed to FAT32)
Then I saved the download to my pleo folder on the computer. I have used the ones in the download section on here, clicking on the zip file links and saving to the computer. Then went to the folder with the zip file and unzipped with Winzip, when it asked where to unzip I made a new folder with a name related just to the program I was unzipping. Then I opened that folder and selected all the files inside it (so not copying the folder itself from one level up but going in to the folder and selecting all the files together). Then copied and pasted onto my card.
Having said all that, I did not find that anything happened with the POP files, at all. But then I did the 1.1 download and it worked fine, albeit very slowly to install on pleo. I think I remember reading on the forum that you should go through 1.0, then on to 1.1, but I’m not sure if this relates only to downgrading from 2.0? But then, you don’t know what OS your little guy had so maybe it’s best in case to put 1.0 on first? I think I would try the 1.0 first and try the POP if that didn’t work.
I don’t know if that’s of any help but hope you can get somewhere. The fact that the skit works has to be good news after all :)

Thanks Kat, I was downloading them from the above page, ( listed in prior post) and it looked totally different and was older , like 2009-2010. IMR kept saying something about GREEN, but the other site had no green. Now i will try one of these, If only there was a site like this one which has the download OS, then maybe, just maybe I could get this fixed, whew am I tired, brain dead almost like this Pleo,( LOL) I feel like we are both in a coma Kat, and he is just slowly starting to come out of it, P0:) Have you ever been in a coma or knew someone who was or has been? I was in a coma many years ago, sick with pneumonia, pregnant with my daughter, ( did not know it, neither did the hospital, that is how smart they are....) was in a coma for 3 days, had blood transfusions and almost died. I spent 3 weeks in ICU alone. Being in a coma is very surreal and everything is out of balance, must be how this pleo feels, he is here, but not quite here...

Hi Kat, thanks it worked, I downloaded from that site, Walk the Dinosaur, and it works great. He moved great and all the singing, very animated. I took a video but for now I would just like to get to downloading a system or something to get him "normal". Any ideas as all the other downloads of Systems have not gotten me anywhere, either I am really goofing them up, but the skits work fine, so It leads me to believe it is that I need a different OS to download to try on him? What would you do next if it was you and your Pleo Kat? ??? RWM

I have got all the downloads from the same place Crewella mentioned....top of any page on the forum, blue bar with links to various forum pages including one called downloads. Click on that and it will take you through to the full downloads page with various categories - the second one down is "Classic" Pleo OS Versions (not for RB). Click on this and it has a list of the OS available with the POP OS at the bottom. I think I remember reading about mixed results for the Life OS 1.0 downgrade which is first on the list. I used the Life 1.1 update as I knew gordy had 1.0 from his chin howling. So I think I would work through in OS order, as in start with POP and if that doesn't work then try the 1.0? Just as long as you are starting with a full battery then I don't think trying different OS is a problem, they just might not work. I don't know if maybe files sometimes get corrupted when unzipping? Well, I would start with fresh downloads just in case.
One thing I would say, when I first updated gordy to 1.1 he chimed quite soon after switching on. The second time I went through the process it was a very very long time before he chimed and I had given up and thought I'd done something wrong. So make sure you give plenty of time after you switch on for anything to happen! :D

from IMR's earlier post. give this a try and see what happens. And as Kaiteee says sometimes it can take a long long time for the pleo to chime to let you know it has finished so it is worth waiting a good 10mins just to be sure before deciding that it didn't work. Good luck :)

