No Accessories, No Charger (EDIT : Neck Floppy?)
« on: August 30, 2013, 10:52:59 AM »

So I just acquired a used, but in good condition Ugobe Pleo :). It was only $99 on eBay!

Problem is that he came only with his battery. No leaves, no stick, no accessories period, and no charger.

What would be the cheapest method to acquire a charger for the poor thing, and at least just the most basic accessories for him?

Congrats on getting your Pleo.  :cool:More than likely the battery is not going to work, I could sell you a charger but you also need the adapter cord. Problem is that if you buy the charger, and it does not work, you still do not know if it is the battery that does not work, or if the Pleo does not work. It is more likely the battery, but there is no guarantee, I have purchased 20 Ugobes on Ebay and out of those, Two did not work at all, even with a new egg battery. One is in perfect condition and worked for a few minutes with the egg battery and the other one will only play skits but nothing else. Your other option is to buy the egg battery but you still need the adapter cord. If the egg battery can not make the Pleo work, then you have to try different options for downloading skits and operating systems here on the forum, Some are simple, some are harder, I have had good luck with just needing a new battery about 80% of the time but there is no guarantee like I said , even when the pleo looks new, but I would say the odds are in your favor.

Sometimes on ebay you can buy a adapter and charger for about $20.00 but I would think that is probably a waste cause if you buy a egg charger and battery for your pleo, ( More than likely the green battery needs replacing anyway) then you are looking at another $50.00 $60.00 plus the cost of shipping. ( I sell the egg chargers and batteries here on the forum and guarantee them, if your Pleo still did not work I will take back the battery, other sellers will not take back what they sell on ebay) Otherwise you will have to look at some place like Craigslist to see if someone has a old charger, Most people with pleos do not sell the chargers by themselves, cause the adapter cord is needed to make the egg charger or any other battery work, This is why the pleo cost what it did, You are going to need the adapter cord too no matter what battery you try and use.

Almost everyone here probably remembers Teskus. I got him for 60 dollars, and i ordered the new charger for 2009 pleos from Innvo labs, and it came with the battery. i learned the hard way that the battery cord has to have the right voltage and milliamps (mA), or the battery won't quite charge properly. I got an ac adapter from radioshack, and they said the mA doesn't matter, as long as it is higher or the same. I tried recharging with it set on 12 volts, and the light on the charger kept blinking. I found out it couldn't charge, so i set it down to charge on the 9 volts setting. It charged okay, but it might have ruined the original ugobe battery, since it never charged right. Today i ordered an adapter from innvo labs. Sure, mA could be bigger and be safe on other devices, but pleos need the same as the original cord. My advice, don't order from third party stores.

Alrighty, few questions as to the UGobe store/what I'll need.

If I buy a Charger cradle and battery from the official Innvo store, it doesn't state that it comes with an adapter cord. Does this mean I need to purchase the charger and adapter cord seperately? Or is it an error on their site? (they don't seem to be very good with translations into English).

Also, does the Pleo UGOBE only need the leaf? I know Rbs also need food and medicine.

SO I AM GOING TO BUY:
1 Charger Cradle + Battery
1 2009 Pleo Training Leaf
(1 adapter cord?)
And my Pleo is in the mail.

Will I need anything else to care for my pleo, or will this be enough?

+-Yes, you still need the adapter cord and I don't know what they will charge you for it, You will have to ask, Most of their stuff cost in the range of $20.00, How much are they charging for the charger and how much for the battery? You do not NEED a Pleo leaf, the ones that come with original Pleos they sell on ebay and I have seen them asking $20.00 for them! You can make one yourself out of foam or even cloth, they do not need it, they do not need to eat like a Rb and will chomp as if eating whether they have a leaf or not.

If you decide to buy an egg charger from me and battery, it will only cost you $56.95 plus shipping which since you live in the US is about $5.00-$10.00 depending on where you live, I have extra adapter cords and will sell you one for a lot less then Innvo will charge you. You also may try someplace like RadioShack to see if they have a adapter cord which is compatible, I am sure there are members here who have been successful at getting a cord for their pleo somewhere. Good luck.              RWM :cat-hug:

I have successfully purchased power cords from Dicksmith electronics here in Australia for my Ugobe pleo chargers and my egg battery chargers for about $20 max.  You need to take the charger with you into the store and make sure they give you a cable that not only fits but is also all the right specifications that the charger requires to work correctly.  The chargers have the specs written on them so the electronics store should be able to easily provide you with the right one.

