Future Pleo owner saying Hi
« on: July 10, 2013, 12:53:57 PM »

Hi everyone, been churning through some of the topics on here the past few days and thought i might as well start my own one. I remember seeing an article about pleos when they were first out 3 or 4 years ago and thinking if only i had the money. Of course at the time i was doing a degree in uni so the one time where you don't have money. Anyway in my second year the roboreptile came out, seeing the promo video, i thought it might come somewhere close to what pleo was so when i saw one later that year i went and got it, however i was actually pretty disappointed in it, the way that it shuffled along so sadly it didn't see much use. Anyway now that i have done with uni and have been earning for 2 years i am thinking sometime in the future i will be able to have one for my own especially as i will be renting so no real pets allowed by then perhaps they will be a new pleo around also. A few things i would want to see is reinforcing the neck vertebrae with metal and also perhaps a few more toys Anyway we shall have to see what comes next from Invo

Welcome to the forums, As IMR stated, it is sad but seems true that Innvo since losing their US site contact, is not as focused on customer satisfaction or better to put, not as "visible" to the US market, They do seem Asian marketed but the participation is way down from what I can see. When Derek Dobson was involved, there seemed to be a much friendlier Innvo to contact and more publicity. It is just not the same and I hate to say it, not sure if it is just a co-incidence, but I have heard of an awful lot of "pleo Rb problems", and I am guessing it is factory problems, not the same quality control that there was before, or it just seems that way.

I still love Pleo Rb, but if they were to be just coming out now, they would not have the same interest or enthusiastic appeal that they did when they had a US base. I am sure I would be able to wait to get one second hand at this point. Derek Dobson put so much effort and made special contributions to the Pleo forums here and we gave great feedback on different developments of Pleo rb when they first came out. I can't see that happening anymore and there is some communication problem with the Asian Innvo service relationship. They do get back to you but do not allways answer directly, it is more of a "send Pleo Rb " when they have a problem and if it can be fixed, we will tell you what it will cost. ( This is of course when they are no longer under the 90 day warranty)

Anyway, welcome to the forums, this is a great place to meet other pleo enthusiasts and find out probably more than you want to know.  :D even before you get a Pleo. I did like your comment about the reinforced neck, would be great but not sure how flexible something like that would be, I have no idea if it could work, but I like the idea of it being a lot stronger, Who knows, Innvo may surprise all of us. ;D

I think if they were to make the neck vertebrae out of metal instead of plastic they would be more durable and much stronger.  The plastic ones do seem to break fairly easily just under normal pleo use conditions unfortunately.  I don't know how common this issue is with the rb's but so far I have seen it in two rb's and one Ugobe.  Currently fixing it in my Rb.  So metal vertebrae I think is a great idea.  :)

Thankyou for welcoming me to these forums, yes i have noticed it seems to me to be a case of if something goes wrong having to send the whole thing back to the factory, rather old fashioned in this age. And the warranty is only 90 days? i thought it was a year hmm i wonder how much money Innvo makes of things going wrong after the warranty is gone out, after all surely all the pleos that do get returned just get fixed, reset to hatchling and then are sent out again.

hmm after looking at the photo of pickle's broken vertebrae, it looks like a problem may be the large bunch of cables that look to have been pushed between the plastic tabs on the outside of the vertebrae, this could possibly put strain around the central point. Even a small crack that starts can then widen in use until the vertebrae breaks into pieces. So if its possible to put a small loop of metal around the outer vertebrae this should then hold the vertebrae together preventing strain around the center, perhaps then over the metal a thin piece of sponge or foam to prevent the metal rubbing on the inside of the skin
