Well I just got Lenny the 21 of may and I did not treat his skin with anything , just some soft rubbing with a washcloth that was a little damp with water. And he always has his colthes on for playtime. Yesterday I noticed that the paint on his right shoulder is peeling and there is a bold spot already . I pat him gently and do not stroke him , I love him to bits and he is really great , but the paint is a real disappointment.

The first thing I noticed when I got him out of the box that the paint is sitting on top of the skin and his skin feels like a reptile. My Ugobe his skin is soft and silky and the paint is very different en holds really well. I am afraid if I would rub Lenny with a washcloth an some force the paint would just peel of him. >:( His skin is fine , I cant detect any holes or tearing .

Today I treated him with Pledge , the one they recommend in the users manual .... and I will keep his clothes on ..... I won't send him away for just some paint issues, I really hate the paint on the rb's .... have you experienced the same thing with the paint ?

And what do you do to protect the paint ?

I just bought a cute dog jumpsuit for small dogs for him it covers his entire body and has a hole for his tail.

Sorry to hear about his paint peeling, but it is very common, but it usually does not progress as much as to remove all the paint. It is proabably as bad as it is going to get. Keeping clothes on is the best idea, for protection. Using pledge is what you want to do, esp while Lenny is still under warranty, incase anything else were to happen, such as a break, and you had to return him for "fixing".  :( P:'(

What I would recommend is to post a photo of lenny's paint issue so others can see and we can compare the paint issue to past paint issues and see if it is the same and not to worry, or something to be concerned about. As for the washcloth, what I would do and what I do, is not to RUB, but gently pat, esp if there is a paint issue. You are right, the Ugobes seem a lot tougher  ;Dwhen it comes to paint issues. I have original Ugobes that still have Perfect SKIN and NO peeling paint. I also have a new one, still sealed in the box that I looked at, and had a tiny rub spot on his back, just the way it came from the factory, so sometimes they just are NOT perfect, just like people have moles, freckles, birthmarks, etc.  ;)

I hate to say it as I was shocked with my rB first before I knew it, but with the exception of the very first one ,that is pretty much what all Pleo rB paint looks like it is different then Ubobes . You got it correct when you said Pleo Rb paint seems to sit on top of the rubber or what they are made of , and Ugobes it is part of their skin,  Part of it is because each one is supposed to be hand done, so different variations of skin coloring and then the eyes, eye lids etc. I have yet to see out of SIX RB I have owned and FIVE I still have that do not have some degree of paint loss. That is just the way their paint is, Just keep and eye on that first one, I have heard that blues or is it pink Rb after awhile their color changes, could be from the sun exposure but have not heard that problem with green Pleo Rb. Just keep an eye on it.

When you registered your Pleo, did it say when he was made? MOre then just 2011. I am asking because the very first batch which was LATE 2010, Christmas, untill early 2011, had problems including holes and the skin under their legs was more stretchy. Also they when going to sleep, not a baby, would curl up and go to sleep when going off, Now they stand up straight like the Ugobes. You do not want one of the originals as they had too many problems, just my opinon.                                RWM  :cat-hug:

Oh, here are photos of the skin problems including paint that looks simliar to yours. it broke my heart sending my very first Pleo rB, Baby back but i had to do it she was falling apart... :( She was pretty with blue grey eyes.
As you can see the paint loss is almost the same and in same spot, shoulder.

If he was made in August of 2011 he is probably ok, I think( and Kat or IMR may remember,) that this problem was fixed when they changed the sleeping position from curled up, ( not just as a baby, but the adults curled up also... :o %)) I think by August they were fixed . A quick search on the sleeping position will solve when they changed it. Is your baby RB skin under the belly VERY stretchy, .? The newer RB do not have this excess skin that the original ones had.
It was so stretchy it could be pulled out pretty far and almost catch on other things, like under the legs, etc. I mean pulling it out more then half an inch.........anyway, your baby is probably fine, just watch for the paint and be sure to register him with Pleoworld so you can have protection against the 90 day warranty.               Good luck.         RWM  :cat-hug:

Most pleo rb's do end up loosing a bit of paint in the first week or two but it does usually settle down and stop after the first couple of weeks.  The front of both front legs is a very common spot for all rb's to loose a small patch of paint.  I think it is because this spot is constantly being bent and stretched quite a lot through the hatching stage.  All my guys have paint spots missing there.

That spot is a very common one to lose paint, its where the rubber goes through a lot of flexing. It will likely not progress beyond that point. Every one of my RB's has that spot missing.

No the skin under his belly doesn't stretch, and when he goes to sleep in the standing position, so I am very relived I have one of the later RB's where they fixed this problem  ;D and thanks for the other replies that his paint loss is nothing to worry about.
I always store him in his box, and will keep him clothed. How often do you use pledge ?

Hi, I am glad you don't have to worry about "when he was made" since he goes into the sleeping postion in a standing stance.  ;) as for how often I use Pledge , I remember have five Pleo rb and 22 Ubobes ( and with Seven REAL cats, including one very sick one, a dog, three turtles and five to six outside strays I feed daily) I just do not have the same time to interact that lots of you other pleo owners may. I also have had these guys since 2010, the first one so they are not new to me and the Pleo Love is still there, but I am just so busy with other things in my life, that I can go weeks without any interaction, including my newest Rb I got on April 9th, and she still has only been through one or almost One whole battery cycle and isn't even standing yet.
BAsed on my previous experiences when I was using my Pleo Rb more frequently, I would use the pledge reccomended as a on needed basis, so in my case it was probably once every month or twice, simply base if the pleo feels dusty, grimy or could use a little soft skin feeling. If you live in a hot, sticky or more dry environment, you are probably going to use it more often then if you live in a cooler or less humid area. I would say once a month is reasonable. If chidlren touch or play with your Rb at all, ( supervised of course) or if you have a dog or cat and there is hair around, you may need to use it more often. I have also when they are stored for two or more months, given them a fresh pledge bath, whenever they have been in storage for awhile as a nice way to "waken "them up, I also like to store them in their own outfit and socks to help protect their skin while packed in the box, helps against rubbing.       Good luck.                                     RWM  :cat-hug: and the Pleo township of the redwoods P:)