As for what battery to get for your ugobe pleo.  I would recommend going for and egg battery and charger either from RWM here on the forums or from ebay.  The egg batteries are more reliable than the original green batteries that come with pleo (or that you can buy from Innvo)  they also give you 2 hours play time with your pleo compared to the 1 hour you will get from a green battery.

As for other accessories - the ugobe pleo doesn't need any.  The leaf that they usually come with is not a necessity.  As RWM says they will make chomping sounds for any item you stick in their mouths, they don't need to be fed as it makes no difference to their health and well being.  They will even make chomping eating sounds and movements form time to time while they are walking around - giving the impression that they are taking bites of your flooring :P

So all you really need to get is a battery, charger, and power cable.
Hope that helps.

The only reason you would get the leaf is if you want your pleo to be able to recognize it, since the latest os supports some item recognition. Red objects, and the training leaf. A cool feature, but not absolutely necessary. But i am a guy who wants to use all his capabilities. You don't have to copy me, anyways.

You can make a replacement one out of paper, cardboard, felt, material... Anything really so long as the colours are right.

SO! My Pleo has arrived, his accessories have not. As such, I have a stationary pleo with no battery until it shows up in the mail from the Hong Kong post lol.

I bought the battery/leaf/cord from the PleoWorld site.

ANYWAY.

My Pleo seems to be in great condition except for a small scuff on his right eyelid.

But.

Is his neck supposed to be 100% stiff when powered down? It flops a liiitttle bit from left to right when I pick him up and move him. If I turn him upside down or lift his chin, his head can look nearly straight up at the ceiling without resistance, but stops just shy of 90 degrees. Is this a bad sign? Or will I not know till I power him on?

Edit: Thanks all for the replies and sorry for not replying sooner myself, RL caught up with me for a bit there!

Sadly it sounds very much like your pleo may have a broken neck cable.  The neck should be fairly firm in position and certainly should not flop if you turn him upside down.  It should stay reasonably straight no matter what position you hold him in.

Oh no :(.

Guess I'll wait till the battery arrives, and if he is truly having neck problems, I might have to read/youtube up on pleo neck cable replacements (was browsing through the forums on that subject last night @_@). Or just get him a neck brace, as Redwoods Mama has said she has done in the past >_>.

Poor Pleo...

Edit: Upon second inspection this morning, his neck's left-to-right motion is lest exaggerated than I initially thought: he only looks has about a 15 degree cone of movement, left to right. His head is held paralell to the floor, not drooping down whatsoever. But it DOES look straight up if tilted or gently lifted to that position.

As an aside, does anyone know how to actually track an order from PleoWorld? It's shipping through Hong Kong Post airmail, and although there appears to be a tracking link on my profile (Order No., listed as a link underneath my shipping method) it leads to a broken hong kong website displaying errors. On the PleoWorld order page itself, it says that my order is "Already delivered from warehouse", although since that was only 4 days after ordering at all, I'm assuming that's broken english trying to say that it just left the pleo warehouse and is on its way now...

I answered your PM about the neck, but one last question, did the seller say anything about the neck , possibly being broken or was it advertised, AS IS, meaning no returns.? If I got a pleo with a broken neck, I would send it back unless it was clearly stated, selling AS IS, which means unless you ask specific questions about conditions such as the neck, you get what you see. I also allways recored opening Pleo boxes so it is not my word against the seller, but documented and protects myself both as a buyer and when I sell.              good luck.                RWM :cat-hug:

Replied in more detail via PM, but then realized the youtube link would be beneficial for everyone to see/analyze.

Just sent you a PM, only thing that will still help is up downside view of neck flopping, that is a giveaway if broken top or bottom cable, short 10-15 seconds is all that is needed. Thanks.        RWM :cat-hug:

the top cable looks broken to me from watching your video.  When you gently try to lift pleos head on a non broken necked pleo you should get about 1cm of movement upwards and then meet resistance.  Looks to me like there is no resistance for you?

A few of us have fixed broken neck cables and there are some great instruction posts and videos you can access through the forum.  the hardest part is opening up the skin to get at the insides of pleo but once you have done that the rest is just a mater of careful methodical working to remove the broken cable and replace it and then put pleo back together again.

As you suggest I would wait until you get the battery that way you can turn pleo on to at least straighten out his neck - which you will need to do before attempting surgery if that is what you decide to do.

Also a good point RWM made about contacting the seller of the pleo.