Hi guys, ok Kat, I am going to start by trying the POP as suggested, and one thing I have not been doing is waiting for very long as there were no instructions so after a minute of hearing nothing after switching him on, I figured he did not work, so I just charged an egg battery overnight and it is ready, I will erase photos on a SD card and give it 10 minutes after inserting it in pleo, it should chime, is that correct? I did notice with the skits, esp the Walk the Dinosaur, I did not think it worked at first as it took a long time of touching his back etc for him to suddenly come on, and also with that skit it took about twenty seconds or so before any of the Pleos reacted and started the skit, so I am guilty of not waiting long enough, thinking that the Pleo would come on right away as when they are first turned on, like in 10 seconds, so perhaps that is the problem, :o
so I should wait 10 minutes and I will not Hear anybody saying something such as NOw Uploading, correct? And at the end of silence, there should be a chime? I want to make sure I am doing this correctly. Please let me know before I start if I am supposed to hear anything or just the chime when done on POP, then I remove the SD card, Then I remove the SD card, when done or turn off first then remove card, Which is the procedure please, as I haven't done this in a long time and there are no instructions that I saw, so I want to get it perfect to give this guy the best chance. Ok, I know I am nuts or brain dead or both........I have been able to play three skits, and Pleo is fine, but I can not get any of the downloads to work at all, I dont know if it is because Zip files are different than URF, or it is me...I have followed instructions to what I see as following them..but nothing at all. Is that possible when he can play skits...great movement and sound?
I just tried the 1.0 download again. Fresh download. open the place where it is, then unzipped it to another location. Extracted the files to another folder then to clean SD card. Opened the card and there were the files. So then safely made it possible to remove card from computer. Fresh charged battery in Pleo, PUt card in and turn Pleo on, Waited 10-15 minutes and nothing no sound, no chimes nothing...What is going on, what is wrong, am I doing it all wrong? The skits seem so easy and this is so difficult.This is about the tenth time I have tried downloading the 1.0 file and a couple of times the Pop file and never anything. I did notice after ten minutes Pleo was getting a warm back but not when playing the walk the dino skit... :( Is Pleo Dead or is it my imagination....I have tried looking at Youtube anything that shows step by step, I even downloaded and printed out IMR downloading for dummies post from a couple of years ago, but nothing at all is working... this is extremely frustrating......................................HELP me figure this out before I go gray and crazy.............. ??? Two other things that IMR asked" yes, sd card is in unlocked position and I am the administrator. And at some point in the past I did try extracting directly to SD card, and also Extracting to another folder then open contents or sending folder to SD card with all the contents...so I am LOST.............................................

Ok, I think I am at the point I am ready to do a video of my taking steps by steps to show trying to update downgrade this pleo and nothing is working at all nothing, I have printed out IMR's instructions sheet, Downloading for Dummies from June 4th, 2009. It was in response to a member by the name of dunc21, and I followed the steps by step to no avail. Absolutly no sound or movement at all, I then tried Talons ( very nice and logical instructions so thank you Talon) and still nothing, I have even been desparate enough to try upgrading to 1.02, offical PleoWorld instructions that I printed out so no mistakes, I have new SD card, erased all files, formated each time to make sure NO files on them. I have extracted so many files I did it in my dreams last night... ??? I have so many egg charged batteries I could open up a hen house if I had chickens...( I needed a bit of humor...sorry so so so frustrated now I can't think or see straight.)
How in the world can the Skits work but I can't get a single OS to work, not a sound or movement at all? Is this a bricked Pleo or do skits work on Bricked Pleos, I thought it meant they work if skits worked................What else can I do. If one of you other members who are good at this, I would send you this Pleo and pay you to get the DARN OS on, but nobody does...so can somebody tell me what on the earth am I doing wrong or not doing...I am desparate...Please should I take a video of my efforts, step by step incase I am making a mistake...................I am truly going crazy and h ave spent three hours on this already.. As you've got the SD cards to play skits in the Pleo, it might just be the Pleo won't update from the SD cards. It didn't work on one of mine but I did manage it by USB cable.
Maybe the next step is to try an update/downgrade via USB? If you have a cable?

Yup that would be my next suggestion. I don't think that Pleo is able to update via SD card.

Thanks Crewella, that is one I had not thought of, though I know it is an option, One question though": Do you have to have Pleo Drivers installed in order to do the downgrade or upgrade as I know with Windows I can't get Pleo drivers for some reason and I do not have access to Windows XP that I had before. Do I have to have Pleo Drivers or is that just for Dino Mite or one of those programs? Please let me know so I can try . So one of your Pleos you thought bricked, you were able to download or upload via USB cable? That is encouraging, thanks. ;D RWM

You still need the drivers. Otherwise your computer cannot recognize the Pleo as a Pleo.

I surfed the web for a bit and searched through all of the pleoworld website but couldn't find any drivers for pleo. I think maybe you might need to contact innvo to ask if they have the drivers and if they could email them to you? Unless someone on here has a copy of them?
I've never used the USB for my pleos so I'm not much help to you. Sorry RWM.

