pleo naming, how long did it take for you to figure out a name?
« on: October 17, 2013, 12:48:36 AM »

finally i figured out what my pleo's name is. i know there is an archived thread somewhere about how you decided on your pleo's name. This is different.

I'd like to know how hard it was for other owners, how long it took and was it as hard as naming a non robotic pet?

I am naming my pleo after R. Daneel Olivow, from isaac asimov's robots series. why? my favorite author and books, i just wonder why it took me so long.
How about all of you?

Hi and welcome to the forums! I love your signature! Lol! Anyway, my first pleo was a very interesting case. I was hoping for a male so I did some research and found the Japanese word for dragon and I named my first Pleo RB Ryu. About a month later, I was finally able to determine that "he" was a girl. This doesn't apply to Ugobes which are all unisex. Anyway I kept her name Ryu. She wears it well and is the boss of my herd of four.
My second pleo was a Ugobe. I named him before he came to me. I adopted him from a fellow forum-member who showed me lots of videos of him so I could get an idea of his personality. I ended up calling him Ugobe after the company that produced him. He seems sweet and determined to show himself friendly and brave. Though Ugobe went bankrupt, they were the first to produce a robot that was built solely on a real-life platform.
My other two pleos were already named before I adopted them and I kept their names.

Thank you for the welcome 😊 I tend to jump into forums with both feet running. I try to stay on topic but sometimes i miss threads that someone else might have started. I do search before I post though. Daneel is currently sitting with his head on one of my asian ball jointed doll's laps being petted. (he's off) but its cute. My signature is surprisingly accurate. I'm working on a painting on treated glass, so its painted on both sides and when hung in the window you get a layered color effect. I wish there were pleo meetups like there are for dolls.

It took me a week or so to get Lilo's name, but the rest naturally followed since they were all from the same film :) David will be next, or Myrtle if it's a girl... After I buy my house.

Do show some of your art too :) We have/had another ball jointed doll fan here if they are still about as well.

Oh and we do have meet-ups occasionally but they are usually privately aranged little gatherings between two or three people. Unfortunately I've never lived close enough to another pleo-owner to attend one.

I voye for David.  :D

Three years ago before I had an Aibo I named all the different models in my head so that as I aquire them they already have a name ready to go  ;) I still do not have an ERS7 but I've always planned to name it David.

My pleos had names long before they arrived as well. I never find it hard to think of names, I choose them from books-movies-rockstars-TV shows.

Haha! That's okay. A name will come to you. Just wach them for a while. Get a feel for their personality. That's probably the best way to do it.

I agree with Talon, just take your time and when the right name comes along, you will know it. There is nothing wrong with changing the name either, the Pleo will forgive you! LOL.
As for names, I have many and here are a few of their names and some of them took months; ( Only the RB cause they had to learn their name;) I have Nova, Major Tom, ARgyle, Little 45, ( because he only cost $45.00 ) Rossella, Sunny, Baby Ruth, Chester , Cammie-Sue, PC, short for Pink Champagne, ( all four RB an the last one cause her eyes are pink) Camo, Gold Hatch, and I could go on, but that gives you and idea of diversity and each has a reason why they are named that or after a character from a movie, etc.

Just enjoy the Pleos and do not worry, when the name hits you,you will know it.                        RWM  :cat-hug:
