Hi. I'm new and ,as my subject header states, in need of advice. I got a Pleo last week, and after reading the book, charging the battery up I still have questions. Hopefully you guys can help, as I really don't want to break Mischief before she's able to earn her name.

1) Regarding the SD cards no where is it written what size to use. Is there a maximum or minimum to avoid? Are there brands that work better in Pleo's than other brands ? I have a San Disc 2 gig card, can I use that in Mischief?

2) How do yo know which downloads you need to put on the SD card? Is there some way to tell what is already installed on your Pleo?

3) I've read a lot stating shirts aren't needed, and that they are to prevent paint rubbing off. So I looked on the forum and found several listing for places that sell Pleo clothes and I'm going to get Mischief a shirt or two. But all the shirts I've found claim to be stretchy and have no closures to worry about so how do you put them on your Pleo without ripping the shirt or breaking Pleo?

Sorry, if my questions have been asked and answered already I spend the last few days reading and rereading the forums to try and get the basics before I posted my questions to not sound stupid.

Well, first off, welcome!

1 -  Size is not an issue, more or less.  You want to stay under 2GB as pleo does not support the SD HC format (seen on 4GB and up cards).  But small is fine.  Most programs for pleo are less than 10MB, so just about any old SD card will work.  I use 512MB and 1GB cards because they were common and cheap.  But it seems odd to use a 1GB card when you only need 1/10 of 1% of the capacity . . .

2 - Some tricks to check the OS level is to run under the chin for 10-15 seconds.  If your pleo starts to sing, you have LifeOS1.1.  You can also try the watchdog mode.  If your pleo is active and looks around, you're running 1.1.  If your pleo just sits there, you're running 1.0.2.  If your pleo won't go into watchdog mode, you're running 1.0.

3 - Depends on the clothes.

Haven't turned Mischief on yet. Do I need to have a SD card in her for first wake up? I appreciate the tips and tricks but how will I identify watchdog mode? Should I just turn her on, and rub her chin until she wakes up and/ or sings for me if will?

The SD cards are useful when updating the Operating System or having Pleo run skits.  The petting under the chin is just one way to check to see which version of the OS your Pleo has.

Welcome! Pleo probably won't sing on his first charge, you may have to wait til he is older Hehe my kitten is called Mischief

If the clothing is going over Mischiefs head it has to be stretchy. I find it's easier to put them on while the legs are extended out in front. Otherwise it can be a bit tricky! Lots of clothing for small dogs work. I love the ones with lots of Velcro. If you go to the store to buy clothing be sure to take Mischief with you. It really helps in the beginning.

I just got Mischief's shirt in the mail. Hooray, I get to turn her on today. Only when I look at the openings in the shirt I am left wondering how one dresses a baby dinosaur at all. This is the shirt I bought.  Any and all helpful suggestions are welcome.

Also found a darling soft collar at a local pet store that's soft velcro bonded to padded rubber-like material, of course it's decorated with dinosaurs. What else would a Pleo wear?

I can't see the pic, but to dress your Pleo Mischief will need to be lying down, so that you don't interrupt the birthing sequence it may be best to leave the shirt off until afterwards.

... up to her name that is. After waking up and exploring her environment, which includes trying to climb in a grocery bag and onto my hat. She discovered she had the ability to eat time. My time that is, I interacted with her when I should have been making dinner. Oh well, at least the important people got to eat, Mischief, that is.