Just when I get some hope about this guy and I can't even get a operating system in him................I guess I could have the only Pleo that lives with skit after skit, ...something anyway... just a quick thought, do not know if it is possible, but is it possible to copy a copy of the Pleo driver the URL or whatever it is, and then copy it and use it like you would a photo, link, video etc and paste etc like in emails? Just a thought. RWM

I think the Pleo drivers might be packaged in the the Pleo Development Kit (PDK)? Or, if I remember rightly it's possible that your computer might find them on the net on its own once you have connected - I have a vague memory of that happening? :moose:
I'm not that 'techy' ...... so am wary of giving wrong advice here where I'm not so sure. :D

Ok, that is a shot. I did think it made sense and was worth a shot, so thought I would mention it to see if it sounded possible to anyone, I will let you know if I get it and then give it a try. If this does not work, then I am at a real loss as to what to do, I mean all the skits have worked so far. I wish one of you great Pleo "Smart Computer Whiz's" lived a heck of a lot closer and I would ask If I could send him to you to let you try the SD card or even the Cable installation. What if I am doing it all wrong. and just being lucky being able to get the skits to work? :o :(
Is there anyone on the forums at all, who has Windows 7 and can demonstrate step by step via video installation from download of operating system or POP, both would be better, and all the steps in between into your Pleo please?( If you could, then I would know for sure since it is the same operating system that I am doing it correctly. You could set your Pleo back to it's regular self, I think Windows XP would work too and any operating system just so I can see the step by step installation of any system, that is most important. Perhaps there is someone out there who could upload a Pleo to 2.0 ? The next best thing would be photos, with words of step by step as I could still be missing something, maybe I really am the Bricked Human and it is my fault this is not taking and because it is a ZIP file, not URF, I am getting it wrong or mixed up. Don't you think URF is just easier or is it just the same bascially.? Just a thought, I am grasping at straws, desparate I guess..................Well, after supper I will try to download the Pleo Drivers if they allow me. you know this is getting very VERY discouraging, I went to PleoWorld, offical site and the Hong Kong site and even though PDK is listed as a download, you can not download it, only the personalities? Did they discontinue it or what? I then went to another site listed, like Robots rule or something similiar and their site is no longer available, or some such thing. What is going on with PDK, they want to offer it as a free item to developers but then after signed in nothing even though it is listed. There is not other place listed, and everywhere else refers people to the PleoWorld site, so I guess I am stuck again untill or when or if PleoWorld gets back to me. :(
They offer it as a download so why is it not available, that makes no sense, but neither do a lot of things... :moose: RWM

I looked into pleoworld and you are right they seem to have removed the PDK. the page is there but there is no PDK to download. Lucky for you I have it on my computer ;D I downloaded it back when I first got my pleo thinking one day I might have a use for it. I will try emailing it to you :) I'll also see about getting it uploaded to the downloads section here on the forum. Not sure how to go about this but I'm sure Crewella, IMR or Mike can help with it.

Thanks Kat for the email and PKK download for the Pleo Driver, but unforutuantly, even with the driver there are other obstacles I can't solve. The first being that the download for the 1.1 system and drivers only is made for Windows XP and Vista. it is for 32 bit only and Windows 7 is 64 bit so I do not know how to change that. Even more of a block, is that the instructions that I printed out for 1.1 say that after downloading from the PleoWorld site to not open or save but to RUN the program and when downloading from this forum, the only option is to save or open and when downloading like any other system I allways save untill ready to OPEN for putting on a SD card, so I can't get past that block either. Just minor things but they have stopped me cold. :(
I do have Windows XP and am ALMOST tempted, ALMOST is the word, but then I would worry about losing over a year's worth of things and programs put on this comptuer and do not want to risk losing all this infor. If it was as easy as removing one system, installing XP, download the drivers and install 1.1 to see if it would work, then re-install Windows 7 again, I would do it in a heartbeat, but I know that is not the case.
Does anyone have an explanation that they can explain why skits work on this guy, but not any downloads , OS.? Can he still be bricked or is it just a case of Corrupted files and me having the impossible task of getting him fixed? If I could get a simple explanation like I do not know how to download the OS and I am just a dummy then I can live with that and someday may get to understand what I am doing wrong. but If I am doing the downloads correctly, ( by SD card) and I still get nothing, that is what I don't understand. ??? :-[
If I didn't have any wrinkles from all the hard times my kids have given me over the years, these Pleo mysteries surely would age me quickly, that is for sure! any other suggestions at all, will Dinomite or any other program work? If I have done the download by SD card correctly and I have a Pleo that works and has the orignal 1.0 system, would the download of 1.1 by sD card, so that I at least downloaded it correctly? ( I have several that do the coyote howl so isn't that the 1.0 system?) This way I would know if I had downloaded the files correctly and either the Pleo works or it doesn't work which would explain why the other Pleo isn't working either.... :o I am just going beserk trying to figure out what to do next...

