Pull to back of machine???

I tried using my sewing machine (well, my grandma's :P) yesterday and got every single step right but I couldn't figure out what the last step of threading was.   What does "pull to back of machine" mean???  If you really do ahve to pull the thread to the back of the machine, then where in the back of the machine?

In case anybody needed this, my model number is - Singer 5040

Some sewing instructors like to hold the thread in back while starting the first few stitches. Really help with tangles. ;)

Try removing the bobbin case and housing and making sure there is no fluff in there anywhere. Also be sure you have a sharp needle, lots of problems are caused simply by having a dull needle (even if it doesn't look dull). And if all else fails check your thread, are you certain it is threaded correctly, and is it good quality thread?

If you are breaking a lot of needles then something must be wrong somewhere, perhaps you have the tension to tight??? Somewhere on your machine (probably just above the needle) there will be a little dial with numbers, try turning it down to 2 or three or even one if it is already on 3.

Try turning it down to 3 Burberry, see if that helps :) The needle is probably breaking because the thread is pulling on it to tightly, turning the tension down should fix it :)