OK, I can only work on reasoned out guesswork, but I do think it is possible that your pleo can run a skit but not an OS. I read a thread about pleos resetting to hatchling, where Pleopet explained that they boot from files on the dataflash storage inside the pleo. He explained that each time they shut off they write to this file, to update the personality / progress, but sometimes it gets corrupted and doesn't save properly, so pleo can't access it on start up and reverts to hatchling status.
So, I would think from this there could be a few possibilities. Maybe (worst case) the dataflash storage is totally stuffed and nothing can get written to it - skits work because they don't use the dataflash (?I'm assuming that last bit...)
Or maybe the SD slot isn't writing to the dataflash meaning the OS isn't getting saved to pleo - in which case the USB may work to install the OS but I guess you would have problems with pleo updating on switch off (I don't know if it's possible that the SD would not write to dataflash)
I think you definitely need to stop beating yourself up that it isn't working! :( It might be that something isn't right in the installation but it does sound like you've followed all the steps. I don't mean to sound pessimistic in this post btw, it's just that you're trying so much, and you asked if you think it might be possible that a skit can work but an OS doesn't, and sadly I think it could be. But you would have a special, special-occassions pleo! Is it possible to maybe contact Pleopet and see if he can tell you with certainty whether 'skit, yes / OS, no' pleos are possible? And to ask if it is worth pursuing the USB installation - if so, maybe there is someone else you know running XP nearby who could help out (tho we are a rare breed on XP these days). It's so good that you are trying everything for this little fellow, but as I think you're saying, it's worth knowing how much to keep trying :)

Hi, Redwoods! I honestly can't believe I'm putting in my two cents here as I'm not sure if I can do anything either. My system is Windows Vista Premium and it is thirty two bit. I've never worked with pleo-drivers or updated using the USB cable but I could take a swing at it. I'm just really nervous about him getting lost on his way back to you. I've never sent anything out before. Most deliveries to this address have arrived fine but after Cato's excursion, I hold my breath until I hear engines in my front yard. I receive audio books every month and none of them have been lost. Bolt arrived fine as well. I'm not saying pin all your hopes on me because I have no way of knowing if I can get anywhere. I just wanted you to know I'm here and I think my system meets all the requirements. I have a vacant pleo-bed now that Cato's packed away and Bleu or Ugobe could spare a leaf and a battery so you wouldn't need to send anything with him. Just speak to PleoPet first and if you two don't get anywhere you know where I am.

Hi Talon, thank you for the kind offer, I do think I will try PleoPet after checking out a few more things, I just feel this guy can be revived, I just feel so frustrated since the skits work and I can't get the OS to operate. If I knew that there was a possibility that the USb cable could work, I would be so excited, and Kat's explanation of the possible flash drive being wiped makes goos sense.
I have a lot on my plate right now and don't have the time to do with him what I would like to. I hadn't even fed or turned on my Rb in about four days, till late last night just so I can feed, them, makes you feel like a bad mom when you don't have that kind of time, I have lots of medical stuff going on right now that is keeping me busy and I feel like Argyle, the blind and sweet Pleo who also can't open his mouth, but still can make himself heard. I think Argyle and I are a lot more alike than any of my other Pleos, we both have old joints that are stiffer than cardboard and gettting harder to move each day, and eventually they just wear out and do not work at all anymore. :( %)
If I can't figure this Pleo situation out, I may send this guy or gal to you. What happened to Cato, I mean why is he packed away...? Is he on vacation or is he on home detainment, punishment for running off or something? P0:) I hope he is ok and not broken or anything. Didn't he just have a birthday, I thought I read about ?

Hi, Redwoods! Cato's right hind leg is malfunctioning. He keeps picking it up and putting it down. He's not injured, he's as happy as he wants to be but he can't walk. I haven't ran him since January because I didn't want to damage him further and packed him in his pleo carton. I'm waiting for Kat to finish with Sparky and then I'm going to PM her to ask her if she'd be willing to look at him. Perhaps I jumped the gun but I've already started saving up. It will still be a while, though.
Ryu had a birthday on March nineteenth. She turned one year old. As I said before you know where I am. Keep us posted on how things go but don't forget to take time away to let yourself de-stress. I've always found that when you step back from a problem for a while and then come back to it, you tend to think clearer about what to do.

Hi guys, just a quick note. I have so many SD cards lying around and when moving some Pleos on the Pleo Shelf, I inserted a SD card into Nova, who is running 2.0 if I am remembering correctly. I put the SD card in, thinking it was one of the skits and when I turned her on, after a few short seconds, there was a BARK like a dog, silence then after awhile some chimes, and I left her alone and more chimes, at one time about four at least. After about five minutes of silence, I pulled the sd card out and turned her back on. She went into the hatching position and I turned her off.
So the question is, what operating system did I "revert" poor Nova back to? :oAt least I know the SD card works, as far as me being able to download it correctly. ;) Now I can try it again in the "bricked" pleo who only runs skits, but first I need to know what have I done to Nova?! P:'( If this card does not work on this other Pleo, then I can try the USB cable if I can get it to work, otherwise I am done with no more hope...but Talon has offered to try updating him /her on her computer via USB and I may give that a go, otherwise I am going to get some Prime Premium Pleo Virgin , ( almost virgin. P:D) skin on one of my less fortunate Pleos. Thanks for helping me figure out Nova's operating system, I was not aware there were dog barks, just the chimes. RWM

Lol! Poor Nova! I did the same thing once. Cato was a Catherine for a minute as I accidentaly put Ryu's micro SD card in him instead of his which had Probe RB on it. Anyway the chin song isn't always a good clue as 1.1 and 2.0 have the same song. I guess you could try the play-dead trick. No, wait. That trick is in 1.1 too, I think? Anyway I may be wrong about this but I think you just re-installed 2.0. Only one way to tell- let her hatch and get into her juvinile stage. Sorry for my bad spelling. Once she's there try touching a leg scensor. If she's not responding and acting really wild you'll know she's back on 2.0 and she has to go through the terrible teens. Again. Good luck, Redwoods! I guess I can run NOva and see if she develops the Terrible twos which is part of the built in 2.0 it seems. If it is the 2.0 SD card that I accidently downloaded( though I do not think I did download it, at least not recently.... %) then would the 2.0 NOT work at all on the "Mystery Pleo", because it could be too much of a upgrade and the Mystery Pleo needs to be upgraded to a "lower" operating system first? Just curious since I know it does work obviously... P:D Please give me your thoughts before I try this SD card on him since it is one that works correctly on Pleos. RWM

I'm not sure, Redwoods. My gut says yeah sure do it. I don't think he could be any more half-bricked than he is but then my slightly more logical side says exercise caution. If I were a math problem I would cancel myself out with second guesses. I would wait for someone a little more technical than me to answer this. good luck!

I would try it on him and see what happens. I don't think it can hurt, and at least you know that what your trying does work so if it doesn't work for the bricked guy it isn't because it wasn't downloaded right it's just because his SD card reader isn't able to upload new OS's. I'm not techy enough to know for sure if it should work but this is my gut feeling. :)

Ok, it has been a few weeks and I am going to give this "bricked or not bricked" mystery Pleo another go on operating systems, He works fine on any and all personality and skits, just can't get any darn Operating system installed, very frustrating. I would think there would be SOME way to install a operating system of some sort...strange but I know very very little about the inner workings of Pleos in particular. I will use the downgrade to 1.0, and the system I used on poor Nova by mistake downgraded Nova from 2.0 back to 1.0 so I know the sd card works. :)
I still haven't been able to do the USB cable yet. Does anyone have any other bright ideas on what to do with this guy yet? Is it possible he just came from the factory without a operating system? If his flash reader or what ever it is does not work, how could someone fix that, is it even possible at all? RWM P:'(

Ok,I just got a new SD card and downloaded 1.1 on it. Ran it in Nova, and recorded, heard all the chimes and she went into the hatching stage. So I know it works. Used same SD card on "mystery Pleo". Recorded agan, and to my amazement, Mystery guy chimed after about five -9 seconds, but instead of two chimes and then more at intervals, all the chimes went off in succession at once, After that nothing, And when turned off, card taken out, nothing as usual. What does this mean, I havent heard the chimes before and it was encouraging.
I am now wondering if it is right, that perhaps the reader flash drive or whatever it is is "stuffed" and nothing can get to it? But why the chimes and all at once? What should I do next. It was the first time I heard the chimes but they were all there in a matter of ten seconds instead of the normal 2 minute installation it took on Nova! I am lost but encouraged...........................I think?! P%) RWM

ok, just an update and thought perhaps hopefullly someone here will understand what this means.
With the new Pleo I just got this past week, that is a cross between a Ugobe and somewhere before a Pleo Rb, PleoPet suggested I run StatsRb to see what it says. Well that is another story, but I thought why not run it in this guy too to see what it says; Well, the message I got was this. Property File Invalid format...and some other back up stuff. When I ran it in the new Pleo, it said, Missing file....What does that mean?

When using StatsRB, twice on different pleos I have gotten results I do not understand. On one Pleo it said, "missing file" what does that mean, talking about Dump... On another Pleo it said, " Property File, Invalid Format". I will provide more information later, but what do these terms mean. I do know the StatsRB was downloaded correctly as I used on other Pleos, Erasing in between Pleos, and got good printouts on them.
I can't go any further in testing till I know what these terms mean and what to do. Thanks in advance Please. :) RWM

It means the second Pleo has a corrupted properties file, ie the file itself is broken and needs replacing with a non broken file. The first one means it simply can't find the file it needs and likewise the file/s need replacing with working files. The only way to do that is to perform a downgrade/upgrade of the OS, and the only way to do that if the SD card isn't working is via USB.

Thanks IMR, just one last question. If you get this message, :cat: either invalid file or missing file, etc, does it matter if the Pleo never moves or moves very slowly or not at all during the SD CARD , StatsRB.? What I mean is that does the STATSRB work independant on whether the Pleo or pleo Rb moves or not or just that the battery is in and the on off switch is turned to on.. and left on for a few seconds to get a "read".? Thanks, working on getting that USB cable installation. Almost ready to uninstall Windows to install XP again even if temporaty. Nobody I know has XP anymore. quite a shame... :D Actually I love XP but got a new computer bout a year and a half ago, cause I needed one and more memory.

Stats RB does not require Pleo to be able to move.

Just as a further note, StatsRB can be used on 'Classic' Pleos running OS1.1 and OS2 as well as Pleo RBs, but if I remember correctly, if you try to run StatsRB on a Pleo running the older 1.0/1.0.2 OS you will also get the 'missing file' message as StatsRB cannot acces the files in the same way.

Hi Crewella, thanks you are right. STATS RB can run on older Ugobes as well as Pleo RB. The good news is that one of them, the Pleo I can get skits to run on, but no operating sytem to date and not even the POP file, I just got my older XP comptuer working and will try today to do the USB cable upgrade, downgrade as suggested. I am surprised , happy but also a little nervous as I can finally perhaps find out what is happening with these two pleos.. PleoPet has just given me some "hopefully" good news, at least now I know what I am dealing with , in this Pleo that I have not been able to update, downgrade, etc. He says it appears to be an older Ugobe model running the 1.02 system and I can try to upgrade him to that system, I am going to try that today and I am happy at last knowing what is going on with this guy . It is amazing how many different variations of what looks to be One model that are out there. I am going to try the SD card method and if that fails I do have my old Windows XP to try the USB cable if appropriate. ?Wish me luck. ;D P:) :flowers: Big thanks to PleoPet for helping me with this. Now one more pleo mystery to solve............hopefully.
